Something that I absolutely love but don’t see people commenting on is how Matthew very much is a mix of Shulk and Rex. Having Rex’s undying optimism and charisma, while dealing with Shulk’s character arc of revenge and understanding the enemy. FR was really the culmination in many ways.
i was not expecting to like matthew as much i did, lmao, what an amazing protagonist of like a dlc of 20 hours, i was expecting the classic trope of character being annoying and never taking things seriously, the writters proving once again why they are the goat lol. also he have a similar name to mine which is "matheus" which is matthew but brazillian :)
Future Redeemed really felt like Monolith Soft saying “Thank you for loving Xenoblade as much as we do”. It was a such love letter and just so satisfying. And then for it to be like “And yeah, we have a ton more coming for you.” They’re just so so so good at this.
My favourite little reference was Shulk laughing and reminiscing about the gem crafting when Rex says “To me, it was always a piece of junk…” I still randomly break out in “to you, to me!” And laugh to myself so it was so nice hearing Shulk do the same
There's a voice clip of Shulk saying "The breeze feels so good" going around, but admittedly I'm not sure where this line is triggered. My best guess is Outlook Park
Hey everyone! My apologies for the re-upload. Someone had made it clear to me that the spoiler timestamp had been shifted from the original placement, so thank you to the person that made that clear. Anyways, I hope you enjoy my review and Tears of the Kingdom if you have been playing that!
What I think is truly incredible about Xenoblade as a whole is how consistent it is. Each game tells a story of tragedy, hope, and everything in-between. Yet at no point it truly falls off. Sure it may trip here and there but it keeps on running, keeps on moving forward. For me, every Xenoblade game has been better and better. Xenoblade 1 set the bar, 2 managed to surpass it by the end, and 3 was just icing on the best cake ive ever eaten. I know 3 is a bit divisive in regards to vagueness and a lack of "true" connection to Klaus. But I find 3, especially with the now context of FR, to really be that final game. The first time Takahashi and Monolith were able to truly finish a story they were so passionate about. To cut it short: I adore Xenoblade and I genuinely believe it is one of the greatest rpg franchises of all time. 1,2,3,Torna, and FC blew me away.
If the base game wasn't enough to show how astounding N is as a character this dlc solidified it, the cutscene at the end of chapter 4 just amazing context and delivery. Harry M. Did an astounding job with voicing, just hearing the shakiness in N's voice, one of my favorite lines delivered in gaming.. But yeah overall Future redeemed was an amazing close to the Klaus saga, I love this series so much..
One thing I really enjoyed about the protagonists of the base game and DLC is that Noah would seem like the wiser, more chill and smart dude who would really enjoy hanging out and talking with Shulk while Matthew is more outgoing, optimistic and hyper so he would enjoy hanging out with Rex more. I really enjoy that duality.
For real, I almost never wanted to touch it after finishing it for the 1st time and now I'm exited to redo it after I finish replaying Xenosaga. It's especially true since to me it gives the in-between of the 2 end cutscenes of XC3 that should have been in XC3. Although it doesn't solve all the flaws XC3 has it at least makes the story more interesting to play at least for me.
Hot take: the Chain Attack song bops so hard, that I actually don't mind it in this. Though admittedly, I didn't want to activate one against the final boss because I was enjoying the song, I had to activate one at the end of the fight knowing the team was about to get swept and was pleasantly surprised.
The end of xeno 3 left me confused and lacking information, I floundered for a while trying to process it all. I didn’t feel that at the end of FR. Whatever questions were left, I was happy with. I feel content. Satisfied. I’m so incredibly happy to have been on this journey since Xenoblade, and to have found so many people like you sharing that love with videos! Keep it up KyJulers! Thus series continues to by my top inspiration for making games. I am glad to have seen all of Xenoblade as a fan but I hope to help create whatever comes next! Edit: man you even echoed my sentiment of envy for those who have been xeno fans even longer than us, for what that radio did for them. Haha!
Nothing will make me forget how loud my gasp was when the camera panned out to Klaus' world... Seeing the Beanstalk in it's original state...seeing Morytha before ruin... The atmosphere there is why I keep playing Xenoblade.
Kayjulers, I can’t even begin to describe how much your content means to me! Every time I watch your videos, it feels like a breath of fresh air. You have this unique way of blending humor, heart, and authenticity that makes everything you create stand out. It’s so inspiring to see how dedicated and passionate you are about what you do, and it truly shows in the quality and warmth of your content. Your videos aren’t just entertaining-they’re a reminder to stay positive and find joy in the little things. Thank you for being so genuine, creative, and relatable. You’ve built an incredible community, and I feel so lucky to be part of it. Keep doing what you love, because it makes a bigger impact than you’ll ever know!
