Hi all! For anyone who enjoyed this, I also have retrospectives on: Dark Souls 1 - ua-cam.com/video/7omVapsObQ0/v-deo.html and Dark Souls 2 - ua-cam.com/video/A2AopZHLLOg/v-deo.html Cheers!
I love the detail of how in Dark Souls 3 it has been so long and so many cycles since Gwyn kindled the flames himself that the world at large doesn't even remember his name anymore
I have to say, the Undead Settlement is one of my fave areas. The general atmosphere and sound design is excellent 👌 The enemy sounds are creepy and the tree boss... I just really loved it.
I love the suttle story telling of the evangelist women from the cathedral preaching to the settlement. There deep cackles and the fact they are one of the only enemies who speak understandable words adds to that so much!
don't know if this is well know, but after defeating friede, the corvian sitting in the house will stand outside watching the church on fire and will give you a titanite slab after talking to him
8:30 I dig the ”I rarely die in these games”-followed-by-a-death-compilation running gag in these videos. I dig the videos and your thoughts on the Souls games too. Big Ups! This is great work.
Left the video with a new movie on my watchlist. That was unexpected. Loved your description of how beautiful Dark Souls 3 really is, it portrays the worst imaginable plagued areas with such grace, and the blighted areas are my favorites in the game. Unrelated, but this reminds me of The Evil Within and why its visuals fell flat for me vs Resident Evil Remake (probably the best game ever made, throwing it out there so you know I'm not biased towards it), The Evil Within was ugly from beginning to end, gory areas full of blood, the horror was overdone, whereas in RE the mansion is full of grace and class, which makes the zombies and horror elements stand out so much more, instead of being overwhelmed with them to the point that it stops mattering.
You really can’t ask for a better video on this game. You could ask for a different style of video, but in the retrospective style, I think this longform, mostly sequential, opinion-based approach really hits. Great stuff again, and I look forward to your next video!
He just described his latest playthrough while constantly repeating how great the game is. Pretty low effort script writing without any new analysis added to the discussion.
Wonderful video friend. I'm all new here, i got hooked after watching your other Dark Souls video, and i really enjoy your commentary 😇 For those wondering, the soundtrack during the filianore cutscene is FFXIII - Dust to Dust 🎵🌞
I remember when my ps plus was going to run out I spent the last day of it helping people with Friede with a defensive build that was meant to be able to grab their aggro while everyone else did the damage & if i remember correctly when she went into phase 3 i managed to successfully block the full opening blackflame attack then everyone else attacked
I'm not quite sure if DS3 is available on my Xbox but if it is... I'll DEF be trying it next after trying my luck w/DS1... Thanks in part to your Retrospectives!!
DS3 has the best boss design and mechanics in the entire series. They just feel so good to fight. Maybe 2 or 3 that are lackluster but I look forward to almost every boss. Gael, Dancer, Friede, Champion Gundyr, Nameless King, Soul of Cinder, Pontiff, Twin Princes, Abyss Watchers, Dragonslayer Armor, Oceiros, Demon Prince, Midir are all amazing. Heck I even like the Crystal Sage a lot. Unlike Elden Ring where 90% of bosses are zero fun to fight and are mechanically broken.
My first Dark Souls was 3 and I probably died to Gundyr 30 times but good god man when I finally won it felt so good, I finally knew what everyone was raving about. I then immediately went back to Dark Souls 1 and played them in order.
when I watched your Dark Souls 1 review, at first I though english wasn't your native language because of how you pronounced words that had the letter "r" in them, but then you mentioned being scottish and the "Limmy purple burgler alarm" video instantly popped into my mind, and all of a sudden everything made sense :D
Dark souls 2 is an amazing game.. I'm convinced people havent played it and just repeating opinions. Level ADP though.. Fixes the "hitbox problem" everyone complains about.
You know, it was surprisingly nice to hear someone compliment and enjoy bosses that the rest of the community seems to write off as "easy" or "just a gimmick fight." As if they aren't still fun. I also don't like masochistic boss fights, and I think people are too attached to difficulty in the Souls series. tbh, the first 3 Souls games aren't really that difficult. The reason people tended to think of them as "hard" is because they actually _ask something of the player._ They demand attention under pain of [character] death. It wasn't until Bloodborne that the difficulty of the games spiked.
Firstly, 100% with you on the parry, never mastered it and i'm on ng+4....but one day i want to get it. Secondly though, did you miss the garden area after the dancer, with the baby holding dragon boss (sorry, clearly can't remember its name) and the second firelink shrine?
m8, I'll be honest. I got lazy and didn't include it lmao. I did play through the Consumed King's Garden and Untended Graves but yeah just didn't cover it here haha.
I just recently went back to Dark Souls 3 to see how it felt. Ended up doing a sorcery only no heal run and it total it took about 28 hours to complete and have to say Elden Ring sorceries are so much better.
The thing I love the most about DS3 is that incredible dark and dread atmosphere, and disgusting grotesque looking monsters. I literally think to myself- you are so fking ugly, when some twisted creature kills me and I see it's face
After being stuck on friede and midir for like 2 years, and not playing and putting in effort, i finally sat down last week and grinded out 30 levels (120-150) and wiped the floor with the last few bosses. Halfway through ng+ just needing trophies for spells, miracles, pyros and rings for the plat. After ds3 the only other plats i need is ds2 and demon souls
I reccomend fighting gundyr with your fists for parry practice for champion gundyr, because iudex gundyr dies too quickly otherwise, and because gundyr's theme song has a chance to shine because most people kill him before you get to hear it ge to a really cool part.
