- Elliot & Elliot sit down & confront each other on who is the real Elliot Alderson. Trippy.
From Mr Robot Season 4 Episode 12 "Whoami" Elliot wakes up in an abandoned lot following the explosion at the Washington Township plant, which is no longer there. He discovers the town is a thriving suburbia, where his mother and father, both alive, live. He finds out that his parents never abused him as a child and that Darlene does not exist. He returns to the city, where he encounters Angela's parents, Emily and Phillip (the latter still being in Angela's life), and they reveal to him that Elliot is marrying Angela the following day. He goes to the alternate Elliot's apartment and hacks his computer, discovering a hidden drive of sketches of himself, Darlene, and the rest of fsociety. The alternate Elliot returns home to find the original Elliot at his iMac (as depicted at the end of the previous episode). Initially alarmed, the alternate Elliot explains that the sketches are of a persona he created that would lead an exciting life as a vigilante hacker, the very life the original Elliot lives. They touch, causing another earthquake, which severely injures the alternate Elliot. Alternate Elliot gets a call from Angela; hearing her for the first time since her death, the original Elliot decides that he can have the life he always wanted and kills the alternate Elliot.

The real Elliot being able to hear our Elliot talk to us is easily the creepiest scene in the show. "It sounded like you were talking to someone" spooked tf outta me when I first saw it

Yeah, it would be insano-crazy to encounter a different parallel dimension/universe version of yourself and realize they can't quite hear your inner thoughts, but the fact you're the same person they literally know exactly what you're thinking, and you them, that they might as well be able to hear your thoughts, because they're also their thoughts.
Yeah, it's like when Claire heard Frank's monologue in House of Cards.
As creepy as it was. Fake Krista literally turning and looking "us" dead in the eye with a "I know about them too" takes the cake.

still a masterpiece of the second decade of the XXI
Besides the real context of the scene, this is definetely one of the most RELATABLE scenes of Mr. Robot. This is like me meeting the parallel universe version of me who lives the type of life I’ve always wanted. He is not lonely, angry, has no anxiety, traumas ect… Everytime I hear the line at 02:43 It’s like they are reading a phrase of my life in this show. Sure thankfully many of us don’t have 1% of pain Elliot dealt with. But I hope there will be a glimpse of positives in 2024 for everyone having similar thoughts and feelings…
And we all thought this is Elliot talking with its counterpart. And that's true, just we were wrong about who's the real Elliot here.
can anyone explain in simple terms who MM and his other personalities are? I have trouble understanding what actually happened by whom.
Is the “successful” Elliot here the “actual” Elliot? Would he slip into MM (and who we watch for the majority of the show) for the hacks and such?

Mastermind, Mr. Robot & the Alderson family are personas created by (or "for" to be exact due to his dissociative personality disorder) true Elliot (the "successful" one in the world in the last episode). Mastermind's role was to encapsulate the true Elliot so he could live the life he deserves in created reality while Mastermind tried to make the true world better place for him. Mr. Robot was like a father Elliot never had, he was made to forget about all the wrong and awful things true father did to Elliot.
@@spythere how does Mastermind keep true Elliot safe (in the created reality)? Is that just an sort of delusional state true Elliot is in?
That’s the thing I haven’t been able to understand the past couple times I’ve rewatched the show. When Elliot “wakes up” in the very final scene, is that true Elliot coming back to the *real world* that has been *made better* by MM?
@@TheOMGbeandip Yes, in the end it's the true Elliot who's waking up from the fake ideal reality made by other personalities. He was there living a boring but peaceful life as a AllSafe CEO. They need to do this because their existence was to make the real world a better place for him. Mastermind did it but got lost himself and thought he's the real Elliot after all. From the first "Hello friend" in S01 to the last scene in S04 it's not the real Elliot who we see - it's the Mastermind.
@@spythere Thank you. That makes a lot of sense. So true Elliot was, in fact (in the real world), a tech for AllSafe and had these relationships with Shayla, Angela, Darlene, Cisco, Gideon (and so on) but under the control of MM. Do I have that right?
So the end of the story is essentially MM coming to terms that true Elliot is *real* and that MM is only a piece of his personality. MM, along with Mr. Robot et al, are just alters of his DID. Is that also correct?
I can relate to this like an inner dialogue. We all have things going on that don’t conform to our outer shells. Things we would never advertise. If the two mix too much things start to fall apart.
What's messed up, the fake elliot could have equally been the real one. I mean he was created to harbor his rage and anger. The real one seems more like a personality he would want to be.

