I've seen too many youtubers doing the exact opposite of what you guys advocate. The market has been a sea of crazy and you guys have been an island of sanity.
I just love watching you two, to to hear calm voices, nice people, smart discussions. It's great for my mental health :) oh and the financial education is great too!
I have been watching investing videos and FIRE videos for months and I don't how I just now found you guys, but this has to be the best channel yet. Keep it up. Thanks for doing what you do.
Guys you are amazing, thank you very much for all your sharing. I am Portuguese and I fell so happy and proud to follow your adventure in Portugal! Thanks gents I hope you enjoy
You guys are my model. I never ever one day thought of investing just watching your channel it gives me a different perspective in life and how to invest.
You guys are great - love your channel. This is 100% the right advice .... do NOT try and time the market. No one is smart enough to get out at the right time, and then even more difficult, back in at the right time.
Close to 18% return in just about 4 months is remarkable, specially given that you've invested in Index Funds and ETFs. P.S. Congrats on launching your online course, Amon & Christina 😊
I like your series about market timing, yes consistency and dollar cost avg is best, but you can't ignore fact that sometimes you have to pull out, due to certain market factors and seek opportunities elsewhere.
Great video as usual guys! Started my investing journey this month in index funds, regular payments each month have been set up. See you at FIRE in 10 years!! 😁

We love hearing the updates on how your portfolio is doing! We are also on our F.I.R.E journey and hoping to accomplish it in 5 years. Thank you for addressing market timing. It's hard not to get too scared and want to jump ship and sell it all. 3:55 "That doesn't sound sexy enough!" 😆
I think I agree, market timing is really difficult. The best thing is to regularly invest like you would with savings, but when you see an opportunity invest more at that time.
I get notifications every time you post a video and I watch it ASAP! I have been following your channel for over a year and I can't believe that I learn something new with every video. I used to be extremely intimidated with the idea of investing, I am not risk averse but I am the type that prefers to have control over my life and money. Investing somehow did not give me the same comfort that savings did. That has changed now, watching your videos has encouraged me to learn more about investing and to start investing. Thank you.
Thank you so much for all you do! You've helped me take so many disparate bits of knowledge that were confusing and you've helped me make sense. I can't thank you both enough!
Thank you for being the financial youtubers with a sense of structure and sanity! I’m all about dollar cost averaging every Monday, no matter what is happening w the market!!!
After finding your channel about a year ago I switched to long term investing and everything you have said has been correct. It is less stressful watching the market go Up and Down when you know things will inevitably be back up not to mention all the dividends you collect while you are in. I wish I started sooner as I'm in my mid 30's so retiring early is probably not possible but I still have a goal of becoming a millionaire before I do retire. Thanks for your help!
I did it! I put my 5K in the 3 index funds like you 60,20,20% and kept 6 months in savings. I was going to use the money to buy my car lease next Aug 2021 20K, but I’ll use this time gain some interest on the money instead of it sitting in a savings account making no money. I will set up automatic payments of 1200 a month. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom
Really hit right on my face! 😅😅 Now I know that my weakness is checking my portfolio every single day 😭😭😅 It really effects my emotion and sometimes I just don't top up my investment because I think market will crashes someday near. So now I will 'forget' my portfolio and just check it once a month 😊😉
As always great video! Thank you Ammon and Christina! You mentioned before the investments are automatic, so do you pay a “salary” to yourselves from the 4% annual you take from your investments? Do you have a fixed date to withdraw that 4% or is it a monthly equivalent? And taxes? Are you planning a video on that? I love to see you both every Sunday!! ❤️
@@bmahoney1568 I also like the question about taxes, I am assuming that if they are withdrawing let's say $4K a month to live in Lisbon, they must estimate or set aside enough monies to cover the estimated taxes to the US government. Also, since they don't live in CA any longer, I would also assume that they wouldn't be subject to CA state taxes, just federal.
Great video. I find timing the stock market is as risky as timing the housing market. Have a budget and long term investing plan (dollar cost averaging), and sticking to it is a safer bet.
