I totally believe that a teacher makes or breaks your love for a subject or hobby. My favorite subject tends to always be the one with the best teacher, and my friends agree. imo, that’s a dangerous sort of pattern considering we’re all trying to chase down career paths, and are falling in and out of interest of things we need for college.

    • @gnarthdarkanen7464
      @gnarthdarkanen7464 4 роки тому +20

You can't let one braying jack-ass turn you bitter toward any subject. You should go and see something of it for yourself, and decide for yourself what the interest really is.
I had a few miserable excuses for teachers. In spite of the History Teachers who'd drone on in a monotone about the history of Europe since the fall of Rome, I'm a nut for history. I happened on a Renaissance Fair once upon a time, and got connections to historical societies because of them. It's a blast putting on strange, exotic costumes and joining the festivals and learning about far off lands and eras like Rome, Persia, and China... It's fun to dance in the circles and pick up Native words here in America, listen to the drums and the stories... It's a blast learning about folklore from everywhere in the world and figuring out things about different cultures because of the legends they passed down.
I picked up more about short-cuts in math because of painting and D&D than I did in algebra or geometry courses. I got extra credit (talk about lowered expectations) from my Geometry Teacher in High School by bringing my Dice into class... He was amazed to find D20's, D30's, and even a D100 (which rolled more like a damn golf-ball than a die)...
BUT I can do most of my own math in my head, in spite of a guy who'd obviously lost his faith in ever finding a student remotely interested in even passing the class.
There were "participation grade" classes like Wood-shop, and Auto-tech'... Yeah, there was some decent information, but it was mostly more than twenty years old, and the primary focus outside of that was checking fluids and changing spark plugs, unless you found your own projects, which could get you higher bonuses and grades...
Wood shop wasn't much different. You got a quick safety course, and a general overview of the books about how specific tools were intended to be used, and then either show up and do stuff or don't... We made a lot of things out of scrap-wood, so it wouldn't cost anything, and the teacher otherwise turned us loose.
SO I took interest in joinery, and I've since been able to get 2000 bucks out of a sofa with steam-bent wood in the frame to shape it outside of the "normal" shape of a couch. I've earned real money for framing houses and repairing rooftops. Other students in that class carried home A's and B's for showing up, but they wouldn't know a cross-cut from a rip-cut.
I know, there are teachers who are appalling in their awfulness, but some of the time, you've got to go after the knowledge for yourself. Remember, whenever you invest in knowledge or skills, you invest in a power that YOU will have and that NOBODY can ever take away from you. You'll get out of it, whatever you put in. ;o)

It wasn't really the teachers fault, but in elementary school i loved reading but when i got to middle i was forced to read books that i didn't like and do tons of book reports on them, i got super stressed because of it and i guess i associated that stress with reading, so i just didn't. And i still don't like to read to this day, and it sucks.

@@Kaytubeow157rfbrtmvs omg, same thing happened to me. Luckily, I’m back to being an avid reader. I’d recommend not focusing on reading levels-if a book is below your level, it’s okay to read it if it’s still fun. Some good books I’d recommend for ya would be the whole Percy Jackson series. And if you’re looking for something heavier and more sad, the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is an eternal favorite of mine.

@@tofuyuhiko5632 I just keep it laid back and I take it at my own pace... I started my interest in folklore mostly out of D&D, always looking for where the monsters came from or what I could use for new ones... BUT I figured a lot of things in the archaeological records made better sense when you had some context to go with them, like the whole Roman/Greek myths, the way it reads like the worst "high school soap opera" ever is a pretty good reference for how they viewed romance versus lust and nobility versus pettiness.
The Norse had a big thing for Ragnarok and the belief that a peaceful death in the quiet was a ticket to Hel... and that it was icy... not fiery... Keen insight in how they saw the world around them.
I'm still not sure what the hell to make of Baba Yaga in the Czeck, Russian, and Romanian territory... BUT I'm not all-knowing yet, so hopefully there's still time.
Among my favorites out of Japan was the "Shirime" (I think)... It (like quite a few) of their "demons" (not the best word, but close in translation) it preys upon your humiliation... I'd end up laughing hysterically if it was a real thing, though... BUT there's an insight to the inherent need to belong and show class at all times.
Yeah, I like to hope I'm pretty cool. I don't need to be too cool, though. Pissing ice-cubes is rough on the old plumbing! ;o)

How do you think we can improve these issues?

