You know when you stumble across something unexpected and you you don't think you'll like it, but then you end becoming slightly obsessed it? Well this song became one of my new obsessions.
You know, every time I hear a phenomenal artist like this who isn't part of the mainstream, I feel like everything in the world is upside down, That millions of views and public recognition are reaped by people whose musical expression is power-oriented and heartless, and then comes this a hard-working amazing woman who surpasses these mainstream stars in talent a hundredfold and no one really knows her. It is incomprehensible.
Every few years I come back to this album. I discovered it as new videos were released each month, during an exciting time in my life - being in love, going to graduate school, getting my first job. The sounds and visuals evoke those images, even to this day. Jonna is a one of a kind artist!
It's a thin thin line and I walk both sides of it See the other side, appear so tempting, worth dying for it And your dreams, waking out of one Absorbing your every thought Worth risking it all for working its wonders and now for you Under the ocean, outcast with nowhere to go (nowhere to go, nowhere to go) A brighter forecast where new winds will blow (we let it go, we let it go) A storm is drawing near, come meet me when it's cleared Waste my youth chasing kites, I know it'll blow out of my hand Put your heads in the sand, there is nothing there to seek No discovery of mine will be safe in these seas You feel a bitter taste on your tongue Swallow your every wrong Let yourselves be in your arms In it are worries now for you Under the ocean, outcast with nowhere to go (nowhere to go, nowhere to go) A brighter forecast where new winds will blow (we let it go, we let it go) A storm is drawing near, come meet me when it's cleared Waste my youth chasing kites, I know it'll blow out of my hand Overlooking our past, letting it go A brighter forecast, new winds will blow A storm is drawing near, come meet me when it's cleared Waste my youth chasing kites, I know we'll blow
That cliff she's standing on, it's obviously reference to the cliff she stands on in the wide shot in 't' but does anybody else think it's the same exact one? That'd be incredible if they slipped that one right under us. I think what is so incredible about this era is that even with the happiest of songs, everything still feels a little unsettling. Like real life, there is sadness that follows happiness, or happiness that follows sadness. Even the most upbeat of their songs have dark and unsettling lyrics or just one change in instrument can make the whole song feel different [talking directly about the last minute of blue blue]. I just get such a sense of closure/resurgence from taking this in visually and sonically. This song feels like growing up and letting go, but celebrating so much of what you've done. That's why from Jonna's perspective, and as the perspective of the project to her to the fans to the universe, this was such a perfect portrayal of having everything meet up seamlessly from kin bounty and BLUE. I feel really bad for the people who just can't appreciate this era. Great job iam team, incredible song and video. Please don't let BLUE be your last project!
Fantano !! Why is there 0 promotion on your fb/web pages for any of the latest iamamiwhoami singles/Videos releases? It seems like you're loving blue so far, so why dont promote the project a little?
One of the best pop songs I’ve ever heard. There’s something about this song that speaks to my soul. It is so complex and layered, highly emotional yet it has a cinematic/hopeful sound to it. I’ve never heard anything like this.
At this point I feel like the project is literally about her creative process and response to her fans. The water theme is simply a palette in describing her emotions throughout the experience. She's trying to take her fans on a journey, and she knows she's simultaneously being supported/critiqued by them and trying not to lose herself. She's evolving with each new song, and being powered by those who 'generate'. She places her songs in the bottles and delivers them to her fans (the shadows) who try to make sense of it.
I am a girl who always liked to listen to rock and heavy metal more than any genre ... well ... until the day that I met this woman ... and I really have to say ... she is a queen! I see many people calling several singers "divas" .... but seriously .... iamamiwhoami is the definition of being a diva! the musical style, the voice, the lyrics, which she passes to those who are watching, is something incredibly fantastic ... she has something within themselves, and within your clips and songs that NO other singer has! I think absolutely GORGEOUS the clips, are completely different from anything we've seen in the music ... I always loved this style of "dark \ and unlike anything" ... I'm happy to have met this woman! it is simply a myth! and if you call THAT weird, sorry, I call it ART!
I think there's less surrealism in the videos released from blue compared to kin or bounty, but that doesn't make these videos uncreative. The cinemotography and costume design in these videos is absolutely gorgeous. There's not one shot in these videos that doesn't have a photographic quality to it.
