Still remember my granddaddy was still using an old M to plow and disk the fields up until the 70's with it. He was a tractor mechanic, so he kept it running well. Even let a guy use it once in a pull. Very strong built tractor.
Damn, I sure wish my ole man was still around, so the two of us could be doing this kinda stuff once again. I sure learned a lot from him. I miss him on a daily bases. Great video senior is a pretty good hand to have a round. Keep your powder dry!
Great video series! I am working my way through all the episodes before I begin a long term ambition to buy and restore an antique IH tractor. Thses videos shows what is ahead of a potential restorer! Regards from an Australian IH enthusiast! Thanks for making this video series
I’m just getting ready to watch all these. I just bought a 57 450 and I’m thinking they’re fairly similar. I know I’ll learn a few things and then hopefully I can apply them to my ol’ tractor. I’ve seen how it turns out and it is just amazing. Thanks for your time putting these together
Nice to see it going in the shop for overhaul. After the rebuild and getting the inside clean 15w40 runs really really well in a fresh tractor. When I worked in a machine shop that built a LOT of old gas and diesel engines we filled with and recommended 15w40 on all our rebuilds. If that M goes another 70 years on a rebuild, none of us will be alive for the next rebuild.
Well like I've said before Sr. Is pretty smooth on the backhoe. He must have had time to get use to it. Keep the videos coming you've been busy with a lot I'm sure. We do miss getting a couple new ones a week.
Nice project for your dad to get stuck into, here's hoping we get a 5-6 min video each night next week of how far he has got each day. Thanks for the videos you have a great channel.
Wow - tight fit into that spot. I've seen tight spots like that for parking older farm tractors, but I couldn't imagine trying to do major surgery without some breathing room. Hope the process isn't to unpleasant, hope the problem isn't too serious, and hope to see the Super M put back to work once again.
Hey we've seen Squatch Sr. talk on video before and he was good! Please reconsider shooting this somehow. Set it up where he could just narrate as he goes. Tell Dad he has Fans!
thanks for the video. something about the M...she is a timeless beauty. she has a soul, just like some cars. wish your Dad well on his rebuild. love your channel.
I'm a big fan of International Harvester and love the Super M & TA. Boilerplate Construction were IH. Enjoyed your newest episode and have yourself a great weekend🚜👍
Lucky M to be getting some love. My little Ferguson TEA20 has a similar knock I need to sus out. One day the noise just disappeared and I thought it was too good to be true. Turns out No 4 spark plug went bad instead. No fire, no knock. Oh well, least I know which end of the motor to inspect first - lol.
Good thing he has you around to help him with stuff. Mine is gone now. Wish I had helped him with more of his stuff but my job took up most of my time. That third hand (Kubota) sure makes things easier........Maybe the engine wont be too bad.
Seeing the Super M back into the shop reminded me of back in the old days of early 20th century, it was common to reuse small animal barns as implement storage. My great uncle told me of trying to back a rake in with a John Deere and hand clutch. The roof line came at mid back level, and his back would nearly touch the roof when the rake was in position. However, one day the positive inertial feedback from the hand clutch during reverse caused him to run his back into the shed roof. Luckily the steering wheel bent and he only cracked a rib.
I truly believe in my heart that it is more tractor than the new one. It will look nice even if you don't rattle can it, the original paint adds to the value as what there is left will buff to a better clean look but paint won't pull a plow and so just get the motor to behave
@@435now Indeedy. Squatch Sr. doesn't have a day job to go to during the week like Jr. does, so he's free to get crackin' on the M day-in and day-out and get it tore apart and the problem found and fixed.
Honestly the only problem I have with my narrow front loader are flats other than that the tractor is pretty stable. I only lift loads about a foot off the ground when moving dirt and lift high when I'm stopped.
I don’t know how you feel about this, but I’m thinking you should talk senior into restoring it. That Super M would look so good in fresh paint to go along with that fresh engine.
Yessir, the 'M' is missed and if you didn't have the Kubota the 'M' would've had to take itself apart! Glad Sr. will be getting oil in his whiskers. It'll do him good! Get him ready for firewood time. And yall will fix the 'M' better'n new! Thanks Toby! A-PLUS!
