I have a couple of questions :):
(1) How long have you been producing, did you start with 'vintage' gear? If not when did you switch over to it?
(2) What's your process for tracking out into a DAW? I've been working with a 2000/ s950 and have recently bought a Yahama MG10xu but currently everything I make is trapped in this gear. I'm finding good quality guides/ advise hard to come by online, so would be interested to know what you do?
1) I started making beats 8 years ago on FL Studio, didnt like the work flow of „clicking together“ beats and soon bought a NI Maschine MK1. I was then working with this Maschine for like 2 years until I copped my Akai MPC 2000XL back in December 2013. So I made the switch to „vintage“ gear a little more than 6 years ago. By the end of 2014 I bought my Akai S950 which I then used in combination with the MPC for another year and a half until I finally copped my SP1200 in 2016.
2)I‘m constantly trying to improve my mixing out as well, currently I‘m tracking out the channels separately, from my mixing board, recording into my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 interface. Then do the finishing touches within my DAW. Right now I’m using the Maschine MK1 software but thinking of making the switch to ableton.
Thanks for your questions, I hope I could answer it all :)
Yo I’m sorry if ur trying to safeguard ur samples but I REALLY gotta know what that drum sample is.
Such a good find by you bro love ur work.
@@ChiefRugged Thank you! I hope you're planning another 12 bit madness soon, I love these videos.
that’s a Mark James record😉
Most underrated part of these videos is the editing. Simple but effective. The start and endpoint thing is super clever!
thanks will! I always try to come up with something new :)
what's he doing? Im confused
That beat is amazing! 💯
Maybe just me. But loved the placements of the subtitles.. whole thing was Dope !!!
Don't know what's cooler...the beats or the editing of the subtitles 😂😎👍
Always an extreme pleasure to watch your uploads, lovely trademark knockin snare with dreamy main sample and deft horn licks.
glad you dig it brother!!
one of the most detailed videos on the legendary SP! Mad props!!!
thanks man
I pray that in my next life I will be blessed w/ skills like this. As always amazing vid.
thanks!
If you have good taste, you need only practice, practice and practice. Even the @BooooooomBox need a practice and he have a loot of time practicing befere he relase something. Some people will be need 100h of training to reach for example "level 2", and the other people will be need 150h to get the same level. You need training in everything!!!
It's work, Put in work and youll get better
It aint never to late to pick up a hobby like there. Everybody starts from scratch
I can’t even describe how disgusting this beat is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 thank you for another awesome vid!
SAMEC BEATZ thanks man!

I noticed how you said skip to the 12 minute mark.....but true samplers and just the fans of the art will watch this whole thing from start to finish, I know I did, and loved every bit of it

thanks man!
I like how you showed this struggle of trying to sequence dope vid
One of my favorite jams in UA-cam. Its tight work men
thank you!
Cool Video 👼🏼 Love the sounds
that main sample is fire,,, all i gotta say is that quincy produce the heck outta that person you sampled and had dave grusin on keys and greg phillinganes on synth bass. Im trying to not break the dj sample code by revieling the sample, but giving appreciation on sampling a nice dreamy cut!!!!
Always look forward for your videos
thanks fam!

Been looking forward to a new vid!!dopeness!!!
thanks!
Really cool trick with start point and note repeat. Will try for sure
I use it all the time!
what's he doing? Im confused
@@frankjamesbonarrigo7162 he's truncating (editing or erasing) the unwanted parts of the drum break and keeping what he wants into individual one-shot sample hits. Setting the SP 1200's Sequence Auto Correct to Hi Res, followed by holding down the repeat button simultaneously with whichever button the sample is assigned to of choice. (1-8) will allow you to hear any unwanted audio present before the actual zero-point line (start) of the kick, snare and hihat samples.
Amazing bro! Fireee, big up 🙏🔥
thanks fam!
Dope man 🔥👊🏻

Now I wonder: can Chief Rugged make a West Coast/G-Funk style beat?......... 🤔
hmmm🤔
Seeing as the SP1200 is his speciality. It would be only right to make a Johnny J type beat🔥💯
Whole westside connection was also produced complete on the sp.
Dope
thank you!
🔥
Fire as fk
Fuck!!!! I definitely can hear Mobb Deep on it!!!!!!

Gute Rezepte auf deinem kanal..schmeckt

Hello brother. Is that a lp120x turntable? If so I'd like to hear your opinion on it. Currently sampling on pt01 and I'm looking to buy a better one. Thanks in advance!
Love your videos
Do you think you will buy the sp2400?
thanks man! I don‘t think that I‘ll buy one. I think it‘s a cool project and it’s really gonna help a lot for bringing others into the beautiful world of that 12bit sound. but for me owning a 1200 I can‘t make out any benefits from copping a 2400, it doesn‘t have a feature I‘m eagerly missing on my 1200.
BooooooomBox that makes total sense. I would also love to buy a 1200 but my money says otherwise lol. Do you think it’s worth me getting a 2400 instead of the 1200?
@@E_Rico the S2400 has more standard features that you would find in most samplers nowadays. Plenty of outs, headphone jack, higher bit rate sampling, way increased sample time. The workflow is quicker and you don’t have to use your creativity as much with the sp1200. Not as much character as the sp1200 though.
@@buckbumble wait are you saying you have less creativity with the 2400 or 1200?
@@E_Rico less personal creativity with the S2400 purely because you have so many more features. You have the option of 24 bit or higher or 12 bit sampling, plus you can cut up to 1tb SD card in it. You can get damn close but I don’t think anything will replicate the feel and sound of the 1200.
What album is that drum sample off? 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’d also like to know!
Hey man. I publish a magazine called ‘DIG’ that invites crate diggers to chat a little about a record that means a lot to them. I’d love to get you in a future issue if you’re up for it. Love your vids.
thanks martin! shoot me a dm on instagram @chiefrugged, i‘m interested:)
Hey Martin ! Where can I find your magazine ?

Tell me about it. Helped
Me get into the idea. I got an SP 404 to start with
May I ask you the very first vinyl that you sampled in the video? props!
I miss my sp 12 just got a mpc one the pads suck
this track is dope just dont like that first tom sounds like the metronome tought it was until hear the final video 🤣😂
thanks!
What tom sound
Everybody wanna be 1993 Pete Rock ..FOH
I wanna be 1996 Nick Wiz
I love this, proper handcrafted beat making. I really like this extended video as well, it shows your workflow and decision making off more which for novice beat makers like me is as close as I will get to watching a master craftsman work.
thank you for your kind words!
Nice
thanks!
