searching for a pint in Hull's roughest estate!

- I roam the streets of Hull's roughest estate in search of a pint. Apparently there are motorbikes taking over and drug deals happening in broad daylight. All i want is a decent pint in an estate pub!

I was born in Hull .Orchard and Bransholme are known as rough areas.
@@darren253 get bad a night?...was a ghost town when i went! 🤣
@honestplaces I need to contact you
I worked all over Yorkshire with YW, Hull had a bad reputation but I discovered it was very friendly, I never got any grief from anyone not even on the estates. I thought it was very underrated.
In regard to those estates it's always the case that a few people spoil it for everyone else!
Agreed. I grew up in hull. We know we are fucked but we are friendly.
I grew up on one of those estates. It always felt rough and there were some sketchy people but mostly people had warm hearts and wished others well. Lack of good education and public services have made it an underserved city. I still feel at home there though
I love a proper boozer. Loads of great pubs here in Ireland. Although, that first pub I would have avoided like the plague judging by the outside of it. Funny though how it was instantly warm and welcoming the second you braved the threshold and walked in. Friendly greeting at the door, bit of a buzz going on inside, friendly bar lady. Little safe haven from the hell that. Cheers for this content. Subscribed. ✌
Yeh mate, some you just know are dodgy....some you gotta take the risk. Ireland has sweet pubs. Cheers pal 👍
So rare in the south they do exist but have to properly search.
This is such interesting content. I really enjoy how you make the mundane interesting and bring these ordinary places to life like you do. Keep up the good work.
Love your channel. These pubs are usually the best places to have a drink and chat with regulars. Forget Wetherspoons etc.
It’s official, I really will watch anything. Great channel. I’ll be watching more.
Good content pal.
We've had family get togethers in both of those pubs, numerous times, always seem to have good atmosphere and welcoming.
The Drake ,paying for the ambience😆, still some nice folk around, best pubs allow dogs 🐕 🙏🇬🇧
100% on the dog comment
Getting right into this channel. Nice one. 👍🏻
Cheers pal....appreciate it! 👍
I think Hull estates bad reputation is from yesteryear. There were a dozen or more high rise blocks just in the orchard park area you walked in all demolished now , the garths part on BHE is mostly gone along with the notorious Alcatraz many years before..
A big transformation across them areas now.. Good video btw 👍
Aye alatraz masionettes, we used to throw bangers in the lifts when we were kids
Loving this. Makes me want to tour towns doing the same!
Get it done 👍
I am in my 20s, but I love these "local" bars/working mens clubs etc. And deprived places. They have character and real people. Come to Sheffield.
If I'm in Sheffield it's The Kelham Island Tavern. Quality working class people and beer.
I will check it out@@heiltd1286
@@heiltd1286is it still? I used to drink down there 20 years ago after my shift in a factory and loved it. But the recent gentrification round there has changed the whole area and pubs for the worse in my opinion. Only a couple of pubs I’d entertain now. Last time I walked past the fat cat it was full of daft women drinking gin and had two bouncers on the door! Big change from the pub it used to be😮
Cool vibes from those pubs, very friendly, not like those pubs you walk in and everyone turns around and stares at you!
True....some of the best pubs are the ones people avoid!
Love this, grim but interesting. Subbed!
Hi my friend cheers! Jason from the US of A here keep in mind my friend those of us viewing from other countries, may still find the areas with housing that you consider to be very boring, actually quite interesting. So, basically what I'm saying is keep up the good work mate, your videos are quite fascinating.