    • @Schornforce
      @Schornforce 4 роки тому +26

Bullying can be very difficult to deal with. Kids aren't stupid and do their best to either shift blame, hide it, and/or bully even harder in retaliation. Teachers should definitely do what they can, but it's difficult if administration and/or parents don't back them up. When I taught, I couldn't keep kids after school, couldn't really punish them, and they didn't care if I wrote them up or called their parents. Teachers can't force students to stay separated or leave others alone, at least not physically. They aren't even supposed to break up physical fights. It depends on the situation, but unless things change, there really isn't a simple solution, but I'd propose teaching children how to overcome being bullied and teaching empathy, emotional control, and problem solving early on in schools and trying to foster that throughout.

    • @Schornforce
      @Schornforce 4 роки тому +3

@Troy Witherman True. I think another aspect to be considered is teachers who are already in place. Maybe there should be testing and retesting teachers on things like classroom management and practices. I think to renew certification, teachers are only tested now and then on their content area, not on the more important stuff like dealing with a variety of people fairly on a daily basis or maintaining attention and so forth. Most schools have regular training, but not all and even then, there's not always evaluation on that training.

4, currently I have a _horrible_ math teacher and she is why I don’t enjoy school. I tried to give her chances, tried to believe she could be nice, but she yelled at me for not finishing my work and acted as if she had forgotten all about the 504 plan I have(basically I’m am legally obligated to be given extra time due a reason that varies by person of either mental issues, injury. etc.) that I suffered much to get her to understand. She has been working at my school for generations probably at this so she’s a little more “old school” (as some would say) and teaches her way and her way only, I have OCD(obsessive compulsive disorder) and depression so this has been *anything but* easy for me, I’m the type of person who also doesn’t mind others talk down on me as much as they want *ESPECIALLY* adults, but she has done it so *many* times to an extreme extent to where I could hardly take it anymore and now just try to put up with her because my parents won’t allow me to change classes because I’m in honors and she is the _only_ honors. I don’t really deserve any pity but everyone else in the class does because she’s like this to everyone, and the worst part is is that we have her for 3 years straight. She doesn’t necessarily have “favorites” but she yells at some more than others. Anyways, at this rate I could make a whole book about all she does so I’ll stop it here now, thank you so so much for reading all of this it is more than appreciated, this was kinda just me ranting so thanks for taking some time to see me basically rant about an old lady and have a great day/night! :)

I understand you. I was once accused of not handing in my homework and my teacher humiliated me in front of the whole class. I politely tried to tell her that I did hand in my homework but she didn't even try to suggest that she'll look for it, forgetting the fact that I never missed any homework that my teachers gave no matter what the subject is. I am very introverted and shy. So, her sarcastic voice that indirectly state that I was a very bad student made me scared to say anything more. I just hung my head low. The next day, she called me privately to her office and said that she indeed misplaced my homework. The thing is she didn't even try to clear my name after she humiliated me in front of the whole class. Everyone started distancing themselves even more when I was already considered as the loner and weird kid in school. I don't know why she dislike me so much when I never got into trouble or did anything bad to her at all. She always looks at me with a judgemental look in her eyes. I was very scared of her back then.

My science teacher was a bit of a *female dog* and when I had finished a test and gave it to her she had said some of these answers are wrong, do you want to fix them? I said I didn't want too. I had decided I needed a break and figured my grade was good enough. She had said alright, because you clearly don't care about your grade.

