There's something very liberating in making music with such a "limited" piece of equipment - not thinking about the million options which modern daws provide. The sound is amazing as well. Well done!
only a 12bit sampler like the sp 1200 will do that to a beat, sound or anything you throw at it. it's Polyphony - 8 voice Sampler - 26.040 kHz, 12 bit sampling; 4 2.5 second blocks (10 seconds); 256 KB memory, regardless of how you get it in there. Love the sp1200, will never part with mine.
Except every other beat sounds the same
@freemindas nah, it's more beatmakers problem than machines. you actually can do lots of super interesting stuff eith sp1200. you can listen to "10 seconds vol.1" by a-trak, it was made entirely on this samoler but sounds nothing like typical "lofi boombap type beats"
I think some drummers in the 60's knew that they was going to create a new form of music in the future by tuning the kick and snare drum very high.
Michael David 💯
@@funkynigerian8886 Ironically was to use overcome the wave disadvantage of the horn sections and big band ensembles used before
Could you elaborate? Are you saying drums that are tuned high are better suited for sampling?
@@bennyfairfax1 it's the fact that you could pitch them very low and still retains character
probably to poke thorugh the speakers at the time.
The SP1200 is like the Gibson Les Paul of sample-based hiphop.
Not gonna lie the WuTang Show got me here that sp1200 is spectacular
Me too, I can always chill to anything by Onyx, Wu-Tang, Cypress Hill etc. I want one of these now!
@@zippyspinifex Not trying to be that nerdy “know-it-all” head, I would simply point out that both Muggs and Rza were well known ASR-10 enthusiasts, not SP-1200 users. I think the first Two Cypress Hill albums were mostly SP-1200, “Jump Around” and some of those classic Muggs beats, but after Rza and Gza’s initial solo albums prior to Wu-Tang, most classic Wu-Tang stuff was the S950, Eps-16, and ASR-10 if I’m not mistaken. There might have been a couple of SP-1200 beats, but I don’t really hear it too much on Enter The 36 Chambers. I would love to know for sure, though. The ASR-10 obviously became his instrument of choice: he invented the pitched up soul sample thing that Kanye copied ten years later and actually gets credit for by ignorant people nowadays. In other words, you might want to check out the EPS-16 (El-P just used it to go back to the basics with RTJ4) or the ASR-10. But if you want that SP-1200 sound, do NOT buy a more expensive, limited, and possibly faulty vintage SP1200; buy an Isla 2400. Peace
@@79Glitch Muggs was an avid SP 1200 User
Thats not gonna fit in your backpack man :/
@@79Glitch if thats the case, fuck kanye and his delusional ass fans
if you continue making them, I'll happily continue watching☺️
Rivkah Hannah thank you hannah..I will continue for sure!😊
Rivkah Hannah check out my work
One of the best breakdowns of a Boom Bap beat I've seen in my life. FLAWLESS.
The 1200 + the S950, solid stuff right there. can't get enough of that vintage gear, mad respect and inspiration.
This is epic, it is sad that they don´t make these samplers any more,..the sound is unbeatable, and the siplicity,..the limitations boosts the creativity,...nice to see the S-950 with the SP-1200,..Great beat btw,..thanks for shareing Bro´
check out islainstruments sp2400
Nicely done!
(Great work on the video editing too and very much appreciated that the video is about the music and the gear and not you, with the majority of stuff like this on UA-cam the person makes it about themselves so it’s refreshing to see that you focused on what people want to see) respect!
Mad Props from Poland! That art od sampling is the right Word for your work bro!Much appriciated for sharing this content! One Love and more dope beats to flood this modern wave!
That's some real hip hop. Hip hop lives on thanks to people like you, keep it real man!
The sound of the SP-1200 make me think about the Machine drum UW.

This is fucking beautiful... never delete this.
Taught me capabilities I didn't know the SP1200 had. Best ever along with the MPC 60 AND 3000. E-mu Is legendary and 12 bit Is the perfect sweet spot.
we need more of these sp beat making vids please!
Beautiful.
I loved sp 1200 perfect jab my friend
Beautiful
Dope man...This makes me miss my old sp1200
These are heaven to me.
Love the routine with the s950, got a s900 myself and never thought about resampling the whole sequence as one note. Would always chop everything and record separate stuff in the S900 and assign them to a keygroup.
You made me win some time ahah.
Cheers
Makes me sad hardly anybody is making beats like this anymore. Awesome track!
probs cus no one wants to get sued for using uncleared samples
ghostduster1 because the SP1200 is hard to find and expensive as hell. You’re gonna see a resurgence of this kind of music when the more affordable and modern SP2400 drops next year.
Trust me it's not the end of the world, just like last night I just made a new Boom Bap Jazz beat on sound cloud 💪💪💪
if you wanted to make music for profit, sampling isnt the way to go but hardware like this now making music limited compare to daws. The SP404s sounds really good tho
@@DJ-Coma Was also waiting on the S2400, but pulled the trigger and bought a real sp1200 instead
