Honestly every single album from Eclipse onwards has been a critically acclaimed masterpiece. Even the weakest album of the Joutsen era, which IMO is "Circle", would be a career highlight for most other bands. While they may not be the most popular or commercially successful, youd be hard-pressed to name another metal band with 7 straight critically acclaimed albums. Not to mention the fact that they evolve a little bit with every release while also retaining a unique identifiable sound.

These men never slide backwards, they never slow down. They never put out anything thats mediocre...Amorphis always writes & plays amazing metal. They have never compromised their style & it just keeps getting more refined every album
Everytime Esa starts playing, I'm drawn in immediately. He isn't just playing the guitar, he's creating magic with it. And then they surprised me with Tomi's growls (with the intro, I was expecting clean vocals throughout the song). Great song overall, and at the end I sat here with goosebumps. And as usual, I love the lyrics (kudos and thanks to Pekka Kainulainen for being such an integral part of the Amorphis universe).
As someone who has enjoyed metal music and metal/rock guitarists since the 80s, Esa is on a different level. He may not be an absolute shredder or virtuoso, instead, he always finds beautiful and expressive ways to harness emotional or aggressive passages. He seems to always know the appropriate characteristics the guitar work needs to have to fit the music without showboating or showing off like so many other lead guitarists. Stay classy Esa.
What an amazing song! Amorphis doesn't disappoint on his albums. Tomi Joutsen has a fantastic voice that makes the song unique. I found this sound to have a progressive feel, which made it great with Joutsen's guttural vocals. For sure Halo will be an excellent album.
Joutsen is my favorite vocalist by a long shot....and I like some bad ass vocalists!! I have high expectations for Halo.....and (especially since Joutsen joined) Amorphis does not disappoint!!
After nearly 30 years of listening to them, I love how fresh and epic they continue to sound. Always Amorphis but always changing just enough. Perfect.
Changing? May I ask where do you hear the changes? I'm really interested in it. To my mind they stopped evolving 15 years ago and play the same music on every album. It doesn't mean I don't like their music, but... It's the same
@@yksi5074 It's not an overt big change, but each album has its own sound and feel to it. I'm also taking their entire catalog as they've gone through several changes. But "Circle" had this darker feel to it in both sound and lyrics. "Queen of Time" was much more bright and open sounding. These may be subjective, but I notice each album having a different feel to it and not the same thing each time.
@@yksi5074 I agree, Amorphis evolution happened between "Tales of.." and "Am universum" then came the lame period when the band tried to get back to its "roots" but kind of failing to reach 10/10. and now they sound stuck in a loop for the past 2 albums and this new song does not bring much change to the table. As a fan since their debut "Karelian Isthmus" i have kind of given up on any big expectations, but they surprise every now an then, but i am not a big fan of their latest works, way too commercial and repetitive/hit formula for me.

AMORPHIS is amazing. They just continue to put out one brilliant CD/Album after another. I think they are incapable of producing a bad (or even a mediocre CD/Album) Major Respect to them and to all of Finland.
You who listen this song and think this is absolutely amazing. Do know that you have great taste of music and you can feel something beyond what words can describe.
Wilderun is my favorite band currently and I came here looking for more. I am not disappointed and will be exploring this band. I've been searching playlists on YT and Spotify, reading music magazines and album reviews for weeks now, going through thousands of songs and hundreds of bands. Amorphis may actually be one of the closest to Wilderun that I've heard so far. If anybody can recommend more bands like this that would be very much appreciated. I don't know if there's a genre name that encapsulates all the specific musical elements that these bands put forward. Looking for mixed vocals, prog-, alt-, melodeath metal with a quality filmic orchestral sounds.
Theres talent. And then theres Amorphis. I'm so impressed how they keep their quality and still make each album different. By far my favorite band. Thank you for this gem!
I love this! I've been a huge fan of Amorphis since Silent Waters and this is continuing to please me. One of the things in particular that stands out about them, and this track in particular, is how good they are at making odd time signatures sound so natural and groovy to the point where you barely even notice it unless you're really listening.
Fan since Tales from the Thousand Lakes. Saw you guys quite a few times live in Montreal. Still around, still amazed. Especially by the last three albums (including Halo from what I've heard so far). Thanks for the amazing music guys!!!
What blows me away about Amorphis is without fail each album has at least 10 moments where my jaw drops open due to how incredible the music is. I can't believe they STILL continue to do it without getting repetitive or tired.
The aura being exuded through this song is one of such a world class band at the top of their game. This feels like a mature and veteran version of Amorphis, and I'm all here for it
That's a really good song! My impression: The intro and the chorus rank among Amorphis' most melodic achievements in recent years, yet the band chose not to play it fully safe. The rest of the song has a more proggy vibe. Hence, this is not the typical people-pleaser and Radio-hit. As far as I'm concerned, the contrast of Pop and Prog makes it a way more interesting lead single than, say, "Her I need" or "Sacrifice". Looking forward to diving into the entire album in February.
I have been following them since 92, when I bought the Karelian Isthmus on green vinyl. Disappointment was something they always failed to create in me. you just know from the first chords of guitars, and the bass and the drum beats, that this is amorpis..been listening to them for a long time.. and they always amaze me with their superior songwriting and musicianship.. it´s always different, but yet you immediately recognize it to be amorphis.
I first heard Amorphis in 1994...and I've been a huge fan ever since. and When Tommi joined in 2005 for Eclipse...it changed everything! I love this band, and everything they put out! So much good music over so many years.
Man, I have been out of the loop for a while, but thank God for Amorphis still being around. They got me through college in 2001, and I love knowing that they're still making new stuff (and it's continually amazing).