My teacher calls everyone by the name of the fruits that they like, and my teacher calls me an avocado, she's always responsible and tries to grade as quickly as she can. She always give feedback on something I need to work on but at the same time gives me courage and support. When anyone needs help, she always got their back. She even allows us to play Among Us after the lesson is done! She is so kind and sweet, one time I told my teacher that I liked to draw. And so she mailed me drawing supplies, a sketching book, and avocado headphones! I couldn't thank her enough, and she doesn't do this just for me, she did all of this to her other students as well.

you forgot one. teachers that single out students to humiliate them.
because of dysgraphia i always struggled with writing, especially spelling, handwriting, and grammar, but never had a problem reading. i wasnt diagnosed till i got my GED after i dropped out of school. IN jr high and highschool i finished my literature work and would read in class. My reading comprehension is higher than my ability to write. My teachers would use me as an example, point out i was "too dumb to read the book i was reading" in front of the whole class. if i asked questions, they acted like they were stupid questions that i was just too dumb to know, and told me to" just go ask your classmate X, they will "dumb it down" for you. everyone else understood , but i didnt. if i asked too many questions or struggled to much, rather than helping me , they would make off hand comments like maybe i should be sent back a couple grades, obviously i wasnt AbLE to learn in their class, in front of the whole class. It made me hate school, it made me hate teachers, it made me feel like i was just too dumb to bother learning. so i dropped out. BUT fortunately when i did get my GED , i got a GREAT teacher, who realized i wasnt dumb, buut had an easily overcome learning disability. She got me into computers to type out my work when i had to do essays. It made all the difference for all of my work. Typing is far less of a struggle for me than writing is. All it takes is a good teacher sometimes to rekindle a love of learning and expressing ones self.

Me too! I might have Adhd and Autism. I need to get tested. I have Anxiety Disorders and Sensory Processing Disorder. Most of my school is lgbt+, neurodivergent, or has a mental health disorder. I fit all three of those categories. I go to a conservative christian school (and I'm not conservative at all). Well, if you aren't any of those things or appear to not be any of those things, the teacher will favor you. I get really good grades, but because of all those things, my teacher does nothing but bullies me. I am actually traumatized from some of the things she has said to me. I don't have nice handwriting, I can't make eye contact, I have panic attacks, I dissociate, I have sensory overloads, I am nonbinary, I am (demi)panromantic, I am asexual, I can't focus on my schoolwork, I take medicine for anxiety, I use noise cancelling headphones in class, I have trouble with volume control, I am really bad with social stuff, I don't understand jokes, I can't read faces, etc. I'm everything she lectures us not to not be. She hates me, and she still doesn't know anything about me. I hate it here. Everything breath I take, she's watching me and judging me. I get really good grades. I try to be nice to people. I attempt to speak in class (but like this comment said, everybody looks at me like I'm an idiot even though I give the correct answers so it's a very rare thing), I make an attempt to be someone I'm not because this teacher just has to be a Karen. Even down to the " All natural is the only good thing, I take 300 types of vitamins in a day" stuff. She picks on people. One time she even accused someone of murder who didn't even go to the school. There was a former student years ago that committed suicide. However, she didn't want to believe that because "she was too happy to kill herself and she had plans for the next day". So what did my teacher do? For decades she decided to tell students that the BOYFRIEND, who she didn't even KNOW, that had NO REASON to be a suspect, murdered her. She literally told us all that the report was wrong because one of her students wouldn't kill herself. She hates anyone with suicidal thoughts as well, something I used to deal with. She also says crazy things like "don't have anxiety, it's not that hard" and "my parents were bad, so your problems are unimportant" and "just don't be depressed :)", "It's not that hard to focus", "It's not that loud in here, you are lying." Futhermore, she tells students to blame themselves for things that happened to them and never talk to their parents or anyone. Except her precious angel children with anger issues that are bullies that would definitely never do anything wrong. And she picks on kids with bad financial situations and adopted kids and bad home lives as well (so more stuff that is me). She especially loves to pick on kids with nobody to emotionally support them or believe anything they say, and that especially stinks because 80% of this school are "troubled kids". She has also bullied me countless times while in the middle of a panic attack, especially when I couldn't talk and make eye contact. She's made quite a few weird slightly threatening remarks like "I'm going to force a freshly pencil in your mouth because science says it'll make you smile" and "You have chicken arms and you are really skinny. If you don't gain weight, I'll force feed you vending machine snacks." And she's the type of Karen who will put on a fake af smile and overly sweet tone and act all innocent. She's also said some pretty rude things about my autistic brother and I honestly feel like punching her in the face every time I remember that. She speaks rudely about students behind their backs. She doesn't even teach you anything, she expects you to know it, while tellling everyone that she herself doesn't know the materials and has no education so they will have to teach themselves. She's never helpful, but she forces you to do things her way, which is usually wrong, and the school literally advertises that you can "work at your own pace" and have your own schedule, but you can't, or at least me and my friends can't. And one time she took me to the bathroom mid panic attack that she caused, and kept telling me I was ugly when I was upset and to look at my igly fave in the mirror and that everybody was right to bully me because I'm annoying them. She said way more than that, but at least 15 girls walked in on this. I don't really care how she treats me, but she better back the heck off away from my friends. And everybody knows she's a demon and does *NOTHING*