The way that hacker Elliot didnt know at that point that in real world he was created by real Elliot too... but in real world it was nothing like "boring reason" 👏🏻

God... This show hacks my life in surreal ways. I thought the show itself was crazy and how it reflected the life of us who are different. But the timing of these UA-cam clips are their own form of hacking society.
I know this because Tyler knows this. Unreal honestly and talent in this show, one of the very best. Love u all that made and appreciate this experience of a show. Dragon Tattoo and Fight Club inspired !

This really hits me.. I actually Fantasize about having my own alternate reality what its like to be normal, was able to talk to my alternate self and became self-aware that you dont belong to that reality and this is exactly it.

Theoretically speaking if you met yourself in a parallel universe and came into physical contact it would create a paradox that could unravel and destroy that galaxy worst case scenario the entire universe. It would be something like matter and antimatter colliding. that's the theory anyway.
how... seriously? i dont see how this would work scientifically. just as much as i dont see that looking at your future self could break reality because it should only create a new future.
This would only apply to time travel. No paradoxes would be created from changing something in present time stream, unless that change was created from something from the future. Even if you are suggesting that the same atoms can't touch each other, the atoms in his hand are different than the atoms in his elbow. They just can't touch each other in the exact same spot relative to each other. Even then, it's a different universe. They most likely have eaten different foods and gone to other places. Their bodies are made out of different atoms. Which means that they are probably safe.
Best Serie for me. Was the Sopranos but sorry Gandolfini, Elliot and all people work in this series deserve it. Unforgettable!
Really solid acting from Rami in this dual role. Embodies a very different persona down to the smaller mannerisms.

I’m so glad they always diverted from becoming cheesy! Came close a few times but it was perfect when it was all over.
The whole parallel universe thing was way too nonsense for this show. The “mind reading” thing makes sense now.
Also glad for Dom’s & Darlene’s ‘ending’. Both ‘came out of their comfort shells’.
We don't know what the Whiteroses' machine was after all though. Mr Robot calls it fake but how would he know? He opposed when Elliot tried to prevent the meltdown so he clearly didn't have any intel on her project. It's silly and delusional but we can't be sure what was this "time machine".

It was definitely open-ended so up to interpretation. I just prefer to see it as a delusion but both arguments can be made.
Tyrell’s “blue screen of death”? Sounded like a dinosaur screeching but who knows.
Personally, I prefer this show to be grounded in reality but I see why the show left an open-ending.
@@ghostlyblaze7793 I also really liked in Mr. Robot that it's very well grounded when it comes to realism but delivers the story alongside with other aspects like colors, music and even unique camera movement. And those silly mysteries are making the viewer question the same reality because we're the imaginary friend of mastermind and we see everything just like he wants us to (just like in the 2nd season). It's beautiful.
@@drewmason2593 Yeah. Just like Mr. Robot said earlier - it's a zero-sum game. You either do it or don't. :) There was a scene with Whiterose standing next to some calculations on the whiteboard. I guess there was something to the machine and it's power to alter realities but it could be just a delusional dream of a genius.

The real Elliot doesn’t know he has DID so the alter/Mastermind put him in a loop so he could take over. All of the alters are trying to get the Real Elliot back so they threw Mastermind into the loop with him. The “earthquakes” are memories and that means his perfect world is crumbling.
He's inside his own head, talking to the "real" Elliot who our Elliot hid away inside his own brain.