I am transported to another place hearing her music. This comes in a close second with my favorite single from BLUE so far (the first being "Hunting For Pearls").
I adore this. The visuals have hints of Kin, Bounty and even her older stuff as Jonna Lee. I really think this album marks a unifying of all the parts of her. Past and present and future. And oh my god! All those lyrics in the walls of the lighthouse!
the letters typed are reminiscent of I Wrote This Song. As she gazes out of the lighthouse its similar to how she looking gazing out of a hotel window in Lake Chermain,
This time I had to shed a tear or two while listening and watching this video. The melody and vocals lines are amazing. The video is brilliant with awesome references to the other ones from BLUE and also to the the previous eras of iamamiwhoami, but it also gives me a weird sensation of closure that I'm not sure if I like it... it gives me a heartache, like if a part of me is saying goodbye to myself. I am actually almost crying as I type this and listen to this song for the third time. Music is one of the few things really important to me in this life and songs like this explain why.
I feel the same way. I mean, one it's because this Blue era is ending, but also because this storyline is saying something very important about running away from the past or letting go the past. It's like you said, saying goodbye to yourself, for me it was like saying goodbye to myself, the one that I used to know, but saying goodbye to that dark part of me who didn't let me grow until now. I don't know if I explained well
This is one of the best songs and videos from Blue, because it gives us a little taste of what made us fell in love with the project in the first place, and the new stuff. Also, Happy birthday Jonna, thank you for giving it music a whole NEW MEANING. Andy.
@@AndyZaturno I mean on every Ionnalee video I see you comment like 15+ times and you call her goddess things like that sometimes and act as if she’s Jesus and something to praise about but she made that song Samaritan obviously because of people calling her “my goddess” or “my pretty nypmh lulz”
at first listen this chorus is really simple, but the syncopation differences between each line are really genius from a pop production standpoint. verses are all the same rhythmic pattern and the chorus changes it up line by line - GENIUS. don't even get me started on the vocal production on this track. A+++ I need this vocal chain in my life
This played on my shuffle just before watching the last Faking It episode and I yelped when this came on - so serendipitous. I love how methodical the beat is - feels like wandering.
I squealed multiple teams when the flashbacks to previous MV's started. The lyrics in the lighthouse too. This might be my favourite MV off of BLUE (after HFP).
There's something so magical about iamamiwhoami. I really appreciate the time they've taken into delivering not only stunning imagery in each of their videos, but the beautiful music they took time to create as well. When days become too hectic or stressful for me, I take time to watch a few of their videos and they put me at ease. Thank you to this group and the team that helped create such a beautiful experience for me.
This song brings about a flurry of emotions both in my heart and mind. I'm not sure if it's the 80's synthesized melody, the heart wrenching lyrics depicting the very situation I find myself in time and time again, or the stunning visuals. I can't get enough of iamamiwhoami.
Not bad. Have your ever thing of which material or kind of cameras they use to make their shots? I mean look at when she is in the lighthouse, she is at a very tall place and the camera it's in front of her. It's awesome, they have a great equipment, they are a great team, they do what they like, what they can, we shouldn't be so rude at them. If you don't like their work, you have a list beside of other videos that you may like. Iamamiwhoami you have a great work!
This is a genius synthesis of the Prelude/Bounty/Kin/Blue eras of iamamiwhoami. Every frame is loaded and referential, nothing accidental nor wasted. The mimicking GVs from T and Good Worker, the plastic outfit and Elizabethan collar directly referencing costume from B and O, the papered walls of N and Y, not to mention the direct inclusion of clips from previous Blue era (to name just a few examples). It feels both final and like a debut. It's the closest iamamiwhoami has ever come to actively courting the mainstream (whatever that is, these days) and I believe this video is acting as both a highlight reel of the past and a taste of what is most unique and special about iamamiwhoami. Spellbinding, incredible and breathtaking. Thank you so much for this experience.
Oh Jonna how do you keep turning out perfect songs/videos one after the other? You are such an inspiration. You stepped out of a comfort zone to do something that could have cost you so much. You've given us an escape from our lives for the the past 5 years. We appreciate it more than you'll ever know.