Good to see her getting a little TLC. Makes me want to tear into mine. Ive had a lower end rattle for years now, doesnt show any signs of getting worse and has tons of power yet, not real sure what the sound is to be honest.
Them old Farmalls dont look all that big until you put them in a garage. lol. Makes cars look like dinky toys with the scale. lol. Looking forward to the updates. :)
Hoping you do get some video of rebuild. I'm looking at a h with a plow on front. Dont know much about farmalls just that they are tough tractors. Need something bigger than my 9n
Love that old Super M! Gonna give her some fresh paint while you’re at her? Or keep the patina. I know u said u liked the patina on one of ur dozers... Great vid again!!!
The Super M repair would have been a very interesting video to watch. However we understand you cannot be at two places at once. The ol' tractor has been performing sterling service in the videos and we would like to know more about it. What was the model year, when was it built? How long has it been in the family? Has it gone through any major repairs in the past, etc. In New Zealand I have not seen any Farmall tractors (but I know of the make), in the old scene there are Massey Fergusons, Fordsons and Fords.
Squatch Senior has a project! Say, I saw all the antlers in the shop. If you aren't too attached to them, Rosa String Works here on YT makes string instrument parts out of them and asks for donations of them pretty regularly. He fixes pretty much anything acoustic with strings, plus he is on a farm and does some some machining as well, check him out if you get a chance. Thnaks for the great content sir!
Ok, makes perfect sense. I have seen them before, just never really knew for sure what they were. Thanks for humoring me. Make sure the worm and sector gears are well lubricated, if they aren't it really makes steering hard. I found that out on my M, what a difference some oil makes.
Hey Squatch! Just grabbed a 1953 JD 40. Engine had water in it, so I pulled the head, and it had a broke valve and some rust on top of the piston. Heads getting rebuilt at the moment. Tried to turn the engine over by hand but wouldn't budge. Long story short pulled the pistons and the engine wasn't the issue. The tractor rolls in neutral, but the engine's crankshaft will only turn when the clutch is depressed?? is this a bad clutch?
I have watched you work on many thing I have a question. I have 1070 case the 3 point won't raise when hooked to anything. The pto will not work when hooked to anything. I have changed the fluids, filters, pump still the same what do I need to do?
me thinks the old super m would look much better with the loader accessory blasted and repainted. maybe not the m's sheen of decor, but the loader being added seems to be a better looking machine repainted, and dolled up. The newer machine doing the lifting seems almost garish in comparison.
Was that garage built during the Model T days? I was afraid Sr was going to scrape himself off backing in there. I hope the patient survives the surgery and has a quick and painless recovery. I’ll be interested to see what the cause of the knock is. It doesn’t sound too bad but then there is never a knock that sounds good. 😎👍
You 2 - never run out of projects. Is senior gonna port & polish the head - put a super charger on-her? Gotta be a way to get another pony power or two outta of the old gal?
Hey Squatch how are you, you and Snr sure do get things done, but I'm not happy with Snr as I am one of his greatest fans if not ''The greatest'' and he's letting me down big time, I have even grown a for like beard just so I can be reminded of him through the day (don't get me wrong there's no bromance going on here!!) and he has decided NOT to contribute to your great channel, its not good enough and with you being Executive Producer and all from your point of view I would be considering his role in your channel, it could be time to move him on or at least put him on a Personal Performance Plan along with weeks of general managerial harassment from your good self!!! Great video guys and good luck with putting her right Snr, above comments all in jest, all the best from the UK ;-)
Kind of disappointing that the new tractor cannot fully replace the M although it will do many jobs just seems like a lot of money for a let down of capability when an overhaul would have sufficed.
Some of the gray import Kubotas are pushing 50 years and are still in use. As long as they don't have electronics, they'll last a long time. Aftermarket spares are available in Hong Kong, cylinder liners, pistons, bearings and cylinder heads.
Your going to need smaller tractors or a bigger shop, just saying that was a squeeze to get in. I thought you were going to break out some grease to lube your dads head to under that door