You brought up the the first few lyrics of Future Awaits as a talking point about how the song is speaking to the player, and while it does do that, something else that I don't see alot of discussion about is how the lyrics relate to not only the series and the player, but to each game and their themes as the scenes roll in the credits. In the first verse, Shulk is hit with the loss of Fiora, and with his 'foreseeing eyes' stands at the crossroads of fate, but puts aside his quest for revenge and is the first person to ask the real questions, and discover the truth of his world. For the second verse, Rex sees the fear in Pyra's eyes, reawakens Mythra the voice inside, deals with the struggle of past memories and limited time, but is able to find the strength to pick everyone back up and keep on going. The flute kicks in for verse three as Noah questions the world he lives in and how ones actions affect the world even after after death (paralleling N), but comes to peace with it knowing that your fight will always be picked up again by others, and in the end is able to walk hand in hand with Mio. The fourth verse skips to the end of Future Redeemed as Shulk, Rex, and A leave to become avatars, they assure Nikol, Glimmer, and Matthew that they are not alone and will not be gone forever, and to keep fighting on because the future they desire is in reach. As the credits end and the worlds become one again, the song speaks to every title, as all of our protagonists felt hesitation near the end of their journeys, but reassures them that the future is what they seek, and gives them the final push to move on. It is truly a beautiful song that just has so much put into it and the credits in general, and the biggest love letter to the series.
Leading up to the game's release I was worried that the plot would fall flat due to the amount of history it had to connect in such a short amount of time. But holy shit, it tied up everything nearly perfectly
I still can't believe they actually committed to revisiting the whole Ontos thread with Alvis. Felt like the ultimate fanservice I'd spent years hoping for but thought I'd never get. I fully expected 3's DLC to have nothing to do with the original 2 games at all and boy was I glad to be wrong
The way this is a prequel to XC3 but works as a perfect finale for the whole series is a really interesting paradox, reminiscent of the first 6 Star Wars films.
Getting to klaus's world invoked within me the reaction I think that one piece fans will experience when they finally make it to laugh tale to find the treasure. I was cheering, I was bawling my eyes out, I was flabbergasted beyond words, my heart was racing at the rapid fire reveals, which made all of my wildest fantasies about this story all come true at once. I've dreamed of seeing Klauses world for a real-world decade. I've pondered the relationship that xcx and saga had to blade for literally years. I wondered about Ontos for half a decade. I adamanelty maintained that Alvis's dream wasn't in vain for over a year, to be met with vindication. I've been up at night before laying in my bed wondering what happened at the end of xc3 and whether or not Noah and Mio would get to be together again one day. The ending of this dlc made me feel things that words fail to convey properly. Even now, typing this out, the emotion it drags out of me is powerful. It was all there. All of my dreams. All of it. And it will go down as probably the greatest experience I've ever had engaging with a piece of media before in my life. Another feeling I walked away with was that of vindication. For a whole year, I maintained that xc3 was the best game in the series, and I argued my theories and explanations for what elements of xc3 were deemed to be holes. I played this and was validated time in and time again. Origin was, in fact, based on core crystal technology. Alvis did, in fact, foresee this disaster and xc1s ending wasnt in vain. Annhilations were, in fact, the results of matter collision. Riku was, in fact, descended from Riki. The Sword of origin was, in fact, effectively acting as a monado replica. These were all things I read into and maintained as truth for the whole time. Only to be routinely told I was reading too far into things, that xc3 had no lore, and that it was wrong to piece together the puzzle. It was vindicating, no, you know what, liberating honestly, for the game to spell it out outright. I was right all along. Xc3 was the thinking man's story. And I was right to love it. To savor it as I did.
Personally, I just wanted 2 more things from FR 1. I wish we got more from Panacea and Linka since I keep forgetting they were supposed to be with the party the whole time despite the fact they're 1/3rd of the City founders we see in the base game who we were told wanted their mentors represented instead. I just didn't feel like either of them had enough agency in the plot but I guess the story did have a lot to juggle 2. I just wanted one more scene at the end where we get to see all of the characters we know living normal lives after everything they've been through and meeting one another after the worlds combined again. All I wanted was to see more of the happy ending they got rather than most of it being implied
great review! that noise also bugged me, you're not the only one. it was driving me nuts! matthew going off at the end is also explained by his founder statue in the base game, it states that he does eventually come back with more scattered city folks, but eventually sets out again for good after the city is more established, said to have left the governing of it to "founder doyle" (na'el). He mostly likely went off that second time to see and travel the world, like A tells him he should do in one affinity scene.
I took my time and just beated it like an hour ago and what an experience. I truly love this series and thank god for that day in 2014 that I decided to pick the first game for Wii. Every game have brought something different and special to my life and I've managed to play them in moments of my life I have needed them the most due to some personal, professional or even family health issues. I feel very nostalgic now that the Klaus Saga is over but I'm also excited for what's in the future because like Noah says at the end of XC3, There are so many paths, we can stop, take a break and cry but even though we don't know what's ahead or what do we actually want, we just have to move and walk on. Thanks for letting us join you in this wild ride Kay, may the future brings us many more special adventures soon.
Awesome video! I just want to point out that Matthew also resembles Fei from Xenogears and his Gigantic beat talent art is reminiscent of Fei's Raijin deathblow. So its not only Eldridge that was a small xenogears reference, but also Matthew himself.
Honestly my favorite thing about fr is how consistent is with the themes of all the series and following them up. It didn't just use visual and musical theming to make it a legacy title but the story itself and without making new additions u relevant which I think is really hard to pull of and fr did it for me. So yeah good dlc will try to complete it 100% glad you also liked it
People didn’t like the Black Mountain progression? I loved it. It reminded me of the progression at the end of XBC2. There was even those rich electric guitar riffs that made me realize that I was in the home stretch.