It is ALWAYS a good time to max out every tax advantaged account. What you do after that, is up to you. Me personally, I am waiting to scoop up more rental properties next year
Awesome video, each time I watch ready to pause; take notes, looking something up, and return to press play. So much important information! I love how thorough you bothcontinue to be which is helping anchor portions of my financial education on youtube and beyond. You have continued to inspire my fiance and I to invest with purpose, invest with a plan, and invest for the long term! Thanks for the inspiration and education.
The best way is to do both dollar cost averaging and buying when the market is down, I do sip on my investments and when the market corrects by 5-10% I add lumpsum amounts, hence pyramiding ie:buying more at low and less at highs to get maximum possible returns.
Another awesome video, thank you! I wonder if you are thinking of doing one for seniors or those about to retire, what their investing strategy would be?...asking for my mom! 😄
Thank you for the amazing content! I'm wondering about one thing, though. I don't think I've heard you discuss how exchange rates influence your spending (aside from a quick aside that your USD are going a bit further now). I have spent a lot of time in Europe in the last twenty years, and have bought euros anywhere from .80 USD to 1.40 USD. This has a big impact on purchasing power and withdrawal rate. Since most of your assets are in USD, do you have a plan for if the USD - EUR exchange becomes less favorable? An emergency fund in euro ETFs? Just curious how you think about currency exchange risk. Asking for a friend ;-)
Curious about socially responsible funds that exclude fossil fuel companies, tobacco, gambling, for-profit prisons, etc. Any idea on good funds to choose? Thanks for your groundedness and widsom in your videos!
Great video. As far as I’m concerned market timing isn’t worth my time or energy. Maybe it is for some people but I’m not putting in the work it will take to beat the statistics. Low cost index funds, DCA over the long haul, and hit them harder when it dips. Simple enough and effective
Kudos on the great video. I know you all are big proponents of REITs. I’m curious if you could do an update video on your REIT holdings. So much uncertainty in the real estate market right now - retail and restaurant bankruptcies, workers not returning to offices, etc. Would be great to hear from you all on REIT performance and your thoughts moving forward on those investments. Thanks!
Thank you. On another note I haven't seen all of your videos but can you point me to a video explaining how to start off with small liquid and work towards independence?
When you say have a plan, what kind of plan do you mean? Also, when is it a good time to tap into our profit or sell our stock? Is it once we’re in need of the income?
Hi I had a question around FSRNX in your Fidelity/taxable account. I had watched your other episode where you discussed being tax efficient when using both tax advantaged and taxable retirement accounts. In that video, you spoke to the importance of utilizing your tax advantaged retirement accounts to be built up with investments that normally would be taxed more frequently and you had placed REIT stocks in that category. Is FSRNX a REIT stock? If so, why do you have it in your Fidelity (taxable/brokerage account)? I have recently found your channel and am really appreciative of all the great information, trying to absorb the basics, thank you!
There are 365 a year sometimes plus one day. If we subtract 104 weekend days and maybe 10 holidays that the market is closed, that leaves us with 251 trading days. If the market has 30 really bad days each year, that leaves us with 221 good, average and not too bad days. My investments run from moderately conservative, growth and aggressive. I am looking at 10 years down the road. THANKS!!!
I really need help not just for myself but my 18year old daughter. She wants to move to Korea and I don't have money to send her. Yall are very resourceful when it comes to international travel so I need help to make this happen for her
I'm all about DCA, but I get a little greedy when the market drops like it did a few months ago, and I bought all KINDS of goodies (index funds and blue chip/dividend aristocrats) on sale...and yes, I'm long term. This is for retirement, and is all in my Roth 😎
That's not greedy, it opportunistic. I like dollar cost averaging in funds and also invest and trade in other accounts. I enjoy testing my performance against the market and being an active investor/trader.
Yes, it is possible to time the market almost perfectly, if you combined fundamentals and technicals. I did sell before March 2020 selloff and bought back after a month.