Dark Souls 3 isn't my favourite in the trilogy but man the End of Fire is ending is the perfect definitive ending for the series. It's like clutching an old dying bird, it's days of flying high long gone and having the fire keeper cradle the First Flame, with you standing beside them in its final moments of life is such a gut punchingly sad and beautiful ending imo. I sincerely hope there will never be a Dark Souls 4 because it just wouldn't feel right after ending.
Just finished Dark Souls 3 about an hour ago, Sister Friede is the only boss to make me rage quit for months, something about dying multiple times on a third phase just takes something out of you. I was happy to fight Malenia multiple times, but when theres 3 phases, losing was just so bloody demoralising. Also somehow missed the merchant at the start of Ringed City, dang.
Dark Souls 1 had same active parry frames for small and medium shields. Dark Souls 3 (no idea about DS2) changed it so that medium shields got significantly decreased amount of parry frames. Same for Elden Ring. Watching him talk about failing to parry with a medium shield I was just... "well duh". Admittedly coming from DS1 and not reading about parry data, game doesn't properly communicate the difference. But yeah, if you want to parry in DS3 use a small shield. Or fist. People seem to like fists in DS3 too. There's some difference in parry data but they're all good.
40 hours on a first playthrough? I don’t understand how people do this. With every new souls game it takes me at least 60-75 hours to complete. So I’m wondering do you just not explore as much in first playthroughs or are you just good enough to not die a lot. I’m curious for anyone who completes them in the same time frame what you do.
I'd say 40 hours is kinda standard for my first playthroughs of Fromsoft games, though it does vary somewhat from game to game. I wouldn't say I'm super great at these games though cos I sure do die quite a lot, especially at first. As far as quests go, I do sometimes miss stuff the first time round. For example, I rarely bother too much with NPC questlines at first due to how obtuse they can be with Fromsoft games, especially in Dark Souls 3!
Big souls fan, I played and beaten all the games! If you want some recommendations for DS2, play it with seeker of fire mod :)! I tried it vanilla first and didn't like it at all, with that mod, it makes it more DS1-like. Send me a message if you want, I'll send you an activation code for DS2 Scholar of the first sin :)!
Ah, buddy, thank you so much for that offer of an activation code, but someone else already sent me one and I put out my DS2 vid a few days ago haha. Seriously though, super nice of you to offer m8, top guy!
The bosses in this game really bring it this game down imo but that's after completing a sorcery no heal and it really was crystal sage, deacons of the deep and the Twin Princes that made me feel the hate.
@CANDLE Type 1a nah, not really. I was just talking shit. All you said was that she wasn't very memorable. Everybody has their preferences. Especially in the FromSoft community. Every game, every waifu, every boss, every weapon has folks tgat swear its the best one.I think that just speaks to how consistent From is with their greatness.
I know it’s a very unpopular if not hated opinion, but I genuinely think Ds3 is the worst in the series, at least to me. Objectively it’s a phenomenal game, yet it is one I do not enjoy, Just like every souls game it is an experience that cannot be replicated and has to be experienced.
I loved the first two games, and bloodborne most of all, but this one really sucked for me. Too many of the enemies were screaming, ultra-fast things. It was almost like they wanted the speed and ferocity of bloodborne, but with no real reasoning behind it.
Hey, dark souls. You see, my thing about you know. We can go and see if they can get it to game. You know it can be the game the first time I mean if you do it and test it. I prefer money but you know, money is what I prefer. It's not that it's great, it's hilarious dark souls game. It's like a whole general development and any story. We want we can even put it in fetch Question if we want.
Oh, yeah, dark souls, you gotta keep it there that nobody cares if they show up. If you're here in the dark soul of this, you're good. It just sounds weird. Think about a type of game that could be fetched question again. Could be escort question game. It could be tutorial the game. We should do that when After Disney gets to the more light-hearted about their parenthesis.
In my opinion it’s the worst FromSoft souls game. The levels are so easy to simply just run through and is essentially an extremely linear boss rush which Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 2 were nothing at all. The game is a reflex test all about abusing s and mashing R1. Magic, faith, and pyro builds have all been extremely gimped from their prime in Dark Souls 1 or 2. Seriously offensive miracles are so bad and pyro is so bad until almost 2/3rds of the game. There is really only one way to play by using sharp infusions quick weapons because there’s no poise and just hyperarmor so it just becomes a R1 mash fest. Shields are also useless since any attack drains your shield so easily and lets you become guard broken in just 2-3 hits. Seriously shields are at their worst ever in Dark Souls 3. The bosses are the only thing this game has going for it and so many of them are easily parryable. On top of that the game is a very grey mess which hates any other color but grey. This game is nothing but Bloodborne with Dark Souls 1 characters. So disappointed but not surprising since this game was only released in one year after Bloodborne. The least replayable souls game sadly
I love reading comments from retards like you who don’t know how to optimize builds. Imagine calling miracles and pyromancies bad in DS3. You thinking there’s only one way to play is either a massive skill issue or you genuinely haven’t tried to engage with other mechanics of the game.
lmao. Dude says "pyromancy and sorcery are dead in DS3". Bro in the video tears off 1/5 of Eldrich's hp with 1 fireball. I beat the game with a sorcery build recently and felt it was waaaay too easy. Beaten it with slow str weapons before no problem. Posture breaking everything like there is no tomorrow. Nothing fast and sharp. You know nothing about the game. Yeah, skill and knowledge issue. What a shameful display of failure.