Black Mountains were great. Lots of twistiness and exploration possibilities that weren't straightforward. Nothing super complex, but enough to make it quite engaging despite lack of openness, so it was a nice change of pace. It was also cool to keep picking up new sidequests so you could dip in and out of there, plus it was basically a rush of collectibles that filled out your final Gem and Accessory unlocks and whatnot, so it felt really fulfilling. I kinda wish it had a boss about halfway through, though. Final areas should always have a mid-boss!
I think that the best part is the fact that it was short, because of that side quests were worth doing and some of them, like the one with rex solving riddles were just too good and full of references
I think it’s really neat how my hopes for base XC3 were the exact opposite from yours yet we both ended up satisfied in the end. I was worried they would lean *too much* into 1 & 2, leaving 3 and its characters unable to truly stand on their own or have their own identity. As such, I was satisfied with the connections we got in the base game, but I thought it would be really cool if the DLC could connect the series in the way you hoped the base game would. Either way, we both got a satisfying wrap up to XC3 as a whole either way, which is great.
9:34 THANK YOU FOR POINTING THAT OUT I was so tired of hearing that damn bird in some of the later areas in the basegame of Xenoblade 3 and then it came back for one of the first areas in Future Redeemed!
Ya that radio, and that object falling back to the planet after the credit roll. Nods to both the past and the future! I'm still shook about the whole thing, having been a xenosaga and xeno series fan forever the trilogy has been such a good ride. This is by far the best DLC to date in the series. I can only hope for the future of the xeno series, perhaps xensaga remade or re-visted. Or even Xenogears making a comeback, who knows. Great review btw, I hope you enjoy the Saga.
9:40 Yo up until now I was thinking I was insane because of that bird sound. Literally opened my windows every time looking for birds because I thought it was real. Now I know why lul
I completely agree with all of your points and I'm just simply so happy that I feel so satisfied and content about the end of the klaus saga thanks to future redeemed. This dlc was what I wanted from base xc3 and more. I cannot wait for what the future has in store for monolithsoft and this one hell of a franchise.
9:26 OMG I thought i was alone on this. For the longest time i thought the sound of birds were coming from outside the game. Even weirder that it continues in the pause menu.
12:54 My friends disapearing from my life after they find a girlfriend(they completed their character arcs) 16:55 I think he's just Riki's child and he's also adopted, so the fur color doesn't matter. Also judging by Rex and Shulk's apearences I doubt Kino grew up wnough to have a child with riku's age
Yeah, probably a child of Riki's. It's funny you mention Riku's age because this dude has lived for hundreds, maybe thousands of years by the time of xc3
I beat it today, took me a little longer because I had a bunch of exams and events. This series is peak fiction. Future Redeemed had the tough job of sticking the landing, but it completely managed it while simultaneously giving and developing completely new characters right here at the end.
Man, my jaw was on the floor for the entirety of the finale and had me shaking the whole time. I've just finished my 8 year journey with this game series, and I've came to a conclusion in the end that I was satisfied with as well. And after finishing a saga after starting from so long ago, I'm kinda burnt out on new games for the time being. I mean, I'm purposely skipping out on Tears of the Kingdom, just to have a mental break lol. I'll pick it up later on though.
I much preferred the job classes being unique to each character, in all honesty. Made it much easier to concentrate on maxing them out, and makes each character matter. Overall, the gameplay loop is much better in my opinion. Also can I just ask; myself and a few others on the internet have 100% all Affinity Goals apparently - but are missing 15 AP to spend. Does anyone know what we could be missing please? It's bugging me because other than maxing out A I've finished the DLC 😅
i finished this dlc like 3 hours ago perfect timing haha, but this dlc is perfect, i wish we got a picture at the ending of the game of all the crew from all the 3 games, ofc i would;t make sense canon wise but honestly it would be so cool seing all these character again one last time, this dlc is probaly the best dlc i ever played, thank you monolith soft, thank you takahashi, thank you xc2 memes to make me interessed in playing this in october of 2022. i cannot wait for the future :)
I'm still amazed at how well they tied the trilogy so well knowing that Xenoblade wasn't expected to become it's own series. They managed to make the Ontos plot come full circle and that deserves major props to the folks at Monolithsoft
The radio on its own could have almost been an easteregg. But then ending with Joanne Hogg saying, "You're standing ... in front of a door that's been closed for so long," that felt like Takahashi pointedly talking to us. In the DLC that is thematically about moving forward without abandoning the past, he took a moment to tell us he isn't abandoning anything.
making side quests important and linking growth so closely to EXPLORATION are the greatest decisions ever made in a Xenoblade game. I was SO much more immersed in the world because everything I was doing had worth, and got me a clear sense of progression (unlock kit, aff. points). Most sucked into a XB game i’ve ever been and I’m SO happy it’s this one.
