Thanks for watching!
Here’s a thought: make another board exactly the same size as your long thin countertop and use the piano hinge to attach it to the other one. When you need a little bit more table space you can open it up and then close it we’re not needed.
Great idea!
Piano hinges are pretty common in the van life community so I'm guessing if she doesn't have it, she didn't want it.
Thank you! It’s incredibly helpful to have the BUILDER interviewed, not just the person who is showing off their rig. For new nomads with a shell of a rig who don’t have the physical ability to do their own build, it’s terribly frustrating to not know which builders come highly recommended and which are fly-by-night. All the Big Names are booked up YEARS in advance.
Perfect… best part is that its lightweight and will save fuel. I absolutely love it. It’s a Frugal, Minimalist build!
I love that her build is not typical. It is a great example that there are lots of ways to make one’s nomad life work. ❤️🙏❤️
I love this build. I have had pickup campers before and the bed across the back has always worked well for me. I traveled with my son and he slept on the "upper bunk" and I slept on the bed on the floor. Just about exactly the same as you have it here. The pickup here is exactly what I have been hoping to find in the near future. Having the option to sleep in the cab is definitely a plus for safety . Thanks for sharing.
I really appreciate how clean and uncomplicated this truck build turned out. Nice work.
I agree.
I remember Linda’s interview with Bob when she had her suv and small utility trailer; she had her sewing machine so she could quilt! As a quilter, I was happy to see she could sew and work on quilts.
I live the “van life” vicariously thru all the van dwellers..and other nomads. We prob waited too long to pull this off. But we enjoy following this channel and have for years.
It's never too late! Don't give up on your dreams!
Great job! I love that she listened to what was wanted. Also it’s wise to build as you go and find a need for something. 👍💕
Now, with the trailer there are 3 places to hangout and or sleep! This is a great use of space! Nomadic versatility!! I like it very much!
Love the build. Yes, rounded corners are the way to go!
Absolutely, hard corners really hurt
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like this a lot!! I’m not one for the fancy pretty spaces - I love this functional and very personalized space.
I really like the bed in the back of the cab. Smart design
Snowbird season is here! Happy Holidays yall
This build makes so much more sense than all of the other right angle builds. So much more practical.
Love seeing Linda’s home for the off road trips ❤❤
This is good. First of all, the young lady is doing all she can to do things the way the other lady wants it done. This I have seen with a lot of young people. I`m older than the other lady, so I`ll just call her the other lady. She knows what she wants. I would like to see updates on both of them. Both are smart.
I don’t like to be negative and do believe that as long as you’re satisfied with your build, that’s the only thing that really matters. In my builds over the years I have made sure that I can just leave this sleeping or living area jump behind the wheel and go. Without a lip or some other method of securing things you have to spend time shoring or moving everything on the shelves every time you switch from driving to camping or vice versa. Going from a tired day of driving straight to my bed or straight to my food prep or bathing, whatever I have to do, makes my living so much better. Simplicity is great. Minimalism is wonderful but I can’t see how she holds things on the shelves when she’s driving, it looks to me like she’s going to have to secure or pack. everything or unsecure or unpack everything depending on what her needs are. Again I don’t wanna be negative about anybody, but I just find it so much better. to go through less steps in breaking up camp and setting up camp. I’d like to hear what others have to say about this. I wish both of those ladies, the best nomad life they can find. God bless the nomads, all of them.
I was thinking exactly the same thing. Going off road without more security for keeping things in place might be tough.
Awesome job Anya!
She not only has a great sense of space and detail but she is great at the actual building! I 2nd the "Awesome job Anya".
Anya's got a mindset regarding building out a space, I can relate to. I love simple, easily used, open organization in a small space. It's a challenge that attracts those of us that were the smallest kid playing hide & seek that also loves to make things.
Nice work on the build. I know this is what Linda wanted but I could not be on my knees as much as this truck bed build will require. I had a Ford Ranger with a factory shell, not a hi-topper, it was the same height as the cab. When I camped in that I used a cot that happened to span the wheel well perfectly and the height was just above the wheel well, so I had about 12" of storage underneath. But the best thing about this was that I could sit completely upright on that cot. I could never have used it if I'd had to crouch or be seated on the floor all the time. If that becomes a problem she may consider lowering the bed platform and see if she can sit up on it that way. Yes, some under-bed storage space will be lost but being able to sit upright is so important for the back.
Thanks Bob. They're both such nice ladies. They did a great job on this truck.
Love it! Kudos to Anya, love that she understands what you want. To me that’s very important! I have been going back n forth as to what vehicle to get n the fact that Linda put the bed in the cab feels very safe! Thank you!
Never give up on your dreams, y'all! Keep moving forward!
Wow! I like the simple, helpful Teamwork of this truck bed build out. Simple, Minimal, Fully functional.
