@Michael Pezzullo no, we didn't. But we DID kinda invent a small, insignificant thing you may have heard of called the f*cking JET ENGINE lol, ringing any bells? Britain is, was and has always been a key part of this aircraft's development whether you like it or not. Go ahead though Michael, tell us all the "truth" in your infinite wisdom lol about the F35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter
@Michael Pezzullo Frank Whittle invented the first jet engine; Germany designed the first one however. Gloster Meteor, the British jet, entered service 3 months after the Me262; the American P-80 didn't see any combat for the war at all. Britain and the Soviet Union were also allies at the time the British shared their jet technology, and were still fighting a tough war against the axis.
@Michael Pezzullo The Gloster Meteor saw service intercepting V-1 and V-2 missiles; they also destroyed about 50 German aircraft when they were grounded. P-80 saw service flying recce missions, though again saw no combat. As for Churchill describing Italy as its soft underbelly, there's truth to that; for one the Regia Marina surrendered to the Royal Navy relatively early in 1943; it was also the first major axis to crack when they overthrew Mussolini, which essentially opened up a new front for the Germans. Regarding German inventions, firstly I want to clear up that I'm not British but Australian; now that that's out of the way, Germany made leaps and bounds in the fields of science and technology, though by wars end they had fallen behind the British -- especially at sea. For example, by wars end the British had ship-borne radar with 3 times the range of German contemporaries; had effective ASDIC (sonar) and ASW weaponry such as the hedgehog and squid mortars; had aircraft carriers (first carrier was HMS Argus) such as the Illustrious, Implacable, and Majestic; and had more effective ship-borne anti-aircraft weaponry and fire direction. On ground and in the air, the Germans and British were roughly on par technologically; Jet technology was roughly on par, as the engines aboard the Me262 were unreliable until later models which mirrors the Gloster Meteors engine performance. There's also the Me163 Komet which basically had a higher chance of killing its pilot than an enemy aircraft. Later iterations of German jets such as the Me263 was going to be roughly on par with contemporary British jets such as the De Havilland Vampire. Regarding atomic bomb research, the Germans started their programme first though it was stuck in political hell and was eclipsed by British research, which was then eclipsed by American research boosted by the British research. German atomic research was also stunted from the politicisation of the German education system in the early 1930s, as well as that whole holocaust thing. Anyway, hot take: World War II could have been won without the Americans or Soviets, as long as one of them joined the war. Japan was having a hard time with China, if it didn't wage war on Britain or America it may have annexed China by 1946 -- though if that were to happen there would be no WW2, rather there would be a European war and another sino-japanese war. If it did wage war on Britain or America, it would have lost; the British Raj was essentially a China on hard mode, and had the largest volunteer army in history numbering 2.5 million men. Britain also had a much superior navy thanks to Japans weak technology. For Europe, then either the soviets don't join and the allies advance to Berlin via France and Italy; or the Americans don't join and Berlin is taken from 3 fronts through Italy, France, and the Soviet Union.
@@gunshipzeroone3546 I completely agree HMS Queen Elizabeth R08 and HMS Prince of Wales R09 do need more protection as they each only have 3 Phalanx CIWS Close In Weapons Systems and 1 Anti-Aircraft Gun and GPMGs General Purpose Machine Guns. That's not enough to protect the ships. However she won't really need any other weapons because she's under the supervision and protection of Daring Class Air Defence Type 45 Destroyers and the Iron Duke Class Type 23 Frigates. And after the Defence Review was concluded the Royal Navy will have a batch of the Type 26 the Type 31 and the Type 32 Frigates that will allow the Royal Navy to protect the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers from enemy ships and aircraft. But she'll also have the F35B Lightning IIs onboard so she won't really need any other weapon system because she already has the protection she needs. Plus the Royal Navy is pushing for the Dreadnought Ballistic Missile Nuclear Powered Submarine programme which will increase our nuclear deterrent and build up the Royal Navy even more. HMS Queen Elizabeth R08 and HMS Prince of Wales R09 will have all the protection they need when each carrier deploys. Which will increase our nuclear deterrent for another 50 years.
