Very well done Carl. That certainly is a beautiful maple burl. And you certainly did it proud. An excellent result. Beautiful finish. Shiny, but not too much. The piece looks like it would feel soft to touch. (Except for the rim of course.) Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Gorgeous bowl! Fun to watch! I’m a huge fan of all the doctors woodshop products. If I can buff the piece I use pens plus, on round smooth pieces, if I can’t buff properly as on a square, live edge etc I use the walnut oil finish. Love them! Pens plus is ridiculously easy and beautiful to apply. Quickest finish in my opinion with the best results. I noticed that you reduced the diameter of that piece quite a bit to get rid of that live edge that dipped down at the rim. I would have tried to include that in the piece and kept more of the diameter but other than that, kudos on this one. Take care Scott
What I have are slices of Red Oak, 2” thick, and 14” inches in diameter. Using what I already had, I coated 3of them with Sanding Sealer, 3 of them with poly seal, and I of them with polyurethane. Waiting to see what results I get. Thanks for your advice, I will have to get some.
BEAUTIFUL burl love it. weldone carl.

Carl, the live next weekend can you post in UA-cam or your website, (not on Facebook or instagram).
Too bad you don’t have a coring tool. But that is beautiful Carl. Love it.
Thank you alan, I wish I had one too 🙂
What do you recommend using to seal green wood with before turning them or making something else.
I would use Anchor Seal, or at least paint the ends with house paint.
Hi Carl how many coats of walnut oil do you apply and do you apply any other finish on top of the oil?
You only need one coat of the oil. I like the satin finish, but you can use a friction finish like Penn Plus over the top of the oil.
Zdravím co to máte za sklíčidlo ? Takový systém upínání čelistí vidím poprvé.!!!!
Hey Carl hope you're doing well . Beautiful bowl take care .
Thank you buddy!
