@@ThairishTimes great video Pete. I've had messages with Pat before about his brief Leeds background and he's from my childhood area of Horsforth. Could you and Pat do some live vlogs, you're a good combination. Maybe walkabouts with him, he can do the history and you can do the banter with the locals. It would be very entertaining.
Excellent piece. IMO Pat has the best Thai/Bangkok related channel going. He's humble, funny, extremely knowledgable.... editing and production is excellent, and his relaxed easy to understand delivery/presentation is relaxing to view (never boring). A real cut above most others out there. Great interview BTW.
Pete, thanks a lot, that was a lot of laughs mate, although you left out the part where we had to escape my cat fan club, who followed me, thinking I was excluding them from a new video. Don't forget my next video intro....
You two guys are a very welcome addition to the Bangkok cultural scene. Bangkok Pat seems like an interesting character, although I have never met him. Cheers, guys . Great job.
Just want to commend your bravery in sharing your life experiences and some low points in your life. What came through is a real authenticity that is really rare in these candid style videos. My own life experience resonates with some of those you mentioned. Thanks for sharing this.
Pat's fast become one of my favourite expat Thai vloggers. I like the history. It's a unique take on Thailand from an expat - and he clearly puts a lot of time and effort into his films. Don't go down the lazy live stream route, Pat!
Since I started watching Pat's channel I'd wanted to know something of his back story. Thanks Pete for bringing it to us. And my best wishes to both of you.
There are definitely many travel "vloggers" on UA-cam and so many are from rookies that know nothing about Thailand, fail to do research; thus, their travel experiences in Thailand seem to be entertainment for them and maybe their friends and family. Since I have lived in Thailand for 17 years (lived/ worked near Bangkok- now living in Isaan retired) I follow 4-5 different "vloggers" that suits my interests. Bangkok Pat is one of them since he gets into the historical background of Bangkok; Pete gets into interviewing interesting people living in Thailand; "Retired Working for YOU" and another one about living in Isaan. It was nice to watch this interview and learn about Pat's background and was surprised to see him have such a quiet personality. Good fellow for sure.
Another excellent interview of a UA-cam legend! Just love knowing more about Pat because I so thoroughly enjoy all his videos and cinematography. He’s a real artist and should have half a million subscribers. Thanks for bringing these interesting folks to us!
Thanks !!! Enjoyed it. Honest, open talk, there aren’t many like you guys on youtube, keep going, I will be watching! And please, keep it that way, it’s really nice how both of you do your channels, your work, thanks!!! And yes, I absolutely agree, Bangkok in the 80ties was fab !!!! I I used to go to BKK twice every year starting in 1986 because of my business and really enjoyed it, it was absolutely chaotic, but so nice, no mobile phones!!!! We lived in the present without distractions, and if we wanted to contact our families, there was only POST RESTANTE, remember well all those trips by boat from KaonSan to the general post office , i remember the coconut cookies we bought by the piece, ….many days me and some friends would just hop on a public bus without knowing where we wanted to go….just got off when we liked some old buildings or if an area looked interesting……so often we got completely lost, but always found our way home, somehow
We are watching and learning Pat, keep up the good work, Have lived here 13 years ,now more Aussies come live here thanks for your wise stories of Thailand.
The teacher being a bully is something that happens all to often I was bullied by multiple teachers growing up then my son had to deal with that once he was brought to tears in front of his entire school that's where I drew a line caught an assualt charge for smacking up the teacher and he has been out of the public school system ever since

It’s November 7th as I write this and I just watched this video. As an avid fan of Thailand UA-cam videos I was instantly drawn in to this video of Bangkok Pat. You did a great interview Peter. Pat is an absolute legend. My career before retirement was 40 years of dealing with the public so I naturally I can see through 90% of the BS that was part of my everyday. There’s so much to say about this video and the great interview you did Pete. I just hope one day I get to meet both of you. 2 absolute legends and that’s my 2 cents from this guy from America 🇺🇸

