Really proud of this kid!! Hes a tough kid and beat everyone at 133 who they said he couldnt beat to become the national champ. Way to go, Nick. They better never doubt you again.
Nick Surianio, Rutgers University Scarlet Knights, 2019 NCAA DIVISION I WRESTLING 133 LB.(the toughest weight class) CHAMPION. No one can ever take that away from you, Nick.
I remember the first time I met Nick at premiere wrestling club, I could tell he was something special. He was only about 9 or 10 back then. Congrats man! Jersey is so proud.
New Jersey is very proud of you Nick!! You showed a true warrior's heart battling through all the tough calls, you kept wrestling and showed the country how tough you are. Congrats man!!
Ever since his loss to Spencer last year in the final, when he gave a humbling and honest response, I wanted him to win. Congrats Suriano keep on going man.
Everyone knocking Suriano's and calling him a punk this season, he is full of character and has a champion's heart. Some of you will never understand his mindset.
Congrats, Nick. You are the top collegiate wrestler in the nation. Now, between you and Fix, will the future 2024 OLYMPIC champ step forward. Not so fast, Nick.
Much respect for Suriano, no doubt! He did "hook" the earpiece with his fingertips. Props to Dayton as well, he wrestled at my high school, Stillwater, OK Pioneers! Again, huge fan of Suriano, I just like talking about wrestling, thanks!
@@pjtja9523 I can see where you might think I'm on crack, LOL. Hands on headgear is OK, no issues, but he did "hook" the earpiece. Again, I am a HUGE fan of Suriano, I just like talking about wrestling.
Very fortunate the refs called the stalemate on the ride out. Everyone else in the tournament would've been rode out. I've never seen a stalemate called so quick. Whether you like double boots or not 90% of matches refs let the man on top attempt to ride out in that situation when both wrestlers are still active. It's not like they were just stuck not moving. Call it stalling it's called a tough leg ride. What was a blessing was the gift the ref gave Suriano with the stalemate.
So true. Same ref did the Iowa -Ok state match when Daton Fix beat DeSanto 2-0 with the same exact ride. Ref let it go 2min. as he should have. It is called riding. That is why they give 1 pt. for 1 min. more than the other wrestler. Used to be 2 pts. for 2 min. Where is the consistency. Never saw a ref in my wrestling career call the stalemate with 9 sec. left to win the NCAA title in one of the toughest weight classes in College when the top man has a 2 on one arm bar with boots in and bottom man is as explosive as Nick. Ref decided to change the course of history by stopping the match for another start. Unbelieveable. Refs make mistakes. He did. I know because I have, but don't decide who you favor in such a big match. Congratulations Nick Suriano. Hope to see many more matches between you and Daton. Best match of the evening.
I don’t want to say he isn’t going through some things, but the kid has been a stud all his life. Maybe it helps to motivate him wrestling with a chip on his shoulder, but no one counted him out. After his loss to Micic, I said that he was the best wrestler at 133 lbs when he is aggressive. He’s as physical as Fix and DeSanto and on par with Micic on offense. He could have lost today had the refs not called a state mate late just before his escape, but I would have felt that the better wrestler lost.
Nick is great and so is Dayton and that’s great that he fought through the end but they shouldn’t of stopped that stretcher and they shouldn’t of stopped that them at the end he grabbed the headgear but congrats to nick he is humble and good for him because but I wanna see that again pretty bad.
"Ashamed" of your name? Melodramatic much? You're talking shit about America's greatest international wrestler and coach of the most successful college program in history. He was fighting for his wrestler. Ease up on the dramatics.
Yes thank you Suriano for once again making me feel like shit about my body... someday you'll look like the rest of us Haha! Happy he got title, gonna be exciting to see if he can repeat
he had a horrible attitude all season. hate that guy. i can guarantee he will have no international career. just a defensive wrestler. i hope hes studying hard and learns a little humility
This interview makes me dislike him even more. You want a national championship and you're still trying to blame the refs. Rule number one don't leave a match in the referee's hands. Raven putting down legends that paved the way for you to get there in all honesty so glad you're not at Penn State anymore

Totally agree. He really fought for it and earned it. Ashnault too. Really happy for both of them.

So happy for this kid. He put it this weight class. Unreal. And I’m a PSU fan and still rock with Suriano. Happy for him. What a monster.
One of my all time favorite wrestlers, good for you Nick, you deserve it!!
Nick, congrats. I have been following you since you were a freshman at BC. Great match, you are one tough kid. You made jersey proud tonight.
Congratulations, Nick! So happy and proud!
Truest thing about wrestling is, never give up or quit and you will be successful!
I bleed black and gold a Hawkeye fan but when Desanto's was out. I wanted Nick to win. Class act !
I love this M'Fer!!! (Nohomo), he's an absolute Beast that conducts himself well in all facets of the game. He's got heart for centuries

From what I hear Suriano is going into the MMA and doesn't want to be in the Olympics.

I don't care what some people say, he's a good kid. He leaves the tough guy attitude on the mat--exactly where it needs to stay.

Im ashamed of my name after watching what John Smith tried pulling tonight. Trying to work refs over like that was disgusting.

He grabbed his headgear when fix was in on a shot at the very end

😄 Exactly. Was a push, not a grab.
