Girl, I LOVE cinnamon Altoids but never have decorated the tin. I’m going to give it a try. I make a gallon of iced tea a day, so I’ve got a great supply of large bags. I’m in central TX, the highs are up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit daily, so I’ve gotta have my iced tea, lol! Can’t wait to see the next video.
Holy macaroni, 106? I better stop complaining about how chilly this summer has been here in Wales. Two things that are not big here are ice tea and Altoids. I make my own tea and whenever a friend visits from the states, they better be bringing cinnamon Altoids, that's all I gotta say. Oh, there is a course on altering Altoid tins in my pipeline, hopefully this fall and it will cover everything, including tons of ways to cover the raised print on the cover. Stay tuned!

Hi Kelly, thanks for all the great ideas for tea bags. I never thought to print on them. I am not a fan of tea at all. I never tea dye anything. Can’t stand the smell. Lol 😝 So I dump them out and coffee dye them. I crumple, twist, fold etc… They turn out awesome. Also I learned the hard way which of my inks are not water proof. Haha 😂
Perfect! I have a stash of tea bags but have seldom used them, mostly because of a lack of my imagination. You really inspired me to get them out and just play with them to have at hand for random other projects. Thanks.

I was happy to find this just after you posted it! It has been a very hot day here in Castagnola, so I need a calm diversion!😊😊 It just so happens that I was given four tea bags at my cosmetics store - calming tea - haha! You've come up with so many good ideas! Some days I don't feel like expressing thoughts, but I do feel like making raw materials for pages 😊
Hi hi hi. It's funny, Kathy. I am drawn equally to spending whatever I can afford for the best quality in, say, paint and paper, but I also LOVE being resourceful with what I have. It's fun. Come to Wales. I am wearing long sleeves here in Swansea. 😎😎😎
Thank you for this video. I hadn't tried pouring leftover tea on to the wet (used) tea bags, but I am going to do that next. Also I love the stamps...especially that orangy-red flowered one. Oh, and I love all the other ones, too.
Thank you, Siobhan. It is hilarious how much one can learn about preparing a tea bag but I really do use them all of the time in my art work, and if you let them steep, instant "rust"! More soon. Kelly
Great video! I love these tips as I've starting using tea bag paper in my art/junk journals, bookmarks and greeting cards for friends and family. So far have just glued over images to make them more vintage but shall begin stamping on them, rubbing on them with stamp pad ink and even printing with ink jet. Also will try letting them dry in a bit of tea for the great splotches of dark stains. I fear they might mold but worth experimenting. After all "they are only tea bags". Your ideas are so creative! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Diane, thanks for this feedback. Believe me, running these through the printer is worth the extra trouble. No one will know just how you've done it and it looks amazing. I do love found art supplies. 😎 Kelly
So many great ideas, Kelly, there's lots of inspiration here. I have a little bag of dried tea bags put by waiting to find a project that inspires...now I have several. I especially love the alphabet paper you used over the top, so I'm just dashing over to check the website. Thanks for sharing x
What a great video Kelly and now you have given me a good excuse to drink even more tea than I normally do (oh the sacrifices I make for art 😏) I tried printing on tracing paper with the masking tape method and it worked really well so I will definitely be ironing my old tea bags and giving them a go. I wonder if tissue paper would work to though it maybe a little fragile.
Thanks bunches, Miss Yvie. I know all about those sacrifices for the creative muse. (Just ask me about my wine cork collection.) Yes, tissue paper does print well but you have to tape it to the printer paper. I know, I found out the hard way because I didn't want to believe I needed that extra step. That was ONE epic paper jam. 🙄😮
This is spectacular! Thank you! When you do the printer technique, does it matter what KIND of printer? I have an old HP Photosmart and wonder if I can try this one?
Hi Leslie. Now I don't know that printer but here's my take - give it a try. What do you have to lose but some tea bags? Give them a good iron and tape them down, put them in the printer and see what happens. Even if it isn't "perfect" you may find yourself inventing something interesting all the same. Keep me posted!
Hello there, Lilian. Here is the link to Part 2. To be honest I haven't done Part 3 but it IS in the pipeline. I think January will be a good time to make it - we will all be drinking tea and wanting to create something. 🫖🫖Kelly ua-cam.com/video/x2Ejr7CMTZU/v-deo.html
Hi Nabby. Tea definitely has tannins which I believe are acidic. Not archival but on the other hand will last longer than I do. I have projects made with tea bags from 20 years ago that are just fine. So - okay for fun but maybe not for fine art. Kelly🌷🌼🌻
Great info! Thank you for making this video! The tea bags I have saved in the past never have much depth of color (I use black tea), but I'm going to try your pouring method to see if that helps. I love love love the color you got on that oblong tea bag that you glued into the book. It's such a rich brown. That's what I want to get on mine. Do you know what brand of tea that one was? I love the long shape of it. Looking forward to the rest of the series. 🥰
Hi Lori, That big, dark bag was one of the loose tea infusers that I mentioned elsewhere in the video. You can get them at some shops and definitely on Etsy or Ebay. They don't cost a lot and they last a long time and come in a bunch of sizes. But any black tea bag should go this kind of brown once you glue it down, it becomes similar to a dark linen colour. Hope this helps!
Why thank you, Kate. That does make me happy to hear. I drink loose darjeeling most of the time. If I am rushed for time I use PG Tips which is a surprisingly good cheap tea. And you?
@@BookandPaperArts Thanks, Kelly. You are the BEST!!! I'm in the U.S. so I love the tones of Stash brand Earl Grey tea for my boiled books and for tea bags to glue on w/ gel. And the Twinnings lemon pomegranate gives gorgeous, water-color-like landscapes.
Hi there. I rarely seal them and if I did I would - 1. hairspray, if it is just for me or 2. spray fixative if it is for sale or 3. maybe a coat of gel medium, depending on what it is going on. Hope this helps!
This video came along just in time! I've been saving tea bags and these are great ideas and clear instructions, thank you. I love your bracelet made from book pages, did you make it yourself?
Hello, Irene. Thank you so for your kind words. I was a teensy bit concerned that I was being overly earnest about tea bags and am glad to see that this was not the case. Yes, I really wanted a bracelet made from words and couldn't find one so made one myself out of old dictionary pages.
Quick Q, Kelly. It didn't look like you put any finish, such as Mod Podge or PVA glue, whatever, over the top of your art pieces. Isn't that a good idea, just to protect them, or just not necessary? I'm excited to see lessons 2 and 3 to follow this one! Thank you.
Hi Lynn. I rarely do and one of the reasons is that an acrylic based glue or gel will protect but it can also be quite sticky even after it has dried (I found out the hard way) and it has made pages stick together in projects where it was not welcome. How about you?
@@BookandPaperArts Hmmm, I just made some overlays with T Bags, several days ago, and had already covered them over with Mod Podge. I'll see if I get the stickys or not. Thanks for the info, Kelly!
🤯 you mentioned printing on tissue paper in another vid, and I was thinking to myself: "I wonder if she just sticks the tissue onto a printer page, and just puts in a regular home printer?" and I decided I would try that myself, regardless of how you do it. and now, you're telling us 🥴 what shall I do with all that inventiveness of mine?!! I'll have to listen to you and just go do something 🤭 and a question: why do you keep cutting the decorative paper elements, BEFORE gluing? it's not accurate and quite wasteful. I found it gives me a lot of maneuvering space and adds to the creative process to glue the base on the decorative paper and only then, cut off the excess paper. sometimes it "tells" me only after gluing, if it wants to be cut off, torn, or fussi-cut. what is your thought behind cutting first and gluing after?
Hey Gurl, this text really has nothing to do with art, but I was thinking about you today. I hear Wales is getting pounded with a tremendous heat wave! Breaking records and starting fires in close by areas of France and England! I also read where there are few and far between air conditioners in UK. Not sure about other areas. Please stay cool Kelly and soak your feet in ice water as your creating....If that's possible. Just wanting to send you good vibes!
Ha. I live on the coast and it is just fine. Some parts of the country are scary but to be honest, not a patch on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi where I grew up. Maybe the difference is we aren't used to it here and so, are unprepared. You okay? My friend in Kansas had 106 yesterday.

