Years ago my wife and I had an old Kenmore washer that lasted us for years. When it finally died, we bought a Whirlpool neptune. That pile of junk lasted about 4 and a half years. Meh. Bo5 of my SQ washers lasted under 2 years before one was deemed unrepairable, and the other had to be almost completely rebuilt. They’re no better, in fact probably worse. I just got a pair of Maytag (WP) front loaders and they are awesome. If you’re looking for something very good in terms of cleaning and reliability, I’d look into an LG front loader
I had a chat with the SpeedQueen customer service team and I wanted to pass the information along to you. Apparently, there's been talk about making the bin on the front load larger, but unfortunately, nothing is in development yet. The representative I spoke to mentioned that it could take up to 10 years from today's date to develop a product like that, and they don't want to rush anything without proper testing and durability checks. So if you're thinking of getting one but are waiting for the bigger bin, the wait might be longer than you expect. In fact, it might be a good idea to go ahead and get one now instead of waiting for something that may not happen for years.
Is it true that you can’t have speed queens if your laundry room is upstairs? I was told American homes aren’t built to hold these strong motored washing machines. I really want one buy one (we don’t have cookie cutter house/it’s custom but how can i know for sure it will hold up there?
Question for ya. I have a speed queen washer.... Everytime I wash a load the lights keep blinking, The only way I can do another load is to unplug the machine and plug back in. What if anything am I missing and or not doing?
The Speed Queen TC5 is the only washer that I can recommend now-a sturdy design that will last much longer than the plastic junk that they are making now.
Errata-- the IC-embedded PCB is in the lower part of the unit near the front. The knob select has a breakout board connecting those, the lot of which is connected to the lower mainboard.
King size comforter fits in my Speed Queen TR5. The washer's agitator design methodology allows filling the washer's tub to the top and not damage fabrics. I constantly fill the tub up with towels. I don't see a need to have a large drum that would consume more water.
My Ugg King size comforter fits in my TC5 washer if I wrap it up a special way. I only wash it 1 time a year after the fall winter season, I also use the bulky setting.
When you need more water, put your cloths in and pour a gallon or two of water on em before you start the cycle. Adds more weight, thus higher tub fill. Been tricking my Samsung for ten years.
I bought my Speed Queen pair about ten years ago. It was the last of the non-computerized machines so we counted ourselves lucky. 15 year warranty on the transmission. While SQ has succumbed to the computers like everyone else, I’d still buy another SQ set before anything else. Costs twice as much, lasts five times as long. That’s good math.
I have a Roper Washer & Dryer that's still going strong. Both are high-capacity. I purchased them brand new in 2006. Paid $300 for each of them. My only complaint is that they're loud compared to the new technology. I've been considering a Speed Queen to replace them, but not sure how noisy those are, so that's how I found this page. I just think it's funny that everybody buy's SQ for their longevity when my cheap Roper's are still going strong after 18 years.
Speed Queen does sell a 'residential' (?) version of their laundromat washers. I bought one in about 2018 and its run without fail since that time. It cost $775 vs $550 for the basic washer at that time, worth the extra $$$, and you can tell where they swapped out the coin collector mechanism. Very few settings on it but its always worked great. As the saying goes "Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' ".
2:19 - As far as "the king sized comforter issue", I just wrap my king sized comforter around the agitator, cram it in there, and mash the "HEAVY SOIL" button to give it some extra action. I've been doing it this way in my Speed Queen washer for 3 years now with zero problems. I realize this isn't the most efficient way to get a comforter perfectly clean, but it sure beats going to some sketchy laundry mat. To compensate, I just do it more often than I did with my previous two GE extra capacity washers {which both developed fatal computer board problems after about 5 years). After all, I paid extra to have a speed queen washer specifically so it would be tough enough to withstand some harsh treatment. ***But that's just me. 😎 I'm not saying everyone should do it this way***
Yes, that works if you're careful. I used to do that with older machines with agitators BUT to avoid wear and stress on the motor AND your comforter (like the agitator rubbing repeatedly on the same spot) I'd use the gentle/delicate cycle, fill it to the top, top it off with buckets of water if necessary, only let it agitate for 5 min. Stop it and let it soak for 10 min, then open and rotate the blanket myself and punch it down, let it run for another few min, repeat, run, repeat, etc. Drain, do the same on rinse. I give it an extra spin cycle on 'spin only'. It may seem like a lot of work but saves on laundry mat costs and way easier than handwashing or wearing out the machine.
I bought one about 11 years ago. No regrets, that thing is a tank. It had one government water saving feature that it wouldn't let it fill to the top. Back then it had a very simple tweak to get around that. My wife loved having her first washer that didn't bounce around.
@@LiberatedMind1 No. There's an adjustment screw behind the load size knob. search youtube for SpeedQueen Washer Water Level Adjustment. There are several videos on it. I did it 12 years ago when I bought it. But that's that older model from about 2012 that didn't have the modern electronics.
@@LiberatedMind1 search SpeedQueen Washer Water Level Adjustment. It's an adjustment screw behind the water level knob. This is on the older models like mine from 2012. I doubt the newer computerized ones can do this.
I was at a appliance store that sells this Speed Queen model and he said if you set the washer on any setting besides the Normal Eco selection the washer will add more water. He said this washer has a 5 year parts and labor warranty…better than my Maytag that just died.
Computers are not inherently bad. I know it's a point of contention for a lot of people. But the alternative is electromechanical stuff, and moving parts wear out. Computers fail, too. Entropy will destroy everything. Anyway, my point is that if a computer is designed and programmed well, it will work for a long time. And they should be designed to be repairable, of course they often are not.

