    Hello, I have a question for you. I already have a non-Xiaomi internet router. It works pretty well and I don't want to change it. Is it possible to extend the coverage of my existing wifi network (PPPOE) in the house with 2pack nodes (Xiaomi AX3000) to increase the internet coverage without replacing my existing router, turning the nodes into a second and third point for seamless internet access, by scattering them in various places around the house without being wired to the existing non-Xiaomi router? Is it possible and how is this done?

    • @WootDini
      @WootDini  11 днів тому

      Heya
      It's not possible mesh wise and only have one ssid. You would have to use repeater mode (which is garbage) to have one ssid, so you may as well buy cheaper repeaters which I don't recommend.
      Best thing to do is use cable to the first node and then extend mesh from there but that will mean 2 seperate ssids.
      Honestly not a good idea to cross manufacturers in home network because QoS, security etc.
      If signal is an issue try moving the original router more central in your home. That's the best practice

      Heya :) make sure you factory reset the second one (it sometimes causes issues if it is on when setting up the primary). It is possible its already meshed itself so check in the app if its there

      Not conventionally no. You would have to share it over IP which is possible (I have never done it before) but also they will be a mirror not independant

    Big disadvantage of this mesh router is that it can only "daisy chain" from a backhauled router and then you cannot set a stationary device to a specific router in the mesh system like other brands. I have to restart stationary devices like tv's, aircons, speakers, etc every day or multiple times a day as it would suffer from weak or no signal as it would connect to a mesh router far away with poor signal for some reason. Signal is also fairly weak as I have cheap no name brand AC mesh routers that that have a good signal between and while the AX3000 and AX32000 only get a poor or intermittent signal at the same spots. If you have a brick house you only get a signal in the same room or the room next to it. If you jump a room then you need to backhaul.

    • @WootDini
      @WootDini  3 місяці тому

      Heya thanks for the feedback :)
      So I have brick walls and it does struggle a little. Still think it's good value for money.
      Are you sure you can't assign static IPs to a device though? I did not even think of that and may be an oversight from Xiaomi which I'm sure they will fix in an update.
      Sorry you experience is not great. I have minimal issues, it's just when it's crossing 2 walls that there are problems as I don't backhaul (rental Hazzard)

      Heya
      I Personally have never had that model with me. My advice would be to factory reset and update the firmware on the device through IP address (and direct LAN cable will help)
      Make sure all other mesh devices are off when doing this.
      Then set it up as primary and see if you can see in app. Once you can then turn on and add the others (you may need to soft factory reset the others )

      Hey
      Generally speaking if your primary has issues you are just extending those issues with an extender. It's like trying to put a solid concrete foundation on a chalk base.
      Rather get your primary routers sorted or try find the issue on your router. Remember it's not always the router that causes issues, could be cable issue or even ISP.
      You need to diagnose the issue then fix

    • @WootDini
      @WootDini  4 місяці тому

      Heya
      Yes but it will be a waste. That drive is past the capacity of even thunderbolt 4.
      I would look at a drive thats 5000 rather if you aiming for that speed and then get a TB4 ready case.
      Just make sure you have TB4 or similar.
      If you have USB gen 3.2 gen 2x2 then that halves the speed of TB4 and gen 2x1 is half again.
      Buy according to your interface speed

    Hello Mister, I have a question I don’t know if you’ll find the time to answer, but would it make a difference in speed if I got one of these and used as a repeater and plugged it into my computer with Ethernet over my old Wi-Fi 5 extender? I hear that extender halve the speed, but will this do the same?

    • @WootDini
      @WootDini  3 місяці тому +1

      Heya. Repeaters do half speed yea. Not exact but close.
      Mesh is better but the further away from the primary you go the speed will drop.
      There is something called backhaul which means if you run ether from primary to secondary, the speed will be more or less the same. Xiaomi can backhaul automatically (some people have had issues) but you must put it in AP mode not extender or see if it auto configs as mesh backhaul
      Either way mesh will be better but both devices need to be compatible Xiaomi mesh, if you use it as a repeater from another brand the speed difference will only be as a result of signal strength.
      Best option is cable backhaul

    Great Video! I recently bought the pair but whenever Im connected on the mesh node, my speeds are are dramatically downgraded. They are connected through ethernet backhaul and Im wondering if I missed a setting to configure? Have you experience anything similar? If I connect to the primary node I get the appropriate speeds from my ISP. Thanks!

    • @WootDini
      @WootDini  4 місяці тому +1

      Heya
      There are several reasons for this. But 2 main ones.
      1) node proximity: primary will always be faster. It's the tertiary nodes proximity to the primary that massively effects speed. So ensure best line of site and distance. Ensuring you are not stretching the nodes too far. The suggestion from Xiaomi (and every manufacturer) overstates what the signal strength is. Compensate by adding a node potentially.
      2) device proximity to tertiary. So bearing in mind point 1, if the node is already experiencing degradation and you are further away from the tertiary node, it's a double impact because you are pulling through multiple sources.
      Both points have the same solution. Ensure best line of site and consider adding a node inbetween far distances to improve speed.
      Hope this helps

    • @NicoloSantos
      @NicoloSantos 4 місяці тому

      @@WootDini Thanks for the info!
      Does this solution still apply if the nodes are connected through a wire? I understand that speed drops are par for the course when using wifi backhaul but using a wired connection should help mitigate that?
      One forum post suggested I connect the ethernet on the tertiary LAN port instead of WAN port and while it did work for a bit,(got the right speeds and node showed up in the mesh network) it ended up reverting back to the throttled speed. For context I have a 600mbps plan from the ISP, got those speeds on the primary node but drops to about 100mbps or less when connected to the tertiary node.
      Would setting the nodes to AP mode help? Thanks!

    • @WootDini
      @WootDini  4 місяці тому +1

      @@NicoloSantos Heya
      Yep this is called backhaul and it is definately a good option. Cables get messy but its the best solution.
      Sorry I did not mention that as an option
      And yes AP mode is a good option. See if it auto configs through mesh backhaul before manually doing AP

    will this router ever be updated? • @WootDini
      @WootDini  4 місяці тому

      Heya
      Region won't affect the speed of the router. The reason for setting the region is because all smart devices like the routers need to be on the same region as your mi app to be able to access.
      If your app is UAE and router is Saudi etc you cannot make changes from the app.
      It will not affect its ability, just convenience