The whole thing is almost perfect in every way. Her voice catches you, and doesn't let go until the very last note. Hands down one of the best songs of 2014.
Oh my gosh it's like within seconds I knew I was going to like this song. There honestly isn't an iamamiwhoami song that I don't like. Honestly my favorite group right now
same 4 me, been hooked since the intro, this audiovisual is very very strong,...if the mainstream media ever wake up? this is a bright new star in the making 2021 +
Who was that person whom wrote about iamamiwhoami never more put blue ink on her face and burn someone in a box? PLEASE!!! This is perfection! She's NEVER desappoint and always will have real something to say! Chasing Kites is a kind of scream and we are hearing you! But most of all, she's watching us! Thank you!
All of the Iamamiwhoami project is so confounding, such an abstract interpretation to objects or places typically gone un-noticed, it's so welcoming of interpretation and contradiction, there is nothing like it; this song must be my favourite from the album due to it's resemblance to a genuine song, other than the collaboration of sounds and electro-pop applied in all of her other songs, the meaning is deeper in those, perhaps. The highlight of the song for me is certainly 2:28.
Blue is Extraordinary! Really enjoying all the new videos. Adored Bounty. Adored Kin. This is different and visually stunning. Love the naturalistic approach with all the beautiful locations and the electronic beats are beyond catchy. I love to lie in bed with the lights off to Vista filling my room with its almost haunting melody. Tap your glass is certainly different but in a good way. It shows how versatile you can be and demonstrates how far you've become since the beginning. Still EPIC. Still a MYSTERY. I love you Iamamiwhoami and I look forward to following you into the future. Your embedded into my mind and I cannot resist your charm. THANK YOU! ❤️❤️❤️
Every time I get lost and I find myself again, I listen to this song and watch this video. It means a lot to me, thankyou so much for creating it so perfectly.
By tomorrow we should be seeing the last of the blue videos...sad that another era is coming to an end but this has been possibly the longest journey. Almost a full year! Enjoyed the hell out of it
definately. the strongest ive heard so far, audiovisual experience like no other, blue and fountain are very visual and epic productions too, but this is the one i share to spread the word.
Structurally one of the biggest building blocks of this project is seemingly overlooked. Jonna's voice. Her emotive lyrics weave us into a narrative who's abstract nature can at times be too closely looked at. You can analyze word for word and piece together the story but then that in itself isn't the story. It's an evocative state I find myself in. I'm taken to a place by all elements. The audio and the visual. I question whether this is the real story. Not the one written down in the lyrics themselves but the place those sung lyrics take me in the context of the music and the cinematography. That notion in itself is abstract but then... is that the whole point of the project?
I tried as well to put a story together through the lyrics but I think it makes more sense when I think about the creative process in the phrases separately. It feels like important thoughts about lots of emotional moments scattered around the lyrics, like a big mountain of feelings - not necessarily about one single moment but several. Chasing kites feels like reading a very personal diary. The best thing is that we all can feel different ways towards each limb of this whole iamamiwhoami project because it's open to interpretation. ❤️
Love this one! I haven't watched all the blue videos yet, but the past two remind me of putting your creative process on display for the world. I can't speak for all, but for me, art happens from a lonely, secluded lighthouse in the mind. Then, finally you send out your deepest, darkest truth into a world of people whose faces you'll never see and identities you'll never know. Your most honest words are on naked display for them - and often they just discard (burn) them or even just judge the bottle it came in instead - collecting a whole abstract catalog in their minds of who or what they think you are. I'd almost rather not have that telescope to see what people are doing with my work sometimes. Or hearing their hurtful words. Maybe I'm totally off on the way I read the vid. But that's just my interpretation and thought I'd share. :) Adore your work, beautiful lady! Been a fan for a year now. You make songs and videos that are a multi-dimensional sensual experience and the ignition for inspiration in fellow artists and fans. That's what "youareareyouwhoareyou".
MissAshleyPants, this is one of the best comments I've ever read on youtube. It's spot on. I think this album is about being judged as an artist and also just being an artist, and all what comes out from it - let it be hate, love, dissapointment or sorrow. It's all about creativity, and the ups and downs. And the song is almost as good as ;john.. they're good at uplifting songs
VincentDaFox Thank you! And you're so right. Art is a painful, beautiful process. You never know what you'll educe from yourself till you sit back and let go! Can be pretty scary - but worth it for those "pearls" when they do come.