Here’s my experience with a teacher I had: My friend has a few mental health issues and struggles with her learning too. Our teacher would NEVER treat her like other students from my experience. I’m also sure she had favourites, and I wasn’t one of them for sure. Her favourite students were the ones that would listen, be smart and always seem to be in a good mood. She went on maternity leave back in December of 2019, so she’s coming back this December, and our substitute for then was an ok teacher, but she also went on maternity leave so we had another teacher and she is AMAZING. And I’ll say this once, nobody is excited for the old teacher to return. So yea, not excited for her return at all, but I might as well get through it. Wish me luck!

My Art Teacher was okay, but if I can say for myself, I think I have 2 best teachers.
One teacher is teaching in biology she's not the sweetest person, but I'm surprised to know that she knows when to settle down and talk normally and when to tone her voice up, so she's not so patient, but also not grumpy. She also makes sure that we all understand the material, not just memorizing it. Assignments from her is usually analysis-type, so even if we don't memorize as long as we're able to problem solve and connect the facts, we still can pass. She also often sums up what we've learned in the end of the class, and give us some moral advices. These makes her such a memorable teacher for me.
Another one is my literature teacher. She's more on the 'outgoing' side. She'll sometimes ask if we're having too much assignments, and if we do she'll let us take a bit of a break from it. Plus her assignments are usually on the 'do, not write' kinda thing. So it's not a bunch of questions dumped on a piece of paper, it's more kinesthetic. But also quite effective! She sometimes plays music from our choice when in online school, and back then when we're still face-to-face learning, we often work on groups. Also learning in a fun way like games, or learning through a song. I really can't forget that time our class sang together in her class, that was like one of the best moments of school, ever.
And sorry for this huge wall of text, not sure if anyone is willing to read this 😅

Aww im sorry:(. I had a math quiz like a year ago in 9th grade right? Well, I didnt study the night before that and I was sick and didn't go to school so I didn't know or have any idea that it even existed..when I came back the day of the test, she handed them out and I was really nervous. There was about 32 questions about multiplying dividing, fractions, geometry and algebra. I was like "okay this should be simple? I learned some of these." So as I was done with my test I handed it to my teacher and she literally ignored me when she SAW me walking up to her so I had to talk a bit louder saying "Hello? I'm finished!!." She looked up at me from her computer and says "don't yell at me." And grabbed my test from me really quickly and almost tore half of it. She looked through it and told me to "go back to your seat and just sIt tHeRE" (the other students got to move on to the next thing or be on their phones while I didnt) I was fine with that since I didn't feel good and I was like okay, better for me LMAO. soo everyone is done and she calls me to her table where she talks with the students ya know helping them prepare, group works etc etc. She calls me to her table and says "redo this whole test, UNACCEPTABLE VICTORIA" and I was like "what did I do" she literally gets in my face yelling at me saying "dO iT oR iLL MakE yOU" I was so embarrassed that I had to excuse myself to literally go CRY. It was 10:55 and it was the time for our next class. She took the paper from me hard and said "You guys im so proud of yall! Only ONE person failed the test. Yall where amazing!! Unlike someone." I was walking with my best friends and they're like "I'm sorry about her" and everyone at lunch just stared at me but my friends.

So we made different activities, expositions and videos that people enjoyed, but the teacher gave us a zero because she said that’s not how we’re supposed to do it, but the rest of the people confronted her telling her about how uncreative her classes were and then she passed out.

I’ve been teaching from home since August and there simply has to be a line between home and work, and working from home isn’t helping. I’m very behind, but I’m also exhausted, overwhelmed, and constantly haunted by headaches. Even then, I am there for my students M-Sat until 4pm.

