    I am still new and find that at 90% I struggle off the ground. If I get the weight up I have no problem above the knee to lock out and can complete touch and go reps much easier then pulling from a dead stop. Hopefully incorporating these in my training will help. Is there a one of these that I could focus on specifically in my case? Thank you for all the great content.

    • @Mylada
      @Mylada 6 років тому +3

      I would suggest doing all training with only dead stop reps. In addition just keep working on the starting position and tension.

      what if a person (ME) is very bad at rep work? Like, lets say I can pull a single at 9 rpe (210kg) but at the same time I'm dead after 150kg x5.

  • @mkl1464
    @mkl1464 6 років тому +3

    Why aren't box squats beneficial for squats? It trains literally everything except your quads. Quads are important but so are your glutes, hamstring and lower back.

    • @JuggernautTrainingSystems
      @JuggernautTrainingSystems  6 років тому +4

      Kian Loong Mui hamstrings do very very little for the squat but if you’d like to have box squats in your program, have at it

    • @grantbrown1695
      @grantbrown1695 6 років тому +3

      You kinda answered your own question. It trains all those things except THE MOST IMPORTANT MUSCLE. Using your analogy it has about as much carryover to a squat as a skull crusher does for bench. Not no carry over mind you. Just a small enough amount of usefullness to not be a justifiable exercise when compared to the alternatives

    • @johnh6928
      @johnh6928 5 років тому

      @@grantbrown1695 triceps are important tho. Id compare it with a lat pulldown for bench maybe

    • @grantbrown1695
      @grantbrown1695 5 років тому

      @@johnh6928 if we are still talking about the box squat then it's just not worth it as a raw lifter. Between the amount of volume needed for the comp squat and deads you are already at a good amount of glute volume. With the remaining amount of tolerable volume left there are just better alternatives than a box squat. If we are talking about triceps then I'd say the argument holds too. Why do a skull crusher when you can close Grip mention and get better carryover to your bench? Like sure skull Crushers can be a reasonable choice for extra hypertrophy but that's an indirect benefit to the bench when compared to a close variation.

    • @ElCapinyoazz
      @ElCapinyoazz 6 років тому +1

      I train opposite stance (conventional) regularly, rotating between pulling sumo and conv about every 3 weeks in training. That seems to keep me from getting too beat up. Also a long, slow warmup with dynamic stretching, activation drills, etc.

  • @ethan-

    Two other good exercises I like:
    Basically a halting deadlift + (not strict) row. Use the momentum you generate off the floor to row the bar once it gets just below the knee.
    Small deficit Coan style deadlift: pull from a deficit, lower maintaining tension, this way when the plates are just touching the floor your hands are about where you'd normally start the deadlift taking bar bend into account. Touch the ground as little and lightly as possible before pulling again, or even don't touch at all, Spoto style. Massive overload at floor level.

    dude a so called coan style deadlift is nothing more then a deadlift with controlle on the way down and then a slight pause then go again with out loosing tension . it's called lifting with common sense . to many people idolize that dude an giving him credit for shit he didn't even devolp I was doing that with out even being told it was called a ridiculous name like that. I'll just call them deadlifts with more controlle instead of a stupid name like a coan deadlift . people on here with there idolize worship practice. chad your a pretty nice guy so no attack on you man but that edd dude did not invent the wheel. he used his LEVERAGES to his advantage for a trophy 🏆 but he did not invent the way and he was not the strongest to ever do it . there people who did a real deadlift called a conventional deadlift that lifted more then he did . . I know there's a lot of people that praise this dude like he's something special but in my world he's just another lifter and he thinks he's more important then what he is because of people that kiss his ass .

      Also don't continue progressing in weight if your scapula keeps moving. If you do so you'll just be setting yourself up for injury. Personally I don't like face pulls, so if you don't like those try out a high row where you touch near your nipples/upper chest. Keep the weights light and focus on feeling the contraction, try to really retract your scapula you may even want to do these unilaterally (one side at a time)

    Brandon Allen is undeniably a phenomenal powerlifter. However, he’s gotta own up to the 88 and Totenkopf tattoos along with the WP claims made by other people who have known him. If he said “Yeah they were a result of mistakes I made when I was younger”, people would probably drop it. But if he keeps dancing around this, it will never go away

    Great! I always have weak legs so starting deadlift is hardest part.
    I could do from knees 300kgx5 but from floor only about 220kg.
    Chicken legs ha ha. Those result from 25years ago. Now I mostly running and cycling.
    Of course 2 times per week some basic strength exercises and core work. 54 can't do same weights as 25. Still like gym it is my temple ha ha.