This is a beautiful song and these lyrics are so poetic and have a very deep meaning. Miss Jonna..your voice is epic. I love the unfolding of this project. It's simplistic nature (unlike their last project) takes charge and still one is captivated by Jonna shear aura that shine from her and draws you near. Her voice is not simplistic whatsoever and that is what carries these videos. And those lyrics are unfolding a very complex and different chapter in iamamiwhoami. I have a feeling that some of the old style we remember is creeping back in.
"It's a thin thin line and i walked both sides of it" This song totally sounds like writing abt her both Pop side as Jonna Lee vs the alternative part of her as iamamiwhoami. The song was a bit "common" at first but thru this video I see the connection on everything. It's arepresentative of both as Jonna and iam. Like her interview where she said her songs r totally abt relationship - but with US. Because with us that's how she gets to be iamamiwhoami. N saying goodbye of her old self n creating something for herself and all of us.
i agree with tnargtnarud the magic of this album will definitely take take the hectic days of life we live. turn on this album, as well as the one before, kin, and let it all wash away into the salty sea and sand. thank you iamamiwhoami I am very looking forward to this album. your songs are an eclectic flow with this project! We Love You iamamiwhoami
I think this one is about all the places they have ever been and the discovering of new places. :) "Over the ocean, outcast with nowhere to go (nowhere to go, nowhere to go) A brighter forecast where new winds will blow (we let go, let it go) A storm is drawing near, come meet me when it’s cleared Waste my youth chasing kites, I know will blow out of my hand"
walk both sides of it? you own that damn line girl! such power in the videos, just getting stronger love it love it thanks for allowing us to follow your journey :D
Det mest fängslande jag har sett på länge, kanske någonsin. Stämningsfullt.... mystiskt....magiskt.... Jag vet inte ens själv. Endast låten i sig var fängslande, men videon satte sista spiken i kistan -då var jag fast!!

It's a thin thin line and I walk both sides of it
See the other side, appear so tempting, worth dying for it
And your dreams, waking out of one
Absorbing your every thought
Worth risking it all for working its wonders and now for you
Under the ocean, outcast with nowhere to go (nowhere to go, nowhere to go)
A brighter forecast where new winds will blow (we let it go, we let it go)
A storm is drawing near, come meet me when it's cleared
Waste my youth chasing kites, I know it'll blow out of my hand
Put your heads in the sand, there is nothing there to seek
No discovery of mine will be safe in these seas
You feel a bitter taste on your tongue
Swallow your every wrong
Let yourselves be in your arms
In it are worries now for you
Under the ocean, outcast with nowhere to go (nowhere to go, nowhere to go)
A brighter forecast where new winds will blow (we let it go, we let it go)
A storm is drawing near, come meet me when it's cleared
Waste my youth chasing kites, I know it'll blow out of my hand
Overlooking our past, letting it go
A brighter forecast, new winds will blow

This is the most beautiful place I've ever seen. It seems to me like I've been there, just a long time ago
The whole thing is almost perfect in every way. Her voice catches you, and doesn't let go until the very last note. Hands down one of the best songs of 2014.
i dont know why this song make feel like a New chance a New beginning a New great day
Oh my gosh it's like within seconds I knew I was going to like this song. There honestly isn't an iamamiwhoami song that I don't like. Honestly my favorite group right now

Finally a song from this album that I completely loved as soon as i started playing it
same 4 me, been hooked since the intro, this audiovisual is very very strong,...if the mainstream media ever wake up? this is a bright new star in the making
2021 +
vander von odds performance of this is what made me fall in love with this song 💘
The highlight of the song for me is certainly 2:28.
the way this song uses backing vocals is awesome.
The part "The storm that’s drawing near" is so beautiful
THANK YOU! ❤️❤️❤️
Quem aí lembra do duplo lançamento de chasing kites e thin no mesmo dia? Foi sensacional!
Saudades ❤️
This song was exactly what I was needing right now
Musica excelente. From São Paulo Brazil.
I don't know how I got here, but now I NEVER wanna leave

There will never be a more bliss-filled expression of existing. thank you.