I always love your videos! I currently have a target date retirement fund from work and like to watch your investment videos just to be more familiar with the stock market in general. I am not at the point of investing more in the market yet (still working on paying off final debt) but I feel with your guidance I will be more than comfortable when I get ready to buy stocks outside my 401K. Thank you for continuing to inspire us all. Love you guys.
What would you do with a lump sum to enter the market? 80% initial investment in VTI or similar, then dollar cost average the rest for the next 12 months? Thanks!
Do you ever consider the Russell 1000 index? It out performs the S&P 500 and is more diversified. Seems to be a cross between the S&P 500 and the Total Stock Market. I'm adding it to my portfolio curious why you have not talked about it before.
Hi, i have de total market index found, but the no zero exp. ratio one, the FSKAX. i dont know if the price per share or the exp. ratio has something to do, but im not getting good returns on mine ,like you guys do on yours. any advice?
Do you guys have a video about the types credit cards that you have? I'm looking into travel hacking with credit cards, but not sure which one to get. Thanks!
Good show!! Have you guys done video on 'Inflation''... In 2020, you need 3 Million to retire.. In 2030 you may need 6 Million in portfolio.. Good topic on 'Timing'.. Thank You!
Any particular reason you didn't include small/mid cap choices? Even though it's a "total market" fund, the weight for the is mostly large cap, correct? Thank you!
Question: if you are taking the money from the savings you meant to buy a house with, why are you investing some amount every month and not the full amount you meant to invest all at once? Wouldn't that be more profitable? What's the strategy behind? Thanks :)
I love you guys videos! They’re really informative and very honest and straight to the point! Please do ore videos about investing into Vanguard Index Funds, I just started investing and I’m for a long term path. 1 quick question tho, does investing on Index funds really gives income? Thank you and more power to you two!
I get this but how do you apply this principle when you own individual stocks? I invest in Index fund and have around 10 individual stocks. How do I know how much money to put into each individual stock on a monthly basis?
Hi Guys Another great video. I recall that you keep 2 years expenses, so that you can stay invested in the stock market after retirement. I guess this is so that if there is a market downturn, your not selling at a loss, but can use your 2 years of expenses until the market recovers. I like this idea. My question is do you keep the 2 years money as cash or invested in bonds or other low risk investments etc. regards Mangal
Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure they said they use a high yield savings account. If not, that's what I'd recommend doing personally right now because CDs and money markets don't have much higher interest rates anyway. Why lock up money or risk losing it for a 0.5% higher return? But that's just me. I know some banks like Ally Bank now have a no penalty CD so you might want to consider looking into that if you have a bunch of cash and 0.5% matters to you.
Love your videos. Thanks so much! Would love it if you’d talk about your opinion on the market in the time of COVID and where it’s headed. Also, what has your experience been seeing the BLM movement from Portugal? How do you talk to the girls about it being American but now living as expats?

Great video - as always! Are you guys also learning Portuguese? Tenham uma ótima semana! 😁🙏👍
so what is your strategy to adding the 1200 per month,
I get this but how do you apply this principle when you own individual stocks? I invest in Index fund and have around 10 individual stocks. How do I know how much money to put into each individual stock on a monthly basis?
Hi Guys Another great video. I recall that you keep 2 years expenses, so that you can stay invested in the stock market after retirement. I guess this is so that if there is a market downturn, your not selling at a loss, but can use your 2 years of expenses until the market recovers. I like this idea. My question is do you keep the 2 years money as cash or invested in bonds or other low risk investments etc.

I am curious why you guys pick 15th of each month to invest instead of any other date?
Love your videos. Thanks so much! Would love it if you’d talk about your opinion on the market in the time of COVID and where it’s headed. Also, what has your experience been seeing the BLM movement from Portugal? How do you talk to the girls about it being American but now living as expats?
Hi I was wondering if there were any books that you have read and recommend to help me to get to financial freedom
Great video as usual! What did you do with your Robinhood Portfolio? A quick update would be nice.
Thank Kyle - check out our last update on the channel. We explain our plan with it! :)
