    Shang Tsung didn’t look like that in the original games, but after Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa’s masterful performance, they slowly pushed the character toward his likeness.
    And Christophe Lambert going full ham in this movie was so funny. His “sorry” after punching the guy’s shoulder was chef’s kiss

      @@marcusfridh8489 Well, to be fair to _The Mummy Returns,_ there was some sort of scheduling conflict because Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson still had a WWE career, and his schedule didn't give the VFX team time to do a proper scan. With only a limited amount of reference material, they did the best they could with what they had. So it wasn't the ambition that failed, either.

    Fun Fact 4: Even though Kano's game backstory was that he was an american raised by a woman in Tokyo. Actor Trevor Goddard's portrayal as an Australian Kano left a lasting impact to every voiceover or portrayal is Australian.

    • @Guhndoi
      @Guhndoi 5 місяців тому +25

      Fun Fact 4a: Trevor Goddard, an English actor hailing from Croydon near London, cleverly carved a niche for himself by portraying Australian characters in his career. This unique choice stemmed from the fact that Hollywood producers often struggled to differentiate between British and Australian accents. As a result, when he portrayed Australian characters, Goddard only made minor adjustments to his natural accent or simply exaggerated it.
      The accent he used for his role in Mortal Kombat was more of an exaggerated Cockney London accent rather than an authentic Australian one. Nevertheless, due to the common misconception and Goddard's history of playing Australian characters, the perception emerged that his character, Kano, was Australian.

      That's incorrect regarding being raised by a woman in Tokyo, that was never confirmed and not a fact at all. He was originally going to be a Japanese American orphan who lead the Black Dragon but there was no info regarding who'd raise him or trained him. While He wasn't originally Australian but he was just always a Mercenary, Thug and Extortionist Thief. Kano lives a life of crime and injustice. He is a devoted member of the Black Dragon. That part they kept. They didn't make him Australian background wise til this movie hit which Trevor's version went over so well the devs who make MK liked it so much they just made that apart of his canon.

    Fun Fact 2: Hollywood has been known to test screen select films to a select audience before releasing the film to see what would work and what doesn't. So for MK 1995, the scene where we are introduced to Scorpion and Sub-Zero, the original reason behind them working together was that they were friends. But the test audience didn't like this and voiced that Scorpion and Subzero were enemies. So the Director added the bit where Shang Tsung says "Deadliest of enemies but slaves under my power."

    • @MKF30

      Another fun fact originally Cameron Diaz was supposed to be Sonya but due to an injury, had to be replaced so they went with Bridgette Wilson instead.

    • @IAmNeomic
      @IAmNeomic 4 місяці тому +1

      Another fact from those screen tests: The original cut didn't have the Johnny Cage/Scorpion fight. The test audiences said there wasn't enough action. So during the re-shoots, they added that to the movie, and during the second round of test screenings, it was the highlight.

    • @MKF30
      @MKF30 4 місяці тому

      Yeah the audiences wanted more fights, thankfully they listened. The Sub vs Liu Kang fight could have been a little longer but I digress. More fun facts speaking of which, the new MK 1 game Season 3 of invasions currently going on now will end in 8 days, the last stage and boss is evil Sub-Zero from another timeline, they gave him a move that is a direct nod to this movie with a giant ice bubble that freezes you if you touch it.

Robin Shou (Liu Kang) helped with teaching everyone how to fight and the fight choreography and Christopher Lambert (Raiden) paid out of his own pocket for all his travel expenses and the wrap party after they finished the movie because they ran out of money from the budget. The first guy Lu Kang fights in the tournament was supposed to be dressed like the other guards, but he had such a unique look that the director made sure you could see him.