Loved your description of how beautiful Dark Souls 3 really is, it portrays the worst imaginable plagued areas with such grace, and the blighted areas are my favorites in the game. I will seriously remember everything about the souls series for the rest of my life. What a masterpiece of a series.
I watched the DS1 video last night, and now this video today, amazing again man keep it up!
Great as always. Sent you an email about Dark Souls 2.
You really can’t ask for a better video on this game. You could ask for a different style of video, but in the retrospective style, I think this longform, mostly sequential, opinion-based approach really hits. Great stuff again, and I look forward to your next video!

You've convinced me to go into another new game plus! Great video man!
Thanks so much for the content. I think I’ve watched every dark souls retrospective on UA-cam lol. Will subscribe
I've put too many hours into this game. Kinda want to put more hours into it now.
No such thing as too many hours in this masterpiece brother.
There’s only too few character slots if you ask me. Always bothered me
Wonderful video friend. I'm all new here, i got hooked after watching your other Dark Souls video, and i really enjoy your commentary 😇 For those wondering, the soundtrack during the filianore cutscene is FFXIII - Dust to Dust 🎵🌞

Great comment 😂👍
Great video, great channel! Keep up the fantastic work!

These are as good as some of the best Souls video's I've seen. Keep up the good work and those subs will keep coming in.
Dust to Dust ost. ❤
Perfect for the scene. You too see true beauty.
Man, that Ringed City cutscene tears me up every time

1:10:44 that was my exact thought when I was playing against that boss, he felt extremely fair, yet difficult enough to be a challenge
when I watched your Dark Souls 1 review, at first I though english wasn't your native language because of how you pronounced words that had the letter "r" in them, but then you mentioned being scottish and the "Limmy purple burgler alarm" video instantly popped into my mind, and all of a sudden everything made sense :D
I always love the "I barely died" and cut to countless deaths in these retrospectives lol
Dark souls 2 is an amazing game.. I'm convinced people havent played it and just repeating opinions. Level ADP though.. Fixes the "hitbox problem" everyone complains about.
Nah, bought it at launch and hated it
But what I wanted from a darksouls sequel still hasn't come to pass, closest thing is bloodborne
That death montage was great. Great video, big fan!

I agree wholeheartedly about the parry timings. Got in dark souls, ds2, and bb. Could not ever get it in ds3.

This is the first time I hear anyone praising the curse rotted greatwood lol
You keep mentioning how you're not very good at games, but.to beat every single one of these boys at a level one, well that takes crazy skill!!
For some reason I can only parry with the small leather shield idk why. Maybe the animation is better

Dark souls 3 and Bloodborne are the best games in the series, don't ever fight me.
