I've had a couple Twilight Zone like cosmic coincidences lately while watching YT and then going to a site called Radio Garden. I'd put the link but YT automatically deletes it. I guess because it's competition? Google it, it's EVERY radio station on Earth for free. Erin go Bragh!
Every time I watch one of Bela's videos I am reminded of M*A*S*H, where Col. Potter quipped more than once that his wife Mildred played classical banjo. The line always got a big laugh, but as we can see it's no joke. Bela schools every person that laughed at it...well, perhaps it was amusing back in the 70s. Now we see how it's nothing short of amazing. Although not actually Classical in the literal sense, but rather Baroque...
Well played. Very nice. And a testament to the universality of J.S. Bach. richard -- {Sorry. I have to.} One of the phrases you are least likely to hear: "That's the banjo player's Porsche."
If anybody was wondering ..the books & reels behind him are instructions and videos on how to play 3 finger Scruggs. And how to keep a banjo in tune !!!
This is the Allemanda movement from Bach's 2nd Violin Partita. 1004, not 1003 if anyone's trying to find a violin performance.
Late night UA-cam rabbitholes lead to some amazing places!

Yep
His technical skills never fail to impress. No one takes the banjo uptown like Bela.
Eventually Jens Krüger

How do you keep a banjo in tune?
Brilliant!
This song is on Solo Banjo Works with Tony Trischka. But there is says Bach Violin Partita In D Minor (BWV1004).
Classical Banjo was a thing in the mid 19th century, It died out, except in one part of North Carolina where it evolved into Scruggs/Reno style.
God mother fuckin DAM
When can we expect a tour with you and Thile? I would pay just to hear the practices.
Fantastic playing ....
love it!!
i'd give anything to see the look on Bach's face if he could see this
He would love it - that's why Bach was out of this world.
@@hommefriday bach would have been the hippest jazzer on the scene for sure. or the hippest at whatever style. :)
@@benmilstein5654 a want the movie where Bach gets jumped to the future and becomes a neoprog metal keyboardist.
He would probably buy a banjo
The discipline to play classical arpeggios without sounding like a banjo roll.
Reminds me of Bach.
Fucking beautiful
I would love to hear the chaconne…. Maybe?
what a medley/mash up 👀
It’s a banjo, cuallito.
Specsavers in your town/ village ?
Should have had victor Wooten pop out for Sinister Minister with an acoustic bass.
He's like Eddie Banj Halen.

He looked happy to get the rote classical portion behind him, honestly. It’s a form of Catholic penance, I guess.
wtf is wrong with 4 people?
John prine
I’ve never seen him mess up so many times in one video
I play a banjo and I am familiar with Bach, I disagree! It was pretty spotless! Which parts???
'its not about what note you play, its about what note you play NEXT'
I was surprised as well. It's a rather messy performance.
bulldozer fingertip
No expression whatsoever, just a technical exercise. Waste of time.
