This album has the old school Fieldy slap bass sound which i love 🖤
Some interesting fact: On the last song, "Holding On These Lies", the producer Ross Robinson tried hard to get the emotion out of Jonathan Davis by making him kind of "serenade" this song to his wife who was instructed to observe him sing the song to her.
That would obviously screw up someone very badly. Singing a deeply personal song to your spouse in her face.
Ross is great at getting performances out of Jon. The problem with this album, and Ross has admitted it, he didn't let the band have fun. As dark as those first 2 albums are, the band had fun on them. This album is forced, and that's not a good thing. Besides, Korn had grown so much as a band. You don't let a band that has evolved so much, put away all they have learned. I also feel the biggest problem I have with this album is the mixing and mastering. It just doesn't feel as thick and powerful as Korn is known for. It's missing that thick low end. The first 2 albums were thick and punchy. Sure, it might be a matter of missing Head and getting used to a new drummer, who is vastly different than David was, but I feel like Munky didn't have a problem making up for Head's absence before this album. I recommend holding out for Paradigm Shift. It's definitely a breath of fresh air after an odd period in Korn's career.
Not to mention it was a back to basics album without Head who was a big part of their sound during the time this is trying to recall.
The minute head came back to the band that thick low end sound came back along with the quirky sounds he create.
This was the first album recorded on tape since their early stuff. Jonathan Davis found going backwards to be a very bad decision. He had a really rough time with Ross robinson that pushed him in ways he didn’t appreciate to say the least. All being said I enjoy Jonathans performance on the album a lot
yeah, i think this is one of those moments in which Ross really pushed everything too far, but that is what you get when you wanna replicate the same intensity from the early material.
Jon may have found it to be a bad decision but who says Jon even knows best? This is the same guy that thinks "take a look in the mirror" is their worst album and "untouchables" is their best.
@@stevefred2694 well he definitely has a say when HE'S the one going through it. Yeah he should've thought it through but fans know he had issues pleasing fans. Doing it all for fans. Even touring their debut where he performed Daddy every show. That's fucking tough. He would end up crying every show iirc
@@stevefred2694 Take A Look In The Mirror is definitely not creative and Untouchables sonically sounds incredible!
Probably my third favorite Korn album, just cause I’m a sucker for b-sides and the whole thing sounds like an album of b-side demos recorded in a shack. The emptiness works for me like there’s no tomorrow.
Please don't make us wait an eternity for the next Korn album.
Give us a new year's gift 🤣
"Oildale (Leave Me Alone)" will always be my favorite! I can't believe it's already been 12 years? Wow!!! 😳 I was 21 in 2010. I absolutely miss the Mtv days now. Sensational upload tonight!!!🤘🤘💯😎🎸🥁🎤🎸
I remember when it released as well, I was 19. Time flies T'T
I tried so hard to get my friends to like this album.
Time really does fly, doesn't it? Glad you enjoyed the video :)
@@trevor5071; Same! My friends were actually black. 😂 I guess 🤔 it came from all those years of listening 🎧 to Jimi Hendrix on the radio 📻 when I was younger? I absolutely hope it was because of that.
@@mollyesanborn; I absolutely enjoy ALL of your videos on your channel. They're like a time machine for me! You ROCK (🤘) & RULE!!!👍💯🎧📻🎸🎤🥁
That emptiness is possibly Brian "Head" Welch the other guitarist not being back yet, He does in 2 more albums tho. The 2 songs i like most from this album are the special edition bonus tracks lol
Yeah I think his absence is a big part of it. He really brought a lot of flavor to Korn's music. Can't wait to see what I'm gonna think of their newer records when he returns, that'll be interesting.
this is def their hardest album to let grow on you, but i can assure you that parts of it'll you'll find to love
my personal favorites are The Past and Never Around, so so so underrated
I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s their hardest to let grow on you because it’s purely subjective. For me personally, I liked almost every song right off the first listen. And it took only a few re-listens to get on board with the remaining couple songs that I wasn’t that into initially. Whereas with other albums, the “growing on me” process was much, much slower. Hell, even right now at this moment in time, there’s still songs on See You On The Other Side that still haven’t quite grown on me yet.
