Professor RobBob, thank for demonstrating the use of the Ti-NSPIRE calculator for graphing parabolas/quadratics. This calculator is fantastic when it comes to graphing, solving and analyzing equations.
On the night before finals struggling with my calculator...you saved my life
Hope you passed that exam like BAM!!!
...and after you do please sub and share this free resource with everyone:D
It took a long time to warm up to the NSPIRE. But now that I have, especially with teaching statistics, I really appreciate the new calculator...a lot. Color helps a lot, because the black & white NSPIRE is hard to read. Force yourself to remove the 84 keypad and I think eventually you will feel the same.
There is a way to chance the settings for the table, but to find a y coordinate for one x value, I would just go the a calculator page and type in the function with that particular value of x substituted in.
Since you have a closed interval for your domain. Plug -5 and 5 into your function to find the left and right end points. You then go the the analyze graph menu and identify the minimum and maximum values within your closed intervals. The smallest and largest y values you get from all of this will define your range.
With the software update these calculators are a bit different now. I need to do some new videos. I am glad you figured it out:)
Do you not have drop down menu in the upper left corner to change the view when looking at your virtual calculator? I have the teacher software but I got it at a training...I don't know how much it costs. You can look at the TI website.
If you are doing great with the ti-83+ and you don't feel like you need another calculator...just keep using it. If you like gadgets, and if you are going to be taking statistics soon...especially:), and you have the money, I love my new NSPIRE CX. Be careful getting the CAS version though because you may not be allowed to use it on your tests. Check with your teacher and any standardized tests you may have to take in the future. The color versions are MUCH easier to read than the non-color.
f(-5)=-24, f(5)=126, relative max (-3.08,6.04) and relative min (1.08,-30) so the range is -30 to 126
Without seeing your calculator and playing with it myself:) try going to settings from the home screen go to handheld setup and select Restore. If your are just using scratch pad, you can go to scratchpad menu and select Clear Scratch Pad
Go to settings and status of your document, chose document settings, and change angle from Radians to Degrees. You will need to make your x axis much larger. I don't know what math class your are in, but if you are starting to study radians you should stick with radians.
Your question made me realize I forgot how to change the color. It is not a right click but with the graph selected you can click CTRL then MENU to open a window where one of the choices is color :D
You can take the equation and solve it for y so you can put it into the calculator, but you will need two equations. One equation for the positive square root and one for the negative square root.
The newer software allows you to put in equations of conic sections and within the menu is an option for horizontal parabolas...though I have not played with that menu.
I have a TI-89 Titanium and I actually had some first-hand experience with the TI Nspire CX. Man, that thing was a beast! It certainly took me some time to get used to the controls but overall it was pretty good. It's certainly overkill for high school Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II but I'm heading into the engineering field and I'm greatly considering getting the CX CAS. (Also, it seems like the CX CAS can do implicit differentiation which certainly will help with my AP Calculus AB class!)
The entry button on the bottom left is missing on mine.......
Agtsmirnoff I can't find my entry button either. Still searching on how to get it to pop up for me.
Agtsmirnoff You may went to update your software if your entry line is not showing up like mine does with the TAB button.
Devan Eve You may went to update your software if your entry line is not showing up like mine does with the TAB button.
ProfRobBob I ended up figuring out how to get the entry line to pop up. I just wasn't using my calculator properly. >.< Thank you for your reply!
Devan Eve you're welcome thanks for taking the time to watch and sub!
I'm an adult student working full time studying via correspondence, thanks very much for your clips they have become invaluable, can you show how to find the range of a function using TI-Nspire, eg f(x)=x^3+3x^2-10x-24 for -5
Can you program the Calc to run short programs with input and output ?
can you show me the way to right-click on the handheld (for instance right click to change the color of the graph)? Thank you.
I have noticed you have a lot of videos covering the TI Nspire. I currently use a ti-83+, is it worth the upgrade to the NSpire CAS CX? I am currently a precalc student and an Applied Math major / Statistics minor
Thanks!
I am not sure. I have not seen that option graded out on my calculator:/
There is no entry button on my calculator, and when I use an inequality the calculator wants me to enter a new function. I have a cx CAS.
you seriously just saved me on my next test! thank you!
You're welcome Sara Jenson
...now tell all your friends, class and teachers to watch, like and subscribe too...BAM!!!
Wow, I didn't know that you had tutorials of the TI-NSPIRE calculator, Nice!
BAM!!! jose gonzalez...you just never know what you might find from ProfRobBob :)
I don't remember if it was that great with implicit differentiation.? It was a huge help with helping me create new problems for my UA-cam videos though:) Make sure your classes will allow the CAS version inn your class! Thanks for watching...sorry for the long delay of replying
I don't understand your question sorry. You want to plot a single point on the calculator?