Have an older whirlpool electric washer and dryer!! Was having a problem with the final spin on the washer not spinning. Called appliance repair people and it would have been over 100 dollars just to come out and look at it!! Said no thanks and looked up on the internet what could be the problem. It said to try unplugging it for a couple of minutes than plug back in! Tried it and it worked!! Wonder what the repair people would have charged and if they would have ripped us off!!
Use a ZeroSurge unit on your washer (and dryer) and protect the board electronics. It is the only genuine surge protection device that doesn't use MOVs that will degrade and fail without notice rendering them useless after a few years or months. I have a two-outlet version protecting both my front load Speed Queen washer and Speed Queen Dryer. No problems. I didn't use one on my previous dishwasher and the board went bad, I added a ZeroSurge unit on my new Bosch dishwasher and have NO problems whatsoever after several years. (I have a third ZeroSurge on my home entertainment electronics and a fourth protecting my two laser printers). I am a longtime user of this product, and it works.
Got our SQ TC5 and matching SQ dryer recently after our "American" brand Maytag drove us crazy with the violent jumping around on spin cycle. Plus, it took almost an hour on the shortest cycle and never really cleaned the clothing that well. This time, we paid way up for the SQ. So far, it's been amazing. It's all done in 30 minutes, has a REAL agitator, we can open it at any point and after shutting the lid, doesn't need to start over or reprogram the computer, either. So SQ invites me to "review" the purchase. In their advertisements, they proclaim that they are made in America-Wisconsin. I know that many of the other, so called "American" washers and dryers are actually made in China. In my review, I point that out...that Speed Queen is made in America, by Americans, providing American jobs instead of China.......Speed Queen censored it. When I questioned them, they say that it's a "3rd party" that "moderates" the reviews. Cowards...and hypocrites. They seem ok to shout: Made in America! but if someone mentions the actual OTHER country that many of them are made, well that's just got to be censored. Love the machine, hate the politically correct bullshit
I bought a speed queen because of you. Now I understand-they are just like whirlpool/Maytag. I am so tired of this water Conservation when massive warehouse waste millions of gallons on water on their massive yards.
There no such thing as wasting water. Every drop of water that formed when the earth was created is still here. It’s called the hydrologic cycle, maybe the dumb government needs to open a 4th grade textbook.
What i want to is why they are implementing a stupid hardline solution to a "problem" not everyone has. I have a well and a septic its not aquifer water so tell me what difference it makes if I use 1 gallon or 100 gallons. Its going right back into the land
At the end of the day, I also want to wash my own clothes in my own washing machine. I don't want to fight over washing machines and dryers at the laundromat. I went thru enough of that in the past about whose turn it is to go next. I don't want someone else's animal hair and gunk on my clothes. These machines are not sanitized between uses. I want a huge drum and to be able to also wash my queen sized comforters. I don't have a Speed Queen but I have an Electrolux front loader. It's so far so good. I'm also sick of government regulations. I'm willing to use and pay for a little bit more water to get cleaner clothes. The government think they are doing us a favor. Too many of us know how to circumvent the system and getting our washers to add more water anyway. They regulate shower heads to washing machines and everything else between. The government can be a freakin' curse at times. They need to mind their own business. This is why I'm for smaller government! They overstep too much!
Just go to a 24 hour laundromat, and go at 3:30 am. You have the entire place to yourself (besides a homeless crackhead sleeping on the floor). It’s pretty fun actually.
One of my personal life missions is to remove as many flow restrictors from faucets and shower heads as possible. When I visit friends, I leave them with better showers.
No new appliance is built to last anymore. That old refrigerator you have in your garage will still be running long after the new one you just bought is complete junk. You can still buy appliances without a lot of electronics but as you said, they’re harder to find. TVs used to last for decades. And they used to be serviceable. Now they’re cheap throwaway items that last for a few years and you just buy a new one.
Yep, it's the "let's build obsoletism into brands so we can fleece the public and fill our pockets" entity. There are strong movements against this in Europe -- something the sheeple need to get on to here.
What is being a bad steward with water ? It's just more control over things you can have and use. You know it as well as I do and anybody with eyes to see
I have a Speed Queen washer & dryer, bought in 2022..washer works great but there is a buzzing noise ( it’s a relay on the computer board on the left hand side of the drum ) that hums / buzzes when then dryer is totally off. The noise goes away when the power button is pressed. Warrenty changed the board but the new board does the same. I called head office, they said the noise is normal. I’ve never heard of any Appliance humming or buzzing when the thing is off. I would not recommend buying this dryer. After paying $1850.00 for the dryer I’m very disappointed. The only thing I am pleased is that the pair came with seven year parts and labour warranty . The only way to get rid of the buzzing noises to shut the breaker off. And With all the talk about saving energy and the planet, this dryer adds to my electric bill by using up power. Can you believe it?
