      Enn, I get it. Mine wears those white shirts too and they must be bright. The biggest struggle for me is keeping the collars nice and this technique or the OxiCkean gel stick really help there. What are your other laundry challenges?

      Hi Laura, I know its crazy but I love laundry. The washing and folding and putting away. Ironing...not so much. I get it out right away and hang things up so ironing is limited! Hahaha! What are your laundry dilemmas? What can I address for you from The Laundry Lab?

    Hey Denise, this was a great video. I have to try that powdered oxi bright. I love the idea of that instead of liquid bleach. BTW...I love your washing machine!!! Mine is SO old and I have to get a new one. Does yours have an agitator in the middle? I am really trying to find one like that. Love, Mary❤️😘❤️

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  4 роки тому +3

      Hi Mary, thank you. I get so many complements on that washing machine. Not, it does NOT have an agitator in the middle. It is one of those high efficiency less water models. It kind of rolls the clothing under and senses how much water to apply to the load. On a scale of 1 - 10, I'd give it an 8 or 9. Mine came from Sears which is now defunct. I'd try Menard's or even Best Buy. Unless you've got a good appliance store in your town.
      Love that Oxy Whitener. It really does keep the shirts bright and those are not new shirts. I just try to take good care of them. You know, old school! Thank you for stopping by. BTW, does your husband fish?

    I’m not sure I understand the process. Do you apply liquid detergent to the collar first? What are you applying in what order? What do you use to make a paste out of the OxiClean? Water? Liquid detergent? I wish I understood this stuff intuitively, but I simply don’t. I’d ask my mother but my lack of knowledge exasperates her. Also, she still uses processes that were state of the art in the early 1960s.
    I hate to burst anyone’s bubble but the reason why our ancestors were able to get gleaming whites was because they had more effective products - except they were loaded with phosphates and peroxides, which were banned by the EPA in the 1970s and 1980s. My grandmother’s sheets were so white they hurt my eyes; she swore by Calgon, powdered Tide, and well water. Two of those were loaded with phosphates. Tide reformulated in the 1970s and that “ancient Chinese secret” got pulled off the market in the 1980s.

      Hi Penny, no. I don’t add bleach because it can cause yellowing. I will use OxyClean White Revive or vinegar to help with whitening.

    Thank you for this video! I’m currently trying to get my husband’s shirts white for an interview and this was helpful. Do you wash them on a “whites cycle” and what spin level do you use? Thank you!

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  2 роки тому +2

      I wash the shirts on warm or cold. the white cycle might be too hot and set any stains. Most dress shirts don't need the Hot. Spin level is medium. Sorry I'm just seeing this. How did the interview go?

      Hi Cindy, no. I don't use hot on his shirts. Hot tends to set the stains and they wrinkle more. I use warm water.

      This should work on your white towels but...you don't want to put fabric softener in the rinse cycle. Go with vinegar to get rid of any residual products or odors.
