I love that early dialogue... "I wonder how he died." Giant rat appears. "Oh..."
xDDD
Love it when you get animal party members that aren’t just glorified item storage
"I got to beat a guy with a chain and they gave me a dog." Sounds like game of the year, right there.
4:05 When he walked into the fog I said, "Oh sh*t! He's gonna end up in Ravenloft!" 😂
Missed opportunity to call the dog "Splatterdog"
Throws me back to the early 90's playing RPG's on my Amiga 500+ this one hits me right in the nostalgias! Defo gonna pick this up :D
Haha, the tunic dad joke caught me completely unaware! 🤣
I about lost it when you put that last point in agility. This man is unstoppable, you never know what he's going to do next!
You had me at "Dog joins the party"
Splat's fight encounter music was epic! I need a full soundtrack of it now!
You know he was just doing a different games battle music right
I grew up in the 80's-90's..... this was an easy sell to me! I cant wait to get lost in the caves, battling rats and bats and looting the finest of 8 bit treasures!
Same here brother. I picked this one up (only $10!) and man oh man has it not disappointed.
HIya @coryroberts7519 Just curious if you ever ended up playing it? If you did, did you enjoy it? Popped up on my recommends. Cheers!
Man this looks so old school and great.
Bought the game after Splats first combat. This game is already great, but the dedication of the dev will make this something unique. When I bought the game yesterday, it did not have quick save/load function. Today it has.
It's very reasonably priced at $9.99 - They'll get my support just for that alone!
Not only is this game gorgeous, it also has so many cool little features and good dialogue. Nice.
How on Earth do you think this is gorgeous. looks like the worst graphics i've seen in well OVER 20 years. that makes it the 20,000th most gorgeous game, out of 20,000
@@andyeban who the fuck let grandpa on the internet again?
@@andyeban If you can't understand what he's saying, nobody can help you. There are pixel games, and there are pixel games that go the extra mile graphically. They aren't all treated equally.
The shaders, the free movement, the ability to tell whatever is. The crisp GUI. All pixels. I'd assume you were a teenager from that response who grew up only with 3D games.
@@ItIsYouAreNotYour I understand what he is saying perfectly. Thats why I am correcting him, as he is wrong
@@majingumby568 Why, how old are you? 12?
omg a game that isn't just 'this is a book about magic", you can actually read them, +10 points to 'Caves of Lore'
Ultima-like + turn-based combat, of course it's an instant buy
Rpgcodex thinks so
Dragon Age Origins also proposed a dog as party member. On each map it could pee in a certain spot to get area alpha dominance and subsequent buffs for fighting. Funny...
Lol, I was thinking 'Woofer' or 'Scratchy Ears' but I guess 'KidneyRipper' is also adorable? 😂
kidneyripper is the best name anyone could give to a family doggo
I discovered caves of qud with your channel. I'm always excited when a game with caves comes on this channel... lol.
I love when you show RPG games. You find such great RPGs that most of them ended on my Steam account or in my wishlist :)
I watch your videos almost every day man. I've gone back and seen every one for years. This is my first 100% going to buy in months.
I feel like as I get older, and do more and more dev work myself, my interests slowly switch more and more towards weird niche passion projects, and further and further away from AAA. This game? This one seems like a very special, very niche, passion project. And I'm super into that. Also, I love Kidneyripper.
Gotta respect Splat's hustle. I feel like a lot of daily uploads on YT are too derivative or contrived to stand on their own as independent content. His formula that works well for the platform and manages to consistently produce useful content though. I've experienced the same thing as I get older, my interests have shifted from sprawling complex games to more self-contained projects which focus on executing a more straightforward idea over a shorter playtime. The Steamdeck has been real helpful for that.
@@zachb8012 man I want the steamdeck for these titles too, but I already have a nintendo switch that I never use :(
"Maybe I should have used that perception skill back at the chest we couldn't get to"
*doesn't go back to the chest*
Ahh, Splatty, never change. 🤣
Thanks for this one Splatt, picked it up and loving it.
From like 22' onwards games I've seen on your channel make up over 50% of my steam buys
Another gem that I've found because of you! Cheers bro.
Crazy how much I appreciate a really nice looking map. Never would have seen this game without you, so thanks a million, looks like one I'll definitely pick up
Pretty neat looking game. All I can remember from Ultima was stealing people's stuff, occasionally getting caught and chased by guards, and the huge taverns.
I love the art style in this game. Fun nostalgic feelings and all that.
Keep the 16bit roguelike, and oldschool indie games coming! I actually purchased a few of the ones you have highlighted not too long ago and i am looking forward to getting endless dungeon
Kitty kitty.
This takes me back to the recurring nightmare that was kings quest 3 back when I was a wee lad.
A dog as a party member? Ahem. Dogmeat ring any bells? Does look kind of fun.
This game looks amazing! Reminds me of so many early RPGS, but with some modern mechanics. Diving right in, and way fun!
One of your best video's Cattersplat I really enjoyed it. This game has many nice touches I shall acquire it as soon as I can. Thanks.
16:30
For a fraction of a second I thought it quite overpowered to summon the Bat-Family.
And then I realized my weirdness.
This game is delightful!
Bought it, deep into it - absolute gem. Old school RPG that require you to engage with it's content - be that spells or lore to progress and explore further.
I really like how when the dog is in the lead it holds the light in its mouth. I'd really like to see what the next dungeon or adventure or whatever it has for this game. It looks like it if had a good story it could be worth looking into.
Atacking from behind enemies do get a bonus but only if your weapon have backstab, daggers for example
I love this game and I would love to have you stream this later tonight. Here's hoping I see you there ^_^
The narrative about cats, pussy will lead you down into a dark pit of despair.