I'd love to take a trip around old town America with the shady bars.
The phone boxes are/were that off-white colour because Hull had a different phone company. In the rest of the UK the Post Office ran the phone system originally so the phone boxes were red, like the post boxes. In Hull the town Corporation ran the phone system, and I think they also ran the electricity system. Just found your channel and enjoying it a lot, thank you!
Thanks for the info! Cheers pal. Appreciate it 👍
The phone company in Hull is run by Kingston Communications, hence the white phone box's
@@timthwaites9478 new to me 👍
@aites9478 indeed, but originally it was the town corporation
My mum if from Hull and even back in the 1960s, local phone calls within Hull were free.
Been in Aus for about 10 years now
One thing I miss about home is the pub style going in few pints watch the footy ect
Just subbed mate quality channel I love stuff like this 💯
Cheers pal, appreciate it 👍
A close pub and betting shop combo is always a winner😉👍
Yup 🤣
It's never dull in Hull! 😃
Need to go back to check out the centre!
@@honestplaceslots a decent museums tbf and old town is decent
Great channel. I'm from hull and yes some of it is way behind. southerners will be shocked!
Cheers.....yeh anyone south of Birmingham are in for a shock 🤣
Nah try Chatham Gillingham. Rochester Sittingbourne. Even Maidstone and Canterbury in Kent have gone downhill. Moving all the worst from London down here.
I've visited Blackpool. I enjoyed myself there but did venture in the back streets and yea very seedy rundown and dodgy landlords even thirty years ago
@@ciararespect4296 kent is bad!?
@@honestplaces yes I'm 55 and back in the eighties it was a great place. Unfortunately last twenty years a massive amount of housebuilding and people being moved by councils out of London. County lines drug dealing. Shopping centres gone downhill. A lot of poverty homelessness etc Canterbury Maidstone Medway towns (Chatham Rochester and Gillingham) all dives now. Tunbridge wells and Tonbridge still fairly wealthy and nice
Not really alot of places down south have estates that look like this. Southampton for example
I grew up in Blackpool, and in 2005 was living in the worst estate there (Grange Park) till I met my future wife on the internet. She lived about 200yds from the Drake on Bude Rd. Punchline is, when I moved to Hull my car insurance went UP £30 and believe me, where I lived in Blackpool was dire! But it's not bad at all here now.
I played a gig in drake in 2006 with me mates as it was my mums local and she threw me a leaving party before I went in the Navy 😂 Classy pub 🍻
These are great uploads subcribed
Cheers! Appreciate it 👍
Decent little video 👍
Try Grimsby. As far as estate pubs go I recommend the Nunthorpe Tavern and The Valiant. Town centre has Walters which was the Pestle and Mortar or P&M locally. Freeman Street is worth a visit and just over the bridge to Tescos Mockingbird serves the best burger and best all round street food anywhere in UK.
Was in a locals pub in Dublin before Xmas and it's the best night out nowadays. Meat raffle the lot. There is a warmth and a chat you used to get before mobile phones. Bit like going to gigs...
I used to be a financial adviser for CIS... used to collect insurance payments and walk around the estate with about 2-3,000 in my inside suit jacket pocket
My son lives up there, it’s bloody lovely,, didn’t hear many sirens ,and heard no trouble either,, it’s run down in places like every town ,village and city in the uk! You couldn’t compare it to Manchester, I’d move up there tomorrow
Just subscribed. Love a pub crawl 🤣🤣 from Scotland
Cheers pal, appreciate it. Bet there are some right pubs uo there
Yeah some good some rough 👍
New to the channel honest content and like how you find the good pubs with the locals 😊 got a new sub