@@PotawatomiThunderNew dude it took me a full year to even enjoy The Nothing
@@4qu4h3x yeah see that right there just goes to show because The Nothing is probably their most well received album since their early albums
buckle up for the next few albums, your in for a treat
Listening to these latest albums makes me mourn the loss of the Korn I knew from Issues and Follow The Leader.
The past and oildale are my favorites from this album.
I get the vibe that you really haven’t been feeling their last four albums as much as the earlier ones you reacted to especially the first two. I think those two were your favorites. Just hang in there and make it through the next one because after The Path to Totality the next four you’ll like much better than the last four you reacted to. Keep up the good work!!!
Also fun fact: The ending ambience in "Lead The Parade" was Jonathan Davis signature bagpipes playing.
Actually, not. It is just reversed guitars
One of my favorite albums in a long time in its entirety. I love the simplicity the mix and vocals. Also anger of course. Although Jon suffered, I will cherish it. Not many misses for me on this album.
Korn live is so good, they play songs over decades and although my ears are ringing for a day or two after well worth it. Want to see them go on a full tour with POD soon, can you think of anyone else?
I think the “hollow” aspects may be due to them trying to emulate the style of their first two albums, but with only one guitarist instead of two (this was before Head/Brian rejoined). Btw I recommend checking out the deluxe edition bonus tracks “Trapped Underneath The Stairs” and “People Pleaser”!
Their next album “Path of Totality” is probably their most divisive one. It’s basically a dubstep metal album. I honestly enjoyed it more than I thought I would when I finally listened though.
This album was praised upon release. Years later the fans have panned it but I still rank it #5 in their discog. Its got the rawness of old korn but the instrumentation is way more precise. I wish you reacted to the bonus track "trapped underneath the stairs"
Yeah I never understood the hate for this album. It was nice to hear them go back to their roots. I know the band hated the experience, but the end results came out solid. IMO this is their most underrated album.
Can't wait to see what you think of the next one and then we get "Head" back in the band after that and I know you will hear their corky sounds again when Head and Munky play together
So I recently discovered your videos, basically reacting to my teenage playlist haha I love it. Subscribed easily
Your videos have been so entertaining to watch this year. Hope you have a great New Years!!
My favorites on this one are “Lead the Parade” and “Holding All These Lies”
Munky’s guitar solo at the end of the closer is so special and so creative & in retrospect I don’t think we’ll ever get such an unhinged vocal performance mixed with such a catchy chorus from Jon like we did with “Lead the Parade”.
Obviously not their best album but it is soooo incredibly crucial they went through this process without Head on guitar and with Ray playing drums on a Ross Robinson produced album. Everyone paid their dues and the next few albums is where everything pays off and goes back on track.
I'm very excited to see your reaction to The Path of Totality :)
Track 12 Trapped underneath the stairs and Track 13 People Pleaser are missing :(
But great Video of course! One of my favourite Albums
Wow. 25K+ subscribers!
Great Job! 👍
I've been curious to see your reaction to this one for quite awhile now. Totally understandable that you're divided on it as it's one of their least enjoyed among fans and Jonathan himself. But for some reason I keep coming back to it without any skips. I feel you're critique that it can be samey at times but I don't know, maybe that helps it become a smoother listen for me. Outside of the sound, the lyrics resonate with me more than most albums I've heard. Basic concepts like letting guilt go, being a people pleaser, and lying to those you love hit me in such a personal spot that I can't help but vibe with his emotions. It's definitely not the stand out album that the first few were but it's with me nonetheless. As always Molly, enjoying your Korn journey. I hope you keep having fun with it!
Can't wait for you to get to the 'The Paradigm Shift" the increase of quality is immediately noticeable after Head rejoined the band
I’m so excited to see what you think of the next one
Also, koRn is the only band I can think of that you can tell what kind of music the band was listening to solely by what their album sounds like. Early koRn was more hip hop and Mr.bungle type sound. then it slowly became more and more different.
Banger as always !! One band I would absolutely love for you to check out on the channel is Live without, from the iconic dennys grand slam 😂. The band is actually really good and not as big as they should be, so I figured you checking them out would shed some light on them. They only have 2 projects to my knowledge which are kind of smaller ones but still very good. I’m sure I’m not the only one here who would enjoy the hell out of that.
I do wish you would've done the deluxe editions of these last couple albums. There's added songs on all albums pretty much except older ones.
