  • Suspension forks are often the most expensive part of your bike, so if you want to switch from a trail bike to an enduro bike, how great would it be if you only had to buy the frameset? Instead of a costly new build or even a complete bike. Rich Payne uses one fork on his trail bike, hardtail, enduro bike and eBike to see if it's possible.

I have one and I´d say it´s not quite as stiff when it comes to hits from the front as a rs zeb but only marginally and side to side I´d say it´s about the same. What´s amazing about that fork is the IRT so you can easily adjust the ramp up which is absolutely amazing. I can´t say anything about the damper because I run the cheaper expert with the IRT upgrade but even with the cheaper damper it´s an amazing fork which anyone can easily service without specialty oils and stuff

Bern running mine almost 2 years now - it's phenomenal, I came from a coil loaded 36 and this performs way better. IRT ramp control really helps fine tune the way it moves through the travel, and sensitivity is unreal.

Couple things I lovr about my Mezzers (2 of them) aside from the easy travel change is the chamfered thread bottom caps on the stanchions that make putting the lowers back on totally faff free. Ni catching on the seals and seal springs.
And the dual positive air chambers (which should be standard on every mid to high end fork makes changing the spring rate suoer easy for different riding styles (ie bike park vs tech). No need to open the fork and pop in plastic bits.

I think only mentioning the travel adjust on this fork is under selling it. To me this fork is a winner because one can adjust every aspect of it, at home with all the resources you need at MTBR/mezzer owners thread.
When It comes to how good a fork is for any specific rider, Its all about it being set up and tuned correctly, even fork reviews usually relies on how good forks are out the box. But face it, pro's spend a season setting a bike up. A fork might take months, but a 1000$ fork which may never be perfectly adjustable to your weight and riding style should put you off. However, once Its set up, Its nice to be able to swap it over to your next bike knowing, it does not get much better, and features like the dorado air are still market leading.
I do admit the fork is tuned for someone in the 90-100kg range if I must guess, and will need a tuning straight away if youre not. But its all quite simple to do and tools are in fact available as many cassette tools actually work, not just the Manitou tool. You also have to get a proper shock pump to keep the negative air from leaking out while the pump is removed. This will leave the fork with no small bump performance.
I have had my Mezzer Pro for about 18 months now, and I have been able to tune it to perfection. Although Its taken a while, but this truly is the perfect fork for serious riders or puzzlers as you can get it to Pro level tune, yourself.

At Hayes Bicycle Group ( Hayes, Manitou, ProTaper MTB, Reynolds, SUNringle) we know the challenges that UK consumers and retailers are experiencing having easy access to our components. We know this is crucial in the purchasing and after care support component decision. We're working daily to identify the best possible solution to support the UK from a local source. Until then, Hayes can support retailers with sales, service and support from our Munich based, European HQ. This feature is not just on the Mezzer it is on all of their forks.. So you can go from basically 80-120, 140-180 and so on up the line in their forks.. I have 3 of their R7 Pro Forks. And, I find they are way better than Fox and RockShock for the price and the quality. And they are literally made right here in my backyard in WI. And, lastly they are all so the home mechanic can service them easily.

I wanted a Mezzer when it first came out but reports of bushing issues and problems with bottom out bumpers combined with less than stellar customer service from Hotlines, I went with a Lyrik.
Also, there were no seal kits available at the time which was another thing that out me off. Given that CRC/Wiggle are about to go pop, maybe it means that Hayes/Manitou might get some proper distribution in the UK.

I bought a Mezzer Expert for $510 on sale directly from Hayes Bicycles. I have a $900 Rockshox Pike Ultimate with a 2.1 charger damper. In my opinion the Mezzer Expert is a better fork. Small bump sensitivity is about the same with the Pike but mid stroke support is much better on the Mezzer. The Mezzer has 37mm stanchions compared to 35mm on the Pike. So the increased lateral stiffness just makes it feel more precise going through technical terrain. The Mezzer is also super quiet. The Pike has a squishy sound when it hits big roots and medium sized rocks at lower speeds. Also I don't know exactly how and why but the Mezzer feels supportive and plush at the same time. The Pike is great but sometimes at the end of some rides my hands feel some numbness. The Pike feels a little harsh going through extended rock gardens and drops. I've adjusted the high speed compression and run it fully open sometimes, removed air volume reducer tokens and it still feels a little harsh. So far I haven't felt any noticeable harshness on any rides with the Mezzer.

Manitou make awesome products, as other owners have said below, all their forks have adjustable travel, not just the Mezzer, In fact their brand new Mattoc truely is the master of all!!! and all their forks even the base model ones have better damping than your most Rockshox and fox forks

Except for the added expense, the Ohlins forks would be even more preferable if travel change simplicity is the goal. If I understand correctly, the air springs in those are hot-swappable without even having to remove the fork lower, though you do have to purchase individual air springs for each nominal travel length. I’m considering one for my next build for this exact reason. More time riding and less time wrenching on a versatile frame and fork that can alternate between park and trail days…

I personally couldn't be arsed to open the fork up to do it ,its clearly going to be messyer than shown the lowers had no oil coming out of them atall . i had u turn forks back in the day tho if that concept of external adjustability was to return however that would be a game changer. Allso Manatou forks look shit they should sack off that rear arch thing .