Every time I get lost and I find myself again, I listen to this song and watch this video. It means a lot to me, thankyou so much for creating it so perfectly.
meu deus que canção linda!!!!! em dúvida qual das músicas da jonna é a minha preferida ;_; DIVA!!!!!♥
By tomorrow we should be seeing the last of the blue videos...sad that another era is coming to an end but this has been possibly the longest journey. Almost a full year! Enjoyed the hell out of it

@iamamiwhoami your music makes me happy and I have butterflies in my heart listening to it. Thank you!
This is amazing. The visuals, the vocals, everything. You never fail to impress me Jonna, it's been lovely to watch you evolve
This is spectacular. I love Jonna's creative mind.
3:37 is that a dolphin in the sky?
☁️🐬☁️
the song is great but especially the video clip is pure art ! bravo to her
one of her best tracks? I think so!
I prefer Dive ;)
but this one is very good, I start to like Iam by this music
definately. the strongest ive heard so far, audiovisual experience like no other, blue and fountain are very visual and epic productions too, but this is the one i share to spread the word.
This one and t
Reamy scene!!! God they're perfect together! ❤️ I love the song. I feel emotion in it.
This girl knows how to use synths.
That's what her band is for (also).
She is not the one making the music. That's a no brainer.
@@ElMakz Actually... she writes this music (like the "synth" part too). sorry bro. She is Jonna Lee
Claes Björklund uses synths, she plays keyboard, but synths part is made by her partner
@@Galova But... She is also a composer and is very adept with synths.
this song is so beautiful god, i could listen to it all day
I can't get enough of iamamiwhoami
Adore your work, beautiful lady! Been a fan for a year now. You make songs and videos that are a multi-dimensional sensual experience and the ignition for inspiration in fellow artists and fans. That's what "youareareyouwhoareyou".
that is so right on.
love your comment Miss Ashley ! its adorable :)
Ruben De Los Santos
Thank you!
VincentDaFox
Thank you! And you're so right. Art is a painful, beautiful process. You never know what you'll educe from yourself till you sit back and let go! Can be pretty scary - but worth it for those "pearls" when they do come.
Loved your performance in Amsterdam, Jonna! Never saw this film before, magical. ✨
sounds like real powerfull CLASSIC tune .
her new album and videos are just brilliant, she is always brilliant though so im not suprised and yet its so refreshing. wow.
So beautiful it brought me to tears. You're incredible. This is incredible. Please never stop doing what you do. It inspires and moves me so much.
On repeat for the last few days!! Loving every part of it!!
"It's a thin thin line and i walked both sides of it"
This song totally sounds like writing abt her both Pop side as Jonna Lee vs the alternative part of her as iamamiwhoami.
Best song I've listened to this year! -- even though it was released in 2014, I know.
This song is so amazing! The whole album is flawless so far!
'Faking it' - thank you for this magnificent piece of music.
The legacy of that Kate Bush 'vibe' lives on........................................
I thought the exact same thing
i agree with tnargtnarud the magic of this album will definitely take take the hectic days of life we live. turn on this album, as well as the one before, kin, and let it all wash away into the salty sea and sand. thank you iamamiwhoami I am very looking forward to this album. your songs are an eclectic flow with this project! We Love You iamamiwhoami
I think this one is about all the places they have ever been and the discovering of new places. :)
"Over the ocean, outcast with nowhere to go (nowhere to go, nowhere to go)
A brighter forecast where new winds will blow (we let go, let it go)
A storm is drawing near, come meet me when it’s cleared
Waste my youth chasing kites, I know will blow out of my hand"
walk both sides of it? you own that damn line girl!
such power in the videos, just getting stronger love it love it
thanks for allowing us to follow your journey :D
It should be 1 billion views!
Over the ocean outcast, with nowhere to go
A brighter forecast, new winds will blow
The storm that's drawing near
It calms and the air is cleared!
I'm 5 years late BUT I'M HERE! WOW!
do you guys even realized that it's amazing? I mean... it's really clean and smart. truly art
Det mest fängslande jag har sett på länge, kanske någonsin. Stämningsfullt.... mystiskt....magiskt.... Jag vet inte ens själv. Endast låten i sig var fängslande, men videon satte sista spiken i kistan -då var jag fast!!
