Thank you for saying the size of torx screw. You're the first video on UA-cam that has mentioned it. I have been trying to find out what size it is so I can purchase the right driver set.
Thanks very much- the formatting section was particularly useful. So much so, you’ve convinced me to try these upgrades myself, rather than pay someone to do it.
I followed the steps exactly to add an additional Samsung 970 EVO PLUS. My computer boots up exactly the same as yours. However, in disk management it does not see the new SSD. Clicked refresh and scan drives and it still cannot see the drive. Any thoughts?
Great video! Two questions: 1. Been hearing different opinions on adding the additional SSD to the second slot and the laptop getting hotter. I just ordered a 256 XPS and purchased a 1GB SSD but my plan was to replace the 256 in slot 1 as opposed to adding the 1TB as you did? Any thoughts? 2. Just to confirm, you are saying upgrading RAM at 2666 should be fine (so I don’t have to stress about finding 2933)?
I just got the XPS 15 9500 with 16gb memory, 512gb SSD, i7 6 core, 4k touch panel. Would upgrading my memory to 32 like you or 64gb make a big improvement? Also is it worth putting in another hard drive?
I think going to 32gb only makes sense for video and photo editing in most cases. If you aren’t sure whether or not you need 64gb then you probably don’t need 64gb. As for the storage, it’s really easy to add an m.2 ssd, so if you plan to have a lot of large files like games stored on your XPS then I would definitely add a 1 or 2tb ssd.
@@mr.rogersreviews4224 would any of those things or doing both make the laptop noticeably faster? Doing both is probably overkill for me but I like speed and flexibility
For general use, neither upgrade is really going to make your computer feel noticeably faster. I would say if you have to choose one upgrade, I’d add more storage.
Thank you for this video! I have an XPS 15 coming with the 256 ssd and 8GB on RAM, however I have also ordered 32GB RAM and a 500GB ssd to upgrade on day one! I am admittedly a novice and this video gave me the confidence I needed! Question, the RAM I ordered is DDR4 - 2666. Will this be greatly slower than what you installed? Sorry for probably a dumb question lol, but thanks again!
David McDowell hey I’m glad you found the video helpful! No, the ram speed should be fine! In fact, I’ve only been able to get mine to run at 2666 anyway.
@@mr.rogersreviews4224 excellent thank you! I know it's not a gaming machine, but with the better graphics card I want to be able to game a bit lol. Can't wait till it gets here!!!
Hi. Just wanted to ask you do you know how think heatsink can I use? from what I saw it seams like 2mm think sink there, but do you think there is space for more?
I see that after sliding the laptop around on the table for a while when removing the screws you realised that you were scratching the lid and so as if by magic the Razer banner appears.
This is because the XPS ram runs at 1.2V (DDR4L-2933) Crucial Ballistics looks good on paper with tight timings CL16 and 3200mhz but that’s at 1.35V. At 1.2V you get downclocked to 2600 and probably some horrible timings like CL20. See if OP can run CPU-Z and show us the timings. Basically the ram upgrade is hurting the performance. Dell bios, yay!
@MARCUSAURELIUS Anything rated at DDR4L-2933 / PC4-23400 , that is 2933MHz at 1.2v. I recommended to a client that wanted to use Amazon this one MD4S1632180IZ0DC that has a CL18. But I would recommend getting a better name brand that has lifetime warranty from newegg.
The Crucial memory selector is bogus. It recommends voltages and speed options that aren't compatible with your system. For example, the correct RAM voltage should be 1.2, not the 1.35 that you installed. You would be better off with 2 sticks of Kingston part number KCP429SS8/16. In the end, you might have actually downgraded your memory.
Dell always ships desktops and laptops with lower voltage ram. As long as you don’t mix them with higher voltage it’s totally fine. I needed the 32gb more than I needed a few extra hundred MHz.

Thanks man! Just installed the 1TB SSD and it worked great. Couldn’t see how you disconnected the battery, but I was super careful.
awesome video and thanks for going through the SSD formatting steps as well!
Very informative. Thank you. Can i ask if you use DELL PREMIER COLOR for sRGB color space (for more accurate and less saturated colors)? Thank you
Hello I bought 64 gb 32x2 3200 crucial but my dell stayed in logo and does not proceed.

What screw do I need to buy??
How much better was the performance with the new parts?
Where can you get the screw to hold the HD in place? What's the spec/name of the screw?
Do you have to take the battery loose for just the ram upgrade?
Do you recommend doing a disk partition with the 2nd SSD that we install?
Could this computer take an M.2 SSD of more than 2 TB (the largest size Dell would offer)?

Too bad, I have my finger cut this morning exactly like you. It is a few hours late before I can have watched this video clip😔
Can you drop down the link for the SSD and ram upgrades?
Thanks for the video including setup for the SSD

How do you transfer the contents from an old SSD to a new one you want to install?
Hi. Just wanted to ask you do you know how think heatsink can I use? from what I saw it seams like 2mm think sink there, but do you think there is space for more?
What about more amount of RAM? Does it can handle 64GB or even more?

I’m a little new to this stuff..how do you transfer the contents of an old SSD to a new one that you want to install?
Hey guys, what screw can be used in the spare SSD port?
I have the same question
Does the newest xps15 9500 support the addlink s70ssd?
How are the thermals on this laptop under pressure and max load?
Which ram do you recommend for 16GB of ram? I'm not too sure which ones are compatible with XPS 15 9500. Thank you so much
Daniel Jeong anything that’s rated 3000MHz should be fine
So did you figure out if you could make the RAM run at 3,200 MHz or at least the same 2,933 MHz as the factory RAM?
emarinelli I still only have it running at 2666 unfortunately

I have the same model...did you get the 2933Mhz ram?
Do you know how to clone the sad? I want to put a faster ssd as a primary

Hi, thanks for this info, can I use Crucial 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 SODIMM (CT2K16G4SFD832A) instead? From the specs, it is 1.2V but CL is 22.
I think if you want people to subscribe, maybe answer the basic questions such as the ones about the screw.
Does it void warranty to open it up and add ram?
that question is so stupid, but anyways, YES
I don't think so
@@Jaksoncpp asked and according to dell it doesn't. I saved the conversation. But thanks.

can i install 2tb m2 in it ?
Funny, a guy on another video also had the same finger cut. Possible class action Dell lawsuit. Any lawyers out there?😀