Absolutely love your work. No cap the ending of future redeemed was great but I was largely excited to watch videos like this after. I’ve really enjoyed your channel and am glad I found it. 👌
Future Redeemed solidified the Xenoblade Trilogy as my favorite video game series. I wasn’t too satisfied with the ending of base 3 since my expectations for it weren’t met as I anticipated. I interpreted Nintendo saying it would blend Xenoblade 1 and 2 and although it’s what they did, it’s not how I expected it. But little by little my appreciation for it grew despite my gripes with the game as a whole initially. Overall, before FR I thought 3 was a solid game but not better than 1 and 2 imo but still close and solid. But man, once they released the teaser and the trailer, and I played the game, all my expectations were met. I wanted a game where Shulk and Rex could interact, answer some questions from the series as a whole, a bit more fan service and I got just that. And AGAIN FR wasn’t what I had expected initially because I was team epilogue with the DLC but they instead went the prequel route and pulled it off successfully! It’s weird to explain. It wasn’t what I expected at first but they met all my expectations and then some. And then the way they ended it was perfect. I would be lying if I said I didn’t want a cutscene showing all our heroes together once the worlds merged but they don’t need to show us that. What they showed is proof enough that we got the best ending. And I am so satisfied with this ending that I strongly wish this is the end of this Xenoblade saga. They can continue with X. I would like an X for Switch and X2 but I do not want to see Shulk, Rex, Noah, Matthew and them again because I feel like their story and their world ended in a neat way and I don’t want them going through more turmoil. I’ve never played Saga or Gears or any of that so I didn’t have all the context for the radio but despite all of that I think this neatly wrapped up all 3 games. Thank you Takahashi for such a marvelous series. Thank you Nintendo for enabling Monolith Soft and Takashi for creating these games and their pace and view. I look forward to the future of the series in other worlds and stories yet to be explored. These truly were the Xenoblade Chronicles.
I'll admit, I only got into the Xeno series in general in 2015 with the release of Xenoblade 3D. Shame I wasn't around during the time of Xenogears (I wasn't even a thought in my parents heads yet) and when Xenosaga came out I was (1) too young, and (2) didn't care about anything beyond Zelda lmao but seeing Shulk added in Smash 4, having a general curiosity about him, and choosing to try his game out, CHANGED me as a person oml being only 14 and only having a basic understanding of what was going on, it sparked an even bigger curiosity in me, and made me want to know more, especially since I had randomly heard mentions of an older "Xeno series" a couple times. I learned a bit about Xenogears and Xenosaga, it made me want to see more of this series and where it might go. Seeing this series develop, and learning more about where it came from, it had me thirsting for more. When I said this game changed me, I mean it REALLY did. It sparked my interest in psychology and philosophy, it set a really high bar for story telling and gameplay, and it had all the amazing music to go with it. In short: this series ruined all other games for me, and I can say with confidence that it's my favorite of all time, and I can't wait to see where it goes from here on
I haven't played Xenosaga, either, but I have the soundtrack, and was familiar with the name of "Yuriev" as a result. I just had no idea who that was, but I recognised the name immediately.
Im a bit sad they removed class changing, i really loved to see all those looks on the main cast and whished i could do that here too. The rest is still great
Yea, some alternate costumes or something would have been nice. Otherwise, if I wanted a 'different playstyle', I'd just switch to a different character. For a compact experience, that was enough to keep things interesting among what's basically six different classes.
I started crying at the end of this video just because of how strongly I felt the same way. It's so bittersweet to know that this is the end of the Klaus trilogy that I love so much but I am so excited to see what the future has in store. Thanks Kay.
I have been wondering about what it took from Torna, since it otherwise was a culmination of the entire Xeno series to that point and I legitimately couldn't think of anything. Of course, I am now feeling dumb because...yeah, that's the community chart!
Uncle Rex Go Boom 💥 every unique superboss are like wet paper. Exploration is also rewarding despite most of the time, i use the internet to search where the location of treasures and what monster to hunt.
I had a problem where even when i wanted to, i just couldnt cry, i just couldnt release that sadness out of me, but the ending song has made me cry, its perfect, i wish other people experience the impact of that song and this dlc one day
I'm glad i never chained attack on the entire dlc except on the final boss where i prayed for it to not cut out the music and it in fact didn't, all just to see rex one shotting the boss
With only basic knowledge of Saga and Gears, I still popped off so hard, I thought is was amazing. Then the credits showed flashbacks of every Xenoblade game, and I broke. I cried, so hard. I hope nothing but the best for Monolith, and hope to see Xeno return soon.
Some spoiler thoughts: Was not expecting to love Matthew the way I did, who knew what I needed in my life was an east London Roadman JRPG protag, he's so likeable fun to listen to, felt so great hearing him use slang me and my brothers use and he is such an amazing character in terms of his symbolism. A character from the past (in the base game) who we shouldn't forget as he represents striving towards the future. Being the best of Shulk Rex and Noah's character arcs (as in how he summarises their journeys) while being his own person bridging us to the future of the series Loved the replayable gameplay, matching different arts together to make different effects led to hours of customisation for me. Loved Alpha as a villain as he's the exact opposite of Z showing the base game theme of balance between both approaches to go forward to the future while preserving the past. Some things being kept ambiguous was annoying but some other thins like Pnuema and Logos' role as N and Matthew's blade are really fun to talk and theorise about. Loved the NPC's really memorable Voice actors killed it especially Rex's The rewards for simply exploring the world were great Good side quests Amazing music Only a few problems, wish we had more answers to certain questions, more mortivations for that certain character, bigger rewards for completing the community, a cooler secret boss and can't believe they got me so invested in Matthew only to leave his journey unwritten (which is a weird good problem to have? Like I honestly wouldn't mind a clone wars style game about the 1000 years in Aionios with small contained stories about important characters which contribute to the maingame being fun narratives while having important lore which is only because this DLC got me to care about Aionios as a world way more than the base game. But yeah amazing DLC and can't wait for the future andcan't wait for the compilations about hey base game question? DLC answered it here. Thanks for the video good stuff and great to get this off my chest.
