I’ve been turning bowls about 4 years. I watch to learn style, techniques and artistic interpretation. I struggle with how to shape bowls so I watch a lot of you tube to get ideas.
Peggy, little do you know that what you do is just like life. It is the imperfections of life that make people beautiful. Just like you make a broken slab of Maple beautiful.
Hi, I'm watching just for fun! I watch a number of turners, and yours just popped into my feed. I really enjoyed your voice over style and will be back for more!!
Want to thank you for this very interesting and informative video. I rather enjoy tackling wood with cracks or other flaws, and the challenge to me is number 1 safety and secondary produce a one of a kind creation. It’s Tornado season here in Oklahoma, so there is no need to purchase wood. Thanks again.
Dennis, in Oregon: I've already started turning bowls with various woods. It seems impossible to find a perfect piece of wood. I watched this video to learn more about how to deal with cracks. Thank you very much.
I like to watch different videos for the ideas and the therapy (it's cheaper and safer than buying all those bullets😄). I'm always glad to see your videos! Nice hair!
I have been turning for several years, but I think that there is always more to learn so I watch turning videos such as yours. You are always fun to watch.
I like watching you turn. You got me started with ack's, now if I want to do a shiny bowl or charcuterie it's all I use. Cutting boards still get oil. Keep on turning.
Enjoy turning myself, several dozen turned so still in learning mode. Your vid’s are understandable and go into good detail. So from a novice, keep it up!
I enjoy most videos I watch, and learn something from them also. I am just in the process of setting up a new lathe. I would like to get into boxes etc, . I have quite a few health issues but do nejoy doing things with my hands and brain.Have wood carved for years, animals, birds and a few fish also have done a large number of masks of natives and other people.
Since you asked, I'm a newbie to this - started turning in January and I like watching videos like this to learn and to get ideas of things to try. I have started experimenting with resin and of course the first few tries taught me a couple of lessons but I'm getting better at it. Thanks for sharing your skills! I hope you can ignore the people who get their jollies by criticizing others. I see that on other forums a lot and I think it's just the human condition. Some people are just like that. Looking forward to your next videos.
Great video and beautiful bowl! I started to watch wood turning as it was somehow so soothing on my overthinking brain. Eventually with time and opportunity I bought a school bus and have converted it into a lil wood workshop. I am still very much a newbie and watch to learn and for inspiration. I will say, something about your style (what you cut, when, where, how) is particularly pleasing on the brain! Perhaps the sped up footage helps. Makes the wood look to just fall away effortlessly! If only real-time was that easy hey? haha Now that I've done some turning myself I have new appreciation to just how much thought, skill, tools, experience etc.. goes into turning!
So beautiful in all its simplicity. 😺 I love watching all kinds of turning videos just for fun and to relax my mind. I would actually want to start wood turning now that I recently retired. But I live in an apartment and have absolutely no facilities or knowledge of how to start. I will continue watching it on UA-cam instead. And I am so happy to finally have found a female wood turner! Wow! I thought I was the only female interested in this 😸
Thanks for doing these videos, it's a lot of work. I'm dealing with a lot of cracked pieces, nice wood but cracks... but mine are smaller so I'm not inclined to try the epoxy since there are numerous and small. Just trying the CA glue and saw dust. Had not tried any of this previously but I guess it's a possible solution. Very nice work, and you certainly are not a novice. Don't even listen to the internet idiots.
Added comment… I LOVE watching what tools and finish techniques others use. Your video did it. I am buying the Robust curved tool rest. I turn sitting in a wheelchair and use the Laguna 1216. I am not very strong so the 1216 with the end off board is perfect for me. I will give the AXE finishes a try. Your choice of color epoxy…. SPOT ON! Thank You.
I watch the videos for the pleasure of seeing something beautiful and useful come out of a block of wood. I’ve always been interested in wood turning but never had the equipment or time. Now that I’m retired I don’t have the ability to stand for any length of time. So watch you make these pretty bowls and such is satisfying in its own right. Just like this project, I’m never disappointed.
My garage is my happy place❤.did large epoxy river dining table next a matching credenza. But that turning looks interesting. Might try making flower pot with left over maple and walnut
I enjoy watching other turners and pick up hints and tricks when I can. The last part of the video had me confused because I've never seen a Laguna Revo set up with the controls on the right side. When you showed the Acks and it was reversed, that explains the turned around lathe. Good job on the bowel.
