And now I know where my steak and burger came from!😊. Us city folks couldn’t enjoy that treat without your hard work. There’s still a roll for those old machines in our food chain. Not an easy life for you out there, I’m sure. You are appreciated for all you do for those of us that depend on your work. I clicked the subscribe button.
are those cows black angus? like the white faced baby, nice video it is neat how the adult cows are food driven and follow the tractor to the feeding area. soon the smaller ones will do the same.
Hi 🙋🏻♂️ Great video 👍🏻 ! Good looking cattle! Reminds me of growing up feeding cattle very much just like what u are doing. We always ran some hogs with the cattle they would clean up everything the cattle wasted and recycled the grain after it went thru the cattle. We had a feeder for the hogs to but I’d say it cut the amount of feed in half to finish out the hogs. The one thing lots of ppl don’t realize is the way ur finishing out ur beef gives it the best tasting beef. Too many ppl try to add the corn over silage right to the end but to me u can taste it in the meat it gives it a sour taste ! It’s like soaking ur steak in jack Daniels before u grill it ! If I want JD I’ll have it on the side ! LOL
That’s the truth we’ve never ran hogs with the cattle but that’s a good idea and definitely have to agree these are the best tasting cattle around way better then any grass fed for sure as I know what you mean with them trying to finish in weird ways and it can definitely change the flavor fast
@@knappfarms Yes it just don’t taste like corn fed beef should taste. If you buy it out of the meat counter at a store first it’s hard to really know what ur eating ! Then when you fry a burger as it fries u start getting this gray looking liquid coming out of it. That liquid is water added to the burger. They buy bulls and thinner cows and they don’t have much fat on them so they can add water to it and sell water at over 3$ a pound . If you figure that out water weighs 8.33 lbs per gallon it makes a gallon of water sell for $24.99 a gallon! The reason u know it’s water and not tallow is tallow fries water boils! So when u see the gray liquid coming out of a grilled or frying burger ur actually boiling the water out of it and that’s why when it’s done it’s about half the size you started with and it’s dry inside!
@@jackfrost1460 for sure that’s why I always tell people to support local farms and butchers you get better quality at a better price if you factor all things in
ih the cows eat a lot of corn how often do you fill them tubs for them and water looks all ground up and mix hay with it where is this and thanks for the video.
We feed each cow 14 pounds a day feed them every morning and we feed feed rounds bales as needed we don’t have a good way to grind the hay in without expensive equipment we are in North west Indiana
Yes on occasion we sell a few wholesale but haven’t had that problem the last couple years with beef demands we we have 3 different little butchers shops we go to now depending on what people prefer or what is available and sell it all by 1/4
Look for some of my grinding feed videos some say recipe in the title they will go in depth and check out Gro-Tec they supply all the ingredients except the corn and actually created the recipe for us based on what we told them we wanted
They are standard size we just try our best to breed the crazy out of them not worth getting attacked just because a cow has good calf’s so crazy’s go to the sale barn.
We have never had that problem could be the beef maker 6 we use when grinding it has a lot of the calcium and minerals they need could also be the different soil types having different minerals that the cows new here vs there
Our grinder doesn’t have a scale and we don’t have time to grind feed every week or two so we like to do multiple tank fills on a weekend we are off sense we all work full time jobs
@@knappfarms makes since was just wondering, brings back memories of hog farming. Lord we would grind 3 times a day 7 days a week. Glad that was in the past !
@@knappfarms I know this will sound strange, the one thing I do miss is the sound of the feeder flaps . When the pigs would lift the cover of the feeders and eat then take their heads our there was a distinct sound it made and any where on our 880 acres you could hear that. Fishing in one of the ponds, or deer hunting on the other edge of our property that sound would echo every where
@@knappfarms thats great, but you can fathom the grain chocking them right...im not employed by any animal rights org.so my statement is on a public view one...theres gotta be a better, easier way to feed them other than with a shovel to keep the dust down thats all i really wanted to express, thank you..
There are easier ways to feed them but conveyors and scales or augers cost money and for our side herd there not enough return to put that kinda expensive out as well as it doesn’t cut down on dust any if you watch when I grind the cattle feed it is very dusty all around when I auger it off and you can’t spray the corn with water to knock the dust down or it will mold and that will actually cause some harm to the cows

Almost all of them are 50% + black angus but they are all crossed up with various others Hereford short horn and simental
G'day mate
Keep the cow content coming 😂🐮
Cows are in nice shape
Thank you we do our best to make sure all our animals are happy and healthy
That's amazing, how did they ever figure out to feed corn to cattle! Lol

Good looking group. What weight do you guys shoot for when butchering on your cattle?
600-800 hanging weight 1100-1300 live weight
hi, did you use corn gluten? Or is cornmeal better for cows?
At what age do you mark your bull calves?
We castrate them all at 7-8 months old
Do you market all your beef direct to the consumer?
Yes on occasion we sell a few wholesale but haven’t had that problem the last couple years with beef demands we we have 3 different little butchers shops we go to now depending on what people prefer or what is available and sell it all by 1/4
I'm trying to do the same thing what's your recipe on the feed
Look for some of my grinding feed videos some say recipe in the title they will go in depth and check out Gro-Tec they supply all the ingredients except the corn and actually created the recipe for us based on what we told them we wanted
Are your angus regular size or lowlines. They sure look docile and content.
They are standard size we just try our best to breed the crazy out of them not worth getting attacked just because a cow has good calf’s so crazy’s go to the sale barn.
@@knappfarms I understand that. Thanks. Have a great spring.
Thanks for sharing your videos! What is the protein content of the feed that you mixed?
Not sure have not had it tested we have just over the years adjusted our mix and watched how that cattle grow
If you watch my Grinding cattle feed part two I give a good description on everything that we put into it and how much corn is in a batch
Can they digest the corn grain properly
After it is ground up yes then we add the yeast to it to help digest even better
How do u not get accidosis, curious as I feed the same and always get one or two that get it
We have never had that problem could be the beef maker 6 we use when grinding it has a lot of the calcium and minerals they need could also be the different soil types having different minerals that the cows new here vs there
Try feeding a coarser grain and add corn slower especially to smaller weaned cattle and feed free run to all hay they want.
Why not feed straight from.the feed mill?
Our grinder doesn’t have a scale and we don’t have time to grind feed every week or two so we like to do multiple tank fills on a weekend we are off sense we all work full time jobs

Yeah that’s a lot of feed I did 6 tank loads last time I ground but that will last a couple months now
@@knappfarms yes sir that ole feed meal got it's work out we used Milo, soy bean meal swine premix ....was not quiet as tough on the knives as corn

Sucks if you're allergic to sweet corn
all that grain dust is in their lungs that will make them sick less money for you if im true
We have never had a breathing issue with our feedlot cattle lungs aren’t as sensitive as horse lungs