9:28 THANK YOU that bird sound was irritating in the base game and hearing it in the first area of FC I was worried it would play the whole game. Great that it didn't. Finally someone else brings it up, I know it's a small nitpick but it's so shrill
Yeah, I think that's the big issue is how shrill it is. Characters repeat voice lines all the time and such, but that doesn't bother me really. The bird song is just so high pitch and incessant.
My personal biggest gripe was that we never got to see Noah and Mio reunite at the end. I know that the worlds fuse back together thus heavily implying they reunite but like…would it have been so hard to just get a non voiced cutscene of them walking towards each other like in XC2? Especially considering that we’re probably never gonna see them in again in any future titles.
DUDE the bird sound. Yes! YES! I think while playing through the base game I legit asked my wife like ten times "was this outside or in game?". and I thought I was the only one getting annoyed by it. hahahaha
Hey Luxin, great video and all but I had such difficulty following. It would greatly help if you could explain everything in nopon terms. Thanks in advance 👍 Jokes aside, genuinely great video
Yoooo about that bird sound affect, I was the exact same, I legit thought it was something outside I even went to check. I avidly avoid sword arch as much as possible now. It's so goddamn annoying.
Xenoblade series is really the best like the Final Fantasy series and ended with a bang like all series reach a end one day. I love the Xenoblade Chronicles three has Final Fantasy like similarities like Type Zero where Noah and everyone dies and gets reborn losing their memories of their past life similar to Ace and his classmates went through. Dissidia Final Fantasy series where Noah and the gang find out there are trapped in a endless cycle and been fighting a endless war by the ones behind it like the Final Fantasy series protagonist's went through and manage to break it for good. Final Fantasy XIII trilogy where like Lighting and her friends, Noah and everyone went against their creators like Z, his like Jack Garland says if he was there to them: "I knew you start spouting !@#$%^& the second I saw you." disciples ,as well Bhunivelze, Linzei, Pulse, other cruel Fal'Cies except for Etro, and Bartandelizs to end the suffering caused by them of everyone working together and restart the worlds with no need for gods anymore except for the dead that need a god for the rebirth of the past lives in the new worlds.
I just loved future redeemed. We get to see old faces, get a ton of fun side quests, etc. About the characters, A, rex and shulk are great, I didn't like matthew too much, but he eventually grew on me, Na'el I like a lot, she just feels wholesome and she serves as great motivation. Personally, I didn't feel like they needed to flesh out nikol too much because it is super easy to see his personality is pretty much nervous shulk, and I felt satisfied by that. However, I do feel like glimmer started out kind of strong, then was just used for rex to play off of (fitting, considering two.) As much as I love her design (words cannot say how nice it is to see pyras design without a super distracting and revealing outfit) I feel like glimmer has a new personality that we just don't really get to see too much of. But really, that is my only gripe. The plot is just as understandable as two and three, just more reliant on memory and less random plot elements. It plays wonderfully off of three, which already plays off of one and two, and feels like a wonderful sendoff to the saga. I got to mention this, personally, seeing characters that have anime-like designs next to trees and buildings that look like they came straight out of a different game had me laughing so badly and I don't know why, but I love it. (Also, the suprises after you beat the game which I won't spoil, were so uneeded, but they just show how much they know their audience and care about what they were making.) Such an experience.
I have played every single xenoblade game at least twice and loved every experience. however future redeemed is the only time i've consistently wanted to do side content. im playing it right now for a second time, almost finishing up, but i cant bring myself to fight the final boss before finishing every sidequest and discovering every landmark
I don't feel exactly the same way you do about the bird, but I hated the owl sound effect in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I have cats, and the sound effect sounds almost exactly like a cat starting to hurl. It did not help that I have surround sound so it would sometimes come from my sides. So I get it, man.
Was just thinking about my experience with Xenoblade 3 today after a long time away. Wanted to see if the DLC ever really fixed that sort of ending. I'm glad it did, but as I went to buy the DLC to play it and realized they want $30 for the rest of the story, I'm torn. Even if I spend the money and get the closure I was looking for, what kind of precedent does that set? And how can I trust Monolith in the future? Future Connected itself felt like a giant red herring with no real bearing on anything after they hyped it up. Regardless of Future Redeemed and such, I can't see myself being all that interested in a future Monolith title, because I just can't trust that I won't be charged again for more answers or to enjoy the ending to a story. I want to, but I don't think I can. At the same time, I really do want the best for them. It's strange and I have no good answers.
My biggest hope for Xenoblade post-Future Redeemed is that they leave the original numbered trilogy alone, and that they follow it with Xenoblade 4 through 6 as another self contained trilogy with just the odd reference to the Klaus saga. That is so that people new to Xenoblade can get into future entries in the franchise without having to play 3 other games and their respective story DLCs/epilogues to get the full enjoyment. Sort of like how Xenoblade is a separate entity to Xenogears, or Xenosaga with the odd reference or paralel to each prior series. I'd also be game to them remastering Xenoblade X like they did Xenoblade 1, and follow it up with 2 sequels, even if they make it a side series.
Curious, if i haven't played torna will that affect my playthrough of future redeemed? I have it i just haven't played the expansion content for xc1 or 2
Torna’s great and worth checking out, but I’d say it has the least amount of impact on Future Redeemed. I do think it’s good to play or familiarize yourself with Future Connected before playing XC3’s DLC, though!