As a student, I understand that grading can take a slow process, especially for classes that have essays like English. One year, in my favourite class, my teacher was the slowest at grading my work out of all the other classes, but that was purely because he was having to read 1000+ words from each student. One time, he had to read about 4000 words from each student and it was understandable why it took so long, considering he also taught other classes.

    *Warning: Long comment (story) incoming*
When I was quite young, I had a teacher. Let's just say they had favourites, and I was certainly not one of them. Whenever people had their hands up, they would go through everyone and then once they got to me they just carried on with the lesson like I didn't have my hand up. Clearing stuff up, to this day I am still 99% sure I never did anything to them.
Sadly, I had them for a second year. At the beginning they put all my friends toghether, and me on the opposite side of the room. I asked to move multiple times and they just said "I'll think about it." I was very happy less than half way through the year when they said they were going move some students around, and I was one of them.
Yeah, so they didn't move me to a better place. This teacher was well aware I was being bullied (along with my 2 closests friends). They put my 2 closests friends on the other side of the room, and moved the bully next to me.
    Thanks.
Luckily during the first week they had a 'tantrum' and moved next to their friend. However they moved one of the other bullies next to me. One of my other friends was sitting at the back with a spare seat next to them, so after being bullied for a couple months we decided to try and move me next to her. For the next 3 months every other lesson we would ask her at the end, and at the beginning of the last week she moved me.
Like I said, I was quite young and being put next to bullies and being ignored, while my other friends got to sit toghether, from doing nothing really hurt me and sometimes I'm scared to talk to teachers today just incase I say something 'wrong' without realising. It's never happened apart from that year, and even then my other teachers were fine with me, so I'm pretty sure it was the teacher not me.

As a teacher I can tell, that we need your feedback a lot, because there are times, when we might think that we pay attention equally to everyone, but there are students who don't feel like that...

She legit showed off her admiration of the mathematics in her classes by referring them to nicknames she created for them and actually posted a list of "top 15 favorites." She'd give nasty looks to struggling students while passing back their failed quizzes/exams like she wanted them to think it was all their fault for not understanding math when in reality she was the one who held no respect for students who aren't good at math like her. She also put me on an IEP thinking that I had ADHD when I just wanted to learn more. I was a very curious kid. There's nothing wrong with asking questions. Now that I'm older, I realize that I don't know enough after all this time. I'm only 21 and I'm not ready to be a mom because I don't think that I'm good enough to teach my kid the right way at least while they grow up before preschool. @@TijaunaK I appreciate your idea, really. Unfortunately my school is private, and there have been instances where the parents thought I was too harsh on their kids for being strict about participation. They ended up taking them out of the school, which translated to less money. My boss has also said that I'm frequently too honest about it on the students' reports, so I'm basically limited to saying that the kids need to speak up "a bit more". I don't think people appreciate honesty in general, and much less so when there's money involved. Again, thank you for your input.

I'm an educator, and this was pretty eye opening. I always try and be aware to make sure I'm not playing favorites, and to make sure I'm respecting my students and their time, but I admittedly fall into the pit of having trouble explaining things, and the whole class suffering for it. I try to be transparent about it and make sure they know it's okay for them to tell me if what I said doesn't make any sense, but it's one of those things I'm super self conscious about. That’s a really good thing to be encouraging! I have a super good math teacher and I don’t know if you would care but I have two ideas that might help you:
•You could start making a little box or online form where students can anonymously write suggestions about class/ their thoughts.
•This is more to help students feel comfortable but you should start encouraging mistakes (assuming you don’t already), this means like literally saying “did anybody make any interesting mistakes” and to encourage your students to share their mistakes so they don’t feel embarrassed in the future.
This is all coming from a student so I literally have no clue if this is of any help!

The first one was a free period teacher that was extremely condescending and basically made me feel stupid. I’m cutting that off now because if I go any further I will spiral. The other one was a computer science teacher. He…Was not pleasant. I have ADHD. And I know that is not an excuse for what I’m going to say next but. I forgot I had his class. Mainly because we were doing online learning. After we started in school learning. He basically made his class a living nightmare for me. He treated all the other kids with respect and praised them for doing good. And would be condescending to me. I struggled so much in his class. I ask him for help and he’d do it in a way that made me feel guilty and stupid. At one point I asked him for help and then winced when he looked at me. He helped me. Then said he wouldn’t help me anymore. I had to stop myself from breaking down until I got home. To which I just went to bed. I woke up because of a panic attack. I still had a month of school left. I failed his class. Not even getting my diploma made me feel better. I had to fake a smile to get through the pictures.