Hi Molly! Happy New Year! Cant wait for you to get to The Inevitable and I by HRVRD! Nobody else will request this album but I PROMISE you wont regret it!
I live this album! Reminds me of the first two albums
I'm super exited for your nexst koRn reaction I love this album I rank it number 4 on my ranking koRn list
Easily their worst imo, though the previous two give it a run. Fortunately, you're almost out of the slump where it starts steadily going uphill again if you continue.
Also, you should check out cannibal corpse lol.
I've got Cannibal Corpse on my list to check out! And yeah these last few Korn albums have been a bit lackluster, but I'm very intrigued to hear where they take their sound from here.
The next album is going to blow your mind I can't wait 👌
Is that sarcasm?🤔
Hey some people legit love the next album, who knows...
tpot is better then korn \\\ be honest lol
Oooh, Move On is a groove. Pulled me in. Vocals were fierce but kinda reserved and swampy. It had movement but a resistance that kept it from becoming totally free? I think that tension made the track. Like the opposite of Never Around where it breaks through. Great reaction, Molly. Keep 'em coming!
Path of totality is a fun experiment album
Nice one! Get ready for next one lol 😆
the following album is hated by many, but I particularly like it, I'm waiting for your reaction from now on.
Sweet !! Korn the Best!! Great reaction!! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
While next album is a whole another kind of genre, I gotta say, some of the choruses are worth coming back to and the aggression is present. There's always an interesting infusion of sounds in Dubstep so I'm looking forward to your analysis. Also almost happy new year!
don’t give her spoilers i wanna see her surprised
You're not wrong about it sounding empty. When I listened to it for the first time I remember thinking...yeah this is the first album post-Head leaving where it's discernable that there's only one guitarist. Alot of the main riffs are played on one string...without Head doing the same (where it would have sounded fuller) and without any kind of double tracking. I've gotten used to it over the years and I find tthat this album plays ALOT better when it's listened to in full.
I loved this album. While many hated it. That pattern continued from SYOTOS through the next album, TPOT, essentially.
But don't stop yet!! Im seriously looking forward to The Path of Totality and Paradigm Shift albums
Thank you :)
No plans on stopping, I definitely want to finish off their entire discography all the way up to Requiem. I am very excited for The Path of Totality, I have no idea what I'm in for with that one.
@@mollyesanborn the past 2 albums are their low point - they keep getting better from here & TPOT is a necessary experiment that reignited the fire for KoRn. The album The Nothing is possibly their best ever album, very much looking forward to the next 5 albums!
@@mollyesanborn this album was produced by Ross Robinson who did the first 2 albums, hence the name Korn 3, they were meant to recapture the first two albums raw sound and vibe, but Johnathan Davis and munky reflected how much they didn't enjoy making Korn 3.
Honestly same TPOT through Requiem is probably my favorites from them as far as their latest albums
@@mollyesanborn I really hope that you listen to the version of the album that includes the two 'bonus tracks', since "Tension" is one of my favorite Korn tracks ever :)
Next album from Korn “the path of totality” is definitely gonna mess with you lol (I personally love it, have fun with it when you give it a listen)🔥
Korn rocks I love them Ross Robinson really pushed the band to their limits on remember who you are I love this record old school korn vibes
Aw, I wish you would have done the deluxe edition with the bonus tracks. My favorite song on the album was actually "Trapped Underneath The Stairs" and also "People Pleaser."
thanks, lets see the video now
Hope you enjoy it! :)
@@mollyesanborn It's definitely always nice to see your reaction and hear your point of view about the material.
I actually really like this album. Yeah it does sound a little empty and strange here and there, but I think it gives it a unique experience in comparison to other albums in their discography. This album was produced by Ross Robinson, who produced their first two albums, hence why it's called Korn 3.
Be prepared for The Path of Totality. On that one, they collaborated with several dubstep artists, creating a fusion of their own style with dubstep sounds and elements on each track. Very different, just to warn ya. Still great imo!
It's called Korn III because they made two other self titled records.
When guitarist Brian Head left around the time of See you on the other side, there was a void in the sound effects of the Korn sound, drummer David Silveira left before the recording of Self Titled, so that album has a lot of strange electronic drums. On this album they tried to go back to their origins and it is the first with current drummer Ray Luzier.