The challenge battles in 2 aren’t canon lmfao, lore wise non of it makes sense especially since Saga and X characters are present. All they wanted to do was include as much of their past works within their best selling game’s paid DLC. Sometimes fan service is literally just fan service. Shulk & Rex’s first meeting is never shown but you can extrapolate that they began communicating during the construction of Origin through light and met during the Intersection itself with the fight against Alpha taking place shortly after.
Future Redeemed ended up being everything I could've hoped for, and more. Before the announcement, I was afraid of the idea of a prequel to 3, fearing that it'd be a retread of Torna, thematically; a distant tragedy with a foregone conclusion. However, we got the best of both worlds; epilogue and prequel. We saw further into the destruction of the first City, and the Founders of the second one. We got to know them as characters, and as people. We saw returning characters iterated upon and continued with consistency and care for their previous appearances. Furthermore, they managed to tie these two threads together using one of base 3's foremost themes; the importance of family. Literally every single one of the Founders is directly related to an established character in some manner. The second City and its constituent houses are not just the wardens of the old guard's ideals, they are their flesh and blood as well. Matthew and A had such a wonderful dynamic. I would be remiss not to state how badly I felt for Na'el. How real her pain was. Nikol and Glimmer were plenty fun by themselves, and seeing them bounce off the others was great. It warmed and broke my heart in equal measure to see Rex and Shulk grapple with fatherhood within the hellscape of Aionios. And both of them reached new heights I had never dreamed of. And lastly, Future Redeemed did not end like Torna did. Sure, Origin was reclaimed by Moebius, and the Cent-Omnia region, along with so many nostalgic locales were annihilated, but the Liberators and the City survivors evacuated. In the end, their hope carried on, and would come full circle, over a millennium later. I once said I'd be disappointed if Shulk, Rex, and Alvis were the only ones to return. And that proved to be wrong, for me. In fact, I'm more content than ever when thinking about the future of the old heroes, something that always vexed me just a little. I don't mind that we didn't get to see favorites of mine, such as Fiora, Dunban, Reyn, Zeke, Morag, Tora, and others. They weren't forgotten. Having ended on such a high note, I think I can be content to see little of them going forward. A nod here or there.
Don't get me wrong, I think the DLC is good, but I have some problems with it, but mostly that it is not on par with Torna. The best part for me was the core gameplay, the spin on the systems was well done, I like especially the progression system with Affinity which helps me keep track on DLC completion, it works well and I would like a system like this in the main game even if it would probably be a little overwhelming. The map is also good, maybe it could have more optional areas to explore, it also seemed more artificially constructed towards story progression in the sense there were very few instances where I refrain from entering a area because the monsters there were too powerful and those areas were small and simple in design, but there is still some depth, I just don't fell like it is on par with the rest of the series maps on that front. On the music, I just think Torna felt much more unique that Future Redeemed, it fells like they could done more (I was really hoping to have another hype Moebius song, but at the end there wasn't one boss fight music that had that wow factor), in this sense Torna fells more fresh than FR. The main narrative for me was the more mediocre part of it all. For Shulk and Rex it felt like there were 0 personal stakes in the story for them (basically nothing affected them), for Matthew there were personal stakes but he ultimately starts and ends the story as the same person, there is no character arc in it. A has 0 character arc, her placement in this actually hurts her as a character, what she would have going for her is the mystery around her, but there is 0 mystery, they could at least used her for some conflict (she could be a good foil to give Matthew some depth with the fact that she was clearly keeping info from him, but no), the only characters that had any sort of arc were Nikol and Glimmer, but it does not look good because the same type of arc was done waaaay better in the main game, but because of the runtime of the DLC it felt somewhat rushed. Nael for me was very weak, the flashbacks were all information that Matthew already previously, so when they showed it to us, it ultimately felt like they didn't impact the present story and it was very weird because the complete collection of them is the set up for Matthew character in this story, but they cannot give Matthew real character progression because we pass the majority of the DLC without those relevant information. Matthew ultimately learns nothing personally which makes him a very flat MC, they could have gave him a flaw (he is suppose to be close to Nael for instance, but he was incapable to sympathize with her). I like they main take-a-way of the story though, but the execution was pretty basic overall (like literally the same plot-beat was done way better in XC2). Overall, the DLC is still good, but Torna is head and shoulders above this one and it is not even close. Also, it felt like they had way less money to spend on cutscenes, the heart-to-hearts being basically looking at the scenery for me fells like they just decided to not animate the conversations. Also, I'm pretty sure they eventually planned on having more hero characters, but that was cut. But to be fair, the only reason this fells somewhat disappointing for me is because Torna exists and I know what they can do for DLC.
9:45 saaaaaaame i found it cool at the beginning but it became so annoying at some point. But it was worst in the base game Btw, the music that REALLY annoys me was the MENU MUSIC! And I was so pissed off when they brought it back in future redeemed! ESPECIALLY when it interrupted the Aurora shelf music!