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching:)
I just got a TI-nspire cx 3 days ago and I have absolutely no idea on how to graph hyperbolas, ellipses, and polynomial functions. Can you please make a video on that? Thank you so much(:
Hi-where did you get the full virtual calulator. I have the student softwarte and it is headless. I this the teacher version. How much? Thanks!
BAEM U JUST SAVED MY LIFE
Glad I could help!
Please help us keep helping others by sharing this channel; with EVERYONE you can and remind them to like, subscribe and keep spreading thew word...BAM!!!
Hello professor, I have a problem with my TI-nspire CX. I bought it about a month ago and it was working fine, then I was messing around with it and now I can't seem to graph things with it. I now get a syntax error or a you don't have access to this message. I installed the student software and it has not changed anything. How can I fix this problem? I am doing final exams, they are due tomorrow, however it is pretty hard without my calculator. I already don't understand this stuff as it is.
you are so enthousiast I love it!!
BAM!!!
i have a TI-nspire CAS, I know how to graph and find points at whole numbers but how do I find a "y" point at an x value with a decimal place?
I am having a hard time keeping up with making videos for a new class I am teaching this year. Sorry I do not have more time to make a video for you right now:(
Very nice! You made my day better.
Something I had been struggling with was getting a table to show up after graphing inequalities. Well, what I figured out is, when you tab back up to change the inequality sign, mine seems to show an equal sign and I pressed enter. It left my info shaded, and then gave me my table!
You're welcome!
Hi! When I want to find the zero of a function, its always in decimal form instead of fraction form. How do i fix this?
I would appreciate a video on graphing polynomials of a higher degree using the ti nspire
I am currently trying to make plans and videos fast enough to stay ahead of my new Calculus class. But, you can use the carrot button to the left of the x^2 button to enter degrees that are higher than 2. Thank you for subscribing.
Dude u saved my life. Thank you so much!
One student at a time Bruno Stepanenco :)
Thanks for liking and learning...don't forget to subscribe and spread the word:D
You can add a list and spreadsheet page to enter coordinates in a list and then add another page to make a scatter plots. But adding those points to the types of graphs I made in this video...I don't think so.
hey, is there a way to make the calculator show "all important parts of graph" without guessing the needed dom and ran? e.g. a graph I just made had a y-ordinate of the turning point at 15189 and it took me AGES to get the correct dom and ran to fully see the graph. Thanks for your help :)
@SuperTheGm :) Glad I could help!
The analyze graph is grayed out. How to I fix this?
Thanks for the tip on how to find the x intercept. Is there a way to search for a specific x value of a function in the split screen table, other than just scrolling to the desired x value?
Chance Hope I don't know if this the best way, but with the table select you can hit Menu>Table>Edit Table Settings, then change the Table Start Value.
Thanks for the advice.
Chance Hope you're welcome..please like, sub and spread the word:D
can somebody explain how do i find Y value when i have X in this calculator?
on the ti 84 you view the x and y values. where can I see the list of y values?
Watch Regression Lines, Residual Plots, and Correlation with TI-NSpire.
how can you make one axis 10 and the other one 2 with the spacing of the axis' the same?
+ProfRobBob please help me i have a test tomorrow, how do i say x>= 0 when ever i type it, ot says bad syntax for inequality
once i pass this class with a C, i will burn this thing and never look back
how do you plot single coordinate points (x,y) on to the graph and then calculate the line of best fit
I don't have the show entry line in scratchpad. How can I find it?
Try updating your software if you haven't figured this out already:(
Hey this is a very old video and I just got on, there is no button so u can input an equation and I was wondering since I deleted the f(x) when trying to graph, it won't comeback, does anyone know how to. My model is TI-nspier cx
how do you get exact values, not decimal on the graph page?
please teach me how to get the asymptotes and range,I'm having an exam in two weeks time n its biggg
Is it possible to have a Log scale for Y-axis?
Hi! I'd like to ask if this calculator has the Greek alphabet integrated in its charset palette. It seems very difficult to find an answer on that online. Congratulations for your video, it offers a ton of useful and interesting information!
It does
Great video, appreciate the help :)
yeah i lost my ti-84.. but thank you, i was thinking of buying one of these. seems like this calculator isn't that difficult for basic use.
You are welcome. This calculator takes some getting used to, but I am sure you will love it. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Hi, I would like to know how to view the points "(x,y)" on a graph when I type it in.
My problem is f(x)=-2x
I graph it and it shows the correct graph but no plot points. How can I get them to display.
