Well yes, it was never an 87 key Gavioli. Built as a 73 key Gavioli barrel organ, converted to the 87 key scale and significantly enlarged by Verbeeck London. Upon inspection a lot of the organ is Verbeeck. A fine instrument indeed.
@@Mattt-x9h As it was converted in the 1920s it still makes it a historic and now unique organ,it worked very hard whilst at Battersea fun fair and at Skegness
@@karlplastow9185 I never said it wasn't! I'm aware of it's history and to be honest it's one of my favourite instruments. Absolutely lovely to operate when it was on the gallopers.
Doesn’t sound too bad here could do some work the bandmaster in particular the mechanism bellows that make it move could do with a releather it doesn’t seem to be conducting properly it looks worn looking closely.
Yes it wasn't too bad but it could have benefitted with a spot of tuning maybe! The bandmaster didn't seem to be conducting properly - I think it might be a problem with the spring on the mechanism missing?
An unexpected but very pleasing sound!
3:02 Portsmouth Chimes March
Thanks. I saw the title on the book but couldn't find any trace of the march online, but have just tracked it down...
Sounds nothing like an 87 key gavioli should do but quite a pleasant Verbeek sound to it,makes a pretty nice galloper organ.
Yes, it's a strange sounding organ with a sound of its own. A bit rough around the edges maybe but it really makes for a good galloper organ.