Just saw this! Got to say, thanks! I've wondered about "Bangkok Pat's" story. He has such informative videos and they have become my favorite and 'go to' UA-cam videos. We've visited & live part time in Bangkok for a few years now, and his videos have informed, explained, and shown us things about Bangkok we would not have learned in 'many years' of living here fulltime. 2001 I remember the days when there’s were more cheaper food courts and better value for money. On his videos when he talks to the camera is he using a tripod? I agree with all he said about Bangkok turning itself into shopping mall city. But look closely at those malls. Same shops same merchandise. One mall is just a clone of another.
A great video featuring my 2 favourite Thailand UA-camrs. You done a top job on the interview Pete, some good questions and your relaxed style allowed pat to open up and share his interesting story. Would be nice to see you 2 collaborate more often
Pat's channel is great. (But deep down inside I know my videos are crap) However, Pat's are excellent and super informative and he deserves many, many more subscribers and views.
You certainly find them. Shopping Malls came along in the 2000's? There have been some around since the late 1980s and 1990s. In fact, in the 90S, Phra Pinklao road went mad with mega malls. Plus Bangkok was a skyscraper city even then.
1997 Bangkok was pretty similar in many areas. Khao San Road wss first place we stayed. Some places were tired and worn out then and they are still the same. Going over the other side of the river for Icon Siam was not something really on the radar before but streets around there need exploring. It's a fascinating city and one that always intrigues. Like Pat I like history and the stories behind the streets are so interesting to me. So thank you for the interview. it was very well done, I like your laid back approach. Keep up the good work.

Do like BKK Pat's intro, a James Bond swagger you might say 😎. Pat has a great info channel and really enjoy his knowledge/history of the area. Another top interview Pete. Cheers to you both.
It seems people think the time when they arrived, or before that, was chaotic, and then it changed. The funny thing it that this is independent of the time when they actually arrived. 1970, 1980, 1990, ask old timers like Roger Crutchley or read his book. He arrived on a bus from the UK.
Amazing guy. Probably grew up in the same type of area as my father though maybe a decade later. I didn't know there were Thai people in the UK back then. I adore his videos on the Thaiger describing the history of different areas. Wish you both the best.
Great interview of Pat. Like how Pat opens up. I'll be checking out more of your videos. Next time I drop down to BKK I'm going to look you up Pat and have coffee and lunch along with a good chat.
I love Pat's channel, but I feel there's some gaps in this story. The channel indicates he joined in 2013, yet the videos go back only a year. On top of that there's a lot of great production values in terms of editing and presentation of both video and audio. On top of all that, the historic information with supporting photos and video. Care to offer a part two of this interview? 🙂
Fascinating on the search for family history. My Mother did extensive geneology work for years. I have bins of her hard copy documents that were meticulous. I was a cop for nearly 30 years (yes, I am from Chicago....lol). I have never seen an investigative case (fille) that comes close to what Mom put together. It still amazes me the work she put into that. Most extensive "family history" case I have ever seen. Absolutely remarkable. Would make Marcel Guillaume blush.
Hot Seat with Pat! Happy to see you retuning the favor! Also great to hear Pat talking about himself, he’s just as interesting as the city he narrates 😎
Thanks for another interesting video. Im sure you could do another one with Pat since he probably have a slightly different view of the thai life. Its extremely interesting to learn from people who are open to share like the ppl you interview do. Creds to both of you!
Well, well well look at this!? My two favourite UA-camrs in the same video? Haha, Nice interview and I love the way you'd filmed and edit the introduction of Pat at the start. Good on you mate :D

Great interview of Pat. Like how Pat opens up. I'll be checking out more of your videos. Next time I drop down to BKK I'm going to look you up Pat and have coffee and lunch along with a good chat.
Nice one Richard
I love Pat's channel, but I feel there's some gaps in this story. The channel indicates he joined in 2013, yet the videos go back only a year. On top of that there's a lot of great production values in terms of editing and presentation of both video and audio. On top of all that, the historic information with supporting photos and video. Care to offer a part two of this interview? 🙂
I remember Bangkok in 1990 too,.so exotic and friendly, the world was a different place and.so.was Thailand, extremely cheap living in those days too
From what I hear it was super cheap
@@ThairishTimes A dollar for a lunch and a beer back then, enjoy
Interesting stuff and honest. It's good that the vloggers connect like this too. United in curiosity. Good luck to y'all. 🌱🌅🌲
It is indeed, Pat is a top fella
Fascinating on the search for family history. My Mother did extensive geneology work for years. I have bins of her hard copy documents that were meticulous.
I was a cop for nearly 30 years (yes, I am from Chicago....lol). I have never seen an investigative case (fille) that comes close to what Mom put together. It still amazes me the work she put into that. Most extensive "family history" case I have ever seen. Absolutely remarkable. Would make Marcel Guillaume blush.
Sounds like she would have made a great detective. So any Irish blood in you?
Hot Seat with Pat! Happy to see you retuning the favor! Also great to hear Pat talking about himself, he’s just as interesting as the city he narrates 😎
cheers mate, Pat is certainly an interesting fella
Great interview, came across as very heartfelt. Didn't know Pat's channel before. Will go there and sub now.
Thanks Kobis, Pat's a great fella