I have a Kenmore that’s 5 years old, it has a similar set up and government “eco” crap throughout the programming. It does have one single setting called deep wash, which adds more than normal water to the wash basin. Supposed to be used if you have particularly dirty clothes, but I literally use it on everything, because if I don’t, the clothes don’t come out clean and I have to wash them twice 😡… This is literally the exact same problem they have done to toilets, making the tanks smaller and smaller, which forces the user to flush more than once after doing #2, hence actually using more water than if they’ve had an older toilet with a bigger tank. Government needs to leave our appliances alone and spend their time and energy trying to solve real problems!
No one wants a bigger government until a hurricane, earthquake or tornado hits. Then we want some big government. No one wants big government until people start dropping dead from tainted food. No one wants big government until the banks take all your hard earned money through bad investments, then it's time for big government. Some people want small government till it starts affecting them.
Went in for a SQ TR7 washer last month. They had a black returned set, we ended up buying for 1999 instead of 3000. Our King sized comforter is thin so no isdies getting it clean as long as we wash it alone.
@@mbox314 I would say take advantage of a current architecture and program it. There are boards out there like Arduino, Raspberry Pi and others that you just connect to a custom board or something and it will do what you want it to do.
I purchased the Speed Queen washer and Dryer a few months back and now I’m having trouble with them both!!!! I thought it would be a set that I could depend on but I guess even these have changed! I am so disappointed!!!
I really agree with your viewpoint on what the government has done to clothes washers. Great job! I'm not telling you anything new, but the TC5, with its more aggressive, independent-from-the-tub agitator, and its ability to, you know, fill the tub up entirely, is so much better at cleaning clothes and rinsing away the detergent than the weaker TR models with their moving-water-around-gently approach, using not enough water, to clean clothes. The government forced SQ into those TR models that theoretically use less water and energy . . . . . . until you have to run the load again to get them clean the detergent rinsed away. The TC5's only drawback is that it only uses cold water during the RINSE cycle. Of all SQ top loading washers, only the TR7 model can use warm water for the rinse cycle. But IMHO, that one advantage is not a good enough reason to purchase the TR7 rather than the TC5. The TC5 has: 1. No Lid Lock like the TRs, so you can open it after the wash starts 2. A 5-year parts and labor warranty 3. A 15-year warranty on the transmission 4. A lifetime warranty on both the inner and outer drums.
I bought my SQ front loader with electronic controls 10 years ago. Not one problems other than a baby sock getting stuck in the pump and having to suck 5 gallons of tub water with my shop vac through the pump cover and remove the sock without flooding my house.
You shouldn't equate the government's regulations with the actual ability of the washer. Yes, there is the "ECO" mode, but I replaced my Bosch 500 vision series (which in all fairness, was bought in 2010 and lasted 13 years) with this washer and dryer combo and it is just like being at many of the hotels I have to live in on the road - it does one thing and does it really well. Just touch the overfill button and it's like a washer out of the 70's/80's. I can easily see this washer and dryer lasting longer than I will at this point and I'm 52.
Your points about resource stewardship are valid. I live in CA, and I’m unhappy my development relies on river water (which is already depleted). But with my current washer, I have to do extra rinses, which doesn’t save water in the long run. 😩
I have to wash on longer cycles with extra soak and extra rinse all the time. And use the extra water feature. Weird, almost seems like you need water to clean clothes. Imagine that. lol
There are no residential washers that will actually clean a king size comforter. If you fill the tub with all that fabric and have to push it in to get it to fit there's no room for water to actually clean also the comforter won't move because it's crammed in there.
That's a great washer too. I sold and repaired them for years. The coupler, though an easy repair, will often fall prey to the overloader, which many users are. I started selling Speed Queen 40 years ago. As good as the Whirlpool is it's not a Speed Queen.
@@handymoore-ik7oc Totally agree. It WAS an ok machine but I did have to replace that damn plastic coupler often and I am a careful washer. Are any direct drive machines even available anymore? Except for Speed queen?
One day it will break and you'll have to get a new one. I found out this last year. Bought new whirlpool and it's already malfunctioning. Think it is the circuit board, several cycles won't run a rinse. Definitely looking into a Speed Queen.
No, the opposite. Only consumer washers have water level size. TR washers have the option for either auto or at least 2 manual levels. TC washers are either auto or full. Commercial washers do not have a water level selector, they are either always full or for coin-op, program-dependent.