Proper classic British pub! Not many those around these days!
You know it 👍🍺
Near where i live there used to be an estate type pub called the newbridge which has sadly shut down.
Theres an estate type pub up the road called the willows.
Cool video, I'm from Hull and never ventured round there. Pubs looked decent though, with friendly people. Hope you try Warrington one day 👍🍻
Looks lovely, the Humber Bridge is cool
Aint that bad.....never crossed that bridge 😭
@@honestplaces My dad took me when i was a little girl. It sticks in my mind.
You never crossed the Humber Bridge? You need to revisit and explore Humber Bridge Country Park(North side)and Barton(South side)
The humber bridge country park is still one of my favourite picnic spots!
People in The Drake seemed so friendly bless em ❤
Great stuff, mate
Wow ! That Guinness looked delicious 👍
I'm shocked. I've never seen anything like this since the slums of Glasgow. This looks like some run down place in Romania.. just beyond belief that it's in the same England where I live
It was just really quiet.....was odd. The pubs were good but think it hets abit dodgy at night
Romania is better.

It doesn't look too bad. Seen worse down south

Cool pub crawl 😀
Was driving so had to cut it short 🤣
The nightjar. My parents used to run it when I was younger. Proper pub. Practically grew up there
Still a banger 👍🍺

Just found your channel 🙂 enjoying watching back over your videos. Gorgeous tatts too!
Thank! Appreciate it 😁
Another great video. It’s a change for someone to actually appreciate our culture rather than decrying it.
Well said🎉
Nice to see Hull mentioned but it’s a lot more rough in East Hull. Preston Road. Orchard Park are the places to see for a man of your appetites.
My band played a gig at The Drake a couple years back.
Was a good one, and food was put on 🎸
Decent boozer
My dad’s band played there a few months back ! Licks band.
You made it out alive... well-done.... Hull always was and will be a one horse place at the end of the motorway and train line, people are friendly enough but unfortunately opportunity is bleak
I have 2 pubs in deeside (flintshire north wales) Thet all have hisoty of fight, police, and drugs too. They are Wheatherspoons and The Clwyd. Fight happened, they always seem to be pretty rough
I love how at 9.10 .. you capture the range rover of hulls most bait drug dealer out side the abandoned William hill 😊
🤣🤣
Just watched a documentary on the notorious estate Crescents in Hulme south Manchester.. That place really did look like a ghetto reminded me of the Cabrini-Green Homes projects in Chicago.. Didnt think uk had estates like that..
Yeh hulme is mad!
New sub, like your content, being a londoner its interesting to see the northern side
Cheers....appreciate it. Still need to visit the london to check out the outskirt pubs and areas 👍
Good posts mate 👍
That first pub looked quite decent on the inside
....and cheap ;)
That outside though....
Subscribed. Nobody does this, but visit these sorts of areas at night! I am certain your viewer/subscriber numbers would go through the roof! Dodgy places in the day are good n all, but night time is when things get REALLY dodgy. Fab vid!
cheers mate, appreciate it. only started doing them so will build up my confidence for night ones!
@@honestplaces well I think this channel is fab, so look forward to seeing them!
@@KidneyMush cheers!!! 👍
so crazy seeing this area again, this is where i grew up. you don’t realise how awful it looks until you move away for a decade
Yeh sometimes you gotta spend time away to see that
Looks like a quiet, tidy estate with friendly locals to me. Was expecting to be shocked but wasn’t shocked at all.
😂😂 There weren't any heads in there that's why
You can't get any more British than that. Having a hangover and off to a supermarket to buy a can of beer to sober up. 😂 I really enjoy your channel. Cheers from Oakville, Canada 🇨🇦
love these vids
Why thank you 👍👍
I'm from hull and there used to be sketchy pubs all over the city on the estates most closed down now though not many left
1:44 I remember living in that flat in 2017!
Spent many a good night in the nightjar on Bransholme was first pub I drank in it looked a bit different then. You was in the bar it used to be great in the lounge
It's pretty funny you wondering where everyone is. Apart from the roads, a lot of the council estates are quite sleepy places during the day. Livens up towards the evening depending on the day but everyone's inside playing games, getting high or at work.
My mate lives near the Drake, I used to goto that school you went by it's called Beude park primary. You are in just one of the rougher areas one street away from where I grew up. It's not that bad really now but back then it was as dodgy as they come.
Edit: Oh so you went to the Nightjar then lmao! My house was nextdoor to it. Back in 1995 there was this fella who every other evening stood in the beergarden in the carpark behind it and shouted "SCRAMBLE!!!" and threw his spare change everywhere. Sometimes pound coins but mostly copper, tens and twenty's. We all used to gather there waiting when we got used to it and try and collect it all lmao I can't believe I'm seeing all this it's real weird, nostalgic.
It was weird down there though, used to be an underpass just behind the houses on the main road, I got hit by a bus on the corner there when I was a kid. Lot of druggies down there under the arch. Pedo's around that area a lot aswell (not an ignorant insult I'm just throwing out there either I know for a fact). Lot of fights breaking out all the time and houses being set on fire. I remember going to watch them burn down and walking by on the way to school.
Edit2: Oh shit I didn't expect you to go around the back of the betting shop. I just got sudden flashbacks my heart is racing. That path down there a lot of bad shit went down for me. I'm glad I got out
Cone to Derby. Youd enjoy The Vulcan, The Lyndhurst and The Bank 😊
In ull we only play out in summer
I’m from hull , love your videos, please do a video on hull city centre, you’ve got the marina , old town , queens gardens it’s beautiful x
Thanks. I will do, i'll get myself back
How is he going to get the click bait views by doing that I mean all the places in and around Hull he goes to Bransholme🧐
I didn’t buy into the rumours about Samaras staying in Hull but there he is at the bar
You went over 2 estates,Orchard park, then the nightjar which is on Bransholme estate
I know orchard park and the fella with the beer hahaha rough estate i moved off there years ago
Orchard park and bransholme now try longhill and greatfield
Enjoying a few cans of draught Guinness here right now myself. Some people think the cans of Guinness aren't nice , I think they are lovely
Nitro surge is like a pub poured pint! 👍
Yea I heard that nitro is supposed to be the job alright, I must try it. Enjoyed the video mate 👍
My mum is from Bransholme and yes it’s rough but crime there isn’t crazy. A lot of young kids on bikes but not gangs like London for example
It's friendly in there nice pub ,yar evening time it's a proper 💥👎😏🥹😳😁
That Guinness looked good 👍

