MATT, The BOMB in Teflon Plumbing Tape is Blue Monster! It is way thicker and stronger than the white thin junkie stuff sold in Home Depot or Lowes. But it on line and you will thank me for this hint. I found out from my neighbor who is a Pro-Plumber! It requires only 3 wraps instead of 7 or 8.
Bobby W I am a licensed water well contractor and part owner of Hayes and sims drilling company. Our guys use nothing but blue monster. You should give it a try Matt, you won't be disappointed.
I've been using MegaTape here recently on all my low and high pressure water connections as well as compressed air. It seems to work pretty well. 4 turns required according to the container.
Hvac technician here and only use the monster tape. Yes, the thickness is noticeable to the touch and never lets me down. Forget the home depot tape. Get the monster if you wanna be obsessed.
I told him 7 was waaaay to much and he told me off and how I was wrong. I'm in class right know for pipe fitting and we are laughing at the thought of 7 wraps
. Scout I appreciate videos like this and most obsessed garage video because of that attention to detail. It is something that at times truly take patience.
Obsessed Garage Land. Just love that term. Mediocrity doesn't fly with us. Great video. I know Eley folks are watching. You deserve to be a dealer Matt, period!
Considering the fact that I already purchased a couple of these reels, nozzles and quick connect kits from Eley a few months ago and installed them immediately, I'm not sure why I watched this whole video, but that tends to happen when I click on something from the Obsessed Garage channel. Keep up the good work! On another note, the Eley products certainly aren't inexpensive, but the quality is amazing! I use them several times a week, and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality hose accessories.
No, I thought about buying a couple their poly ones, but I had just recently purchased two new hoses so I stuck with them. I don't think I've seen you use the Eley stuff at the new house with the dedicated wash bay (which is awesome, by the way). Are you still using the reel and hose for general duties at the new house, and if so did the poly hose become easier to work with over time?
Teflon tape is only for NPT threads which are the actual sealing mechanism due to their taper. (National Pipe Taper). GHT (Garden Hose Threads) are straight and the seal is created with the “O”- rings the Eley uses, or the flat ones you buy everywhere else. One seals at the tip of the male threads when it bottoms out in the female half of the coupling (GHT), the other seals as the male threads wedge themselves into the female threads (NPT)
any idea whether this setup would be good for colder/winter areas that get a decent amount of snow? I typically bring my hoses in during the winter but was curious if the quality allowed for leaving it out year round.
You mentioned the poly being difficult to work with, does that mean your preferred hose would be the rubber? I'm planning on ordering it soon, and was just going to go poly because I assumed it was better than the rubber...only because it costs more
I have Griots Garage rubber hose and its premium! Love using it as it just feels like money :) I also have there fire hose nozzle on it which is equally premium. Well worth the investment. Wish Adams still carried there rubber hose but they don't...
They are very similar. I've found the springs to be a bit more durable. And the knurling in the metal is a little finer that feels a little better on your hands.
That's not really a good point of view to have. Codes are in place for the health, safety and welfare (HSW) of the general public. Now of course something tiny like this isn't a huge deal, and I would probably be taking it off as well. But many building codes come about (life safety specifically) because people died in building fires or other tragedies. I just hope Adam kept the thing and knows to put it back on if he should ever sell the house. I have one on my backyard hose bibb and it's a piece of crap, leaks everywhere, and it seems to be jammed onto the bibb somehow. I've tried to remove it but it just won't come off. I need to get the whole hose bibb replaced.
I'm not sure if this has been answered before. What brand and size teflon tape do you use? I just ordered an eley nozzle and want to make sure to dial it in.
Adam LZ is probably like 30 years younger than me, but I watch his videos all the time because meticulous mechanic and a skilled driver. I don't know who this clown is, but it pisses me off to see him being a condescending know-it-all to ALZ.
"We don't mess around at Obsessed Garage son"
this should be on a shirt
matt is on a bloody roll with uploads, god damm.
What does Damning God have to do with this video?
MATT,

It's like father and son! The father is teaching the son attention to detail like number of times you wrap tape but son is okay with just two lol.
And on another note I just watched a video on a hose reel and was completely entertained...AMAZING!

Do you have the Poly Eley hoses on them? I found it difficult to work with.

Super nice! Aluminum construction, SS hardware, brass fittings = 100% rust-proof! ✨

you guys need your own tv show
Taking notes for when I build my own garage out here in Altamonte Springs lol
You are a, good Teacher Matt. Love you videos. Teaching New things. Takes time, So be Patient :D
Where I live plumbing standard is 4
*Mr. Miyagi and Daniel lol* Wax on, wax off
Absolutely love your videos gives me so much information
any idea whether this setup would be good for colder/winter areas that get a decent amount of snow? I typically bring my hoses in during the winter but was curious if the quality allowed for leaving it out year round.
I would probably bring it in, but it is powdercoated and super durable.
You mentioned the poly being difficult to work with, does that mean your preferred hose would be the rubber? I'm planning on ordering it soon, and was just going to go poly because I assumed it was better than the rubber...only because it costs more
I have a Goodyear Swivtech hose, but they are impossible to find. I'm going to work on sourcing them for my store.
I have Griots Garage rubber hose and its premium! Love using it as it just feels like money :) I also have there fire hose nozzle on it which is equally premium. Well worth the investment.
Wish Adams still carried there rubber hose but they don't...
Why not get a steel armed hose?
And why does he not have a pressure washer? They dont allow it there?
How are these GreenThumb quick disconnects compared to the MTM? They look identical.
They are very similar. I've found the springs to be a bit more durable. And the knurling in the metal is a little finer that feels a little better on your hands.
Sorry, are you referring to the MTM?
I see you and Adam like father and son! xD
Matt is the same age as me, and I for damn sure ain't old enough to have a 20-something son! lolol
Hey man, off topic. But how long does it usually take to ship all your orders out?
Usually same day if I have it in stock.
Do you recommend the Eley poly or rubber hose?
I don't like either one of them. I should have a new hose in my store soon. It's a custom made Continental Rubber hose.
+Adam lz really believes that obsessed garage Matt is his real dad
Surprised no one has mentioned removing the backflow preventer. Isn't that a code violation?
Codes are meant to be broken.
That's not really a good point of view to have. Codes are in place for the health, safety and welfare (HSW) of the general public. Now of course something tiny like this isn't a huge deal, and I would probably be taking it off as well. Matt, why did you let Adam go with the Eley hose instead of your own?
We didn't have that hose yet when I made this video.
@@ObsessedGarage thanks
Cool!
I'm not sure if this has been answered before.
What brand and size teflon tape do you use?
I just ordered an eley nozzle and want to make sure to dial it in.
I'm just using the stuff from Home Depot.
Will you be selling this setup in the future? If so, sign me up!
I'm working on it.
What brand hose?
Eley
lmao!!! you're getting me all wet! haha classic
Come on it's a hose reel is it really that good looking?!?
Adam just like why the hose reel Matt why obese about that
Adam LZ is probably like 30 years younger than me, but I watch his videos all the time because meticulous mechanic and a skilled driver. I don't know who this clown is, but it pisses me off to see him being a condescending know-it-all to ALZ.
You would know who I was if you watched all of his videos.
Never tape GHT 🤦🏼♂️
7 rolls of Teflon?? What?? Teflon is only a lubrication to help the threads mesh better. 7 is way to much.
I disagree.
What's your theory behind that? As a trade millwright, I don't need to use hardly 3 wraps
LOL at 15:40!