Hi happy Thanksgiving getting the TR five in the DR five delivered to my new home on December 1. How do I bypass the eco-friendly so it fills to the top. Perhaps the heavy duty cycle??
Never understood what "save water" means. Do they think water used once and ruined forever? Don't think that's how it works. If so, there would be no usable water left.
Thanks to the Government overlords they deemed that any washer built here in the states 2018 and on must have a control board. The TC5 is the best washer out there! I’ve owned mine for 2 years now and love it, I’m also a dealer and warranty provider for speed queen.
3.5 drum size is too small on the current models. I had to go with another brand at 5.3 and I’m loving the capacity. And yes, my king size comforter was no issue with the 5.3 (my previous washer was 4.0, also too small!)
There are places that will repair the top computer board on that machine if it goes out for $50 to $75. This is probably less than the mechanical parts you will need to replace over time on a machine without the computer. The lower computer board is a motor controller, which reduces your electric bill. Without it you ARE paying more to run this machine. Some people just want to whine about things they don’t understand. That TC5 is an awesome machine and can last over 25 years.
Sorry, but you are mistaken in your assessment of the capacity of the SQ. Most all other brands don't fill the drum to capacity, in turn can't wash king sized comforters or use the space to its fullest. The SQ does fill completely which enables the unit to wash full loads including king comforters. You should know better and not make statements that are factually incorrect.
I want one but no computers just mechanical that way it can be repaired. They can put those computers in the trash pile or bury them like they buried those ET atari games back in the 80s.
Can anyone tell me if they have the classic clean or the perfect wash on a second floor laundry room? Was told the motor is too heavy for American made home. We have a custom home but how can I know for sure before I buy one?
Both washers will work on the second floor. The motors are not that heavy. Tc 6 has a 3/motor tr series has a one horse power motor. Both series work very well. Don't listen to these comments about the tc series. Most of them don't own one, ther just following the crowd.
I bought a Speed Queen washer because I like the way these cleaned. It lasted two years, not 25. The transmission broke and it would cost almost as much as a new washer.
@ We would buy a Speed Queen but with the center agitator? We find that feature wears our clothes out faster. Thanks for letting me know. We'll stick to what we have
Little odd the unit/brand chosen to do a mini rant about government-control-eco-nonsense was the Speed Queen lineup. Did a lot of research before getting mine and they seem to be a big proponent of bringing back the days when a washer and dryer would literally last 20+ years. That doesn't merit a bash simply because they have an eco setting in my opinion.
It's quite obvious when you have a washer with a circuit board and when you have one with a clockwork timer. The feel is totally different. Not really any clicks there are on a PCB(printed circuit board) operated machine and the dials don't move by themselves. Totally the opposite with clockwork timers. Miele were the Speed Queen of washing machines once and as far back as the late 80's they were using circuit boards. But back then they didn't make the boards cheaply, Miele made NOTHING cheaply. There are many a Miele's from the 90's and earlier that function just like they do when they were new...
I run a TR3 and it cleans just fine in ECO/normal mode. Saving water and electric power saves you money! The inverter drive in the TR3 reduces the mechanical parts and it makes the machine quiet.
For what it’s worth, my newer front loading HE washer that uses a third of the water as my former traditional washer and it does an amazing job of cleaning. And when I or my family get on a plane, train, automobile, or consume foods or pharmaceuticals I hope the government has regulated them. Unless you want to remove all regulations, please avoid denigrating regulations en masse. The truth doesn’t matter when you just have an agenda to promote.
My TC5 died in 10 months with only 1 -2 loads a week. Smelled and sounded like a belt and/or a bearing went already and leaking out bottom. Like everthing now, garbage products at premium prices. Seems like SQ is resting on their prior reputation. Hopefully my authorized dealer will make it right if they ever get here. Two weeks out just to look at it. I thought this would last years without any problems.
As two repairmen I over heard said while chuckling: "the best front loader I can recommend is a top loader". Front loaders are just for show and suckers. Laundromats use them because of less wear that an agitator will create from people over loading and abusing the machines. Not because they clean better.
What's the link with computers and governments? The only thing some govermenet (eg. Europe) are asking are low water and energy consumption. Manufacturers do whatever they want from that. Even then. Nothing force manufacturers to sell that kind of appliance everywhere. They do that because it's cheaper to have models as standard as possible with the minimum of difference from one market to another.
I don't know what the Big hype is about the king size Comforter. 🙄 It will easily fit a king size bedspread. Just put down a blanket or 2 under it.🤷♂️

