From the Church at Jerusalem (which was broken up several times in history) the next oldest continuous church would be the Orthodox Church of Antioch (Antiochian Orthodox). The Book of Acts says that we were first called Christians at Antioch, and strong apostolic tradition holds that Peter was first bishop at Antioch before he went on to establish the Church in Rome-being later martyred there with Paul. So, following after Antioch and then Jerusalem, there would be the others of the five historical Patriarchates which have continued unbroken, both in the Catholic West and the Orthodox East: Rome (of the Latins), Alexandria (of the Copts), and Constantinople (“New Rome”) from which come all the Byzantines: the Greek, Russian, Ukrainian, Romanian and others now comprising the 14 canonical branches of present-day Eastern Orthodox Catholicism. Then there are also the Nestorian, Assyrian, Chaldean and Melkite branches of the Oriental and Orthodox churches which all came later (not necessarily in that order). However, keep in mind that the Ethiopian Church may have been founded very early too on the royal eunuch the apostle Philip baptized, as related in Acts 8:26-40. Likewise, the Armenian Church also traces an early origin, but it should be noted that this is supported from extra-biblical sources only which refers to purported correspondence between Jesus and their ruler, King Abgar V of Edessa. (See my response to the Quora question: “What country is the oldest Christian nation?”) The only other exception to Syrian Antioch’s claim of being the oldest continuous Church in Christendom is possibly that of the ancient Malabar Church of India (Mar Thoma Christians) who should be mentioned too; ancient tradition attributes its origin to the Apostle Thomas who it is said was martyred there. Protestantism (and its many branches) of course saw its beginnings in the early 16th century with the Augustinian friar, Father Martin Luther, who, by the way, stated before he died that he never intended to found a separate church apart from the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Hope this helps.
It makes no sense when Christians claim Catholicism isn't Christianity when there'd literally be no Christianity around had it not been for Catholicism and their religious zeal that spanned centuries.

