as a self-taught artist, i've never seen anyone start off with a blue-purple outline. i hope you don't mind if i experiment with that technique. great job, and this really helped me. i usually get very overwhelmed when i paint portraits, because i'm scared i'm going to mess up. you deserve much more attention, this is true talent!
Even though i'm broke and can't afford to start oil painting yet I still look up to you as well as Kelsey J Beckett so much. Both of your paintings are just so smooth and surreal. I absolutely love both of your styles. I thought I was crazy about watercolor, but the more oil painters I find on Instagram the more I love it!!! I can't wait to find a job and make some money so I can start playing around with oils. Thank you for fueling my inspiration and art adventures!! xo
at michaels theres those beginner packs of like 24 mini oil paint tubes usually for around 20/30!! also michaels has coupons like 24/7 so you can get it half off. i used those for a long time and theyre great for the price
I work at Michaels and I know they have a 5$ fine art area (artist loft brand) where you can get a cheap set of oil paints and brushes ($5 each). They aren't the best quality but they are good for starting and to see if you actually want to use that medium. (There's also gouache, watercolor and acrylic sets too). You can also use water-soluable oil paints if you don't want to use all the chemicals. You still need a medium (I cheat and use an acrylic medium) but you can wash your brushes with water and soap so it's pretty nice.
I love how relaxed and comfortably you approach painting. And mostly how far away you’re able to hold your brush away from the painting, except when you do details. You gave me some ideas for a portrait I’m stuck on of my niece, she’s very pretty and I’m worried I won’t make the background match-but now I can relax. I’m painting calandrinias and have been caught up in details-I’m going to let them be blurry. My favorite part of your painting was actually in the beginning when you were describing the underpainting colors you like to choose-that’s the stage I liked best. But she’s beautiful and you’re a fantastic teacher!
Wow! You paint so fast! I wish I could spend my whole day painting and drawing, after school I hope to get a job and after saving up finance becoming a full time artist. Thanks for being a huge inspiration to me Lioba!
Beautiful painting techniques and such a beautiful artwork. I checked out your reference photo and my my I absolutely LOVE your photoshop edited version! This certainly gives me a ton of ideas... Thanks a lot for inspiring more!
I love your work, I seen this video on Instagram and I was going through videos on here and seen your video and I got so excited ☺️ Thanks for the steps they helped me out a lot🙂 can't wait for more.
This has been super helpful! I use mainly watercolours, but I have oil paints that I have used like once... Also, I have never seen mahl stick? in use. But it looks really useful and I think I might need a one. When I paint oils, I always forget that paint isn't dry and smudge it accidentaly with my hand. But you inspired me to get my oil paints out and give them another try. :)
hello! I enjoyed watching this video very much. please explain the types and sizes of brushes you used for each of the 7 steps, round, flat, filbert, liner etc. Thank you!
This video is one of those videos which make me depressed and happy at the same time. Pro : It´s goddamn beautiful and I love painting/watching people paint . Con : I start realizing I will never be able to do that. Been painting with acrylics since 7 months regularly and I actually make progress, but well ...
Do you start off with purple every time you paint a portrait? I'm curious to know if it's to act as a sort of soft outline after you add the skin tones.
I'm not that experienced with painting but i think it depends on the picture itself, if you're using a reference try to find a color that matches up with the rest of the colors? Usually dark colors would fit (like dark red, blue, purple etc..)
Lioba Brückner Danke für die Antwort! Hab noch eine deutsche Seite gefunden, die die Produkte anbietet: www.petersart-shop.de/?ActionCall=WebActionArticleSearch&Params%5BSearchParam%5D=Gamblin
really good, but like most painting tutorials on youtube it goes like this. "get your paint, and then do a painting". Even though you made steps, you didn't explain why you were doing what you were doing, why you chose the colours or shapes etc. Not trying to be harsh, Just would like more in-depth instructions.
I'm afraid you need to pay for in-depth. If you like it enough, you should consider going over the paywall and getting the instruction you desire. After all, it is definitely more cost effective than going to art school, and you would be feeding the starving artist, a win-win in my book. Please understand, I fully get that you really want quality instruction, at a cheap-as-free price, but it would be poor business practice on Lioba's part to give all the goods away for free, wouldn't it? Sorry for the length, and any perceived lack of tact, it is unintended. Best of luck in your endeavors!

Lyn ahhh me too, I would really like to start but the amount of mediums and thinners, the cost and the fact that some are toxic just scares me
Sparkling-icetea there are hues that aren't toxic, i usually paint with gloves as well so my skin doesn't have contact with the paint

Lyn you can get a very similar feel to your paints if you add a retarder to your acrylic paints, most are only about 10-12 bucks !

Where do you find your photo references? I love the aesthetic of them.
Foxxy-Fearyn she's mentioned before Instagram she finds models she really likes and asks them permission to use them as reference :)
She finds a model and then takes the image, photoshops backgrounds, accessories, and changes colors.
Foxxy Fearyn it is in the description
Love your tutorial, mainly because the process is identical as mine, love the comparison of the cool shadows with the warm high lights
Wow! You paint so fast! I wish I could spend my whole day painting and drawing, after school I hope to get a job and after saving up finance becoming a full time artist. Thanks for being a huge inspiration to me Lioba!
Thank you so much, Maj! If you work hard and hone your skills you'll become a full time artist, I'm sure!
Thanks for the reply! I would love if you looked at my art and told me your opinion on it, my Instagram's just the same as my name on youtube. (:
Maj Ukooo her paintings are speeded up. It could take a few days during this video for her to finish
I think this is one of the best videos you have posted on youtube so far, you have come a long way from where you started.

How to sketch a painting please~ I really like the way you just sketch your paintings directly on canvas
you are SO talented!! can this technique (blending technique) be applied with acrylic colours? or it only works with oil colours?
I’m just wondering, how long roughly did it take you overall to paint this?
i subbed.good video and nice art.
Must have taken a lot of time to paint it haha I surely can't wait that long!!
How many days does it usually take you to finish a full piece like this because of drying etc?
Thank you so much for this video! Do you let the paint dry in between each step?
Lioba Brückner daaaannkke!
how long did this painting take to create?
What is that thing on the stick👀
I think it's for her to rest her arm on?
It’s called a mahl stick.
😍
Did you have to commission the model? And how do you go about asking to use someones photograph as a reference which you want to sell?
Tolles Video! Wo bestellst du die Gamblin Produkte?
Danke!
what type of paint ?
Love your art! But I don't like when the music get so loud when u don't talk.
Sorry I saw now that some had already told u that.
Can these steps be applied to acrylic painting?
Katrina Hernandez hmm I don't know! Probably not! Acrylics dry too fast for my technique.

Step 1: git gud, son
Based on the accent I'd say you're german. Right?
Yes.
I cant understand a word you are saying. You should add subtitles.
Bist du deutsche?
Bist du Deutsche???
Shape of the lips are so off and the head is huuuge
That accent is so painful.
I know - my newer videos are better though XD
Looks like Doja Cat 🐱