👍🏻 My daughter was the first to by the cd at my local hot topic and got a free signed poster, we saw them live for this tour, I prefer the earlier stuff but it’s all good. Are you going to get to any of Jon Davis’s side music?
I may try and do some of his side projects once I finish up with Korn's albums, we'll see. I'd love to hear his stuff outside of Korn.
@@mollyesanborn the band worked on movie soundtracks and did some amazing covers, I hope you get a chance to listen to a compilation of those songs.
I think Uber Time is so quiet so you have to turn up the Volume for the rest of the album, and so the second song hits you right in the face ^^
This album is decent. Have some really good moments. Regards!
Yeah, there are a few moments on this album that are pretty fun. It sure is an entertaining listen but I do miss Korn's earlier stuff.
@@mollyesanborn I know that this album is not popular among people who dig their music but I kinda enjoyed it. This album is weird in a way that I find it interesting.
@@dondominicoseliga8723 I agree, it's very weird! It's not a favorite of mine in their discography but in a strange way has a few memorable moments on it.
@@mollyesanborn you gotta go for The Nothing album. This is Korn I like. Lyrically and musically it’s pretty deep and dark.
the album is called remember who you are, but it is also called "korn III" because it is the third album made with producer ross robinson who also produced the band's first and second, that's why "Korn III" why is the third
Great video! Not sure if you take requests but could you react to ELP's Album Pictures at an exhibition? Thanks
"Lead the Parade" is one of our favorite KoRn songs.
Love your album reactions, whatever it is, it's always interesting to hear your opinion. You should react to marilyn manson albums like antichrist superstar and mechanical animals, those albums are very interesting...anyway, keep doing what you're doing, you're good
There are some great songs on this album. Pop a Pill, The Past are real good.
I wish people in the comments stop with the spoilers geez.
You can say things about the next album without actually telling how it sounds
Please listen to Trapped Underneath The Stairs, one of the hidden tracks in the album. Probably one of the best Korn songs.
I think most could objectively say the last truly great Korn record was Issues. This era without Head in the band was a bit wild and certainly rough at times.
Oildale is a big track , defo in my top 10
what do you think of trying some 'the smashing pumpkins' albums?
Ross is like that childhood friend that comes back into your life and expects you to be the same guy you were 20 years ago. Jonathan went through hell recording this.
They recorded this album in a small garage as a four piece band with the producer of their first two albums to bring back that old school vibe. It’s very stripped back, there’s a lot to like from this album.
I believe producer Ross Robinson had a lot of different tricks to get Jonathan super emotional. He essentially bullied the whole band through it.
The next album Path Of Totality, is by far Korns most polarizing effort. It features a heavy amount of Brostep elements. It won some awards, and honestly sort of put Korn back into some sort of relevancy. It’s a complete 180 from this record!
Again, a lot of that “missing” element you keep mentioning is that they were down to one guitarist. Munky did an amazing job by himself, but you’ll get that factor back from The Paradigm Shift onward…but I think it fully comes back on the Serenity of Suffering.
If you like dubstep, you will love Korn's tenth album.
''Untiled, a weird direction, futuristic with it's sound and a lot of electronic touches, curious if Korn III continues with that'' be PREPARED to look back at these statements and thoughts when you hear Path of totality. OH you'll either be haunted by your words about Untiled, or be blessed by the surprise of loving Path of totality (there's 2 sides of fanship for this album, LOVE and HATE)
Some european climatic metal from 1990's:
"Wildhoney" Tiamat
"Jester Race" In Flames
"The Angel And The Dark River" My Dying Bride
"Turn Loose The Swans" My Dying Bride
"Khaooohs & Kon-Fus-Ion" Pan.Thy.Monium
"Dawn of Dreams" Pan.Thy.Monium
"Brave Murder Day" Katatonia
I feel like you should start reacting to meshuggah id start with the second or third album. They are very technical really talented and heavy with hard to grasp time signatures. I think you would really like it.
Unrelated to the video, but you should check out fantastic planet by failure. 90s space alt rock grunge
Damn I forgot how many of the songs were bonus tracks and not on the original -- I think we're just now getting into the most interesting stretch of albums
I wish you listened to the special edition that has “trapped underneath the stairs”
Stay awesome
Aw thanks! :)
@@mollyesanborn just remember to stay happy that's all that matters
Hey Molly. You really have to check out the band soulflys first album from 1998. I have a strong feeling you would enjoy it a lot
I like this album
New drummer on this one, again.
