I went to my last rave in 2002. I was 27. I had been raving since 1994. I feel nostalgic. Watching this now at 50, dancing all alone in my living room.
So proud to say I was there, 16 with my parents (they were old school ravers) A water cooler sized bottle filled with vodka and redbull, nothing but pure love, happiness and dancing with strangers. A memory I’ll never forget.
What an absolute legend he is- walks up in a floral shirt, does a silly pose and immidiately starts handing out bangers like its nobodys business, with a goofy smile on his face. Cool, fun, energetic, and humble, while being an absolute living legend of electronic dance music. Saw him live almost a decade ago and he was bringing the very same energy!! Absolute fookin legend, no doubts about it.
FBoy Slim proves it’s not the technique, it’s the playlist. No pride, no chip on the shoulder, just make everyone have fun! I’m 5 years too young for the opportunity to attend this one, but there are no events like these anymore. It’s either a pill or you have no business being there. There were some gigs reminding me of this one when I was a loose 20 years old lad, with SHM, etc. And it all went away by the time I was 28, and I mean these “everyone can enjoy it” kind of events, like SHM etc. I saw FBS once more in MonteNegro after exit, he totally caved to the pilled up crowd with electro and techno, I almost cried. These performances were The Rolling Stones of our time, and it was just plain f’n fun, for literally everyone. And right now that’s sold as a bad thing. I know there are people in the comment section seeing what I’m seeing.
My parents got married on this day, the reception was at a hotel overlooking Brighton beach, I was too young (11) to fully appreciate the magic of it at the time but I remember it being a crazy scene.
Proud to say I was there at the tender young age 18. Me and my best friend travelled over 300 miles by train with a hearty breakfast of vodka and orange.
This is so iconic. He walks through the crowd to get to the stage, he's waving to people in the crowd, there's a kid with a frisbee at one point. A different era.
Due to the far higher than expected attendance the local authorities were severely underprepared, which led to many incidents including two deaths, over 170 injuries, and six arrests.
@@takemebacktothen a fat hot blond brod is pulled out.... She looks dead to me the incidents happen because of a massive free show! love parade is dead dance valley is dead
Young Croat, working in UK those days, decided to go to that concert in the morning that very day, catch a train from London to Brighton…. Standing in the sea with six pack of beer in my backpack! Awesome concert! Lifetime memories! 💪
Smartphones have destroyed festival culture. Moments like this will never occur again due to people being more concerned with appearing to be having a good time rather than actually enjoying the moment. We are the last generation of the golden festival years.
they weren't using smartphones not because it was better not using them, but because smartphones were still 10 years away. Should Steve Jobs had come up with the iPhone ten years before, you would see plenty of smartphones there.
I grew up in Brighton & was 15 years old when I was running around the beach at this epic event. Crazy to think how different the world was in 02. Norman played again on Brighton beach last year, albeit on a much lesser scale, but I went just because when Fatboy Slim plays Brighton beach, you fucking go. And it was amazing. Thanks for the memories, Norman.
Wow! What a coincidence! So was i! This was sort of my 15th bday gift! Lol! I was in an ESL holiday trip for 3 weeks in Brighton, staying at the university dorm, when this happened and i was thrilled! The English course + the trip was my birthday gift (other than a “sweet 16 party”). My parents almost died when they saw it in the papers in Brazil the next day! This concert is by far the 2nd best event of my life (1st being my wedding)!
I have lived here my whole life and this is single handedly the greatest night of my life. This video gave me chills and brought back some incredible memories. Thank you Norman, you have a special place in my heart
Me too. I know Norman from Reigate days. The club "On the Rocks" He came in one day, maybe christmas time, when he was getting famous lol. I could have done that! I could have been a dj lol. Norman does it amazingly.
I would put this only second to the Date with Destiny DJ Battle - Fatboy Slim vs. Armand Van Helden. The especially made for the night Satisfaction Skank bootleg Norman made for the night and back2back parts of the battle specifically. Legendary
20 лет назад казалось что это странный раскрученый бренд в электронной музыке, не представляющий ничего интересного и цепляющего... Так вот не казалось, так и есть... редкое свойство для Британского музыканта.
In reference to western culture and coming from a westerner, it's hard to comprehend how things have changed. This time capsule brings a lot of thoughts to mind and there is a lot to unpack, such as the lack of police/power enforcement, heterogeneous in fashion/dance styles; I think the most common thought that comes to my mind is how free people appear relative to people being the robots we see today
Oh if only I'd been at this party. 250k people having a bloody good time, no phones, no selfies, no filming the whole set on your phone....take me back to these times!!
A night to never forget... July 13th 2002 the day Brighton beach came to a standstill... And I was there...!!! No smart phones or social media... Just the beach, fat boy slim and 250000 souls enjoying themselves to the fullest 🎉❤
I remember this. At the time I had no idea how big it was going to be. I met my friend after work who I fancied and we got the bus in. We met a few other friends in Brighton. Must have been the afternoon. I was pretty wasted by the time the set started. Somehow I was near the front. I remember dancing until night. Don’t remember much else except everyone was friends that night.
This was the day Ibiza came to England. Probably the best gig that this country has ever seen. Blazing hot sunshine all day and party goers from everywhere in the country. Remains to this day, the best day out I ever had. Mad to think this was over 20 years ago. Was 3 days after my 20th birthday
@@williambirch-james78 Watching the Brighton Beach docu on Sky, *someone* had a camera phone that they used the night after… although the camera was terrible, mind you, and it probably had like 500mb of storage so there’d be no point filming the thing. …Which is a crying shame. You can’t get a good vibe of the crowd in 12 different jumpcuts a minute. Are there any good bootlegs from within the crowd out there?
