Neil Peart of Rush was a DCFC fan. He included the studio version of this song as part of the "walk-in” mixtape during their Clockwork Angels tour in 2013. Neil had been making these mixtapes for Rush audiences since the late ‘70s. It was a job he deemed too important to leave up to the sound techs.
    RIP Neil.

Wow, I didn't know that. Death Cab's drummer Jason McGerr was in the Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage documentary as one of the many musician fans of the band (and especially Neil), but knowing that Neil reciprocated the appreciation is awesome as I'm a fan of both groups.

I love when Death Cab put a little grit on it. Their softer stuff is great too but they have a way of making the "musically aggressive" still seem pretty darn refined.

Yep. Transatlanticism is my favorite. It came out when I was in college. I had my first real relationship, and I was absolutely love drunk. I was in college in the mountains of Virginia, and she lived in Virginia Beach, about a 5-6 hour drive, but I'd still do it just to see her for a day. When it ended a few years later, this song always reminds me of that first actual relationship. Haven't seen her since 2007. I think about her every now and then. I hope she's doing well.

First off, what a mind-blowingly awesome arrangement of We Looked Like Giants. Holy shit.
Second, it was sad news for the indie world when DCFC signed to Atlantic, but I think it's actually helped make larger audiences aware that there is a whole lot of music outside the mainstream. Post-Barsuk DCFC definitely opened my eyes to the local Northwest sound.

I like this version. On headphones, you can hear the separation of the two guitar parts during the main riff. On the studio recording, they are so well blended, it's hard to hear where one guitar starts and the other ends.

Your words just shattered me Ben. There is a Ryhe lyric that talks about love burning bright and burning fast. Young love is a lot to swallow when you look back as an adult. We definitely looked and felt like giants. Not so much anymore. "Life hadn't really started yet." F

Everyone in the comments acting like Ben isn’t a modern day poet that just happens to be a lead singer for a successful band. Tbh, Ben’s lyrics are beautiful and resonate so well to those of us who are introverts, I would be a-okay letting history mark him down as a 21st century poet. Just amazing music all around.

Ben's playing a GNL, they make these strat types with tele necks/headstocks. The whole band has been using them for some time, although I think that he uses the tele version more prominently now a these days.

I love the fact that DCFC seems more concerned with topping what they did last time, instead of simply relying on label input for future projects. That's the kind of thing that's killed the buzz I've had for so many bands in the past.

actually i don't think it's a strat. look at the headstock. death cab doesn't play lots of real fenders from what i can tell. fenders are the most copied guitars out there so there are tons of other brands that look just like them. i know nick's current bass looks just like a p-bass but it's not. same with most of ben's guitars. if anyone knows what type of guitars they play currently or how they're modified i'm really interested.
