How I Made a Game in 48 Hours (While I Was Out of Town)

- Опубліковано 17 лип 2020
- Here was my submission and development progress of my game "Out of Space" for the GMTK Game jam 2020. It's a very short action-based arcade game. The jam was 48 hours but I only had about 12 hours of actual working time to get the game done.
UPDATE: Mac and WebGL is now avaliable!

This was somewhat of a filer video. I'm currently working on a secret project and some other videos I plan to release sometime later. I'll let everyone know when the game is updated and supported for the other platforms.
Lit can't wait
yes
Dude the new type of videos u do are really great and I’m proud of you
What language do u use ?
@@Zach_is_aria I'm pretty sure unity uses c#. So I'm guessing that's what he uses.
Everybody: **talks about the game and stuffs**
Me: _I wonder when he will run out of money to buy those markers_
The same time when he runs out of money to buy those markers.
Can’t wait for multiplayer in the sequel!
You had me at space.I love space games.I hope to try It later tonight.Keep up the great work! :)
This vids are pog don’t stop making them pls
Your videos are so polished, really nice editing work

This is what quarantine does to poeple
This is so cool! I always wanted to be a game designer and you are one of the reasons why!
Great work on the game and the documentary Joe 👍
Although I liked your animations, I’m glad you’re doing something that makes you happy.
Wow that's sick! U deserve more much subscribers , ur videos are awesome!
I’m also a dev (I usually don’t enjoy game dev that much if it’s not a game jam) and I love that you went from kabloosh to this
That is amazing! Great job on the game :)
Cool Video!
Nice video I really enjoyed this :)
Woah!! Super cool!!
4:07 .....ahhh good memories
I like ur NEW channel :)
Wow. Nice job
This is like procrastinating to the max.
You got it done ✅
Gonna be honest that a cute drawning
Now stuff like this is way better than what ended up seeing from your latest video about yanderedev, like, I don't like the guy that much, nor do I care, just I think it's a teaching moment about what really goes under the hood of the unity engine and how game engines work.
Just, pure, unadulterated, just creating stuff.
About game jams, honestly, you did a lot a good stuff. I see some of the Vlambeer "screen shake = fun" in there, lol (not saying it does, but hey, you were adding some nuance)
Especially if it's a second game for you, this is the sort of time -> where I'd focus less on making a FULL game, but having a fun prototype and experiment. It's game jam.
Lol... It's the sorta thing where you have to have fun with just trying new stuff
Games like Journey by ThatGameCompany were first started over a bunch of random and experimental 2d game jam projects
Plus, if you use game jam, less about making a final submission, more as thinking, "what do I want to ~try~ making", more on focusing on making the journey fun, less focused on the end product, you might be surprised how much more you can gain under your tool belt to use for more polished, bigger games that, you shouldn't be trying to force to do in the span of 3 days...
Honestly watching videos like this make me a little jealous
Lol, I miss having the time to doing game jams or working on personal projects :/ I went from making art games and random little game jam games in college, to then going to work not as a game developer where, I'd still do the Global Game Jam's every February/January, but never would I ever get the time to really sit down, plan out a project, and just, be creative about it.
Like, seeing stuff like this from people much younger than me, you give me a little fire under my belly that yeah, I can do stuff, too.
Keep up with the more down-to-earth, human content like this. In a way, this'll make you a better developer, having the courage to show off what you did, but also where you're being honest about what you could do better while having it on a platform where a jackass like me can come in and go, "NO MAN, YOU GOT IT ALL WRONG, YOU SHOULD DO IT LIKE THIS"
(lol, my criticisms are just what work for me with game jam, it's game jam, there is nothing right or wrong about what you do during game jam. If you want to go on a joyride to pizza hut in the back of your friend's Jeep during Game Jam or heh, go to Medieval Times, or eat bad pizza, DO IT. Lol. Or hell, want to break an elevator with a chair? Get a greenscreen and make a stupid AF fighting game with your friends' mocapping the actions as you figure out collision detection in GameMaker? Fuck yeah.
Like, I've done some silly shit at game jams, from just recently at the last global game jam, while locked in a school building, slept on a bunch of filing cabinets, trying to hide from building security. Took the time to also go on a ghost hunt in the building with a friend
My game had a bit of a demo at the end, but nowhere as clean a demo as your game had.)
Being a game developer is the same as being any sort of arteur. You gotta be able to live your life while being able to take the things you like, or things you want to talk about and then, put that into code. Making fun mechanical games, they're like, "what do I find fun?" Or, "when I hear the theme, what does that make me think of?"
I'm seriously going on a tangent about game jam, but yeah, again, good job, tl;Dr the sheer fact you made a game with a lose condition in 12 hours, with the level of mechanics you have, with enemies and a way to deal with them, with some fun looking physics, that's impressive enough. Most people who do game jam don't end up having a working demo, just something they can look to maybe continue working on if they find the idea fun or not, for example.
You could parent the backround to the player. I think that would work
i cant even play the game i need to download it and my pc cant download games insert sad music here
same :
at least u got it done before the deadline (:
Very nice! You should try to be a GameDev.
THE GAME WAS VERY COOL!
Dope

Were you playing WebGL or PC? I'm not sure if it's because you have a different resolution on your pc, but I'll look into that.
@@josephrcarroll7336 I was playing online on my pc didn't downloaded the game.

It might be a chromebook and i don't think you can download unity with chromebooks atleast with mine. I saw in his video about "Barely Alive" that he used a chromebook to play his game online.
I’ve actually want to make a game but I have no knowledge of making one….
