  • I HATE not being in control of a stressful situation! That's the worst part about being 8 hours away for sure. Everything was fixed and I didn't even need to be there...my wife was right again.
    For as long as I can remember Abbie has been working on identifying people by name. It's certainly something she has struggled with although it doesn't really hinder her life so there probably isn't any real motivation to learn it. I have always thought the confusion stemmed from comprehending that people have names and most of us have more than one name (for example: dad, husband, Asa, pops, insert expletive)

    I have raised 2 daughters... 2 grandchildren one who is on the spectrum and have cared for my parents palliative care in my home. I have NEVER been able to afford a holiday nor will I ever. I have not even been able to put anything aside for retirement and I am 60 yrs old. My 2 grandchildren are now 20 and 22 and are still living with us. Money isn't everything. I have no regrets. I would sacrifice it all again

      I became disabled at a fairly young age (30s, am 37 soon to be 38) and will never have any retirement since I cannot work anymore. Life happens and sometimes you just have to do the best you can. One of my brothers is severe, nonverbal autistic. My parents are caring for both of us in their 70s. It sucks, but it is the best we can do at the moment.

    As a renter most landlords dont' fix things until they are at their worst, as most landlords don't believe in upkeep until they forced to. Most renters can't afford repairs, so they have to wait till the landlord finally responds to them, and once the landlord does the repairs, they up the rent.

    • @fatheringautism
      @fatheringautism  3 місяці тому +24

      I think most people talk about the horror stories with rental properties and don’t talk about the good landlords. This for example is the opposite case. The owners couldn’t get ahold of the renters so they could get into the place to fix the leak. The renters never called the landlords. The owners/landlords fixed the leak and sent a crew to my place to repair the drywall and water damage.

      @@fatheringautismThe issue here is the regulations that stop an owner/tradesmen entering a property to do essential/urgent work when tenants refuse to be available. Since I been a home owner for 3 years. I have learned alot. One being, most landlords have home warranty insurance, to repairs items inside their tentants homes or apartments, if something gets broken.
      I have 2 home warranty insurance for all my appliances, if anything get broken.
      Far as Asa ceiling was damaged, due to water leaks,most home warranty insurance paids for replacing ceiling damage, if they have to break the ceiling out.
      I believe that what happen to your situation Asa,the landlord had the crew from the company,repair yours,cause it's in his contract

We got the estimate today. $35,000. Ouch. The tree guy believes we have over 40 trees that were damaged, down, or need to come down. Of course, insurance covers zero of the cost. Luckily, the trees all blew one direction and away from all but one building. We have very little damage to our buildings.Just 2 spots of siding.

    First of all, never wait until afternoon to do work if the temperature is high. It will only get marginally cooler. Instead, you need to get up early (6am) and work in the early AM until 9-10am at the latest. 5-6am is typically when the daily temperature is at its lowest and mid-late morning is when the temperature increases rapidly, only descending slightly until sunset.
    I’d ditch the ball cap and wear a head band to keep the sweat out of your eyes) or some kind of wide brimmed hat with ventilation.

    Honestly: how profitable is owning an AirBNB that is so far for you to travel to? The fact that it is a MFH (multiple family home) that is rented out in sections by two different owners is in itself a problem IMO which is perfectly illustrated here. Perhaps your neighbor can buy you out and save you future headaches and expenses like this?

    • @fatheringautism
      @fatheringautism  3 місяці тому

      It’s actually pretty good. This wasn’t an expense because the repairs were handled by the upstairs owners. We are coming up on a year of having it as an Airbnb. After all expenses, mortgage, repairs, cleaners, etc we ended up at $8k profit for the year. The real profit is the property is essentially free. My only goal was that it pay for itself and it has out performed that metric. It’s a wise asset to have in the trust when we are dead and gone. The condo’s value has done nothing but increase since we bought it. Im sure we will sell it at some point but immediately invest the profit into a higher value property, rinse and repeat.

    Asa- if water was leaking for several days, you'll do well to prepare for insulation and drywall replacement! Think about this: if it's not flooding, like a burst pipe, it had to be very waterlogged before being noticeable in your unit. Not trying to stress you worse. Also, if the damage is from the unit upstairs, it may be up to the landlord to cover your costs. I'm not sure about in that state, but it was the liability of the owner where the water came from. Your insurance agent will be able to tell you more. My ultimate advice, get a water damage experienced contractor! You want a licensed professional ensuring that there's no residual water or mold issues.

    From where the original leak sprung from = = = that is the cause - if it extended into yours - It is their responsibility. Their Insurance. But IF they contest - Your Insurance will claim from them. And grab back that money for you but also make them claim responsibility.

    Seems like the owner of the upstairs unit should be liable for your costs, especially since they haven't done anything about the leak in their unit. Maybe call the HOA?

      @@vickiyoung5651that’s just rude. Of course she does! This channel isn’t about Cilla, it’s Fathering Autism. It’s about Abbie and Asa. We actually don’t see you do anything either … does that mean you just sit in front of your screen all day making silly assumptions?