To me it doesn't make sense, that the *ONLY* way to be forgiven is through believing that a blood sacrifice occurred, *IN ORDER* for God to forgive. To me, that doesn't make sense. Why is a blood/human sacrifice needed, *in order for God to be able, to forgive?*
It doesn't make sense to you because it's not true, God is the most Merciful and to be forgiven all you have to do is turn to him. Turn to God alone who is the all knowing and all seeing and sincerely ask for forgiveness and you'll be set. Reality is God doesn't need to send a son down to die and then come back to life so he can forgive all of creation. God can just forgive without sacrificing anyone, he loves his creation. The concept of Christ as The Ultimate Sacrifice comes from The Jews, who were meant to inherit God’s favor through the acceptance of The Messiah. The Ancient Hebrews regularly sacrificed animals in The Temple. Christ said he came not to change The Law( of Moses) but to fulfill it.
@@johnsteila6049 Christians twist the Jewish scripture without even understanding the custom of animal sacrifice in Judaism and the circumstances that surrounds the practice. Where does this sense of self-righteousness and authority over Jewish scripture stem from? I've read the Old Testament and the New. I've also consulted Jewish Rabbis with regards to the misuses of Jewish scripture by the Church and Christians, to support the pagan concept that stands as the foundation of Christian Theology (ie, the _dying-and-rising, death-and-rebirth, resurrected-god_ archetype). I agree completely that many Christian Missionaries committed terrible crimes against indigenous peoples. That however is far off topic to the subject being discussed here.
@@johnsteila6049 Let's not pretend that devout churchgoing Bible-loving Christians who believed they were touched by the Holy Spirit only sprung up in the late 80s and 90s, when they reluctantly began distancing themselves from the notion that indigenous and non-Christian peoples were subhumans and "damned souls". Horrible things were said and done by many people of MANY different faiths not just the Catholic Church. It is sad that it is still going on in the world even today when us humans are supposed to “know” better. My thoughts on this is first torture and murder in the guise of “protecting the faith” from contamination by unbelievers is something I’ll never understand. It seems to me that such treatment would result in the the person being hurt hating that religion. Forcing one’s belief on another person is wrong. I am a Christian and I am glad the things that were done in the name of my God are no longer happening today.
Twice the host described the bread and wine as symbols of the body and blood of Christ. In the Catholic faith they are not symbols and this show needs a host who knows what he is doing.
Not badly done. A little disjointed about how the beliefs fit together as they skipped from belief to belief, but I realize there is a time limit. The host was polite and acted sincere, but he could have dressed better as a show of respect.
Excuse me but catholisism IS christianity... very much so... it's the primary variety of christianity, then came orthdoxy, then protestantism divided in two forms: calvinism and lutheranism. Calvinism further divided into a huge number of reformistic denominations baptism, pentecostism, methodism etc.
Why do they pray to statues? Shouldn’t prayer only be to God? Isn’t that worshipping false idols? And what about seeking repentance and forgiveness from Christ? If Christ died for the sins of humanity, why is there a ritual to confess sins to another man? Aren’t sins already forgiven once someone accepts Christs?
And a few more questions. Why does the Vatican have a standing military, is it’s own bank, and is a Sovereign state? Sounds more to me like a government run type of business.
@@meb6869 they don't pray to statues, they pray to God. Also forgivness is given to the ones that ask for it. If you don't know about your sins, how can they be forgiven? That's sorta pointless since you're bound to repeat them infinately.
@@joakimblomqvist7229 That's the point, Catholics don't know what sin is, they don't even know they aren't supposed to pray to idols or to Jesus or to keep the Laws found in the Torah
@@joakimblomqvist7229 I'm sorry but that sounds ridiculous. How do you know if you sinned if you don't tell a man? I know if I've sinned or not because of reading the scripture.
We are commanded by Messiah that, “...repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” (Luke 24:47). In other words, we are supposed to preach the gospel that came out of Jerusalem and not preach the gospel that came out of Antioch, or Rome, or England, or New York, or Chicago, etc. By the time the gospel got to Antioch it had already been perverted as we read, “...And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” (Acts 11:26). The problem with this is that YHWH spoke of a people called by His name (Deuteronomy 28:10; 2 Chronicles 7:14; Isaiah 43:6, 7; Daniel 9:19; Amos 9:12; Acts 15:17). YHWH did not choose the name “Christian” for Himself. The people of Antioch chose that name and all the so called main denominations of today embrace that name “Christian” for themselves. When Peter and Paul preached the gospel they quote the prophet Joel, “Whosoever shall call on the name of YHWH shall be saved.” (Joel 2:32; Acts 2:21; Rom. 10:13). The English word "Lord" is not a translation for the name YHWH but is a substitution. I ask you, how many of the church fathers and so called main denominations of today preach that gospel? None of them. Absolutely none! Paul makes it crystal clear that the end result of him preaching the gospel was that the people would call on the name YHWH. He says in (Rom. 10:14,15), The preachers are sent. They preach. The people hear. The people believe. The people call on the name YHWH (Rom. 10:13). I ask you, how many of the church fathers and so called main denominations of today preach that gospel? None of them. Absolutely none! It took only one generation after the death of Joshua for the children of Israel to forget the mighty works of YHWH which He had worked through Moses and Joshua and to began to serve the elohim of the heathen people around them (Judges 2:7-13). It took only one generation! The most important thing that I learned in life is about the mikvah for the bride of Christ. A mikvah is a pool of water used for immersion. It has been used for thousands of years in the Bible and it is still being used today by both Jews and Christians. However, Christian denominations have turned baptism into an initiation for lifetime membership into their particular denomination. However, most believers know that Christ is coming back for His bride. But I just found out last year that every Jewish bride immerses herself in a mikvah before her marriage ceremony. Therefore, the reason I am telling you and my family and friends about this is that the next time you are in a pool of water immerse yourself as a mikvah to be part of the Bride of Christ calling on the name of Yahweh (Jesus = Yahoshuah = Yahweh salvation) for the remission of sins. ... ... ...
As a Christian, one aspect of Catholicism I have never understood is the praying to Saints? In my Christian Church, we are taught that we have a relationship with Jesus and repent our sins and ask for help directly to Jesus. Why do people pray to Saints? I just never understood that. Thank You in advance for helping me understand. 🙏
For the same reason that you would ask your pastor or your brothers to pray for you. Why do that if you can just pray to God? James 5:16 says “Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.” Who is more righteous on earth than those that already received the crown of life and are with God? They are still our brethren cause the church it is the body of Christ and death can’t change that. When Catholics “pray” to the saints they’re just asking them to pray for them. That’s just the basics, the doctrine of the communion with the saints is more wide and I encourage you to investigate why Catholics believe on it. You’ll be surprised to find how this was a practice since the beginnings of Christianity and even some details were present in Judaism.
praying to saints is pure idolatry. THEY ARE DEAD and the bible says that the dead know nothing. now this verse cannot mean that the dead are unconscious. for Paul said to live is Christ to die is gain but if the passage means anything at all it must mean that the dead know nothing of this world they are not looking down on us and you will find no scripture that says so the "cloud of witnesses" is merely a metaphor for those who have gone before they are incapable of interceding for anyone and there is no need for their intercession if we have the Holy Spirit as our Great Intercessor catholici8sm is riddled with man made traditions, and as we continue in our own ways protestant groups will become increasingly so also. this is the nature of sin