I have a Chevy Silverado Z71 xcab and a 6' bed length. I have sliding windows in my truck and canopy, in case I need to avoid getting out of my truck bed to get into the truck. I reused mostly pallets to build my sleeping platform. And I did buy a piece of half inch plywood for the bed . I bought some Varathane and painted it to protect the wood. I bought some paint to cover the bed frame. My Dad helped me with cutting the plywood for the bed and helped with the bed frame too. My Dad was very helpful with measurements of the windows so that we could cut the Reflectix for the windows covering.
I have foam bedding wrapped in a King size sheet, blankets. And the plywood lifts up and I have a prop board so I can have access to the storage totes. I have also been given a window box from my Momma for the other side of the truck bed. It will store essentials for the me. My truck bed is spray lined and I also have a rubber floor mat and rugs that my Momma hand knit. The rugs are warm and also helps me on my knees in the back of my truck bed.
It's a nice and cozy place. I've spent 6 days on the coast camping in the winter. It was comfortable inside and when I went outside it was frosty outside. The carpet lined canopy, Reflectix, and other insulation works for me.
I like your truck bed camping build, it's very nice .
Take care,Happy Camping and safe travels 😊🏜🏕🌄🏞🏔⚘🧭🕊
I'm disabled and so the help from my parents was greatly appreciated.
My gosh, this is great and she has three different choices for a bed!
Congratulations Linda 🎊. Anya did exactly what you wanted. Made for adventure ✨️
This gave me ideas for my own truck.
Simple, thoughtful build. Well done all!
Very clever build. I like the idea of a sleeping bed down the middle of the truck bed with storage compartments on each side. I wonder what the interior width is of the truck bed might be. 8-foot truck beds are difficult to find and for us 6 footers nearly impossible to sleep sideways. Bob, thanks for demonstrating another way to live mobile.
The width of the pickup is about 6 ft. Most pickups are. The 8 ft bed for length is nice.
Awesome! Like the simplicity of her build is just right for her needs making her feel peacefully safe and happy!
Anya is a very kindhearted lady.
I’ve been watching you forever Bob my daughter years ago said mom I always would wonder what that intro music was years ago she must of been 13 or so now she’s almost 19 years old. It took her a few years before she finally asked mom what the heck are you watching for all these years. The intro has changed but your still our same ole buddy Bob. A lot of you UA-camrs are family to us who can’t get around for lack of money or mobility issues please know it means so much to us all just wanted to say hi Bob happy holidays thanks ❤❤❤
Been living in the back of my 2001 Ford Ranger Edge 4x4 off and on since losing my job, home and savings from the 2008 planned recession. The topper is aluminum so it gets pretty loud when raining. I have a wooden rectangular box (1 foot x 3 foot) that acts as a storage bin and a table. Sleeping quarters are tight but I'm a "shorty" so it works out fine. There's so many options you can build for yourself to make it comfortable. Nice to see others creating their home away from home comfy spots.:-) Loved this video!! Thanks.
Bob you are such a great man.! I love you.
Excellent simple build and probably more affordable than most bigger projects ✅
Clever use of space 👌
Two strong, independent, intelligent, beautiful women! What a powerful message!!!❤❤❤
I'm building an old ram 4x4 with a campershell. 6 ft short bed ,single cab , cab and camper has sliding windows ,so i can crawl from back to front if I need to leave fast .Big mud tires ,chopped fenders and bumpers . Factory lift .
Kinda baja style bugout, boondocking rig . Thanks for the ideas . Safe travels.
I love the simple build. It might help to answer some questions if you do a more detailed video. Like how is the stuff held in place when moving?
Amazing!🙂
Well done!!
In the back of the truck, what keeps the loose stuff on the shelves from flying all over the place? How does sleeping in the back of the cab "with the windows rolled up" allow for ventilation to keep condensation from coating the insides of the windows?
Love it!
Awesome!
Fantastic!
Chalk up another vanlife option and for fine folks who have it together and make it work :)
I enjoy watching your videos! Thank you All!
I've considered doing something of the sort, making a van area inside, a garage & possibly a sleep area along w/it!
Lovely ladies! 🥰
This is great. Very neat. Thanks Bob for the video
Good Job Anya ! That's a nice build ! Looks like you've got the knack for that stuff, cheers to you
Hi bob you did it again. Super video. Love it. Love you cody brian howa and everyone. Thanks for everything. A big fan jan from texas.
Great ideas! Well done. When camping in my Prius I also use a stainless steel dog bowl. Super helpful when height is a problem.
Wow, what a great build. With a trailer as your home base what more would you need. Well I do backpack so maybe my standards are not the norm. Thank you for sharing this rig.
Very nice. Great use of space while keeping security in mind.
I wonder if Anya could go over how she attached the Shelf on the passenger side of the back over the wheel well?
That would be really helpful. I'm guessing she has the top shelf on the rails she installed and legs underneath for support, probably attached with L brackets, but who knows.
Awesome build, and Wonderful video. Thank you. Simple is best, usually. And this was simply perfect. Great job. Congrats on your new truck set up.
Hi Linda, I am about to do this in my truck! Thank you for sharing your build.
Great design!
I love everything about it.
Good job! If you could make a follow up video to see if there were changes and how is she liking this build, it would be great. Thanks for sharing.