Definitely there are more things I like than I dislike about this album, I love the ambience and drums, for sure Jon vocals never disappoint. Maybe is too much low profile even compared with life is peachy. Pop a pill, never around, oildale, the past my favorite tracks
You gotta touch Soundgarden one of these days. Superunknown (1994) would be a good Starting point. If you like the Metal/Sludgy elements work your way up chronologically or if you like softer/psych elements work down.
I'm ready for you to react to rage against the machines next album and korns of course lol
The last two songs are about his ex wives pill addiction. Guy went through alot on the making of this one. If you watch the DVD it shows them recording it in full. JD loses his shit at the end. I think the album is great. Never really understood the hate. It's raw. It's emotional and it has great bass as well. Is it quirky at times yes, but overall it has everything you'd want in a Korn album.
They had to make this album because without it you wouldn't have the complete shift to the next one and where we've ended up today with the latest album.
Please react to Tool - Salival (2000), very interesting box-set to listen to!!!
Can please do review of Korn songs Blind & Twist at Woodstock 99 live
The thing missing is brian head welch!!
You are really missing out by not getting the special editions of these albums....the bonus tracts for this album are especially worth the time :)
My biggest fear going into 2023 is that there's a Sally Monborn out there somewhere just...plotting
It keeps me up at night
When this album came out I really enjoyed it but nowdays not so much.
I feel this album is very ... i don't know 🤣
All I can say is the next albums I enjoy them more
would love and enjoy if you reacted to hollywood undead and like a storm. like a storm is from new zealand and incorporates the didgeridoo
I think i read that Korn really regreted this album becasue they thought they were just going backwards instead of innovating and you can kinda hear why,
Would love to see you react to Siamese Dream by the Smashing Pumpkins next. One of the best albums of the 90s and one i think would fit your taste really well.
I thought the writing was good for this album but the production was a little off. It sounded smothered, like it was recorded under water or in a closet. Still a good album and I got their autographs with the deluxe pre order back in 2010.
I'd agree that there was something kinda off about the sound on this one. I kept mentioning a fuzziness and "empty" quality in the reaction, maybe that's what you're hearing as well. Just a kind of lackluster tone to it.
@@mollyesanborn I think you nailed it! I also heard they turned the Gain down on the guitar amps for the recording.
Tone isn't quite there, but I love all the songs
They only had one guitarist here, and if you listen to the isolated bass, Fieldy is just screwing around about a quarter of the time. The drums are also mixed pretty poorly. Vocals are great, though.
There's two bonus tracks, the last having my favorite chorus out of the entire record. Would recommend.
pop a pill has to be my favourite, maybe trapped underneath the stairs
I feel like this time around Korn was going through some stuff
Head left David as well
And they just wanted to take it back but probably wasn't the best choice seeing as they probably weren't into it
I still like the album but it's not an amazing album
I still think it's way better than the next up coming album
Path of Totality
Oh boy lol
I miss the movie reviews
played the hell out of this album when it first came out. enjoyed it back then still do today, sure its not polished but thats what they were going for. stacked against other KoRn albums it does rank in the middle to lower still a guilty pleasure to me.
This album was recorded on tape, which may be the "static" you're hearing.
This is, imo, their low point. It gets soooooo much better after this album.
This one took a while to grow on me but nowadays I kinda enjoy it for what it is. My big 2 issues however are 1) the Mix and Mastering: Just awful and powerless. 2) Munky's guitar work (all those quirky sounds are just his guitar, which also just sounds flat and to complicated at the same time) didn't really fit in with what they were trying to do (a raw and heavy album). Sadly on The Path to Totallity this trends continue although I think that with a better result overall. Cant wait to continue this journey with you, its been really fun 😊
I think it would be great if you starred to these reactions for a band called pantera. Theyre whole discography is amaxing i think youd really enjoy then
Honestly, all Korn albums have lot of hollow foundation, because there is just something about the bass. It is like unplugged, difficult to even hear some kind of distortion that would make the sound more beefy, compared to bands like RATM, Slipknot or Limp Bizkit from that era.
they recorded this in a room box with walls covered in 70s shag cat piss carpet lol
the cat box