@@johnsteila6049
Christians twist the Jewish scripture without even understanding the custom of animal sacrifice in Judaism and the circumstances that surrounds the practice.
Without even understanding it, they (Christians) misuse and manipulate it to support a pagan concept (ie, the _dying-and-rising, death-and-rebirth, resurrected-god_ archetype).
It's important that you remain just, and acknowledge what you and others are (and have been) doing, is imposing Christian doctrine, onto Jewish texts.
All of that, was *completely* foreign, to Judaism and *Monotheistic Jews.*
Monotheistic Jews like the Christ (Jesus), his mother (Mary), his aunty, his uncle (Zechariah), his cousin (John the Baptist), and his brother (James the Just).
@@johndoeiii9767 I’m sorry, are you trying to make the point that the practice of Judaism was foreign to Jesus and his family?
@@johnsteila6049
No, the worship of a Triune-God, a resurrected-god archetype, etc. All those concepts fundamental to the core beliefs of Christianity had never been anything Jesus nor his family and Jewish followers adhered to. They were pure Monotheists. Never equating themselves or any of the previous prophets as being a co-equal or a 1/3 of God.

I agree completely that many Christian Missionaries committed terrible crimes against indigenous peoples. That however is far off topic to the subject being discussed here.
@@johnsteila6049
Let's not pretend that devout churchgoing Bible-loving Christians who believed they were touched by the Holy Spirit only sprung up in the late 80s and 90s, when they reluctantly began distancing themselves from the notion that indigenous and non-Christian peoples were subhumans and "damned souls".
Their motifs were Christian, the Holy Spirit is what carried them through the centuries all the way up until the late 80s and 90s. Less than 30yrs ago, the conservative Christian Apartheid regime of South Africa was setting police dogs on innocent men, women and children daily, and singing hymns in church the very next day. Let's stop pretending.

Horrible things were said and done by many people of MANY different faiths not just the Catholic Church. My thoughts on this is first torture and murder in the guise of “protecting the faith” from contamination by unbelievers is something I’ll never understand. Twice the host described the bread and wine as symbols of the body and blood of Christ. In the Catholic faith they are not symbols and this show needs a host who knows what he is doing.

Why need to pray jesus instead of Almighty creator?
Isn’t it better to request the king directly if possible.
For the same reason that you would ask your pastor or your brothers to pray for you. Why do that if you can just pray to God?
James 5:16 says “Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.”
Who is more righteous on earth than those that already received the crown of life and are with God? They are still our brethren cause the church it is the body of Christ and death can’t change that. When Catholics “pray” to the saints they’re just asking them to pray for them.
That’s just the basics, the doctrine of the communion with the saints is more wide and I encourage you to investigate why Catholics believe on it. You’ll be surprised to find how this was a practice since the beginnings of Christianity and even some details were present in Judaism.
praying to saints is pure idolatry.
