In the Morning Psalm 59

I put this Psalm to music one night when I was staying on the Welsh coast. A friend was critically ill in hospital, with the distinct possibility that he would not make it to morning. Due to the nature of his work, his death would have had a massive impact not only on his family, but on many vulnerable people who depend on him.
That evening the words of this Psalm jumped off the page to me, as a promise, a declaration of confidence and faith in God in the face of very real danger. The melody came easily, and as I then stood in the sea and sang it, I could sense God's grace and power to fulfil the words.
He does not always call a person back from the brink of death, but in this case He chose to. And in the morning my friend went on to sing aloud of God's steadfast love.
