buying from IKEA (or similar cheap furniture brand) is always cheaper than building your own (buying mitter saw, clamps, drill, drill guide etc). Not to mention that your cut might be crooked if you just started and the resulting table is going to be woobly.
but if you invest in tools and time to learn the skill, you can save a lot of money in the long run.
