This is fantastic tutorial. I want to add that when you do put items out on display and set their ownership to the vendor's faction, when you purchase the item the next time the cell resets, those items lose ownership status and end up being free to take. They also don't get seen anymore in the vendor's sell list. Tested on both modded and vanilla game. It may be worth it to put some things on there that either is just owned by vendor themselves or make some statics to fill the area with a few items here and there that the player can actually purchase.
Realize this is years old, but anyone new may find this helpful. There's a 'bug' in a lot of bethesda games where anytime you create an npc that uses any form of dialogue, vanilla or modded, it may not appear in game; Even though you've done everything correct. The "fix" is either go in-game, save then re-load, then check your npc. or use xedit to load your esp only, right-click, other, save SEQ file. Exit xedit. go in game with your plugin. it works. Hope this helps.
Your tutorials are very helpful. I crated a new land, navmesh, and got two merchants using your tutorials. A blacksmith dark elf and a argonian street vendor. Though the st vendor isn't selling as much items as I hoped. She seems to be stuck selling only tomatoes when I want her to sell bread and stuff too. I think I need to figure out how to create a custom container for the vendor.
I accidentally figured out how to change the ownership of items in bulk. This way if you accidentally put out a bunch of items but forgot to set the ownership to the Store for sale, you can just select them all and change it all at once. You can do this by holding the CTRL key and clicking on each item you want to change as a group. Once you have all items selected, without selecting any other key, hit the "insert" key and a box will appear for you to select what you want to change in bulk. I selected owner and then picked the store from the dropdown list. Then selected "Do" and it will be done. You can now exit out of the box and check your items and they will all now have the same owner added to them. Hope this helps someone! It totally helped me because I made my whole store and THEN found out I could sell them through the merchant. I was trying to delete a whole row of apples when I hit the "insert" button instead of the "delete" button by accident. So glad I did!!!
How would one change the existing stock of a vanilla vendor? Say, to add new variants of levelled armour to their stock? Like, for all base blacksmiths, for example?
@darkfox127 I’d like to request that you do a follow up series about this, please. I have to go in and manually select the dialogue for my NPCs, but I don’t know what the vendor dialogue is listed as.
Do you have a tutorial on how to make a merchant follower that will actually sell to you after being recruited? There are tutorials out there but even if I follow them exactly I don't get the results I am looking for.
Thank you. Now I have helpful khajiit merchant in winterhold inn he also able to train me speechcraft to 90, but I use majhad voice lockpicking training to him because I can't found ahkari khajiit member voice for speech craft
Hey Darkfox127 I have been having trouble with getting the merchant to say anything I followed your tutorial all the way through he spawns in the game i go up to him to ask him something and he just is like humm and won't sell me anything
I've watched this video like 10 times and I'm still having difficulty making a merchant. I follow this exactly and the npc I make can sell stuff.... but not the things in it's linked reference chest. For example a potion vendor will be selling swords and bows. Someone please help.
@@sindora1811 try keeping it as vanilla&similar as possible, do the apothecary one here, at the exact same location in the same cell Then if that works, do small adjustments until you get it to where you want
Hi could we possibly get a video on how to make a custom black book and make it teleport to a custom cell I've been trying to figure it out but I've had no luck
I don't know if you still track this video and the comments, but I'm asking you and anyone who could help to try solve my problem. I want to create a merchant that's only going to sell on weekends Saturday and Sunday from 8 to 17 but can't get it working. What I tried so far is to match voicetype to blacksmith and vendor conditions to "GetDayOfWeek" set, but nothing. He just doesn't open up the talk.
pleasehelp dont know what i did not do folllowed step by step my merchants still dont open trade dialogue.have small total new world and cant place vendors
Good tutorial DF also have you thought about doing any Fallout 4 Creation kit vids? there are very few on youtube you might be able to take advantage of that
Not really going to be digging into Fallout by the looks of things. I have too many projects going on with Skyrim and I didn't get in to Fallout 4 much at all. Maybe in the future but not right now.
I am trying to add items to the game sold by existing merchants (having Farangar or Faralda sell new spell tomes). I cannot for the life of me get these merchants to be able to sell the tomes. I tried doing what you did with those potions, by adding the merchants faction as the owner of the tome and placing it nearby, but they still never will sell it. I'm looking for ANY way to add an item to a merchant without modifying them or their chest directly (which would cause incompatabilities)
@RHYFELWR I have long forgotten, but I can assure you I did try adding it to their chest, and it wasn't working either. But that is a long bygone effort.
You can do that. You just make a formlist with clutteritembook inside of it and apply that as the vendor item list on the merchant faction rather than something like blacksmith or apothacary.
Wow, that's so weird because the option is right there in the Keyword List. Thank you so much for the quick response! I look forward to the video :D You've been an invaluable resource for me and many other modders and we thank you.
The only problem I'm having is trying to get him to stay at his own stall. At night after the other vendors have left he randomly walks back and forth to other stalls and stands there to sell things for about a minute then goes to another one.

I dont know if you still monitor your videos but these tutorials have been incredibly useful, I cant thank you enough
It helped me a lot to make a side character into more useful & outstanding character. Thanks!

Thank you so much! My mod will have a shop npc almost like this that will relieve one of the worst issues of skyrim special edition.
Thank you for video, brief and clearly, exellent for "noob", like me.

Just try putting a "COCMarkerHeading" in your cell.

Hi darkfox you might wont to check out skyrim nexus it's not looking good it just make me wont to smash something well maybe later...
I noticed Jala had only one carrot that we could see yet listed 4 in her inventory. :{J
For the life of me I can't get my merchant to sell KEYS. I've put the keyword in the formlist and everything. Can you help me, Darkfox127?
I may need to do a video on that as it's a little different. Merchants cannot actually sell keys so you have to script it.
Wow, that's so weird because the option is right there in the Keyword List. Thank you so much for the quick response! I look forward to the video :D You've been an invaluable resource for me and many other modders and we thank you.
