I have a couple of these completely unmodified in Hawaii. Going to be sending one to Washington and the other I’m repairing some front end damage from a Lexus that hit me head on. Your choices for modifications and execution/fabrication skills are superb.
Great build break down! The spares box has to be the most important feature to the truck! You’ve given me more ideas for spares for my D1. I always carry a box of spares which has, AUX belt, water pump, alternator, belt tensioner, oils, brake fluid, filters, fuses, UJ’s, 9/16 spanners and most important the viscous fan spanner!
Very nice truck and a sensible and very capable setup, just need to get a gigglepin winch upfront be unstoppable! From Steve near Chester England 🏴 where the Roman's once lived. And 40yearscof owning landrovers.👍
@@myarmytruck mine is the 100% stock but I’ve just gone through diffs gearbox replaced every thing that was worn out the Next thing will be turbo and looking at your build. I’ve got a lot to go. lol Looking to do the Simpson desert and maybe Canning stock route next year Love the content mate. Keep it coming.
@@johannblaauw677 i don’t actually know as it’s never been on a dyno, going off the turbo kit manufacturer data I would say it around 130hp and 500nm to the tyres
Great high speed low drag setup. Keeping things light is the way to success imo (I get through stuff in my 88" petrol that TD5 monsters can't go by packing light). One thing I do recommend though is get some aluminium ex-mil storage boxes. They're not much heavier than the plastic ones you use, but they keep the dust and water out. Especially nice for clothes and stuff. Otherwise some of those dry bags also work for non-pointy stuff. Q: you do some serious deep wading. How did you seal up the snorkel/airbox/breathers? really looking forward to the winch build!
@@warci yeah weight is everything ay, will have to keep a look out for some of those storage boxes. I still run all the breathers which sit nice and high up on the firewall. I have extended my fuel breather height also. It’s flexy hose from the snorkel to the air box. I actually pressure tested the system before the trip and found a few pinholes luckily I had time to replace it. I also run some rubber around the air box lid to help it seal. Never found water get into anything apart the interior 😂
Absolutely brilliant work! Be happy to have you on any work team/expedition I was involved with.