With graph showing hit menu, then chose split-screen table to show your table of values.
How to get the exact values (no decimal) if the zeros are something like square roots?
Press ctrl and the equals button for exact values
Thanks:)
This is really helpful thank you so much
You're welcome and thanks for studying and subbing and please spread the word thru social media too...BAM!!!
how do you graph just a regular angle? ? like 135° or 270°
in a 4 quadrant format. ...??
How would I graph a relation such as 3y=5x^2-7?
Thanks.
Im not able to access my '6: Analyze Graph' option in the menu as it is not highlighted.. do you have any tips on how I can activate this option?
+Joelle S Your calculator is probably in Test Mode. You can exit by downloading Nspire link software. Then creating a file called "Exit Test Mode.tns" and dropping that in the "Press to test" folder of your calculator documents.
+Joelle S also the file "Exit Test Mode.tns" is just a blank notepad file you can make yourself. It must be as I typed it exactly.
How do you graph a horizontal parabola?
do you know how to plot the (x,y)?
im trying to graph x^2 with 0
If you hit menu while looking at the graph there is an option to view a table in split screen. Beyond that, I am not sure how to answer your question.
please do a video about how to do x=2 instead of y(x)=2
I bought this calculator several years ago. I still rarely use it and don't like it because of its user unfriendliness and go back to using my TI-84. Actually the Casio Prizm is superior to both the newer TI-84 CE and the unfriendly Inspire.
Should I get the ti ns pire cx cas or the ti 89 titanium?I can't decide!!!
You should get the cx cas in my opinion :)
CX CAS is pretty much the 89... but it's better in almost every way
This was helpful. Thank you.
+TaginusOfAinusgard you're welcome, thanks for watching and liking...please sub and share too:D
I can't see the show entry line. What do I do? I have the TI-nspire CX
With the graphing window open...hit the tab button.
ProfRobBob Not OP but omg thank you! I was searching for this!
How do you find the y - intercept using the TI - nspire CAS?
Supergoose sevens I don't know if there is a option for that in the menu. The y intercept is usually much easier to find than an x intercept. Plug 0 for x into your equation and usually just a little bit of arithmetic will give you the y-intercept. Using the calculator, I think you may have to view the table and go to where x=0.
ProfRobBob Thank you so much.
Supergoose sevens you're welcome! Please take the time to subscribe, like and share my channel with all your friends, classmates and teachers as you remind them to all do the same to help these free educational channels grow and remain free:D
the graph lines themselves aren't showing up. how do i get them to show.( im useing th Ti nspire CX CAS)
Make sure the window zoom settings are correct for your lines you are trying to graph, or look to see if the box to the left of f1, f2...wherever your equation is has a check in it. If these suggestions do not help, I am not sure.
ProfRobBob thank u. Hat to fix zoom
what about how to do 3d graphing in the basics
thanks so helpful
+Blake Fung you are so welcome and thanks for liking, learning and subbing too!
Cx or cx case?
If you are allowed use a CX CAS in your class, I would get that but I am sure most teachers would not allow you to use it during tests.
how do i switch the xscle
With the graph up, hit menu, window/zoom, window settings, and you will see where to change the axis scales.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
BAM!!!
Good to see you again:)
Thanks!
Watching another video already?!...that's awesome!
My freakn Teacher made me watch this thnx alot brh whhwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!
+Lakin Thert thats me right now lol
Thank You for this Video ;)
I found it very useful video. I just realize its to complicated do all this if you use your calculator regularly. I better find a touch screen calculator instead.
Happy to help!
thank you so much :D
I back AGAIN - BAM!!
GREAT to see your smiling face again...BAM!!!
Welcome back...always good to see your smiling face!!!
But they would have to clearly state that in a syllabus, which none have done.
I returned to my Casio FX880...switch on and you can start...this one needs longer than my PC to boot.
wow papa
I guess being from an older generation, this calculator just has too much of a learning curve. I purchased a first generation Inspire with the interchangeable Inspire/84 keypad and I use the 84 keypad 99% of the time. Even after buying a newer touch keypad and downloading the newest operating system, it is still a very frustrating machine. I think TI would have done much better to give the TI- 84 a color screen with higher resolution than invest all their money, time and energy in the Inspire.
All quiet on the set, please.
BAM!!
Thanks for watching!
Don't forget to like, sub and share:D
Is anyone else's graph not working?
They couldn’t just update it and add touch screen ugh.
You have dogs don't you
Yes...2...nice observation Michael Greeb hope they weren't too distracting:)
You're welcome!
once i pass this class with a C, i will burn this thing and never look back
Thank you!
