A perrenial problem, my friend. Its wonderful to see someone trying to make sense of the XPS market. The USA seem to be able to walk into stores and buy EVERYTHING [and not pay through the nose either]. The rest of us watch their videos and curse. Thanks again. Video Liked and Saved.
Thank you. I knew some people couldn't easily get it but I had never understood what kind of % of people. So putting it all together made sense. thank you and good luck crafting :)
In the US I can just walk into any home improvement store and pick up a sheet of 1"x6ftx4ft for around $15. Then the army moved me to Europe for a few years and now it's damned near impossible in Belgium to find it!
in sweden the blue xps foam thats called xps300 is the cheapest one. the pink one is more expensive , then you have white one wich comes in the middle for pricing
If you cant find it in spain try going to Leroy Merlin on the construction part, im from portugal and bought a sheet there of the blue stuff for 2,50euro
The stuff we can get in the US is ok, you can do a lot with it. It is very spongy though and it doesn't take to detail that well. I've been looking for a source of Styrodur or something comparable that isn't too costly for years. I'm hopeful about the new Army Painter stuff.
Try 4 D model shop based in London UK . If you want a decent foam board with a face paper that comes off easily try Kappa Line . Again from the 4 D model shop . I use them and find them good .
For the Aussies watching, $12.50 per sheet from Bunnings. They always have a full shelf of it, and if you buy 2x $25 it’s 2.4x1.2m in 30mm thickness :)
@@TerrainMadeEasy no worries wasn’t sure so thought I’d mention it :) keep up the good work! Ps. Took our idea of making mini terrain as a test to see if I still had the knack on some old cds, cane out better than expected 😆
@@itzrizzle8778 ooo nice, and it's all good about Bunnings, I'd rather be told twice than not told at all :) Whatever we can do to help people who don't know where to buy it
I have had good results (making buildings for wargaming) using 5mm foam with no paper backing supplied by BluefoamUK (it is actually a very dark grey colour but apparently it is the same as the blue stuff). I got mine via Amazon but at the moment they are only listing 20mm thick sheets and the company website only has 75mm-200mm sheets (production halted due to Covid and only now restarting).
@@TerrainMadeEasy Haven't tried ebay as haven't finished the 10 sheets I got to try - Someone got a new mattress that came in a rather large cardboard box, 5mm thick double walled, prefect.
yeah it's common in a few places and in some places just not. I think it's all to do with like weather and probably like building laws etc. I was shocked at the poll results though, I honestly thought it would only be like 5% who couldn't
That's a bit difficult to answer, obviously if it is sliding you probably want to to be wedge in rather than glued in. Happy t o chat on discord or something. Thanks.
Even the Emperor uses metric :) If you can't find a place to buy XPS on the cheap see if there is someone who does either drywall work, or facade work or guys who install laminated floors. They will always have leftover XPS, since it's often used as insulating material and it needs to be cut to size (around windows and doors for example). You should be able to get those cutouts for practically nothing, since the guys will often just throw them away as junk.
I think the thing is, in some countries they don't use xps for this job, generally if they do, the hardware store might sell it. But maybe there's some trade people who have special access so worth asking.
Only in certain countries, in the UK for example we almost exclusively use Celotex for this as it is much less flammable and is more environmentally friendly, use of polystyrenes such as XPS isn't expressly forbidden by building regs (probably will be soon) yet but using it would be really bad for the buildings fire safety rating.
@@justTJRoots I see, thanks guys. I didn't know that such regulations existed. Here (Serbia) it's widely used both in and outside for insulation, usually under the brand name Austrotherm, and I usually get those leftovers from guys who work with the foam.
"Hey pet, I need you to appear in one of my videos." "Yeah sure thing, what do you need me to?" "Just stand on the landing with this giant foam board". Great video, keep up the great work!
Accurate. The only thing is, I got her to do this like a year ago for another video and I just keep reusing the footage because it shows how big the foam is!
If you're in Germany, any slightly larger Bauhaus should carry 1mx1,75m sheets of XPS in various thicknesses for cheap cheap prices. 4,99€ per board on a 5cm thickness IIRC.
Thank you! I can't get it where i live. They sell the ball stuff everywhere which is worse. Everytime i ask for it at home depot they try to give me fibreglass insulation foam which i don't want
Yeah I understand that, Aliexpress and eventually asking your flgs for the army painter stuff might help you, hopefully it does but still no gurantee :)
I normally would suggest pva or if you wanted to be fancy you can buy a glue that is basically like a foam and will stick stuff together, can't recall the name
Any fellow South Africans know where we can get xps foam? I've been searching for years and the cloasest i have ever gotten to it is using expanding foam and putting it in a sealed box.
What annoys me is the prices they charge for this stuff. I went into a well known craft centre and they were charging nearly 20£ for a metre long sheet, it wasn’t anything special either. Even online I’ve found it to be quite expensive 🙄
Hi. I suggest not spraying foam unless you know a bit about it because normal spray paint can melt foam. So it's actually the accelrant in the spray that will melt it, and technically you can spray at just the right distance to get the paint on the foam but not the stuff that will melt it, but I strongly suggest not doing this, at least at first. There are some sprays you can use but you often won't know what they are, but the army painter have made sprays specifically for this purpose - I had a look at them here: ua-cam.com/video/pol6lXPzQFE/v-deo.html Hope that helps.
When you make a huge number mistake like saying 15 instead of 7, its good that you wrote it on the screen but you could also edit out the number with text to speak or just edit in you saying the correct figure instead :P probably better that way haha ;P
So I always have a dillema if I make a mistake I notice in editing, to reshoot is a pain because the audio won't sound the same and the lights and everything. And there is the time thing. I'll often correct one mistake with text but multiple I would reshoot.
Thats the beauty of the text to speech. It sounds so ridiculous that its the perfect way to demonstrate a self admission of error in a comical way and its insanely fast to just drop the audio in* (*depending on the video editor you're using I guess.) Own those mistakes haha 😄
@@xCriticalStrikex It's not for me. rercorind is what I normally do but it often just feels awkward and goes against the flow. It's just a time thing really
