Great Video but... It looks so easy so I tried this myself, recorded myself and I couldn't do it. I came back to this video few times to check what I'm doing wrong and tried again and still nothing. I believe one more key point here is they position is very very very low. They bend their knees and lean forward. They keep racquet paralel as mentioned but it is like 10 cm above the ground! See 1:33 - his hand is nearly at his ankle level. To be able to do that with every shot you need to have legs from steel... You need to start from high postion, go to low, hit the ball, synchronize all your parts of the body with the ball then recover back to high position. That's just look easy...

Think about drawing the letter "J" with your racquet...that's what helped me

Great teaching tool. Also important to executive a good BH from the corner are a quick first step from the T area, twisting the shoulders left, and placing the racquet well behind the body to store energy released through the hand and racquet to the ball. Do you have any vids like this of the top women pros? thanks :O)

    - Love how the palmer backhand is smooth. (My favorite from this video)
    - Darwish backhand has a good acceleration provided by the release of the forearm. (It's pretty alwas the case with him).
    - Shabana backhand here is not his classic one. He used to open a lot his racket face to have like a spin which make the ball stick to the back off the court.
Most stylish backhand ever is mohamed abbas.

I don't know what parallel to the floor looks like. Can someone tell me at what time I can see a good example here?

Great video. I am a bit late but would be an even more revealing video if this was analyzed for a backhand crosscourt shot. The reason is that if a crosscourt shot is done 'wrong', then it would be picked off easily. Hence, the technique will have to be perfect. With straight shots, as long as you are hitting the ball straight (not touching the side wall and deep), then it is generally not picked off

@MrMongolianMonkey A, it is well known that the glass courts are alot deader at the back that traditional courts, so they dont have more time, in fact they have less.
B, jonathon power is a former world number one, winning 36 tour titles, and regarded as one of the best, so who are you to comment on his technique?

I noticed how short Lincou and Gaultier's swings are, they dont' tend to have a 'whip' action unlike Power where the backhand is 'wound up'. They're the same on the forehand...must be something the French coaches are keen on. Gaultier's backhand is great, He hits most balls very flat and when he's hitting a straight drive that has gone behind him he really opens the face of the racket up and manages to hit a straight drive. Hisbakhand kill is really hit flat too...it just dies