I loved this game and a lot of your review resonates with me, as a person who’s played all 3 main line Xenoblade games + additional stories, and yet hasn’t had a chance to play Xenosaga There are a few questions that I would still have liked answers for, yet, at large I’m very satisfied with the game! I believe that, as an additional story, I preferred Torna over FR, purely based on how I connected with the main cast I think FR was great, but would have liked a bit more out of Glimmer and Niqol , as well a tiny little bit more of A and Matthew towards the end of the story In regards to accessibility, this is my fave out of all of the different renditions of Xenoblade, to the point is the first one I 100% I still prefer Xeno2+Torna a bit more, but Xeno3+FR are amazing
Something that I absolutely love but don’t see people commenting on is how Matthew very much is a mix of Shulk and Rex. Having Rex’s undying optimism and charisma, while dealing with Shulk’s character arc of revenge and understanding the enemy. FR was really the culmination in many ways.
I really wish Matthew was in a official game. He’s a Vandham that is the main character, how can you not love that!?
@@TheJaredPunch Future Redeemed is official???
@@SpaceFlamingo07 Official as in a full Xenoblade game. You know, the same hour scale as 2 or 1. Non DLC
i was not expecting to like matthew as much i did, lmao, what an amazing protagonist of like a dlc of 20 hours, i was expecting the classic trope of character being annoying and never taking things seriously, the writters proving once again why they are the goat lol.
also he have a similar name to mine which is "matheus" which is matthew but brazillian :)
they also gave him a TON of reyn, which i’m sure we all appreciate.
Future Redeemed really felt like Monolith Soft saying “Thank you for loving Xenoblade as much as we do”. It was a such love letter and just so satisfying. And then for it to be like “And yeah, we have a ton more coming for you.” They’re just so so so good at this.
One my favorite developer alongside capcom
“Wait for another four more years to see another xeno game”
@@therealjaystone2344 it’ll still be Blade, they said so themself. Just a new story saga set in the faraway future.

@@boopergoober Xenoblade 3's Ask the Developer interviews. Specifically Part 3 at the very end.
I also loved his relationship with Nikol, and the one scene where Rex is all like, "here comes Shulk's fatal weakness", I died ^^
Heck Matthew even calls Rex "a man after my own heart", or something like that :3
This dlc makes you appreciate the main game so much more.
This series changed my life, and I am grateful for the years of entertainment. This series is magical
Personally, I just wanted 2 more things from FR
1. I wish we got more from Panacea and Linka since I keep forgetting they were supposed to be with the party the whole time despite the fact they're 1/3rd of the City founders we see in the base game who we were told wanted their mentors represented instead. I just didn't feel like either of them had enough agency in the plot but I guess the story did have a lot to juggle
So yeah good dlc will try to complete it 100% glad you also liked it
Rex’s arrival into Future Redeemed will forever be my top moment in gaming. He took some of his most annoying lines, and made them iconic.
I like ur attitude, kiddo
omg i never thought about it that way
Joke's on you, those lines have always been iconic, he just elevated them to the next level
People didn’t like the Black Mountain progression? I loved it. It reminded me of the progression at the end of XBC2. There was even those rich electric guitar riffs that made me realize that I was in the home stretch.
Because you need to have the supplies in order to proceddd.
It was really worth the wait for both, the dlc and your video, thank you very much for all the work as always Kay :')
Thank you, Allan! Glad to hear you enjoyed the DLC
9:29 Finally, someone said something!
I hate to say I love that bird noise, I would whistle it every time I heard it in the base game lmaoo
Same here lol.
9:34 THANK YOU FOR POINTING THAT OUT
I was so tired of hearing that damn bird in some of the later areas in the basegame of Xenoblade 3 and then it came back for one of the first areas in Future Redeemed!
This is my GOTY. I don't think anything could top this
I completely agree with all of your points and I'm just simply so happy that I feel so satisfied and content about the end of the klaus saga thanks to future redeemed. This dlc was what I wanted from base xc3 and more. I cannot wait for what the future has in store for monolithsoft and this one hell of a franchise.
Could not agree more! Especially about what you said regarding the exploration. Couldn't stop doing sidequests lol
I love the affinity views, but I hate that we can't rewatch them like we do for story cutscenes (or like we did for H2H iirc)
That's a very fair criticism!
9:26 OMG I thought i was alone on this. For the longest time i thought the sound of birds were coming from outside the game. Even weirder that it continues in the pause menu.
12:54 My friends disapearing from my life after they find a girlfriend(they completed their character arcs)
16:55 I think he's just Riki's child and he's also adopted, so the fur color doesn't matter. Also judging by Rex and Shulk's apearences I doubt Kino grew up wnough to have a child with riku's age
Yeah, probably a child of Riki's. It's funny you mention Riku's age because this dude has lived for hundreds, maybe thousands of years by the time of xc3
@@SilverRay85 yeah xDD but I meant his age in FR specifically since time must have flowed the same for him as it did for shulk
Man, this review did sure made me feel full of beans...
They managed to make the Ontos plot come full circle and that deserves major props to the folks at Monolithsoft
imagine if kingdom hearts managed to tell such a great story with just the same amount of games
You killed about the songs for bosses and this bird sound got me too😂
making side quests important and linking growth so closely to EXPLORATION are the greatest decisions ever made in a Xenoblade game. I was SO much more immersed in the world because everything I was doing had worth, and got me a clear sense of progression (unlock kit, aff. points). Most sucked into a XB game i’ve ever been and I’m SO happy it’s this one.