70's prog has always been a huge influence. You can even hear it as far back as "Tales..." they were/are hughe Kingstom Wall fans. They were a 70's prog style band from Finland whom Amorphis covered on the Kantele EP.
Love the more organic production, some great guitar work, drumming, Tomi's vocals do sound great. Not the best Amorphis track ever, but makese me feel good about the album. Well done guys!

Man that band never disappoints. Are they the best band regarding technique? Probably not. But their songs have soul, they cause to me they same feeling i had when my grandfather was telling me a story... I just sit and listen. Been a huge fan since 1995 and they keep getting better. They have become my favourite band both on album and live. Especially last 3 albums have been nothing but amazing , no weak songs imo. Can't wait to hear Halo in it's entirety. Whenever Amorphis releases an album I know it's gonna be my favourite release that year! 🤘
Agree 100%. UTRC and QOT are masterpieces among masterpieces, both easily among the best metal albums of at least the last decade. Ive been spamming my local rock radio station trying to get them to play this song. I know some people out there might not like the idea of Amorphis being a radio-friendly band, but the reality is that they have been radio friendly since Eclipse. Exposure equals more earning potential. These guys have given the world such an amazing musical catalogue, they deserve every chance to make as much money as possible.

Tales From The Thousand Lakes and Elegy are the best Amorphis albums till this day. And they hardly will be ever surpassed.

I'd say Tales From The Thousand Lake, Elegy, Tuonela, Am Universum can be named as the golden era of Amorphis.

Of course that if you know the band since the beginning those albums will be more relevant to you. But to me all albums are good. I don't think they have bad albums.
@@hdmetal9507 It's weird cause I LOVE Tuonela but Elegy just doesn't grab me, not a bad album at all, I just feel like I'm not hearing what everyone else does. TFTTL is great but I didn't care much for Am Universum. I'm not knocking your opinion just when people mention loving Elegy I feel left out. :(

Man that band never disappoints. Are they the best band regarding technique? Probably not. But their songs have soul, they cause to me they same feeling i had when my grandfather was telling me a story... I just sit and listen. Been a huge fan since 1995 and they keep getting better. They have become my favourite band both on album and live. Especially last 3 albums have been nothing but amazing , no weak songs imo. Can't wait to hear Halo in it's entirety. Whenever Amorphis releases an album I know it's gonna be my favourite release that year! 🤘
Agree 100%. UTRC and QOT are masterpieces among masterpieces, both easily among the best metal albums of at least the last decade. Ive been spamming my local rock radio station trying to get them to play this song. I know some people out there might not like the idea of Amorphis being a radio-friendly band, but the reality is that they have been radio friendly since Eclipse. Exposure equals more earning potential. These guys have given the world such an amazing musical catalogue, they deserve every chance to make as much money as possible.

It starts like "I've heard this tune before" and about to click away but as the song proceeds it gets better and better. Nice one!