    Here's a *fact* you're NOT ready for:
    One of the most memorable and popular musical score tracks from this movie's soundtrack (reaching #2 on Billboard's "Top 100 Hot Dance Club Songs", and staying at that position for full two years, from 1994 to 1996), was created and performed by an actual female-porn-actress-who-became-a-professional-DJ. Yes. Really. I am NOT joking or lying, or exaggerating, even one slightest bit. The woman's name is Traci Lords (pseudonym from her porn industry days, her actual name being Nora Louise Kuzma, she's of Soviet Ukrainian descent, from immigrant parents, she was born in Ohio), the track in question is "Control" from the album "1000 Fires" (released in December of 1994), which was also her debut studio work (she wrote the songs, performed the lyrics/vocals, and edited the scores/timing, all by herself, while Ben Watkins and Wonder Schneider helped with equipment/instruments/additional cues). The instrumental version of this track, which was used for this movie's official soundtrack, was mixed and performed by "Juno Reactor" under Lords' strict supervision (under her "control", if you will, no pun intended) and sold double-platinum (certified by RIAA), earning Lords her first major musical industry award. "Control" track itself is done in a "industrial techno" style, but since then (and through the rest of the 90's and early-to-mid 2000's) Traci Lords also did various DJ performances in genres/sub-genres of "psychedelic trance" (a.k.a. "GOA"), "progressive trance", "deep house", "break beat", "liquid drum & bass/funk". She inspired "Infected Mushroom" duo.

    • @TheMsLourdes

      Traci was in a bunch of actual movies outside porn (Incidentally that porn she did, don't lookup, not only is it kinda disrespectful now, its also considered CP as she was underage at that time she was performing (lied about age)) that said, she's the blonde in Cry Baby, and she was in the scifi series First Wave. And if you haven't read her book, its a page turner.

      Not really. Not always "successful".
      I can't remember or name many truly successful ex-porn actors/actresses who decided to become full-time mainstream musicians, aside from Traci Lords and maybe also, perhaps, Sasha Grey (who also happened to become a DJ exactly because she was inspired by Lords' successful mainstream career to begin with), and (by a very big stretch) Elena Berkova. I can't remember/recall from the top of my head any other of the "truly successful" ones, outside of those three women. Perhaps there's more out there, but I'm not an expert/aficionado on "history of porn and it's actors/actresses", so I dunno.

    Hands down, one of the greatest video game adaptations ever.
    Paul W.S. Anderson's 2nd film and first Hollywood production.
    Highly anticipated for the end of summer 1995.
    Partly hyped by 2 mini-series; Blood & Thunder, Battlewave from Malibu Comics.
    Everything about the film was great with fight sequences, casting/cast chemistry, special effects, music, and even the signatures of the games (the first 3 installments anyway).
    Johnny Cage's story was originally the main premise of the game.
    Back when Jean-Claude Van Damme was approached to be the JC character in the game, but turned it down and returned 30 years later to be in the new MK1.
    The theme, Mortal Kombat (Techno Syndrome) is originally from the Mortal Kombat:The Album (1994) by The Immortals and was a smash hit for over a year before the film's release.
    It played a huge part of the movie and helped sell over 1 million copies of the TVT records' original motion picture soundtrack.
    RIP to Trevor Goddard (Kano), Gregory McKenney (the first onscreen version of Jax) and recently deceased martial arts legend, Pat E. Johnson (fight choreographer).
    The sequel aka Annihilation (1997), it's considered one of the worse and you can watch it, if you chose.
    But definitely check out the 2021 reboot.

    Such a good movie! Brings back so much nostalgia~ Liu Kang is my favorite and he's done so awesome in this movie. The sequel is not as good as this movie, but I'd say it would be fun to see you react to it. I don't remember it as well as the first. As far as the new movie and whether it's reaction worthy, I would say it is worth a reaction, but it doesn't hit like the original in my opinion.
    It has great effects and fight scenes. And the Scorpion and Sub-Zero story line is good. I think Kano overshadows everyone in the new one. He's very good and probably worth a reaction all on his own. I enjoy the new Liu Kang even if he isn't able to match the legacy of the original. I think the two biggest flaws of the new one is that its main character is a little boring and it takes itself just a bit too seriously at times. A little more cheesy or corniness could really help with its identity. Another flaw that they would fix if they do a sequel is that Johnny Cage isn't in the first one. As a fair warning since he's your favorite. X'D