I was physically and mentally abused by teachers in the past, and it got so bad that I was afraid to even step foot inside of any school at all. I’d get chronic nightmares and my anxiety kept on getting worse and worse.
They did things like put me in a “quiet room” for misbehaving which was pretty much just a prison without anything to help us “calm down” but we weren’t allowed to leave until we “calmed down”. I’d get in trouble for crying when something was really difficult or stressing me out. There were also times that the teachers were hurting me so I had no choice but to attack them but in the end I was the one who got in trouble despite the teachers being the one who caused it. If someone is hurting you, isn’t it natural for you to try and get out of that situation? There were times that the teachers would never leave me alone and I couldn’t even go to the bathroom without being followed and there were times I wasn’t even allowed to go to the bathroom until I was “calm”, but how am I supposed to be “calm” if I feel like I could pee at any moment? Then I’d get in trouble for peeing on the floor, but that was caused by the teachers not helping me.
There were also times that they invaded my personal space to take things from me. I was just playing with a toy I had brought in but they ran right towards me and ripped it from my hands even though I wasn’t doing anything wrong. I was reading a book and it was about time to do something else, but I wanted to finish my page, but apparently I didn’t ask nicely enough to continue reading so they decided to rip the book from my hands without prior warning, the worst part is this was a book that I owned and had brought in myself and it was possible that they could have ruined a book that I had just gotten recently.
All of these traumatic events were caused just because I had autism and I was forced into autism programs. So many people with autism are physically and mentally abused, yet their real problems are treated as a punchline and there’s so many insensitive autism memes out there which just make problems worse. Things NEED to change so that what happened to me doesn’t happen to anyone else. I’m actually in tears as I’m writing this. So many people have gotten mad at me for saying “autism lives matter” stuff, yet they don’t understand the fact that they’ve been physically and mentally abused in so many ways.
Please, this stuff needs to stop. Nobody should deal with this stuff at all.

I should like to add one:
    Your teacher is an ideologue.
Your teacher teaches the subject but if you vary from the prevailing view, procedure, theory, etc., te attacks you. You may have another perspective, a better explanation of the phenomenon, or a better solution to the problem at hand (or just a different one). But if the teacher attacks you without explaining what’s wrong with your idea, te is an ideologue. Conformity to the prevailing way is paramount to that teacher.
How that harms you is that it discourages free inquiry and thought. If you adopt the teacher’s ideology, you won’t be able to think for yourself when the situation arises and the new circumstances demonstrate the old way doesn’t apply to the new circumstances.

yes i agree so much with this. i already struggle so much with even basic math, i dont know i only know how to do plus minus and kinda do some times stuff. i didnt know how to say like different time stuff like quarter past 2 before i was literally 14 years old. i literally almost only know 4th grade math because the teachers i had was so bad and my 5-7th grade teacher didnt help at all. she put me on the front row and said that would work, when it didnt it just made me feel nervous so it definetly didnt help. and usually on tests i think of ideas on how to solve stuff inside my head but i suck at writing how i find the answer down so i usually just write the way i thought i did it down. but no its wrong. because according to the teachers the way i do stuff is wrong even though i still write down how i found the answer. yes its not as complicated as it could be but i havent almost learned any math since fucking 4th grade or something?? isnt writing the way i found the answer good enough when i already suck at math?? AND i also have adhd so its even worse for me to remember stuff AND my brain work differently than normal people and they still expect me to think the same way. its just extremly dumb and closeminded of them.

As a teacher, I don’t think having a work-life balance means you lack motivation. Teachers work long hours outside of class time and it can be a heavy struggle to strike a balance between what needs to be done and within what time constraints. As a teacher who has worked myself to the bone in previous jobs with little support, I don’t think we should shame teachers for not putting in enough time, because I can tell you, the things that need to be done are endless but we still need to prioritise so we have a life. However, teachers should strive to inspire and care for all their students, expose them to challenges and ignite their passion for learning. It makes me incredibly sad to read the comments of people who have had poor experiences with their teachers when so many other teachers give so much of their time, energy and money into caring for their students. Clearly there are not enough of them yet.