Dear Peggy, I totally share your opinion about cracks; actually, I spend the must of the time repairing them because I turn 99% of the time end-grain piece of wood, and they have a lot of cracks. Some time cracks they can play a role on the finished piece, like an extra detail of interest: ....Well, this is only my opinion of course! Thank you Peggy: Sorry for the familiarity, ...I don't know why but I consider you like a friend; I born Italian and you are so spontaneous that remind me Italy. Take care.
Hi there...thank you for the video... I am in the process of turning a bowl from a "messy" burl. I can see there are cracks in it and was looking for ways to use epoxy mid-way through a project. Your video showed me! Thanks again!!
Heya Peggy! I watch a number of youtubers, mostly woodturners. I watch for therapeutic purposes, I find them very calming. I keep coming back to your channel because you are fun & adorable. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful bowl. My wife and I like to watch your turning videos at lunch. It is relaxing, interesting and we learn some things. Neither of us is a wood turner. We are retired, but she does a lot of music for the church and I do some woodworking, maintenance, fishing, hiking and volunteering at the local YMCA.Your videos are great and you should ignore those who think otherwise. We live pretty far away from you. Haha. We are in Central Texas. Keep the videos coming. We are staying inside during this heat wave and need to be entertained so we do not get into trrouble. Haha. Thanks for the fun.
Nice hat! I mean nice bowl. It turned out really well. I am a hobby turner and have been watching you from early on in your you tube journey. At first I found it therapeutic, then enjoyable and then I learned some things as well. Cheers.
Hey Peggy I enjoy your videos because you always offer some good turning points. I am fairly new to turning and am hungry for my own improvement. Thanks for what you do.
I watch wood turning a lot and you're the first female woodturner that I've seen. This is a very good project that you did. I can't believe more females have not done this
I watch this video for both reasons. I believe there is always something that you saw after watching a video and that is "OH I didn't know that" or "Wish I had thought of that". Your never to old to learn something new. I noticed that all the printing that you showed as a mirror image. Great video!
Ignore the Internet trolls. Just by this video you can tell your skill level. Great bowl by the way! I watch to learn and enjoy seeing peoples skills in action!
I watch wood turning videos because it’s hypnotic (so I guess that’s therapeutic? 😂) Maybe one day I will muster the resolve to unpack that lathe sitting in my garage.
@@PFWoodturning Hope you don’t mind a follow-up question: after going from watching to turning, how long did it take you to get to this high level of skill? Seems like that would take a decade or more 😬
As for all the critics, no way to make everybody happy all the time. Your doin a great job and being very safe while doin it!! And anybody who doesn't like it,thats their problem!! ✌️!!!
I watch to see the cool creations n how you color n finish the wood. I do a little woodworking when I can n it's a great help to see different finishing techniques. Thanks for sharing your creations with us.
Interesting turn, keep it up. Pay no heed to those who criticise, let the wood guid you. My turning days are now over due to health issues but I still like to watch interesting turners. Nice hair by the way.
When I started turning a couple of years ago, I watched all turning videos I could find, but now I subscribe to so many, I don't have time to watch everything. So I watch only those such as yours in which the turners talk to me and explain what they're doing and why. Technical note: When you use your phone in selfie mode, it's a mirror image and all text is backwards.
Nice job! Like you, I watch wood turning videos therapeutically. I will never be able to afford the equipment nor the space to try my hand at wood turning so I live vicariously through those that can. I am so envious of those that have the equipment and space to pursue woodworking. Thanks and I've just subscribed. Looking forward to viewing more of your videos! 👍
It turned out beautifully! So glad you weren’t hurt when it broke. We’ve all done that from time to time. It’s really easy for people to be negative, but all’s well that ends well.
Watching to learn, new hobby for me. I have lots of Live Oak in my yard and Ashe Juniper and I am dealing with cracks. I'm filling with epoxy and activated charcoal I harvest from old water filters with a piece of sand paper. (I'm cheap.) I started with 5 min. epoxy but that sets so fast I'm just now trying medium cure Total Boat now. You Tube turners are my main teachers!
I like you because you are very practical and don't make things complicated or sophisticated to do. Your approach is simple and basic, ...and there is all time something to learn from your technique. I am sure that you are a great human been too.
