I had a Peugeot BA10/5 in my 1988 Comanche. It shifted beautifully except when cold, where it would simply refuse second until it gained some heat. My 1990 Comanche as an AX-15 it works flawlessless but definitely doesn't shift quite as smoothly as that Peugeot trans did.
I also have a BA10/5 in my early 89 4.0 Comanche. I have about 175.5K miles all original, and can confirm this transmission does not like the cold one single bit. Anything under about 50F ambient, and its real rough to throw gears easily until it warms up.
Peugeot standard trans is jeeps is NOT a joke, just too many internet rumors; actually easy to rebuild or fix and parts available; I replace a bearing in mine, not difficult and did not have to mess with shifter. Sell it online or to 4x4 shop, someone wants it, worth money, really!! :)
Your lucky it has the external slave cylinder, I have the internal slave cylinder on my 87 yj I will have to change the bell housing for the external slave cylinder and a few other things, some bad designs on the 87 yj .
After about a thousand views of YJ engine and trans swaps on YT, I've decided to go with a engine rebuild on my 1988 YJ, and upgrade to a Clifford manifold and do the Chevy 4.3 Fuel Injection Kit. I'm also gonna replace the trans with an AX15. I've replaced and upgraded literally everything on my jeep to this point. Figure I'll have a new [old] one before long.
@@pattkinder612 that’s what I thought but figured if anyone would know you would 👍 I sure would like the 4th gear Thanks for your quick response You guys are the best
Well. Had a Beaufort that was French made. Not one marine screw in it. You can engineer the he'll out of something. Give it to the French and all you get is crap.
I have an 87 that's has been converted to the AX-15. Does the factory 87 starter mesh with the flywheel or did you use the factory flywheel?
Did this to my 87 back in 98 one of the best things I swapped
Along with a 93 t case w/ sye
44 rear end

they aren't worth shit.
They are so bad, that they were the first thing chyrsler changed after they aquired jeep AND IT WAS A MID YEAR CHANGE
When I blew reverse out for the second time, I junked it for an early GM NV4500.
Fun I just managed to blow reverse out on my TJs NV 3550, just putting a used tranny in for now (budget constraints) but I see an AX-15 in my future
He really said that over some donuts🍩🍩 😆 💀
Do you guys know the name of that color green on the Jeep?

If you love it, might as well keep making it better and better!
So what about an automatic swap
The 3 spd 999 to a 4 spd. Auto?
Not enough room for a rear driveshaft with a 4 speed auto in a YJ.