I love that bird sound effect. Adds to the atmosphere
So glad I picked up Xenoblade Chronicles at a random Gamestop in 2011. Had no idea what was in store, but I am glad I was here for the whole ride :D
I nearly cried after playing Future Redeemed, that ending music REALLY hits home. Talk about a culmination!
I like to think that the Black Mountains track sounds kinda similar to Jin's theme because of the fight at the Omega Fetter in Tantal
Thanks Kay.
oh my god. i'm not alone on the bird noises.
I have been wondering about what it took from Torna, since it otherwise was a culmination of the entire Xeno series to that point and I legitimately couldn't think of anything. Of course, I am now feeling dumb because...yeah, that's the community chart!
When I started a chain attack during a fog beast battle, the music didn't get overwritten. It was great.
Thank you for all the awesome Xeno content Kay!!
Some spoiler thoughts:
Was not expecting to love Matthew the way I did, who knew what I needed in my life was an east London Roadman JRPG protag, he's so likeable fun to listen to, felt so great hearing him use slang me and my brothers use and he is such an amazing character in terms of his symbolism. A character from the past (in the base game) who we shouldn't forget as he represents striving towards the future. Being the best of Shulk Rex and Noah's character arcs (as in how he summarises their journeys) while being his own person bridging us to the future of the series
Loved the replayable gameplay, matching different arts together to make different effects led to hours of customisation for me.
Loved the NPC's really memorable
Voice actors killed it especially Rex's
The rewards for simply exploring the world were great
Good side quests
Amazing music
Only a few problems, wish we had more answers to certain questions, more mortivations for that certain character, bigger rewards for completing the community, a cooler secret boss and can't believe they got me so invested in Matthew only to leave his journey unwritten (which is a weird good problem to have? Like I honestly wouldn't mind a clone wars style game about the 1000 years in Aionios with small contained stories about important characters which contribute to the maingame being fun narratives while having important lore which is only because this DLC got me to care about Aionios as a world way more than the base game.
But yeah amazing DLC and can't wait for the future andcan't wait for the compilations about hey base game question? DLC answered it here.
Thanks for the video good stuff and great to get this off my chest.
That bird sound. YES. 😂😂😂
Black mountains was my favorite to explore. I can see how people would disagree but I found it refreshing, well paced and interesting.
So glad someone else pointed out that bird sound effect. That was my least favourite sound effect in the base game too
No way the black mountains were a pain…. It was so short lol
Speaking of Matthew's voice acting, my favourite line of his is when he enters the Black Mountains and talks about his balls freezing off 😂😌
My personal biggest gripe was that we never got to see Noah and Mio reunite at the end. I know that the worlds fuse back together thus heavily implying they reunite but like…would it have been so hard to just get a non voiced cutscene of them walking towards each other like in XC2? Especially considering that we’re probably never gonna see them in again in any future titles.
My dog always gets nervous and starts barking when she hears the bird. And, as you know, you hear it a lot this time...
DUDE
the bird sound. Yes! YES!
I think while playing through the base game I legit asked my wife like ten times "was this outside or in game?". and I thought I was the only one getting annoyed by it. hahahaha
Hey Luxin, great video and all but I had such difficulty following. It would greatly help if you could explain everything in nopon terms. Thanks in advance 👍
Jokes aside, genuinely great video
Yeah it's the culmination of years of gaming
Holy fuck, thank you for adressing THAT FUCKING BIRD SOUND! I went mad hearing it every 15 seconds!
I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been talked about that much haha
Yoooo about that bird sound affect, I was the exact same, I legit thought it was something outside I even went to check. I avidly avoid sword arch as much as possible now. It's so goddamn annoying.
If you recorded you're playthough I'd love if you uploaded the vod to UA-cam
That missing 0.5 from the 10/10 is solely your annoyance of Bird_Whistle.mp3. And
Z's lack of development
@@KayJulers okay that gives me time cuz I'm broke rn and just finally finished xc3 but I'll jump into future connected soon, thank you!
A Shulk and Rex team up to save the world! What’s not to love!? Also XC2’s DLC is now canon! No one is changing my mind. Also I finally got KOSMOS.
Wasn't XC2's DLC always canon?
As in the portal shit, not torna
And no its still not cannon

"Yes, one third of the games party is returning characters"
One half, actually, since A is effectively Alvis
THE BIRD THANK YOU I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE GOING NUTS
Bro's #1 Opp is a high pitched bird
HOLY SHIT THE BIRD SONG DROVE ME NUTS.
But it was worst in the base game
Btw, the music that REALLY annoys me was the MENU MUSIC! And I was so pissed off when they brought it back in future redeemed! ESPECIALLY when it interrupted the Aurora shelf music!
I loved this game and a lot of your review resonates with me, as a person who’s played all 3 main line Xenoblade games + additional stories, and yet hasn’t had a chance to play Xenosaga
There are a few questions that I would still have liked answers for, yet, at large I’m very satisfied with the game! I believe that, as an additional story, I preferred Torna over FR, purely based on how I connected with the main cast
I think FR was great, but would have liked a bit more out of Glimmer and Niqol , as well a tiny little bit more of A and Matthew towards the end of the story
In regards to accessibility, this is my fave out of all of the different renditions of Xenoblade, to the point is the first one I 100%
I still prefer Xeno2+Torna a bit more, but Xeno3+FR are amazing
The end of a saga we will miss you Xenoblade
Oh my god someone finally address the bleeding birds.