Being flanked is definitely a thing! That one character you had "tanking" the rats (Rydar?) just has a trait that makes him immune to flanking.
"apparently that rat had some life savings on him"
HAD is the operative word. LOL
This game is just oozing with charm... Kudos devs!
Really good stuff mate!
Looks nice a polished. Going to give it a try. Thanks!
"Oh, a tunic... which is little bit worse than a threenic but way better than a onenic" is such an amazing dad joke that is being woefully underappreciated by the comment section.
"...taking a deuce on a ley-line..." ... I had a mouth full of wine and nearly spray coated my monitor and wall.
Great Episode As Always.
I always hate it when I see a cat and it's just there to lure me into a deep dark hole. Every time that happens I can't believe I fell for it again.
Dear lord that was awful.
I take exception to this implicit cat/dog commentary! I want both in my party. Looks like a great game, though. Love the lighting and shadow effects.
It's like if it's Kings Quest and The Bard's Tale had a baby. Super sexy minimal pixel work too.
This looks like a cool indie game with a classic look
Reminds me of the old game "Times of Lore" we played back on an old Apple II.
20:05 "First thing I always do when I am in a dungeon is take somebody's meat."
Ok, you do you I guess...
Kidneyripper cracked me up! 😁
"Dog Increased In Hand-To-Hand Combat"
They really should rename it as Paw-To-Paw just for him
this looks pretty good!
Love the look of the game and how it plays
Genuinely great looking game!
Fun Fact . Paladins originate from the Order of Pallas , which is where Palliative Care comes from . Paladins are often Hospitallers and Templars who protect people on roads and in hospices .
#ProjectStrix #MarineMechanics
Not true. Paladins, also called the Twelve Peers, are twelve legendary knights, the foremost members of Charlemagne's court in the 8th century. The earliest recorded instance of the word paladin in the English language dates to 1592, in Delia (Sonnet XLVI) by Samuel Daniel. It entered English through the Middle French word paladin, which itself derived from the Latin palatinus, ultimately from the name of Palatine Hill - also translated as 'of the palace' in the Frankish title of Mayor of the Palace.
.... its a Codex huh....wait whats that sound?
"Hears ultramarine chanting in the wind"
Oooh nooo.
Was not in mood for this type of game or design but smells much better then expected
Everything into agility, oh yeah i can hit you, but you will never hit me
Wow! Like this game! thanks for the review!!!
Regards from Tabasco, México [Land of The Olmecs]!
Not even to the end of the video and I have already purchased the game. Not again lol. Damn it Splatt
This game looks pretty sweet!
looks actually reall cool
This has huge goldbox vibes, sweet!
Looks sorta cool and interesting, but nothing compared to the wonderful combat soundtrack you put in Splat, lol.
Tunnel moss rules! Yeah!
Love the game. Just got it 😊
We'll call the movie adaptation "The Misadventures of Splat and Kidneyripper!"
It'll be a hit among the dungeon dweller masses! Box Office, here we come!
I will buy this game. Thanks for showing this to us. 🙂👍
I'm going to pretend I just didn't hear that tunic joke 🤣
23:21 I did not know that, so thank you.
kidneyripper is an amazing dog name
"Let us find the sheep!"
You said all the things I wanted to hear in the first 30 seconds.
I dig a simple dungeon crawler. Another one for the Steam list!
It's not that simple, my friend!
Hey Splattercat, I know you rarely respond to comments but just in case: I was checking out the game on Steam and I noticed that the dev mentioned you in the patch notes for Jan 24th! 😆 Go take a look.
It had me at character creation. 👍
What's up Guys and Gals
Fellow guy and gal
- It's best to randomize your stats at the beginning, try to aim for all blue numbers with your two main stats being 17 ~ 18
- Always look the character's stats, and abilitys before deciding what weapon and armor they will use.
- Don't invest into the same skills that your other characters have, most of them don't even stack.
That hammer was 1-5 damage +4 because of your talents in hammer whacky smacky.
Play more please, game is awesome!
God I love these rad complex games you can virtually run on a ONE transistor GPU powered with the static from your sock.. in your face xvidia.
There's a discussion thread on Steam, full of people saying "Splat brought me here"! It's obvious that when Splat looks at a game, sales result. So keep up the good work, Splat!
There's also much more to this game than shown. Check enemies, and some are more damaged from the back or the side. So check new enemies before every battle! You can also change the party starting battle positions, you also get extra defence if staying still, which is why when a creature attacked, first time they usually miss or do zero damage! Also, you have to "use" magic in order to level up, so a fireball, when levelled up, allows use of the next higher fire spell, etc! Very deep game, just like cRPG's should be!
Only posted 5 minutes ago? You mean I have a chance to be recognized by splattercat?!
No
Sorry, but Splatty's said he doesn't read YT comments.
OTOH, you *could* join his Discord... 😁
Seems the stones on the left side of the UI do something, they disappear and come back over the course of the video
I don't know if the cat MEANT to lure you to fall in the cave...it looked as startled as you were.
Cat paws typed that post.
@@ianallen738 cat lobby 🤣
Looked more to me like the cat was startled by the bats flying out than the PC falling into the pit.
I would say that the developers of this game are, in mine opinion, lovers of Ultima VI &VII, from the system of game, the spell, and the butterfly at the beginning...before the fall, are the same also to the ultima 6 intro
ThankYou SirSpla77
Skill leveling is all I've ever wanted
I'm thinking about buying the android version. Came here to watch gameplay
Splat's Condensed Review: 30:33
"I fancy playing a guy that brutalizes the enemy in the face."
not i.
i prefer to brutalize the enemy in the left elbow.
that's just how i roll.
I'm picking this up when it gets Steam Deck verified.
Okay im sold, take my money give me this game
18:03 Missed Eminem opportunity.