Errata-- the IC-embedded PCB is in the lower part of the unit near the front. The knob select has a breakout board connecting those, the lot of which is connected to the lower mainboard.
Yep. Basically pointeometers and encoders that communicate to the main pcb control board.
King size comforter fits in my Speed Queen TR5. The washer's agitator design methodology allows filling the washer's tub to the top and not damage fabrics. I constantly fill the tub up with towels. I don't see a need to have a large drum that would consume more water.
Really, glad to hear that

😎 I'm not saying everyone should do it this way***
Bad idea. You're overworking and will eventually damage the machine. There are clean laundromats near you that'll cost $10 max to wash a comforter.

@@georgeoh5361 When it breaks I'll have it repaired or buy another. I'll do just about anything to stay out of laundrymats.

Government needs to leave our appliances alone and spend their time and energy trying to solve real problems!

what problems have you had with the washer?
about to buy a tc5 as my maytag 3 year old washer is dead
The TC5 has:
1. No Lid Lock like the TRs, so you can open it after the wash starts
2. A 5-year parts and labor warranty
3. A 15-year warranty on the transmission
4. A lifetime warranty on both the inner and outer drums.
Why do you need warm rinse?
The free market hasn’t done anything to improve washing machine reliability.
Speed queen is the best ever. I bought a speed queen commercial washer. Basic. High , medium, low. Hot, cold
Imagine that. lol
Our 2 month old TC5 can handle a KING sized comforter with ease, just use the highest settings...
I just use a down comforter with washable cover. Easier to wash than a huge polyester comforter. That said, I love my old SQ.

There are no residential washers that will actually clean a king size comforter. If you fill the tub with all that fabric and have to push it in to get it to fit there's no room for water to actually clean also the comforter won't move because it's crammed in there.
I'll stick to my reliable old school whirlpool direct drive
That's a great washer too. I sold and repaired them for years. The coupler, though an easy repair, will often fall prey to the overloader, which many users are. I started selling Speed Queen 40 years ago. As good as the Whirlpool is it's not a Speed Queen.

So basically in order to get a speedqueen with load water size selection the only option is to buy a commercial unit?

It's quite obvious when you have a washer with a circuit board and when you have one with a clockwork timer. The feel is totally different. Not really any clicks there are on a PCB(printed circuit board) operated machine and the dials don't move by themselves. Totally the opposite with clockwork timers.

Your post is 2 months old. How did you come out on this?
do you recommend a front load speed queen 2023?
Government always knows best.
All washers made today have computers. One to control the motor, and another one that controls the cycles. Timers went out in 2018.
If it has any computer or electronics then this washer is made in china for sure.