UR ABSOLUTELY RIGHT NO MATTER WHAT VEHICLE U HAVE MOST OF THE TIME U COULD MAKE IT WORK.....
IVE BEEN LIVING IN MY VEHICLES FOR CLOSE TO 15YRS NOW, ALL DIFFERENT TYPES, I STARTED IN A VAN THEN A BOX TRUCK TO A SHUTTLE BUS AND NOW IM IN A 27 FOOT 35YR OLD RV IVE BEEN IN THE RV FOR AROUND 9 MONTHS.....
I LOVE THE RV BUT IT ONLY GETS 5 TO 6 MPG SO NOW IM SAVING TO GET EITHER A VAN OR A 18 FOOT LONG BOX TRUCK, BOX TRUCKS ARE MY FAVORITE SO THATS WHAT IM GOING FOR OR MAYBE IF I COULD FIND ONE A FORD E 250 WITH A HIGH TOP......
Aloha Bob Kika here. The last two April & October BYOV as a volunteer has inspired me to do buildouts to offer up for sale. I spent the whole month (November 2022) gutting out and rebuilding for a fellow October volunteer’s 6x12 utility van right here on my 2acre property. I also offered up my 5th wheel for this person to live in while I did the build. It was customized to what was wanted and needed to make it much easier to live in. Weight distribution was the main concern for this build. I own a few box vans, cars and utility trailers that I plan to start with. My questions are: what is most important to focus on in these build? One of my idea is to focus on a full size shower/toilet area with hot & cold running water. Inside and or outside cooking area. That one will probably be built in the large Snap On Tool truck that I have in the back. I also have the Fear Factor truck that was used to film some of the series. That will be converted as well. I have PT cruiser to 4x4 trucks that I will be converting. So feedback would help me better decide how to design these build outs. I think that I will create a UA-cam channel specifically to ask Nomads questions on what they would like to see for their custom frugal to extra nice buildouts. Mahalo.
Well that's a pretty cool way to set one up. I'm hoping to get out y'all's way hopefully sometime this summer I'll try and find out where you are Bob. I'm in the process of doing a reverse mortgage, that way I'll still have a home base at least until I die and none of the grandkids won't the place so why shouldn't I get the money now and so once I get my build done I will hit the road to see people I haven't seen in years. And my younger years I walked all the way across the United States so I met a few people during that Trek. That was a pretty good build and I'm very impressed with it and it gives me some ideas. Thanks for the video look forward to more. Y'all stay vigilant now you hear!
I have seen trucks with a custom pass through to the bed of the truck ( it’s a cutout where the back window is and lower .. a gasket is used to connect/finish the hole.. I’m considering this if I decide on the truck life 🚚
My two dogs would be able to pass through my back window but not me. I'm considering a van.
One I have seen is "The Breezer."
Great video!
This is beautiful.
Love this interview.
Dont be surprised if your gas mileage is better with the topper. I used one for my dogs, could use the back cab window to give them treats. 👍👍
Love it ❤ Fantastic.,neat and well organized. Can see 2 Persons livingin it. One sleeping in the back and another in the front. If there was a way to knock the glass out that separate the camper from the back seat. Guess that may not be vehicle legal
Another thing about nomadic life is the fact that you can leave and take your home with you if you find yourself in the middle of some sort of disaster.
I just hope youre not alone out there??. If something malfunctions?...i totally get everything about your story! Everything..e sick when you need to be....people dont usually get this...i do!!❤
Great job ladies! I'd like to see what Anya did to her van. Is it showcased anywhere?
Aloha from Hawaii! Thanks for the useful information 🤙✌
This turned out nice!!
Enjoyed & learned .thanks
Helping someone is good for your soul
Thank you for the video. Blessings to you.
Good for you! Too many people stuff their vehicles with crap they're not really gonna use. Stay safe.
Awesome stuff right here !
Nicely done.
Cool
I'm looking forward to connecting with Anya!
vanlife4ever!
This is a pickup that sleeps three comfortably!!
Would like to see Onia'''s personal build.
🔥
Hea bob _Linda you and others can make a pass thru on a pick up truck surely in ca. The low rider cumunity used to do it all the time. And there's a rubber boot that seals it off probably for not much money either check in to it for your viewers it would make a great video also looking forward to seeing it my son used to do it to his and friends here in ohio thanks.
I traveled across country in a camper shell
Absolutely love it! What size propane tank is that?
👍🏻👍🏻
Yippee
Have you done a review of her trailer? I would like to know if vintage trailers are worth trying out, or if they are money pits. :-)
❤😊
🧙❣️🤣
How do you find videos on what people do all day while living in a caravan or solo? Never really can find this info. Thanks
I'd trade trailer for small camper you can get from front to back and vise versa through window your small enough.
Do you know a good resource for finding remote/computer jobs that can be done on the road? I don't mean highly trained technical jobs, but jobs that can be done online remote? Thank you!!
I'm wondering if Linda will be selling her vintage trailer.
How is it possible to put the bolts with the 2" boards on the side of the vehicle on a no visibly of that?