I used to go boozing in hull now and again back in the 90s ask any locals where was best place to go they would say " Tower for an hour" cos you were garunteed to pull within an hour 😆

As someone who's actually from and still lives in Hull, yeah.... it's pretty much like this. It's just an odd place, neither great nor terrible place, just..... a place.....
Edit: To be honest, I feel like Hull's lost its identity since all the main business that Hull brought sort of died out and so its just..... here.
Also the blue tower, is actually a block of flats, I live nearby another one, a peachy coloured one, pretty much up the road from the blue one.

My grandparents used to live on the edge of this estate when I was a kid
Never felt safe having to walk through it to go visit my great grandad on the opposite side lmao

Cheers! Nah me neither. My pet hate people who litter!
to be fair they seem quite friendly in the pub.
Bet you did a bit of walking mate you was on Orchard Park & Bransholme
Yeh i realised that....walked for like 2 hours 🤣
Looks like you picked a nice day with no shootings or stabbings. On a night down Orchard Park is sort of reminds you of bonfire night except with smack instead of sparklers. High rise were pulled down because they were a Grendel waiting to happen. Hull is Hell and Hell is Hull
Orchard Park. Heaven on earth.
You want to try a afternoon in donny Town centre Gateside mad pubs there
Just came across your video ill definitely hit the sub.👍

close housing /rows of attached houses is all you need to destroy the English. we lack room to be industrial & loud & messy.
both neighbours can hear what you do with your wife at night aswel . Front door size, Nobody has a double door we ALL scrape our hands moving furniture through front & rear doors .
They dont want us making big things indoors / limiting how industrial self employed can be.
Should be really taking that up with the extortionate Banks not the average people.
@@Wicked_RLike the banks would ever listen to Joe Public. Most of them are closing down anyway to push us online
I wouldn't be able to buy anything if they didn't accept NFC..
Decent looking pint in fairness, that's half the battle.. Guess the other half is getting outa there alive😅
Wasn't too bad mate....i did go in the day though
You won't get trouble in these pubs unless you go looking for it though.
Every area has the local dive and loads of youths pissing about nowadays. Glad I’m out the way where I live and it’s only a mile up the road is like a different world. Comes alive at night.
Go to Grimsby Nunsthorpe estate.