Thank you, Kellene. Thanks for touching base! Hope you are making gorgeous and fun pages.
😎 Kelly
Awesome inspiration!!!
Why thank you, Holly. That is lovely to hear! Kelly
So many great ideas, Kelly, there's lots of inspiration here. I have a little bag of dried tea bags put by waiting to find a project that inspires...now I have several. I especially love the alphabet paper you used over the top, so I'm just dashing over to check the website. Thanks for sharing x
Thanks, Sian. I am always shocked at how quickly my stash of tea bags builds up. Glad you liked the printable!
Excellent video. Love your ideas!
Really simple and useful! 🐱
Thank you!!!!!!!!! Kelly 🌻🌻
Thanks for a great video. Not sure why I couldn't save the video link to watch later? is that a setting you could enable?
Hi Ruth. It should save. Try opening UA-cam in another browser and see if that lets you save it there. Hope this helps! Kelly
Thank you!😊
What a great video Kelly and now you have given me a good excuse to drink even more tea than I normally do (oh the sacrifices I make for art 😏) I tried printing on tracing paper with the masking tape method and it worked really well so I will definitely be ironing my old tea bags and giving them a go.
@@BookandPaperArts Well, now I’m laughing over how this didn’t occur to me. Talk about a “duh” moment 😂. What do I have to lose INDEED! Thank you!
Could you do a tutorial on how to make that beautiful word braclet on your wrist?
I was just thinking the same thing. Love the bracelet
I believe it’s paper mache
love your video - where can I find nr 2 and 3 ? I have lots of dry teabags, but cant find the round ones in Denmark.
Hello there, Lilian. Here is the link to Part 2. To be honest I haven't done Part 3 but it IS in the pipeline. I think January will be a good time to make it - we will all be drinking tea and wanting to create something. 🫖🫖Kelly

I drink tea every day (the proper way, with milk ), so this sounds very interesting. I’m just wondering if the acid will end up degrading this paper?
Wow, Kelly. Out of the park as usual. You have such an eye for design. Is there any particular black tea you use? I just love this tone.
@@kategleason8474 Okay, lemon pomegranate sounds like a winner. 🌻🌻
Awesome
Hi! Do you seal them and if so what do you use?
Hi there. I rarely seal them and if I did I would - 1. hairspray, if it is just for me or 2. spray fixative if it is for sale or 3. maybe a coat of gel medium, depending on what it is going on. Hope this helps!
@@BookandPaperArts Thanks so much 😃
This video came along just in time!
@@lynnboyd33 Keep me posted, Lynn.
🤯 you mentioned printing on tissue paper in another vid, and I was thinking to myself: "I wonder if she just sticks the tissue onto a printer page, and just puts in a regular home printer?"
and I decided I would try that myself, regardless of how you do it. and now, you're telling us 🥴
what shall I do with all that inventiveness of mine?!! I'll have to listen to you and just go do something 🤭
and a question:
why do you keep cutting the decorative paper elements, BEFORE gluing? it's not accurate and quite wasteful.
Do not do that with the tissue paper and printer. Trust me. I found out the hard way! 😺
*bangle*
You sound like Jane Fonda.
Well, that is really nice to hear! I have also stolen her latest hairstyle (or the version that I can have without half a dozen stylists on hand).😉😎