@@eliza.the.earthling That's how I feel with my math professor as of late. I respect her as any teacher, but unfortunately how she teaches statistics is ineffective. Now first off most of my students go through Zoom, at around the current pandemic, I knew that when the schools closed learning things online would be impactful. My opinion is subjective, but sadly she never seems to challenge me, nor any other students at least not that I am aware of. All she does through the sessions is talk throughout the lecture, but with no way for students to interact or practice the methods. Think of it this way, the teacher lectures with her lessons from the notebook online, but never seems to find a way to get students involved other than asking if anyone has questions. Secondly during the lecture I don't know if she has found a way of encouraging students to maintain focus during the lesson. Because through the lecture she never seemed to find a way to inspire us to work, not even find a way to enjoy learning her class once, which sadly made me miserable and I can't say the same for the other students but maybe it is relatable. Lastly even after the lecture it feels like I have to be back at square one in starting the lesson all over again through videos but it's tricky when caused from many factors, whether your room is the only place to work, the distractions around your room, or caused by others unintentionally, lacking space to have a desk, etc. I never thought I'd be willing to fail a class. It's why I try the online counseling for choosing my classes wisely with informed decisions. But I never caught on my math professor's teaching methods until it was too late.

Once had to make up a listening test since I wasn’t there for the test for a reason I’ll explain later. Me and this one other girl had to do this test and the teacher told us we had to come in during break to take it. Show we show up at break, and the teacher doesn’t come out until after break where she says to come back at lunch since she was busy. So we’re a little annoyed at this, but we give her another chance since she has the IB students to worry about.Couple lessons later it’s lunch time, so we wait outside her class door to take the test. She isn’t showing up AGAIN and since we didn’t eat before we were starving, so we quickly run down to the cafeteria and eat lunch in like ten minutes. So we run back up, fearful we’ll miss her, and we wait by the door. She once again doesn’t show up until class is about to start and says that she was once again really busy and that we wouldn’t be able to take the test. She asks us if we are sure we want to take the test. For some context, the next lesson we were there for they were still grading the listening test, so me and this girl got the opportunity to get 1 page done. Even if we got full marks on that one page (which we both didn’t), we would only have had a quarter of the answers “correct”. She tells us she’ll try to average out our grade based on schoolwork, and that we should try to be in school the next time we have a test. I honestly was in a state of shock, because it wasn’t something I could help with. The reason I was out of school? I was attending my dad’s funeral. Yeah. Looking back on it I wish I said something along the lines of “Sorry, I’ll make sure that I miss my dad’s funeral the next time I have a test.” Would have really made her regret that decision to say that. Obviously that was a pretty slim chance of that being my reason for absence, but still any wedding or funeral would still be a hard hit.
I guess the lesson here folks is to not assume someone’s absence, they might be attending their dad’s funeral.

There are teachers who demand discipline from students, but lack discipline THEMSELVES. They cannot communicate their instructions very well that ultimately, it's like they're asking their students to READ THEIR MINDS and when students are unable to do so, they resort to punishments. These type of people are not good educators, but they serve as a good example for students to not become like these people one day.

I have discussed that with my friends and got to a point, where if you have to send homework everyday, your students have to spend days studying out of school without having time for themselves for them to learn anything, you are not doing your job. A teacher's function is to teach, not to just say information and expect your students to get there. That's the biggest flaw on the school system, you say we have a lot of free time, but we don't, because we have to do your work ourselves and spend those said hours learning alone because you couldn't do it.

They nag how we should do online class because they’re too lazy to teach so throw loads of work everyday and expect others to keep up with it and put those down by calling them lazy if they don’t have it completed. I worked so hard to stay on top of it all but they throw work without notifying the class alongside that I have to make sure to check everyone of my school apps to make sure they didn’t add more for me to finish up. My family doesn’t seem to care either if I work hard for my grades, they’ll care or pay attention if someone fails 😞
