The most useful lathering video I’ve seen. Clear, concise, informative. Particularly helpful explanation of when to know the lather is ready to use. And a relief to know that the lathering process can be done in a few minutes. Thank you.
I prefer the soap and brush👍. I'm usually pressed for time in the morning. Splash my face, wet the brush, a few swirls of brush on soap, then get on with it shaving. Love my single blade safety razor. Zero clogs. I don't need a 5 blade disposable getting clogged w wiskers at $4 each. I'm much quicker with the simple shave.
I fill the sink with hot water. mix my soap then let the bowl to float on the hot water with the brush inside. this means on each pass the soap and brush are nice and warm to the skin. I use one of those white enameled pie tins with the blue rim. it float and conducts really well
I always struggle to get such a thick consistency with whichever soap I use so this tutorial has been a great help. Thanks. And I loved the sound effects 😊.
the consistency of this lather is not thick! the thick lather is not runny or has no big volume like this there is one video i stumbled in which shares the same idea what i think. when you do like this u will never enjoy your shave.
Damn i didnt know you had to load and then lather. New to soaps and brushes but in the culinary world this is the exact same concept as whipping cream into soft/hard peaks. I thought you just ran your brush in your soap bar and that was it. Gona try this out 1st time tomorrow as i juat got my brush and van der hagen soap yesterday
Just had the kit as birthday present and keen to try. Good to see the lather consistency at the end literally hanging off the brush. So that's what to aim for. Thanks.
Like the tea cup for a soap cup, seems most shave cups are high sided, the tea cup is shallow and wider allowing for for buildup of more lather. Think I'll go find me antique tea cup for the job. Like your "set-up" too. cheers!
Right? I didn't want to watch some random balding guy shaving. "oi here's how you get a lather". Boom, it magically appears. "and that's how it's done". Cool brah
would you mind telling us the name of the bowl and holder along with the safety razor in the video? looks sexy sitting on the counter and great setup. nice video
At 33, I JUST got into shaving with a strait razor. Maybe I have too much free time but I actually started doing it because I was bored (and it's just so freaking cool)... But for the life of me, I can't produce a lather like this dude... Have a similar set-up but i'm using Sir Hair barber soap and it just doesn't work!.. I'm literally watching this vid and copying what he's doing and I get just a lil bit of sloppy azz foam. Think I might try that Synergy and see what happens... That was a great vid though. Definitely learned something. Blades don't have to reload!
Holy sh!t! I just looked up that shaving soap and it goes for $90 a can... Whaaaa??? Part of shaving "old school" is it's CHEAP!!! Apparently, I'm simply too poor to shave... Just the B*lls, T*int, and *sshole from now on. Gotta by the cartridges for that, boys. (don't try it with a strait... It will be bloody) They do it for us... Return the favor. Least we can do.
You gotta play with the soap to water ratio. I used to think it was about adding more soap but I found I was actually needing more water and more time whipping it if I wanted to get those giant bowls of lather.
the best for me $2.87 Neutrogena Original Amber Bar Facial Cleansing Bar with Glycerin, Clean- put in microwave for 20 seconds ,it will liquify ,pour into shaving bowl , let cool then just use brush to lather .It doesn't promote a big giant foamy face but gives you lubrication and skin protection . after all it is only what is on your skin that affects it not the foam on top of foam $2.87 it will last over a year

I need to try out lathering it in a bowl. I'm trying to lather on my face and it just won't lather, next time I shave I'll try using a bowl becouse I've been trying to face lather for a couple months and it's always so watered down that it looks like I took hand soap and tried lathering

Shave with any bar soap or Mitchell's Wool Fat? Cut the bar soap up, put in a mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, microwave for a minute or so? if it foams up, stop. let cool you just went it to congeal' place in the sun, until soap hardens Larry
You need to use a soap not a cream. Also it depends on the quality of the soap. Another factor i think is that he is using a wide bowl to generate the lather
@@deadcell4837 yeah, I don't think that's it. I can't count the number of times over the years I have precisely followed what appeared to be very simple instructions in tutorial videos like this, using a variety of soaps, and not one time have I gotten their results.
Ernesto Gonzales I know this was left here 2 years ago and is most likely irrelevant to you now, but there are many factors including water hardness, type of soap and brush quality that could affect how much lather you get. Try using a good quality soap and distilled water.

At last a how-to video with a view of the actual process of making lather, and not just a talking head this is in love with his own voice.

just going to let you know that soaps a little more thirsty so going to need a little more water.
People into wet shaving actually use the same terminology for a good lather - stiff peaks.

Nice dense and merangue-like consistency lather. Kudos for not using that moronic description if "yogurty"!
Excellent vid, like your set up, simple and classy. Great idea to use a tray to keep everything together and off a potentially wet bench. 👍
I like your shaving arrangement kit. I am going to copy it.🙂
I always held the bowl in my hand and never pressed the brush hard. Those were my mistakes. Never again! Thank you.
Now that is a pasty creamy lather which I prefer
