Instead of positioning his views as somehow inferior or "off-track," perhaps a more empowering label would be "fundamentalist Islam." This highlights the focus on core Islamic values like social justice, tolerance, intellectual curiosity, and contributing to human well-being - values exemplified by the Prophet himself. No Malaysian wants to be labeled "liberal," especially when it carries such negative baggage. Framing these ideas as a return to "fundamentalist Islam" - the Islam that propelled the early ummah to greatness - could resonate more effectively. After all, the Prophet brought Islam to elevate humanity, not to confine it to endless rules and judgment.
