I watched a different channel use this kit to fill a chip in a BMW. I believe it was silver. The guy did such a great job. You couldn’t even see it anymore. Close or far away. It looked brand new. I’m just saying compared to the job you did his was way better. I think it was because they used a Plastic squeegee to level off the paint. I would suggest trying that. Not trying to say Anything bad about the work you did but just letting you know there was another video where the guy did it perfectly you can’t even tell where the chip is. Seriously close or far away you can’t see it. Thanks for your time and showing us how this works.

Thank you sir! Very good detail video. Just had my delivered today for some fine scratches on my Honda Passport. Love everything about my Honda except the sub par paint or lack of protective clear coat.
Agreed. Except for the paint I love my Honda.
I agree with your assessment of Honda paint. I believe they use PPG paint and for some reason the base coat, clear coat, primer don't bond well to Honda's sheet metal. We have had several Hondas (dark colors--red, blue, green) and all have faded and peeled. The dark blue Odyssey actually had a paint warranty extension, but only for certain body panels.
Thank you for this informative video however, my experience with Dr. Color got way back 10 years ago and still the color didn't fade but saving a lot of trouble doing several layers and found I have to leave the paint on for as long as 12 hours before I remove it with sealer. This doesn't only prevent wasting the color on put on and wipe off cycles but insure the paint is cured enough to resist being washed off. Of course it will be a bit harder to wipe it off but final result will be much better with less color used!
I saw a guy in another video fellowship just like the one he did and was able to make it so you couldn’t even even tell it was there anymore. I don’t think he did this job correctly but he did do a decent job I suppose.

ive been watching a lot of tutorials on how to do this and so far this one has been the best and my favorite. About to do my 2021 Mazda 3 and after 65k miles there are well over a hundred, maybe 200 chips. please believe me im not exaggerating. It's absolutely atrocious how weak the paint is. I was inittially not going to do anything about it because it seemed chasing them was a losting battle. But some of them have began rusting on my a-pillars and roof so thats what prompted me to take care of them asap. I bought a little sanding pen to clean out of the rust spots. It's really neat it just little glass fibers essentially, i hope it works so far its just surface rust. going over with with alcohol after as well before applying the paint.

@@TurnerMobileDetailing it took about 8 hours. I got really good at it half way through. For me i found 3 minutes was about the perfect time before using the sealact solution. 100% recommend the squeegee it's the best at making the paint level.
hope this comment helps anyone in the future. the kit worked great. It looks flawless from 5 ft away and thats all that matters to me for a daily driver.
oh one more tip! Some chips were so deep on the front bumper i took a razor blade to shave the plastic sticking up off to make it flush with the panel. It sounds harsh but it'll make sense if you encounter that.

Instead of using a heat gun to speed up curing time wouldn't a hair dryer on the high heat setting work? They are less intense and people wouldn't have to worry about damaging the surface. I've used a hair dryer on plumbing to soften 30+ year old o-rings on stubborn water valves and it works well. Plus, many people probably already have a hair dryer vs a heat gun.
Yes of course, but I carry a heat gun with me, not a hair dryer that’s all.

Good job Seth. Here in AZ, the cure time is much faster, especially if the panel itself is very warm. I've had great success with this product by building it up slightly higher than the level of the clear coat then sanding with 3000 grit paper and finishing it off by polishing it out. This process does an excellent job of blending the repaired area.
I understand your video was done to show the results when following the directions on the PKG. and the results speak for themselves. This product delivers results that are far superior to the other kits available and make it possible for the avg DIYer to make an acceptable repair.
Is it already that cold there or was this video shot last winter? Seems strange to see you bundled up when temps here are still hitting 110°.😁
That’s an excellent method, I’ve done that on regular touch up paint because it doesn’t come with the sealact. Maybe I’ll try it next time I use it. I just did a Maserati with normal rock chips and took some video show I can show how regular rock chips are done. Maybe I’ll include the wet (damp) sanding method in it. No lol, it’s still summer here, plenty hot! I filmed this back in early March, it was about 40 degrees, just got around to producing it now lol!
Would sanding remove the clear coat around the rock chips/scratches?
@@TheEnvelopeOZnot if you are gentle and not too extreme but you must polish it afterwards. It’s not uncommon for detailers and body shops to use 3000-5000 grit sanding discs to correct paint but you of course have to respect it and not get too crazy
How long was your cure time in Arizona?
Just tried on Ruby Red Explorer…less than satisfied tbh. After 48h their paint doesn’t harden. Small chips maybe ok, but I have a couple 1/8-1/4 and this stuff just looks like crap on the bigger ones using the dab, wipe, swipe whatever other method I applied. Gotta pony up for some factory touch up, wet sand and polish out. Cheers
Yes this stuff is more for smaller chips. For larger ships your gonna need more of a body shop method of filling with paint and wet sanding
I'm about to wrap a car that has s ton of rock chips on the hood and front bumper. Would this stuff be good enough to use as a prewrap prep?
If you want to preserve the paintwork under the wrap then yes. I would make sure to use a hard edge behind the applicator cloth like I did in the video for you final applications though to make sure the repair is flush. If you don’t need to preserve the paint, I’ve actually seen guys use bondo to fill in the chips, then wet sand the area before the wrap goes on.
when using the sealant, does it ruin/remove the existing ceramic coat on the vehicle if you have one?
A quality ceramic coating is solvent resistant, depending on the strength of the solvent. The sealact from DCC is a mild solvent so it should be ok, emphasis on “should”. But it also depends on the quality of the ceramic coating already on the surface.
I have an identical chip on my Ram. After ten times with different cure periods, and having the paint come right out of the chip...I gave up.

No you can clean it with solvent and reuse it
Looks waaaay better than that ugly white scrape before and I'm sure with some gloss enhancer like chemical guys wet gloss and topcoat of ceramic wax that would be almost impossible to see unless you were right on top of it.
so is just a regular touch upo paint, i though dr colorchip was easier to apply. and no sanding or something liek that
how long do we have to wait between 1st application to 2nd application?
Once you’ve leveled the paint with the sealact, and buffed the area, your good to apply the next application
Does that paint not need a primer?
No
So, why can't you let it dry longer. What if you applied it and you got a phone call or use the bathroom and you couldn't get back to it for several minutes.....................???????
It’s not that critical, but the longe you leave it on, the harder it will be to blend. I believe they recommend blending it before the 24 hour mark.
PRO TIP:: Use the squeegie provided or any small flat object inside the cheesecloth to not dig the paint out when your buffing it out. This will save you from doing 3,4,5 coats. Trust me.

Yes that’s the point of multiple layers. But each layer still needs to be blended individually.

You made mistake at the beginning for not cleaning it with alcohol a little bit to take out grease and dust from the chip area's.
Did you watch the video? At 02:40 it’s cleaned with alcohol.

@@nukeelda it’s diluted alcohol. You never use straight alcohol on your vehicles paint.
@TurnerMobileDetailing like what's percentage of alcohol, I know it shouldn't be 100% but some mixes have other adding to it but I guess I missed that part of you cleaning it Tnx for video it was nice to see at cold weather fixing it.
40% alcohol, 60% distilled water, that’s it

That's looks bad. Why not do it the proper way and sand it flat prior and then apply and dry then sand flat again and buff?
Because this video is not about wet sanding, it’s about how to use the dr colorchip system.
