Machine Gun Smelly is the best joke James has ever made or will ever make . P.S. The main issue with this has defo got to do with Danielle’s lack of vocal confidence. It’s not that she can’t do pop punk (look at Willow, it’s defo possible), but that her vocal performance needs training for it.
Willow has amazing vocals as it is though. Not saying Dani can’t get there, she definitely can, but willow has always had a stellar singing voice naturally
i’m kind of surprised i haven’t seen anybody mention this yet but i suppose it’s an indie band for a reason- beach bunny also does a pretty good job with pop punk. i would say their general genre is closer to indie rock and indie pop, but a few songs are reminiscent to pop punk, and it works well because of trifilio’s confidence/power in her voice. danielle could get there with vocal training, but it also doesn’t seem like she actually cares about it, she’s only doing it because it’s trendy and, as james said, her fanbase is getting to the age where cursing a lot is considered cooler, or something like that…
And now for Dixie’s song ‘Psycho’ and the Influencer Music Anthology can continue on. But really though James, loved the vid. Waited a long while for a new vid to pop up. Can’t wait for James Day next week (hopefully)

The resurgence of pop punk can be critiqued, but increased presence/representation of POC in pop punk (Meet me at the Altar and Willow Smith) should be mentionned, imo. Growing up in an era when I was the only alt POC in my friend groups, the bands at the time (who are great, not dissing on that fact) being predominately white and the gatekeeping of the alt ''aesthetic''(being pale aka being white) it's refreshing to see new faces, Danielle Cohn not being one of them tho