Came back to see the first day in. Senior did a great job documenting the work. It's great to see it running again and new paint.

There can be few better things than father and son working quietly together to a common goal - great!

So. There is x231, the Cat, and now the Super M..... shop is getting full, buddy! I like it!
Super M will respond well to some upgrades to the head, pistons and cam, we had one that PTO dyno'd at 109hp, pulled 4 bottom 18" all day long.
Last I knew, the Super MTA was in high demand as a vintage pulling tractor.
Mark Stockman
I don’t know why they’d want a super over a regular m
Nice that you caught whatever is wrong before it got too serious. Good luck getting her back in the field.
Yep some of the best tractors ever made a little T L C and she'll be good for another 70 years
Hopefully it's a straight forward fix. That's a sweet old Farmall. Senior had to shoehorn it into the garage!
Very nice video. Our old MF 65 had a loader, which got suspended from the ceiling when it was taken out.
That old M sounds like a dream
One thing is sure it is a dam great tractor, best thing to fix it, good luck

I thought you had a 350 on deck waiting to be put into loader service?....The super M must hold a special place in his heart if he's going this route.
I'm guessing this one is going to have a faster turn around time than the 350

what a great series of videos not sure what part of the state you're in what is the name of the salvage yard you keep refurling to

So glad to see the Super M getting some love.👍
Ah ha! That's why Dad bought the new one! BobUK.
Will be interesting to see what you fine. I will be waiting.
That new Kubota is sure earning its keep.
Best of luck to Sr. We will be waiting and watching!!!!
You 2 Guys are Very Cleaver together, Pop's pretty sharp you learned lot's, good Son.
Another good video. Love them old farmalls

Updates would be great! Good luck!
Should set up a go pro on the wall and show him how to press record
Let it record all day
Make it into a time lapse video
Not a bad idea.
I agree....then delete whatever you want and upload the rest...good idea fowletm1992
The Super M sure runs good. Power steering too!

i have both an 8n and m, ask if you got any question maybe we could help ya out
Now this will be interesting!
I wondered how much longer this venerable old work horse can be expected to run without a rebuild.
another 30 years lol
4000 hours replace bearings check over
Probably forever
I'm in the same boat when things get difficult colorful language just flows haha
Love that old Super M! Gonna give her some fresh paint while you’re at her? Or keep the patina. I know u said u liked the patina on one of ur dozers...
Great vid again!!!
Yeah that cracked yellow paint on the d2
I think he liked the nostalgia on the D2 because the layers of paint to a history story about the dozer.
Very cool.

Did I count 3 hydraulic pumps? It still sounds like it runs pretty well despite the knock. Hope it's something simple.
If you'll indulge my curiosity, what do I see bolted to the governor housing? I had assumed it was another hydraulic pump.
Ok, makes perfect sense. I have seen them before, just never really knew for sure what they were. Thanks for humoring me. Make sure the worm and sector gears are well lubricated, if they aren't it really makes steering hard. I found that out on my M, what a difference some oil makes.

Might as well put a fresh coat of paint on it and do a full service on everything else while you have it apart!
Definitely farming jeans, with 'Extra Ventilation'. LOL
Looks like a fresh ditch dug for power to the shop?
Note to self. If I ever build a shop, think high ceilings and tall doors (in case an “M” shows up.). That tractor is tall!
15ft tall is perfect height for whatever you need
Old super M looks real good without the load appears to have real stait sheet metal
If you hadn't pulled all those trees down you would have had a place to tie up that loader! LOL

Heck, I thought Sr. Would have had to come off the M to get in that shop door.
It fit with no bumps to head or pulling muscles by pushing it in.
Lol I've got a 1947 super A in the barn, third one I've owned. And the stack came off all of them just like your M...Must be a farmall thing,Lol.

Gotta put some M&W pistons and governor in it.
One of those 2 men and a small tractor jobs.
Could you do a time-lapse set up a GoPro like on garage door??? I'd love to see it Senior would only have to turn it on and off.
Who is the deer hunter ? Looks like some nice racks on the shelf there
Nice straight tin on the old M. Is she a family tractor from back when?
The shop looks big, till you get the tractor in there.
I think you guys need a larger shop. :-)
Is a full restoration the plan or just engine repairs?
@@squatch253 I've been keeping up on the restores you have going. Timing isn't always the best on some machines.
That light knock sounds like something in the cam in block.
When’s the last time that engine was apart?
Makes you wonder if in 50 years, the Kubota will be just as useful as the Farmall still is.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA, I think you know the answer to that one already!!
@@shrillcarder you might be on to something there.....lol
Won't take Sr very long to whip that. Doubt there is anything tore up that would require machine work.
Okay, I heard the knock

That tractors too nice looking to put that loader back on it.
You could stick a webcam or two up in the corners and do a time lapse.
look at all those soup bones
Are you going to put the loader back on now that you have the Kubota
This is surreal , Today we removed a Farmhand F 11 loader off of my 1950 Farmall M , yep, we will me looking for the source of the engine knock.
Bet that ole girl lasts longer than the Kubota.
No need to put the loader back on u have a Kubota for that ! That’s a nice old M
No Senior Squatch M rebuild series? Hmmmm.....
its the flapper cap making that noise