Some people will never, ever, realize the importance and the meaning they bring into the life of others. I love the UK, I LOVE Norman and I freakin LOVE Brighton from the bottom of my heart!! Best time I had in m life, My friends, the freedom, my youth... limitless. I am blessed!
I was 15 at this time. The internet wasn't a thing yet. There were no mobile phones. Human interaction was still pure and real. now we are all to sucked into our phones. I'm proud to be part of the generation who expierenced this all for the last time.
The internet was a thing, but not like today. We were using MSN messenger on our computers when we got home and sending emails even to friends…. But text messages were expensive and phones only had space for about 10 messages on the memory 😂
Outdoors, vinyl, an artist with raw talent and gift, a set from outer space, everybody focussed on the moment, not on the phone or her/his reel - it doesn´t get any better!
This is really making me miss the days of going into the club, posting up next to the DJ booth, and watching the DJ work their magic and digging through crates for the perfect record for the next track. I certainly appreciate the new technologies that have come since then (first with CDJs and now controllers), but there was something so pure about vinyl sets.
Most of the dj’s I see when I go raving are on vinyls,it is what makes me appreciate the music so much more, seeing the talent, skill, knowledge they have is crazy and there are some very good selectors out there still
Not only is this one of the most insane sets, this is oen of the best videos of a concert you will ever see. Well done to camera man and editors. Top tier.

I am very lucky to say I was there!, will never forget the beach vibrating, it was a sea of people dancing,on the beach, promenade spread all over town in the end, epic isn't an enormous enough word for this show !
Never went but my sister and her friends did. I stayed at home and watched it on the telly. But it's great to watch again. Takes me back, 1998 to 2006 were my best days. Music and the nightclubs were amazing back then. Was lucky enough to be able to DJ from 2003 to 2016. Was hard to keep on with it all when I started a family.
Funny, I grew out of night clubbing 1984, saw the housematins twice back then, great to follow him and all the rest since. Moved to Canada 1990 so first time a view.
So nice to see people enjoying and experiencing the moment instead of holding up a cell phone. Events like this should be EXPERIENCED in the moment, not missed because you are holding a phone and watching a small screen!
I had moved to Brighton to be with a girl. Living in the city just a few months when this happened. We went to the sea front around 1pm and were right near the front. We could feel how epic this was going to be as the crowds just went on as far as the eye could see. It was one of those beautiful golden sunset days in England, we don't get many. When Norman came out the whole city just erupted in a frenzy. The next morning there were people sleeping in the streets, rubbish billowing down every road. It was party carnage. But oh my it was worth it. This DVD was on in the background of every house party we had for years after. Thank you for the memories. Incredible!
I bought this DVD at a bookstore in Kansas, USA in 2002. I watched the DVD so many times, the spindle from the player broke the DVD in the center. It still never gets old… ever. I wish like hell I could have been a part of the mayhem but I’m so grateful it was recorded, and made into a damned fine production! Cheers to everyone involved that made this iconic event happen, and for Norman dumping so much of his own money into it after sponsors backed out! Legends all!
@@KudzuDigital Ha! That is a small world. I think it’s been closed for quite a while. Then a Hobby Lobby went in after it, or perhaps the Hobby Lobby was next to it?
I remember a warm day then a freezing night, we couldn’t get on the beach we were up on the promenade which gave a great view. When he played Groove Armada Superstylin, anyone who was sitting down suddenly jumped up and the beach suddenly resembled a Mexican wave the way the bodies moved. I remember “GO WITH THE FLOW OF THE CROWD” on repeat at the end, and walking to the train station to find all the trains were off due to overcrowding. Then sleeping on a strangers floor and heading back to London in the morning. What an epic adventure and god bless Fatboy Slim ❤
One of the most memorable days of my life. The build up to this event was monumental. It had been a long and cold winter and this Saturday marked the first warm day in many months. Diggers and Midi General warming up and a period of all-time classic tunes produced collided to make it a concert that will be talked about for many more decades. ❤❤
@@JohnSmith-iu8cj I think you're both on drugs lol I went to this event and it was awful. It was supposed to be for 10,000 people yet 500,000 turned up. Everywhere sold out of drink, couldn't get into any of the clubs and 90% of the crowd couldn't hear a thing as they were soo far from the music. Other than the weather it was the worst day out ever! It then took me 12 hours to get home
Thankfully I was lucky enough to be present for this awesome event. I'll never forget how amazing is was, seeing numptis hanging off of street lights simply lovin' the vibe was the next level. Not a mobile phone in sight, the days of proper partying.
I was late teens in 2002 so saw some great DJ's and venues in other genres over the years when everything was at it's peak still, but I cannot imagine being at this gig, must've been epic! Makes me so nostalgic for the way the music scenes used to be. I know there is good music being made still and emerging genres and new artists in house etc, just sad that they don't have the venues and stuff to to play in like those that went before.
@@Kompoismagreed. I started partying in 2000 at age 19…got out of the scene years ago. Recently got back into it and went to EDCO 2023 and it was a blast. I’m a trance head and sadly, trance is mostly dead (you could argue that actually happened back in mid 2000s) but man is House music making a huge comeback. Tech house is amazingly fun to dance to live. Dom Dolla is an old school type DJ. Doesn’t talk hardly ever, his mixes are solid and track selection is on point. Cheers
When I was just listening to electronic music, my brother bought me the DVD and I kept dancing to it in my room in the dark, I closed my eyes and imagined I was there.

Smartphones have destroyed festival culture. Moments like this will never occur again due to people being more concerned with appearing to be having a good time rather than actually enjoying the moment. We are the last generation of the golden festival years.
So true.
they weren't using smartphones not because it was better not using them, but because smartphones were still 10 years away. Should Steve Jobs had come up with the iPhone ten years before, you would see plenty of smartphones there.
