Fun Fact : Jeju Dialect is something like a whole different language. I'm Korean & been to Jeju several times, yet when they speak only Jeju dialect, I can barely understand about 5 % of what they're saying. (I never studied Japanese, and I can understand at least 10 %, so figure it out..lol)
The cheesy-corny goodness is for eating separately as a side. And while Jeju black pork is quite a thing, that tooth-feel of the fat is imho what sets it apart. Eating as ssam is great, but to really appreciate it one has to simply choose the fattiest cut on the griddle, sprinkle with salt or dip into that sauce Pete tries at 5:25, and just much and feel the blubber resist and then shear and cleave between the molars.
If you're still near Jungmun, or just still on the island even, there's a place called bakeshop sniff where they have really nice cinnamon rolls and milkshakes.

Just to remind you, in case you don't know how to read and write Korean charactors, it will only take you half of a day to read and write Korean since the Korean alphabet is such easy. You might not know the meanings of the words but you will be able to at least read and write. It is worth trying, so just try!!
Since this video I have begun learning! I have a seven day streak on Duo Lingo and it’s been sooooo helpful. Thanks for pushing me to do this!
@@StephandPete i watched several streamings that foreign streamers tried to learn Korean using it. But imo its just garbage... it shows complicated but totally useless characters such as 궯 but weve never use these kinda things in real life! So once you encounter the step, just skip it. Good luck with you guys. :)
Ah, good to know! I haven't gotten past just learning the alphabet yet, but that alone is so handy, like you've said.

I’m in California and corn cheese is always on the menu at Korean BBQ restaurants and usually eat it as a side dish, it’s sooo yummy! 😅

They go deep diving without an O2 tank. They catch shells, conchs, mussels, sea squats etc. Sometimes they catch small octopuses.

I had my honeymoon in Jejudo in June of 2000. It was scenic and food was delicious but it was one of the most humid places I have visited.
Oh really!? We were in Vietnam this summer so are quite used to humidity. 😅

Steph and Pete, I loved all your jokes in this vlog, including the towel one, LMAOO 🤣 Also, thank you for giving me yet another shout-out (!) but I'm sorry if the Teddy bear museum wasn't quite as entertaining as I was thinking it would be when I first suggested it (oops, haha). That forest track is...yeah a bit too adventurous to be properly named "healing", but you're clearly healing us with your lovely smiles, as always.
I actually am realizing that the southern part of the island is somewhat underwhelming in scenery compared to the northern part near Jeju city (actually has more walkable trails with more picturesque beaches, volcanoes, windmills, etc., plus the traditional dongmun market is also on the northern part), so I apologize if my first list of ramblings/suggestions just confused y'all more than helped you (I was even telling myself to make a note about the northern vs southern distinction but prob forgot), but I'm still so looking forward to seeing the second part of your Jeju travels, and am always amazed by how positive you guys are, even when you guys encounter "unlucky" lucky boxes, super typhoons, etc. Please keep up the good work, and a big 감사합니다 😍
Oh no! The Teddy Bear Museum was great! It's great to do things we wouldn't always think of, and we had a really fun time. The forest track was nice too. It was short! And healing! :) We unfortunately didn't get to spend time in the north but we really enjoyed what we saw. Because we don't have an international drivers license (dumb us!), hiring a car wasn't an option so we just vowed to enjoy ourselves and not try to do it all. Then our trip got cut a few days short! Anyway...I'm sure we'll be back one day!

And absolutely, it's wonderful you guys focused on enjoying yourselves rather than spreading yourselves too thin, so definitely smart and wise here, not dumb!! PS - I saw your Busan pics on ig, and I think it would be fun to try some grilled eel (장어구이) there, paired with some bokbunja (복분자), which is korean raspberry wine. You can also try this combo back in Seoul as well!! That pairing is very popular for Korean men because it's supposed to be good for stamina 🤣 but also because it's delicious! Looking forward to seeing the rest of your travels 😍

Another great video c: If you like side dish culture, It never made it to a video but I have footage from when I went to suseoksa and legit, we had like... 40 side dishes. it was absolutely insane. imagine like a kings high table, entirely covered with side dishes. I've never seen anything like it lol.
We had hanjeongsik with Dinggle right when my parents got here. Not sure when the video will be released. Is that the same?
@@StephandPete honestly I'm not even sure what it was I ate. I couldn't tell you. But it had a couple of dozen vegetables and herbs mixtures. It had mackerel and all sorts. We then turned it into a giant bibimbap like mixture. It was fantastic though. All the spices were made in big traditional pots outside the restaurant. One day I'll definitely return to make a proper video about it to go with the main temple video I want to make! c:

In the countryside, I would often see little old ladies on their atvs ( ?) bossing the streets in the middle of full on car flow. They’re like 80, still work on their farms, and are basically like get outta my way, I got places to be.

I’m travelling over to S Korea and on to Jeju early October from your video the weather still looks hot and humid and much warmer than the UK at the moment - did youtake and jumpers/ warmer layers trying to pack less…. and match the weather conditions.

If I may answer your q, Korea has typical 4 distinguished seasons. In October, an autumn is one of the best time to visit and the most beautiful season especially on the peninsula; mountains covered w. indescribable picturesque foliages. Yes, you definitely will need Jackets, light coat and/or warmer layers as season changes over quickly from one to the other. More, Jeju is always warmer than Seoul since it’s in the southern part of Korea. Happy travel!
We have been traveling for 13 months and mostly in very hot climates! We aren't very prepared for cold weather, and we haven't yet needed jackets here in Korea, and by the time we need more than the denim jacket/sweatshirts we have, will be on our way to India! Jeju Island should be divided into west, east, south, and north. In the morning, enjoy yourself in various places in the east, and when the sun sets, go to the sea or travel destination in the west, and you will see a wonderful sunset. Heys is always fun and energetic. I hope you have a happy family trip. Take care of your health.
